No Cut Strings Chapter 7 Update #2
I'm writing and now I'm worried about being smote (smited?) by the gods so you know it's DRAMA...
I did the count and there are 42 readers... I might have bitten off more than I can chew...
I'm at 7960 words and still haven't started on reacting... but here's a slight preview:
"Percy frowns, “Like Grover said, some of those things just happened too fast. One after another. Plus… didn’t you know about Mrs. Dodds?”
Grover frowns, watching as Annabeth glares. He can feel indignation start to spike as she sneers, “What the hell? How would I know when you never even told me?”
Thoughts: Raise the Barre, Chp. 4 by @kpopfanfictrash
This should alternatively be titled PRaise the Barre.
Warning: now interrupting this holiday season with a special program - “long and lots of gushing ahead.” lol
Let me just start by thanking the lovely writer so much for making this fic, that has hit so close to home in my heart. This was my ABSOLUTE favorite chapter so far, and I just want to thank the lovely The elements of characterization, of movement, both inside and out, and finally the turning of the tides...PERFECTION.
I want to begin with the beautifully done train of thought we see in the jogging scene, that plays in so well with the tapestry of character we get in Y/N.
“but something needed to change and you weren’t going to be so pig-headed you ruined your dreams for the sake of your pride.”
I love that as physical as the dance world is, there is just as much of the emotional and the mental brought to life in RTB. The intangible world within becomes tangible in Shanna’s world of words. So rarely do I see characters’ motivations and development of thought crafted so compellingly, with such continuity and realness to it. Seeing into y/n’s head as she runs was a beautiful interlacing of the fic’s elements and plot points coming in and dancing with each other to ultimately form y/n’s decision to apologize.

In the vein of characterization, I also appreciate so much the nature of how y/n fucked up, interplaying with Jimin’s characterized work ethic. She made a mistake. She owns up to it. She’s so human it hurts with me as I read. And in tandem with the true core of Jimin’s character. Beautiful.
And omigoodness, the weigh in scene.....not just for the much-needed nod to the ragged edges of a beautiful art, but for the art of the characters within this scene itself.
“A strange wave of pity swept through you, imaging what Sabrina’s life must be like when she treated everyone the way she did.”
I so so so appreciate that y/n’s instinctual reaction was to empathize with Sabrina, that there is no instant villainization. It was at this moment I realized that I might be as in love with y/n as Jimin LOL.
Shanna has blessed these characters with a humanity and realness that leaps as a world from the screen to me.
-ˋˏ✄┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
I would like to take a brief interlude to just express and acknowledge how glorious these two lines were, just how much they resonated with me.
“It had been so long since you’d fully released, since you’d let the weight of a song drag you under and come alive again.”
“Whatever way the song made you feel was the right way to move, and even ugly motions made sense within the dance as a whole. Ugly emotions, ugly truths and ugly feelings - these were just as impactful as beautiful ones.”
It is so incredibly liberating to see the feelings I’ve had swirling nebulously in me to be expressed so freely and poignantly in words. To give the dancer-of-past in me a Name.
-ˋˏ✄┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
And finally, to finish up today’s ramble......
“It’s just.., I’ve always loved watching you dance.”
This line...a line so simple - that was it for me. Oh man did I silent scream so hard. What I love so much about the raw intentionality of dance is that it’s literal movement pure and true it’s your deeper feelings unbidden risen to the surface through movement no thoughts no mental filters just our expression from the heart. He saw her heart dancing across her skin, and he loved it and that was why that felt like such a key moment to me and that was built so so so well. The connections between inexplicably euphoric awe, heart, and dance all colliding with the slowly emerging respect and admiration of their rivalry was just !!!! ASDKFASLDF IM GONE ! !
I feel like, in observing Jimin and y/n wavering dance around each other and their history, we’ve been creep creep creeping our way up to a pinnacle, and now we’ve reached the top. I feel like we’re teetering at the edge of something marvelous and blood-rushing. That line was the tipping point.
I will say it again: beautiful beautiful moving chapter! FUCK this fic is so real, too real and I’m lost in its world. This is enemies to lovers done to an art, as an art, with layers of history interlocking with the present to build to a future that I cannot wait to see unfold.
- Fin. -
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for joining the ride. Now go read Raise The Barre, and feel the love!! I guarantee, it is infinitely more interesting than this ramble.

When you graduate from high school and enter Russet Ballet Academy, you tell yourself you’re leaving all past quarrels behind. The main problem with this though, is that your past seems determined not to leave you alone.

I’d like to turn the BRAVO et BRAVA to this fabulous chapter! The absolute emotional climax paralleled in the pas de deux followed by y/n’s crucial realization was simply gorgeous. The flow and ebb of their movements had me gasping and it was so cathartic for y/n to finally put into words the crux of her disjoint with Finn, making all the more spectacularly resonant the core of her relationship with Jimin.
I love love so much how we have seen y/n and Finn slowly grow apart while her and Jimin continuously entangle themselves into the fabric of each other’s lives. The slow build dancing with the gradual crumbling of both y/n’s relationships is truly a work of literary choreography.
I very much appreciate how y/n’s struggle to come to terms with what she knows in her head and what she feels in her heart also seems to be reflected in the nature of dance - what she feels in the rhythms and the emotion clashing with the rigidity of pure ballet technique. To see so many connections and foils scaffolded upon each other has my heart singing and also aching along with the way y/n has been torn.
Thank you for another amazing chapter Shanna!

What a marvelous finale to a beautifully-done series, and thank you so much Shanna for the intent behind the art, and the art of the emotion that you have so wonderfully delivered throughout this series. I am so so so happy for a number of reasons, but largely Sabrina and Jimin (+ a shoutout to the most amazing Noelle). This chapter ended with three loaded, packed, and stacked confrontations with three of arguably the most important clashing agents in y/n’s life, and I could think of no better way for y/n to reach her resolution with each of them.
Finn. First off I would like to say that I’m so proud of y/n for finding the strength to finally end her chapter with Finn. It is uglily beautiful to see the ways in which Finn twists our beloved y/n - into someone who will see red. Into someone who loses her mind and certitude. I’m proud of y/n for the acceptance and self-awareness in which she acknowledges the ways that she has also hurt Finn. To watch them float away, pulling at each other’s frayed edges as if caught in a Chinese finger trap, was a striking portrait into the many dimensions of relationships. Finn is a piece of y/n’s past, and it was hauntingly tragic yet euphoric when they let each other go. The complexities of the heart are no mystery when seen through the fabulous writings of RTB.
Sabrina. Y/n’s present, with which she shares a shadow. I’m so glad y/n came to realize how Sabrina was her foil, and that they were able to grow in a way together and come to terms with all the ways in which they are at odds. To see all of Sabrina’s puzzle pieces fall into place, and the truth of her parallels to y/n, was remarkable.
Jimin. The last piece of the trio. He is the larger puzzle with which fits y/n’s future. The precise moment when y/n tears up because of Jimin’s unwavering care, of not wanting to see her sad, got me just as much. As complicated as they became, I truly felt that we as readers never lost sight of the thread that connects these two by the hearts. I enjoyed so much that y/n was able to reclaim pieces of herself in choosing to love Jimin, to love dance. The absolute rawness of their love, sanded out from years of competition and butting heads, is incredible in its own right, and when placed in tandem with the layers of the full story, it all truly culminates to pierce straight to my heart.
The perfect trifecta for a beautiful finale. I’m not sure if this past, present, future is how it was meant to be written/read, but in any case, the way this shines through for me. Every single connection y/n has in the trifecta has been a portrait of realness, and it is simply amazing the verity of life captured in your writing.
This chapter wrenched my heart with y/n’s poignant humanity. She sits so real in my heart and I can’t help but be swept along with the crashing waves of her relationships. Just as dance flows from y’n and Jimin’s hearts, this glorious world of Russet Academy has flown like art into my own world, and it is one I will never forget. Thank you again dear artist-writer for building this story, this world, for us to all enjoy. I can’t wait to read the epilogue that will surely shatter my heart tomorrow.

THANK YOU SHANNA FOR THIS SERIES THAT ABSOLUTELY SAVED MY 2020 I COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR ANYTHING MORE 💜
RTB has been the best kind of emotional roller coaster, and this chapter I’m so happy that our mains got the happiness and love they deserve 🥺
I really went from
To straight up
The pacing and progression, from a slowly burning ember to the beautifully fiery flame of their love was so beautiful to see this epilogue. Tension TENSION tension was so well built, and had my toes curling. I love to see their past together come full circle and for them to have untangled that first knot of their’s. The way they don’t need fancy plans or much, just each other, to find their moments of happiness—I’m bursting.
I enjoyed this unfurling of their relationship from start to finish, and this is truly a prime example of knowing the destination but simply enjoying it all the more for the lovely journey that we readers went on with our two lovebirds. I’m so grateful to have found such incredible writers like you who have consciously and artfully laid in place each brick that went into this fic’s path. To see y/n’s evolution of mindset and coming to terms with a slipping past, to see Jimin grapple with the tensions and incertitudes of an evolving relationship, along with such a lively cast and academy, has truly been the brightest joy.
To a new year and new beginnings! What a beautiful, fabulous, glorious, amazing journey this has been. Thank you again for breathing life into RTB — this has been one for the books.

Tension!!!! Through!!!! The !!! Roof!!! 🥵🥵🥵 Pining, emotional turmoil, and more pining shine through so well - I really felt it coursing through my veins. I don’t quite know how to explain it but amidst the sea of Jimin’s train of thought those brief vivid flashes of sensual detail - blue lace, brushing knees, lingering perfume- those scattered descriptive pops amidst Jimin’s inner world really made this such a visceral experience for me. Those particular imageries just flashing in my mind. WRITING PERFECTION 🥰 Istg lace, knees, and perfume will be in my dreams tonight LOL
To see the perfect other half of RTB’s original chapter is such a lovely way to uplift the :,) that is 2021 so far. It felt like watching these two stars hurtle toward each other, at very different rates, and I love that we got Jimin’s full blown crushdom to comlement y/n’s uncertainty. Thank you for this lovely addition to the rich world of RTB 💜💖

Jimin and Y/N, what's one thing each you can't/couldn't stand in other people but somehow still find endearing in each other? 🥺
Jimin bursts into laughter, even as you shoot him a look. “I’m sorry,” he grins, leaning an elbow to the table. “This is funny. Hm... I used to find it super annoying when my ex left her things at my place.”
“Hey!” you blurt out.
Jimin smiles. “I don’t hate it when Y/N leaves her stuff here, though. Nohing makes me happier than finding her cleanser in my drawer, or something. Also,” he adds, a bit thoughtful. “It gives me an excuse to visit later that night.”
“You’re ridiculous,” you huff, but you smile. “I used to hate people who hummed while they worked. It was really annoying, but... Jimin has such a nice voice,” you say quietly.
Jimin’s gaze softens as he finds yours.
