Thank You For The Question! - Tumblr Posts
The Hunger Games characters have some unique names based on many cultures we've lived in today.
What's your favourite character names from THG world? What's their names meaning?
Bonus questions :
If you're a fanfic writer writing about characters who lives in Panem, what's their name gonna be?
If you're a reader, what's a name you read in a THG fanfic that stuck with you?
Thank you, @curiousnonny
If you don't mind, then I would like to talk about the meaning of the names in another direction - the meaning of all these names in the plot.
I like the variety of names in Panem. And for the most part they all sound unusual. I want to emphasize something that seems interesting to me - the contrast of names in the districts and in the Capitol. Such a simple thing as the names of the characters already tells us a lot about the rules of this world, its contrasts and values. It becomes clear that the Capitolians, whose names refer us to prominent figures of antiquity or mythology, and people from the districts, whose names are associated with hard work or nature, they cannot share the same values. This gradation also exists between districts - for one, it is valuable to name their child Gloss, and for another, beauty and wealth is secondary compared to the lack of food, so Katniss was named after the plant - swamp potatoes.
Are your ocs just drawings/animatics so far or do you also have them written in a story format?
Right now my ocs are just drawings and animatics!
They do have a full story though and I do want to write them out into that story format one day! Maybe on AO3 or somethin, but that's if I ever figure out how to write well enough to do so LMAOO
Thank you for the question!! :Dđ
Do you have any good sites for Ancient Greek names not really associated with myths, cause I canât find any so basically all of my characters are nameless?
if I'm being 100% serious and honest, for all my ocs I google "(blank) baby names" LMAOO
After I find one that I think would fit my character, (also taking in account what names are more masculine and or feminine to fit the character) I then research the meaning to see if it fits!
I hope this helps at least a little bit đđ
How did you make those flags? Love your worldbuilding BTW!
I made them in good ol' Paint.NET! PDN has been my digital art program of choice for well over a decade now. (As a matter of fact I have it open right now, because I'm working on my star map!) It's very versatile and I'm so used to it at this point that trying to do this sort of graphic style in any other program feels weird.
Also, thank you so much!! I've been trying to post more worldbuilding stuff lately and I'm glad it's actually getting some love! :D
i need your opinion. jeff blim tinky or curt mega tinky
Oh this is such a good question!
While I do have aspects that I love about both portrayals my overall favourite is undoubtedly Jeffâs.
In Time Bastard we get to see Tinky be absolutely deranged when it comes to fucking around with Ted, and Jeff manages to protrude that sadistic energy entirely. The laugh alone solidifies that for me. Jeff has such a way with playing unhinged characters (Hidgens in Workinâ boys, Aladdin in Twisted, The father in Trail to Oregon, etc) that I donât think there is a better Starkid actor to play Tinky.
While Grace, Steph and Pete are acted as being scared in The Summoning honestly wasnât that scary? For me at least? Idk it was more silly (donât get me wrong I love The Summoning scene it just didnât have that scare factor- I mean Curts dancing around in neon yellow). And while I do like Tinky having a more silly goofy side to him I prefer the portrayal of that having a more sadistic streak, as seen in Time Bastard.
I know that in The Summoning the LIBs âhold court in your own tongue and formâ, (aka appear as teenagers) makes sense story wise and for a on stage preformance. But Iâm a big fan of horror, so even the description Tinky being a:
âA solidarity figure. It wears a baggy, furry body- suit. Itâs yellow and matted. Dirty. Stinking. Worst of all is its head. A motionless, demented goat mask. It has glassy, evil eyes, a slack jaw with big crooked teeth, a flopping wet tongueâ.
Fuck so hard to me. That shit slaps ok. Tinky being refered to a âThe thingâ, âThis creatureâ, âThe nightmare goatâ, in the Time Bastard script? Give me more of that please.
(I know that this isnât particularly pertaining to Jeffâs portrayal, more of the script writing, but they go hand in hand. The script is only as good as the actors can make it. And Jeff does that description of Tinky so much justice).
All that being said- when it comes to drawing Tinky I prefer to draw him as Curt (plus a few extra things added to put my own spin on the design) due to that being his first human form portrayal. Also because I canât draw goats.
Despite all this, I need it to be known that âoh boy! A spankoffski! Iâm going to have the whole set in my toy box!â has and will continue to rot in my brain for many more months to come.
Who was your first ever OC? What are your favourite genres/themes to write?
Ooo, two great questions!
First OC was a young man Lucas Deire. It's actually a series I'm working on, a college kid thrust into a world of time, beasts, and intrigue, all while dealing with a rather powerful and dangerously coy wolf goddess. I might post snippets of that at some point!
Ahhh, favorite genres! I love mythology, whether it be Egyptian, Greek, Norse, all the above! Also love writing within already established game worked or movie worlds. I've written in FFXIV, WoW, Zootopia, Harry Potter, and Eragon. Writing within those worlds, tying them together, it's fun to build off what is already there and add your own twist! Beyond that, theme wise I enjoy writing drama, action, and mystery!
...okay now I want to write that series again.
