Hazbin Hotel Critical - Tumblr Posts
The incident that occurred with the hellaverse fan known to us as "Shay" is still on my mind, and while I don't wish to interact with the media anymore, I do want to say something to both sides of the hellaverse community, but especially the critical community.
Our words have the power to do the exact same thing that occurred within the shipping communities of the fandom. Please do not forget to be kind while interacting with others. Engaging with any part of the hellaverse community should be a conversation or a respectful debate at most. It should not be a WWE cage fight where you're trying to humiliate your "opponent".
Criticals can get very passionate, I would know, I still am, though I made my choice to walk away. That's not an excuse to talk down to or bully anyone. Try to give people online a little benefit of the doubt. Be patient with people you don't agree with. Don't let your personal pain, irritation, or anger speak for you. If you can't keep things respectful in that moment, walk away from the conversation.
Shay's loss was felt by every part of the fandom. Not necessarily every person within, but you all know there are a lot of people in each sect as heartbroken as you might be feeling right now. Shippers, antis, criticals, regular fans, super fans, no one wanted this.
Nothing can undo what has been done already, but we can choose kindness and patience going forward. We can do that for Shay. Thank you for taking a moment to read this, please keep yourselves safe.
Not to state the obvious but the fact that vivs fans have an unhealthy parasocial relationship with her and every member of the cast doesn’t help.
Vivziepop and her fans are delusional, believing they’re the “victims” of everyone else, completely oblivious to how awful they are. She throws tantrums on Twitter over criticism and sends her fans to harass critics of her shows, and anyone who redesigns her characters or doesn’t like her and her projects.
Vivziepop has even had ex-employees come forward about being underpaid, overworked, misgendered, and not receiving credit for their work on her shows. However, her fans continue defending her since they not only love her work but also think abusers are “one-dimensional” like the ones she writes. They believe abusers are incapable of being kind, forming relationships, and having talent; therefore, Vivziepop can't possibly be one in their eyes.
This horrible behavior is why other indie creators and fandoms don’t want to interact with Vivziepop and her fanbase because their toxic behavior isn’t worth the stress. However, they act like it's wrong for others to dislike them, believing they’re the “victims” despite harassing countless people.
Vivziepop is a terrible person who has fostered an aggressive fanbase that she supports and enables the horrible behavior of, loving how people go to extreme lengths for her and her content.
I get that heaven and hell are supposed to be just as bad as eachother but it’s such a weird choice to have the angels swear and the citizens just be like hell but with angel wings.
I feel like this show doesn’t trust it’s viwer to understand what’s going on
I’m gonna call it and say that the moral of Hazbin hotel is that what’s good and what’s bad morally is subjective.
While this is true all I can picture is a lesson that’s boiled down to “don’t call me out for being a dickhead because I have trauma and deserve to go to heaven” then in celebration there’s a sausage party style orgy between all of heaven and hell that doesn’t include Charlie and vaggie as they become the queens of hell to redeem sinners and Emily becomes god or something but she’s only going to get 2 episodes max
Maybe the first reformed sinner shouldn’t of been treated like a dumb joke and be givin no screen time or personality
This show has the absolute worse pacing ever
The 'Your playbills are delayed' letter if Mario wrote it
Someone in the animation industry just called out SpindleHorse for not being an indie studio and of course, stans start crawling out of their holes to defend their 'queen' Viv.
These are replies to the person who called SH out.
Here is another person who is sadly currently in a rough patch [probably] calling out SH. They would be calling out A24 because they have A24 in their bio, but they are following two actives SH employees who follows them back.
I mentioned this in a recent post already, but SpindleHorse is not really an indie studio anymore. They have outsourced animation to other studios, and you also cannot call your studio 'indie' if one of your shows is on a streaming service that is owned by a billion-dollar company. There is nothing indie about that, I think.
Hell, Spindlehorse is not even called an 'indie studio' on its very Wikipedia page. It is more like a private studio/company [that for some reason everything is done via Discord and does not have HR department.] The word 'indie' only shows up once.
Even if nothing else was wrong with Viv and her shows, you have to at least admit that this is pretty cucked up.
I pity the animators who have to animate more episodes of Hazbin Hotel. Vivziepop’s art style is extremely difficult to replicate, and some of her characters are overdesigned, which makes it painful to draw and animate them.
Vivziepop is also underpaying and overworking her animators, causing her to have a high turnover rate at Spindlehorse. She has already gone through 342 animators during the first season of Hazbin Hotel. Even Bento Box left before the season finale, which left A24 rushing to find more animators.
Whether or not all four seasons of Hazbin Hotel will be completed is something we’ll have to wait and see.
This is absolutely disgusting! Especially her victim blaming the kid, but with the way she writes abuse in her stories, I am sadly not too surprised, just absolutely disgusted. This whole thing is horrible. I didn't like her before, but this just makes it clear to me that Vivian is a horrible person who doesn't deserve to have two popular shows.
All of the proof that we have that Vivziepop is abusive. (So far....)
While you support this post please go ahead and support my channel to see more about Vivziepop's abusive behavior. Thanks!
1. She rushes her employees.
Season 1 was made in 2020. While Season 2 was made in 2021 while being released with MULTIPLE EPISODES only ONE year later.
That's-
INSANE!
-and im about to tell you why:
The average cartoon needs almost ONE WHOLE YEAR to produce one episode. And this is what we see in MAINSTREAM shows.
Meanwhile, Helluva Boss took only one year (and a half) to make MULTIPLE ENTIRE EPISODES that last over 20 minutes. The longest waiting time for an episode being 8 months. Not even a year, and we get multiple episodes off the drawing board.
You can even see here that it's taken only three years to make 16 episodes. When this is an indie studio, so this should have taken so much longer to make. Yet for some reason, it took only a few years for us to get full seasons. In 2021, we got over 4 episodes alone. Have you ever wondered why these episodes come out so fast while other shows take a lot longer to get new seasons? That's an easy question to ask... Spindlehorse...
Is being ABUSED.
And I have the proof to show.
2. The pay controversy.
Spindlehorse's payment has been under controversy for providing the lowest pay possible to those that work at the studio.
One piece of evidence was given by Adam himself (albeit unintentionally) by saying this:
This kind of pay is highly unstable! And before you say "But he didn't force them to be there-"
LOOK.
The employees themselves admitted that they had no choice. People had no choice and Vivienne Medrano took advantage of that for her own selfish desires. This is disgusting treatment of a studio as small as Spindlehorse. Or any studio for that matter.
Hell! chaifootsteps said once that once Zeurel released that he was paying his animators too low, he deleted one of the tweets showing the low pay and decided to do something to give his employees better wages. Meanwhile, Chimera Bunny pays even less than Viv does and just because paying your workers low is normal in the animation industry- plot twist: Doesn't make it ok!
People have suffered so much in this industry, it's why "New Deal for Animation" exists. The only reason you haven't seen many Vivziepop workers having protests and speaking out is because Vivziepop says things like this behind people's backs if they "dare" do anything she doesn't like:
So that explains as to why so many people remain as "anon" or say nothing at all because they got cold feet. Vivienne's terrible!
Especially since even her top employees have admitted to not being paid enough despite Adam's "I pay them to stay if they make us the most mon-ey!" claims from the article:
Also this:
This is how she speaks about her own employees:
"YOU DONT LIKE HOW I TREAT YOU?! FUCK OFF!"
Straight up abuse.
Also, wasn't Walt Disney known for abusing his employees?
To the point where people had an entire protest in 1914 about it?
Wow... such a healthy workplace treatment comparison. Doesn't make Vivziepop look more like a jerk.... at all! /s
3. She bullies kids/laughed at a sa victim that was sa'ed by her friends. As one kid was bullied into a panic attack (I know them personally) back in about 2020 and Viv decided to vague post about them behind their back even after they apologized.
For someone who's so focused on "forgiving despite cancel culture" she sure likes to blame and harass people for disliking even ONE thing about her show or herself. One thing- and you're harassed over making a meme about a cartoon with fictional characters (What Froot Did that set Vivziepop and Gumball off.)
Secondly, one of her friends sexually harassed a minor.
And instead of acknowledging the sa, Vivziepop wrote this:
She ended up calling it a "joke" and made fun of the victim involved.
This is outright abusive behavior that should not be tolerated.
Children don't deserve to be traumatized this way. Especially over something as simple as making memes about a cartoon (negative or not) or simply telling someone to stop fetishizing abuse.
More on this in this video made by Gummypop:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND-
That's all that I have for now!
Will likely be updating this post in the future. Goodbye!
EDIT:
More evidence of Vivziepop using abusive language and slander against her employees behind their back. Claims of them being a "stalker" (like she did to Kedi and also its clear that she told her employees to say that Kaz was a "stalker" otherwise how else would they be saying these things after she fired them.) along with using abusive language such as "CUNT!" to prefer to Kaz this way in a professional setting I cannot. 💀
More evidence of Vivziepop harassing a kid:
ANOTHER edit:
More evidence, she's burning them the HELL out!
Yet ANOTHER edit:
More evidence of Spindlehorse being abusive:
EDIT:
Even MORE evidence:
The fact that the story AND the storyboards AND the animating for season one's episodes were all done in one year is just so crazy to me like... WHAT?! Either way, this post will continue to extend the more that I find evidence. So remember to look forward to that one!
EDIT:
Sadly no, as animation abuse is so common that the police dont even see it as an issue. The last time I tried to call the police on her they needed a location. The problem? There is no location of Spindlehorse since it's a "private" studio. So because of that viv gets away with abuse despite the obvious implications of her behavior and how many people came out with allegations towards her.
The more I learn about this Raph guy, the more horrified I get. That is not okay.
When it comes to rape fantasies.
It'd be one thing if people were like-
Doing it privately, and in private forums.
But people be doing this in PUBLIC!
Which effects the REPRESENTATION of sa victims. Which is TERRIBLE.
It's why Raph 2 doing it was so goddamn bad.
It displayed rape being seen as a "positive" thing in media.
Which HURTS RAPE AND SEXUAL HARASSMENT VICTIMS.
Especially when said person sexually harassed someone irl.
It's awful, and the more we display violent porn (rape), sexual harassment, pedophillia, incest, and beastiality as "positives" in media the worse people will be treated overall.
That's the problem I was talking about.
It's why when I saw Autistic Swag saying "What Raph did was just a kink!" it made me vomit on the inside because THIS SHIT HURTS PEOPLE! Holy fuck why cant people put two and two together?!
Representing something as positive in media= people will do it MORE. It's why people did more anal sex after it was representing anal as a positive/acceptable thing to do.
So to all the proshippers reading this:
STOP FETISHIZING HORRIBLE THINGS.
AND DNI!
I am surprised Stolas isn't a part of this little group.
(derogatory) We could tell
I just watched the piolet of HH, and God damn am I disappointed. Sure, there were some things that needed to be tweaked, but overall, I forgot how good the piolet was! I was so disappointed because I really fucking wish the show was actually that good. Some of the designs needed a touch-up, not all the jokes hit, and of there is the Voodoo problem, but I could see that piolet becoming something good, something worth watching. Unfortunately, we live in the worst timeline where vivsipop was in charge and capitalism rules the world.
This is such a good idea! I would love this! Plus, it would help flesh out her character beyond just being Charlie's girlfriend since she would have conflict outside of Charlie!
Something that always bother me in the first season is after it’s revealed vaggie is a exterminator why was the rest of the hotel so chill? They are literally like oh you are a former exterminator cool
I think what would’ve been better is everyone the hotel should’ve been against vaggie like she was a part of something that could’ve killed them in the past, and not cared . Angel should’ve been defensive, even accusing her that she was using Charlie from the beginning, having a friendship with her . Or husk and pentious keeping their distance, not trusting her
This would’ve been better as vaggie Didn’t have to get Charlies trust back, but the rest, the hotel, because let’s be realistic. If you found out one of your friends was a part of something horrific it will take you a while to forgive them or not be trusting towards them.
I agree mine that plot point.
I agree. The show never puts in the work to get us to sympathize with the sinners. They are constantly shown to be horrible people who want nothing to do with redemption, and honestly, why would they? Hell is designed for them. They can indulge in all their worst habits as much as they want as long as they are strong/powerful enough. A murder can kill in hell. Why would they want to be in heaven, aside from avoiding the extermination that they have AN ENTIRE YEAR TO PREPARE FOR! I think it is dumb.
One Hell of an Unpopular Opinion #04
The reason behind the Exterminations should've stayed to prevent Sinners from overpopulating the Pride Ring and I don't like how Hazbin Hotel portrays Adam as being in the wrong for hating Sinners.
_________
The whole, "We kill Sinners for our entertainment," reasoning from Adam and Lute as well as, "I approved of the Exterminations to avoid Hell's Sinners from starting an uprising," reasoning from Sera is so stupid. Specifically, Sera's reason. Because logically approving of the Exterminations would only lead to more and more Sinners wanting to start an uprising with each passing Extermination. Adam and Lute's reasoning has to be the way it is so that the show writers can make it seem like Charlie's in the right when the show gives us reason to believe that she's actively wrong. For example, Angel Dust was born in New York City and into a Mafia family likely somewhere around the years 1912 - 1915 as he's stated to have died in his young to mid 30s in the year 1947 due to a drug overdose. Angel Dust was a mobster for most if not all of his life but he hasn't shown or stated that he feels any remorse or guilt for what he did back then. The only thing he feels guilty for is for his past self having signed that contract with Valentino which is totally valid however making a soul contract with Valentino isn't the reason why he's in Hell. Angel Dust is in Hell for being a murderer, a drug trafficker, a drug attic, a smuggler, and for likely having committed several other money related crimes. I swear, people hear or see the word Mafia and automatically think of death when the majority of their crimes are motivated by currency. Like, its still not good but its not just senseless murder either. The point is, we haven't seen anything about Angel Dust truly wanting to change. Yeah, there was that scene in episode #06 where Angel turns down Cherri's offer to do drugs but that doesn't suddenly mean he's no longer a drug attic for turning down ONE offer. Most of the Sinners we see or know of in Hell are fucking horrendous people. Alastor was and still is a serial killing cannibal because he can. Let me repeat. He WAS and STILL IS a SERIAL KILLING CANNIBAL because he CAN! There is an entire place in the Pride Ring known as the Cannibal Colony (in the show it got changed to Cannibal Town but I've been calling it Cannibal Colony for 4 years now and I do not plan on stopping), Martha's in Hell which makes sense considering she and her entire family were actual Devil worshipers, Loopty and Lipton experimented and killed the poor, and Valentino is a rapist. We still don't know enough about most of what the HH's cast did when they were alive which is why I think Sir Pentious ultimately getting into Heaven was a load of BS. We don't even know why he ended up in Hell in the first place but he tries to help his "friends" once and dies in the process and that's enough to get him redeemed???
Seriously, what did he do to deserve damnation? Also, I know Viv probably doesn't have Cain or Able as that would give Adam an understandable, even justifiable, reason for despising Sinners. His first and oldest son, Cain, is LITERALLY the FIRST SINNER. For what? For killing his younger brother, Able, by slicing his throat with a knife or sharp object in the same manner Able did when sacrificing his lambs. Although, I've also heard that Cain killed Able by bludgeoning him to death with a stone by repeatedly bashing it into Able's skull. Either way, if anyone deserves to hate Sinners the MOST then it's Adam & Eve without a doubt.
She turns everyone into a blonde twink Istg
🗝️Saint Peter Redesign🐓
Since when “Welcome to heaven” episode came out I always thought St.Peter would look like I was shocked and confused since when did St.PETER BECAME A BASIC WHITE MAN LIKE WHAT???
I was uncomfortable when he started singing I CANNOT STAND THIS TWINK THAT MOAN IN EVERY SONG LIKE WTF.
I’m not a Christain but I cannot believe Viv would make another religious figure white like why didn’t she properly read the bible and look up on the internet about Peter?!
I really don’t believe that is Saint Peter that is a different character with a different personality.
I decided to make him bible accurate to his redesign I made him look old and wise.
His voice would be Anton Chigurh from No Country from an old man
I added some fish surrounding his sunny looking halo that he used to be a fisherman in his past life.
The holes on his palm shows that he have been crucified on the cross upside down.
He’s a part rooster angel since the rooster symbolises vigilance and protection for Jesus prophecy.
The blue and yellow robes make him look accurate.
I replaced light blue to dark brown lineart to make him suitable to the warm colour of heaven.
His beard and hair mimicked the water and clouds flowing due to flying and levitation off the ground.
Vivsipop fans say that it's not weird/fetishizing, but they don't seem to be taking the opinions of actual gay men into account... strange.
The way Viv writes male gay relationships is atrocious/abusive; has any gay/pan man felt uncomfortable/troubled by her portrayal of her characters? Please share your insights.
Such a wholesome relationship ♡
angel dust: *tells husk abt his experience as a sex worker + the fact that he's being sexually abused by valentino*
husk: you're a loser babyyy‼️‼️ a loser godamn baby you're a fucked up little whiny bitch– 🫵🫵
Hell's society/government is some I have always been curious about. It's (in my opinion) one of the most inconsistent things about the hellverse or whatever it's called.
I accidentally deleted a question someone asked me because of issues with posting my response and I don't remember the user of the person, so I'll just try to summarize what they asked and then answer. I hope they still see this. (TT)
They were talking about my post regarding some of the worldbuilding issues in HH/HB, specifically this point:
And asked if I would count these things being said on the HB Subreddit as a valid explanation for prisons in hell.
They said, that to them it just seemed like something the writers didn't really think through and mentioned, that hell pretty much functions like earth atp, with the approach to punishment being more akin to a "hell on earth" situation.
This was my response:
Thanks for the question! I do think that could be an answer to prisons being in hell, but I generally don't like/count explanations that were given outside of the show, especially when it's not from an official interview or something. I feel like it was really just something they included without thinking much about it. But I'll use this opportunity to rant about something that's a bit different. Hell is just getting closer and closer to earth and I think the biggest problem is that hell as a place and what happens there is never defined really. Atleast not what living in hell means for Hellborn. For Sinners it's supposed to be a place with punishment, but the punishment is more like what you mentioned with the "hell on earth" idea. This is because there is no outside form of punishment, all the harm that Sinners experience is self-inflicted in a way. I assumed the exterminations were a form of punishment, but the show makes it clear that they aren't supposed to happen and only really do, because Adam gets off to it. Im fine with the punishment that Sinners receive, because they did something to end up in hell, but Hellborns? To them, hell is just the place they were born and they didn't to anything specific to end up there. They don't really deserve to be punished. But I would be fine with the fact that the have to endure harm/punishment down there if it was consistent in any way. First off, the sinners just live in one ring of hell, the pride ring. If Hellborns have to endure harm, because they live among sinners and there is no way to differentiate between the two that's alright, but sinner only live in one ring, why not just make a working system in every other ring? And to call hell a "place with no rules" could work, if there weren't very obviously rules to this place still. There's a system with higher-ups, there's prisons and therapy centers, there are rules to who can or can't date someone and who gets access to certain powers/items. But there is seemingly no god who makes all of these rules. Lucifer, the king of hell doesn't care and only seems to hang out in his own ring (as far as HH let's us assume), so who makes these rules and why does anyone follow them/act like they're a big deal. We have no reason to assume that the sins care about anything that presents issues in the show (except for Mammon caring about his money being stolen, but I'll get to that). Mammon only cares about his wealth and Asmodeus and Beelzebub seem like pretty chill people overall. But to get back to the point, we see Moxxie end up in prison in the greed ring after stealing a bunch of money with Chaz. It makes sense for Mammon to want to punish him, which to me, it would make more sense to just kill him. What does Mammon gain by putting him in jail for a bit and then just letting him go? The sins are unbelievably strong (atleast we can assume that, because powerscaling is practically nonexistent in HH/HB), they could kill an Imp in matter of seconds. The idea that prison is more of a punishment is only sustainable if you go at it from the perspective of someone who enjoys the suffering of others. Someone like Adam, who would go out of his way to maybe visit the prisons, or oversee punishments, just to enjoy seeing another person get abused. But who does that in the greed ring? I assumed, with how hell was characterized so far, Demons are more selfish than they are sadistic. I thought the idea was, that everyone is more focused on self-sustainability, rather than directly hurting others (atleast for the Hellborns). And yeah, Mammon abuses Fizzarolli, but it's never something he does because he directly and intentionally wants to hurt him. It's just more of a means to an end for him, something that just so happens to be a byproduct to making Fizzarolli famous. And if Mammon isn't in charge of the prisons, then who is? Other Imps? Another sin that for some reason has influence over what happens in the greed ring? The goetia? Lucifer?
And if it's not about punishment necessarily, but more about the labor they can get out of prisoners that begs the question of why Mammon would need to pay Demons anyways. You cannot tell me that the personification of Greed, who so far has only been characterized by money would pay his workers when he doesn't need to. He's a sin, who would stand up to him anyways? What about just making contracts with demons. Does Angel get money from Valentino, or Husk from Alastor? I don't think so. Or are contracts something only sinners can do, but not some immortal, eldritch beings literally born in hell. And what money even means in a technically "lawless" place is also never explained deeper. So the idea with prisons being more punishment is only really an explanation to a certain degree. I would probably still count it, if it was mentioned in the show or, if hell was generally better established as a setting, but it mostly seems like an excuse for something that wasn't that thought out. Sorry that this answer is so long, I sorta got carried away.
This is so unfortunate. It really sucks that Viv is treating her artists this way.
Throwback to when Viv was pissed that someone who worked on the pilot asked for credit for them and someone else before swiftly deleting her tweet.
