June of Doom Day 5: Disfiguration
Fandom: Percy Jackson
Summary: Grover helps a half blood get into camp. However, now he must escape the monster chasing that had been chasing her.
Warnings: End of the Sea of Monsters spoilers (brief mention) and violence.
Talking walks was one of Grover's favorite past times. Often he would end up down by Talia's pine tree. Even if she wasn't in it, the tree was still comforting.
It was getting close to curfew. Percy had had a long day and wanted to head in for the night. Annabeth was reading. A walk seemed like a good way to relax before bed. Grover hadn't meant to end up at the pine tree; maybe it was the will of the Gods.
The Satyr laid his back against the tree and just as he settled down he heard a panicked voice,"Help me!" The child yelled. Behind them was a hell hound running full speed to try and catch them.
A half blood had found their way to camp on their own. Now they needed help. "Hold on!" Grover yelled. He ran out to them, grabbing them. "We have to get past that tree! Then we will be in camp's border!"
"Okay!" The girl was maybe 15. She had long brown hair and tan skin. Her eyes were hard to see in the mostly dark environment. The girl was slightly shorter then Grover and had darker colored clothing on. Grover could see multiple scratches on her arms and could see where the hell hound had torn her legs up as well.
As the two ran, the moster grabbed Grover by his shoulder. He screamed out in pain as the hound tossed him to the ground. The girl stopped to try and help him, but as the moster grew closer to her, Grover yelled for her to go. "I'll distract it!" He said. "Go!"
The girl ran towards the tree. She stumbled but remained on her feet.
"Hey!" Grover called to the monster. Looking around, he ran to grab a stick that wasn't to far from him. Throwing it, the stick hit the dog and it turned around. "Come get me!"
The hell hound sprinted towards him. Grabbing another stick, Grover held it as he ran away from the monster. As the dog ran past him, he begradually threw it into the hounds eye. The creature howled as it turned to face the man.
As the girl crossed into the barrier of Camp Half-Blood, the hell hound snarled. It barked as it ran, trying to grabbed Grover. As the animal grew closer, he jumped out of its way and started to run towards camp.
The sun had set now. The horn had sounded to signal the end of the day and curfew. The wind blew gently. The weather felt so familiar, like a night seven years ago.
Grover tripped; his hoof had hit a rock. The hell hound loomed over him. It put its jaws around him, threatening to close around his ribs. Kicking the monster, the Satyr got free. As he started to run to where the half blood stood behind the border, the dog rammed into him, laying him flat on his back. Now under the hell hound, Grover yelled out to the new camper, "get help!"
"Okay!" The child ran towards camp.
Still under the hell hound, Grover tried to set himself free. During the struggle the hell hound's back leg landed on his own left leg. As the hound stepped down, Grover screamed. He heard his leg brake.
Percy was just trying to go to bed. Laying on his bed, he finally realized the pain he had been experiencing wasn't just his body being sore from the day; it was his empathy link with Grover. His best friend was in trouble. Standing, he shoved his shoes on.
Tears fell down Grover's face. The pain in his leg was severe. Trying to fight the monster off, he pulled the rock that had tripped him out of the ground. Slamming it into the hound's teeth. It wined and backed up.
Percy flew over the hill with the new camper. He pulled his sword and ran right past the pine tree. "Grover!"
"Percy!" Grover screamed, his voice breaking.
"Hold on!" Percy could tell he didn't have much time. He watched as Grover tried to stand. Immediately the Satyr was in pain. Trying to put pressure on his left leg was useless. The bones had been straightned. At least the Apollo cabin should be able to fix it. Grover fell right back to the ground. His scream sent fear into Percy.
Pulling his body away from the hell hound; that was now over being attacked by a rock, Grover looked between his best friend and the mister trying to end his life. As the dog closed in, Percy reached Grover. He sliced Riptide, his sword, though the hound. It disappeared into nothing.
Sobbing, Grover tried to stand. "No no no, you stay there. I'll carry you back." Gently, Percy picked up his best friend. Every time he placed some pressure on the leg, Grover would wince. As bad as Percy felt, he knew it was a necessity evil.
Reaching the border, Grover asked how the girl was. "She's okay." Percy answered. "Shaken up pretty good but okay."
Grover seemed to settle down a little knowing she was okay.
Inside camp, Percy took Grover to the infirmary and then went to wake up an Apollo kid.
Lee Fletcher, head of the Apollo cabin, walked into the infirmary with Percy. "Dear Gods." He whispered. His face looked grim as he walked over to the bed. Then he assed Grover's injuries and treated what he could.
After assessing his injuries, Lee explained what had happened. "Let's ease into this. You have a few scratches and some puncture wounds from where the hound tried to bite you. I can stitch those up and get them healed pretty quickly."
Walking away from a moment, Lee grabbed a diagram of satyr anatomy and continued to explain Grover's injuries.
"When the hell hound stepped on you, it shattered your Patella, or you knee." He pointed it out on the diagram. "The bottom of your Femur and the top of your Tibula also broke. You're Femur is broken in a few places, which is one of the reasons your leg is laying flat. Your Calcanerl Tuber is also broken as well as a few other bones in your body."
Still looking at the diagram, Lee sighed. "I don't know how you stayed awake. Pain like that tends to knock people out. Braking your Femur is one of the worst bones, to break."
"So, what now?" Percy asked.
"Will I be able to walk again? I need to be able to walk again."
"With your injuries, seeing as your leg will need to be reconstructed; a surgery no one here knows how to perform, I can't say for sure. You'll need extensive physical therapy even after the surgery. Unfortunately, it's unlikely you'll walk for a very long time. All of this is assuming the surgery would be able to fix your leg. I'm really sorry Grover."
"I need to walk." Grover cried. "How could I be a searcher if I can't walk? How can I find Pan? How can I protect my friends? Everything I do-" he broke out into sobs. Percy sat to the right of him and grabbed him into a hug.
"I'm sorry."
June of Doom Day 7: "What Happened?"
Fandom: Percy Jackson
Summary: What if the golden fleece hadn't been delivered at camp in time? What if they had been too late to save their friends?
The Party Ponies had been riding for a while now. Percy wished he could sleep or maybe relax some. Hopefully Clarisse had made it to Camp Half-blood and gotten the golden fleece to Thalia's pine tree. Camps magical border kept the campers alive.
It was starting to get late. The sky was becoming beautiful reds and oranges. Fluffy clouds complimented the colors and the weather was surprising nice. Yet it felt too beautiful.
When they arrived, Clarisse sat at the edge of camp. She was on her knees, the golden fleece laying on a down pine tree. There was a strong sent of smoke and a faint glow going from the treeline. The world was quiet except for her soft crying.
"What happened?" Annabeth asked Clarisse as she got off of one of the party ponies.
"What happened?" Clarisse stood. "What happened?! We were too late, that's what happened! Camp is gone!"
Getting off of Chiron's back, with his help, Percy walked over to them. Grover joined him. "What do you mean 'camp is gone?'"
"There's bodies everywhere. The monsters got here first." The girl walked over to the pine tree.
Tyson found his footing and got off of his Party Pony. He joined everyone else. Looking at everyone, the cyclops had a puzzled look on his face. "What's wrong?"
"Thalia failed to protect us." Shifting her weight from one leg to the other, Clarisse looked around. Her eyes landed back on the pine tree on the ground.
That's when they realized it was Thalia's tree the fleece rested on. Annabeth had tears in her stormy eyes. Grover grabbed her and hugged her, crying. It was just them now. There was no tree to go to and there was no older brother to talk to. Luke had caused all of this.
"We have to do something. There might be some campers still alive." Percy spoke. "We have to try!" He started to walk towards camp.
Chiron stopped him. "I will investigate."
"I already tried." With the little light it was hard to see the blood on Clarisse already dark clothes. "There are still monsters in camp. I can tell there are some campers alive, but we can't get to them; not without help anyway. I couldn't find any cabin leaders." She sat back down on the tree. If Clarisse was thinking about battle safely, it was bad.
"So what I'm hearing is we have to help them! No one else can. The Party Ponies can help, right? Come on guys!" Percy walked towards the Centaurs.
Chiron walked over to Annabeth to console her. Camp had been her home for so long. Grover kept her in a tight hug. While Percy walked over to the Party Ponies, Clarisse stood once more. She looked towards camp. "If you haven't noticed, the arts and craft cabin is on fire."
While continuing to walk, Percy spoke. "I was gonna ask at some point which cabin it was."
As Percy talked to the Centaurs, Clarisse picked up her sword. Annabeth tried to stop crying. The girl knew that she needed to help her family, everything else could come later.
"It's okay Grover." Annabeth tried to reassure her friend. "Or at least it will be."
"The Party Ponies say they'll help, we just have to throw them a party later." Percy kind of laughed.
"What kind of party?" Tyson had an innocent look on his face. He may be a big guy, he was still young.
"One we can't attend buddy." Percy informed his brother.
"Why not?"
"It's an adult kind of party."
"Okay." Tyson seemed satisfied with that answer.
"Clarisse, did you see Mr. D anywhere?" Walking to the border, Annabeth grabbed her dagger.
"Nope."
"Unfortunately, Dionysus is not prohibited to help the campers with a monster attack such as this one. It's classified as 'mortal affairs'. He would not even be allowed to help Caster and Pollux. In this case, it may have been best for him to leave the premises so as to not attract any more monsters." Chiron looked saddened as he spoke.
"Oh. That's sad." Tyson grabbed Percy and kept him close.
"We are Camp Half-Blood's last hope." Clarisse had a way of starting to talk like a military sergeant in movies when she was about to talk about battle. "We'll have to stay in groups of at least two. Watch for injured campers and if you find one, try to keep them alive. We should try to find Apollo kids, we'll need them."
Drying his tears, Grover spoke up. "Do you think anyone is alive?"
"We must have hope." Chiron walked over to his cousins and talked to them about the risk of engaging in the battle in camp. They all seemed to understand perfectly. The half-bloods assumed it was the fight to save children's lives that made them be so quick to join; that or the promise of a party thrown by Dionysus.
The half-bloods gathered closer to the border and talked. "Where did you pick them up." Clarisse asked, nodding her head in the direction of the Party Ponies.
"We did not pick them up." Tyson said.
"They picked us up. They rescued us from Luke. It was kind of impressive." Slightly smiling, Percy told her about what had happened on the Princess Andromeda.
"Luke got taken out by a carton move, twice." Grover laughed. "If it hadn't been life or death, it could have been funny."
"It sounds like it."
Tyson chucked as of thinking of the memory almost fondly.
"We are ready." Chiron walked over to his campers.
"Alright, let's do this." Percy drew Riptide as they crossed into Camp Half-Blood.
Augusnippets Day 12: Lost
Fandom: Percy Jackson
Warning: Major character death
Summary: After being sent on a quest, Annabeth, Percy, and Grover find themselves lost somewhere in New Jersey. There they find the mystery monster they were sent to slay.
Looking for Pan was a Satyr's greatest honor. It was also Grover's second greatest honor; his greatest honor was being Percy Jackson's best friend. So when Percy told him to join him on a quest to uncover some mystery monsters, he ran to his side. After all, what are best friends for?
They left with Annabeth shortly after Grover made his way back to camp. Now they were in nowhere New Jersey trying to figure out where to go next.
"This feels familiar." Percy joked.
"Yeah." Annabeth smiled.
"There's no threat of war this time!" Grover exclaimed.
"Nope, just some mystery monster that we have to find and kill. Easy enough."
"We've been though worse." Annabeth responded to Percy. It was true, they had been though worse. From preventing a war at the age of twelve to holding up the sky, they faced every problem together.
The woods whisperered with mystery. There was a monster waiting for the teens and they knew it was close. As they grew closer to the monsters lair, Grover knew what it was. "It's a cyclops." He informed his friends.
Annabeth looked a little nervous but she was mostly used to being around them again because of Tyson. "Alright."
"We'll be okay." Grover insured her. They were a little less lost now at least.
Then the monster surprised them. It came out from behind a white oak tree and attacked them with a club. "Why is it always a club?!" Percy yelled.
With no other choice, the group split up. Grover took off further into the woods. He felt like if he looked back, something would get him. Slowing down, the satyr stopped figure out where he was.
As he wandered around, Grover tied to find his friends. "Percy! Annabeth! Where are you?!" The stench of the cyclops hadn't left his nose yet. They were loud creatures. Grover knew it was near him. He could swear he heard Percy yell for him.
The cyclops swung a hand down, slamming Grover into some nearby rocks. He heard his bones brake on impact. Still he tried to stand. The satyr was able to pull himself to his feet and take a few steps forwards before collapsing. He tried to call out, but found it almost impossible to breath, let alone speak. It felt like his body was shutting down.
Blood surrounded his body. Grover knew somewhere Percy would be frantically searching for him. The teen wasn't sure how much time had passed. He could hear Percy talking to him in his head. "Don't give up! Hold hold!" But as the sky was starting to fade from view, Grover knew he wouldn't make it.
Percy collapsed to the ground when Grover died. His breathing was off. Annabeth grabbed him and pulled him away from the cyclops that had since found them. "What?" She asked, nervously.
Shaking, Percy tried to stand back up. "He's gone." Tears ran down his face.
After getting Percy to safety, Annabeth took on the cyclops alone. Eventually she was able to slay it.
"We should bring his body back to camp" Percy started. "We can at least do that right?"
Resting a hand on Percy's shoulder, Annabeth reminded him that when satyrs die, they are reborn as plants. There was no body to be found. Now Grover would remain in the woods, forever lost.
Friendly reminder that Grover and Percy’s empathy link was still there in Tartarus.
