Interest Check: Steddyhands Challenge
I was wondering if there would be any OFMD fandom interest in doing a prompt challenge specifically for Steddyhands? It would be like a fanweek, but maybe a little shorter, like 3-4 days worth of prompts, and it could be called something like the "Steddyhands Long Weekend". Anyways, I got this idea and I was thinking of setting it up, but I want to know if there is enough steddyhands fans who would be interested in participating. If this is of interest to you please like and reblog this so I can get an idea of numbers. Also, if you have ideas for dates or prompts please comment.
I have a co-worker who on slack was telling us that ep8 was Stede's dream/gravy basket after he got hit on the head with the wood plank. God, I wish that was true, it would be so much better than canon

I keep thinking back to s1e5 of ofmd. Mainly because of what happens between/with stede and ed during this episode.
Like, imagine you're going to be hanging around a crowd that you have been used to from birth. They aren't a very nice crowd but you've learned nifty tricks and stuff throughout your time living with them. You've learned the way of these people, how to live with them.
But as you're going to be hanging around this crowd, you also have this friend. This friend that you know doesn't have the same exact experience you do around this specific crowd. So you want to show this guy the ropes, help them along. You get to be the cool guide today where this person had been the cool guide for you to other things you were less experienced in.
And as you're hanging around this crowd, you get kinda pushed and shoved around. See, you never got along well with these people.
But then your friend, remind you who doesn't have the same exact experiences you do and doesn't fully know their way around like you just- hits it off with these people. They hit it off with the people it took you YEARS to learn to fit in with/maneuver around. These people who repeatedly, over the yeard, have kicked you off any tiny podium made of the small amount of pride you had in yourself for wven trying to learn how to *survive* in this crowd.
You learn your friend doesn't need much help in this.
So, pretty hurt by this, you back up and let this guy do his thing.
You want to be angry at this friend, because how could they. How could they get along so easy with these people you worked your ass off to get along with. How could it come so easy for them when for you it took years and honestly you only did it to stay alive and make it around the world. How could it be like this.
But you also want to be proud. You want to be proud of your friend because they're managing so well, even without your guidance now, and - despite all odds considering different experiences - seem to be getting along just fine.
BUT later your friend stumbles up to you. They've wound up beaten and broken down by this crowd who, time and time again, never failed to disappoint in getting the job done - the job of putting down those who work so fucking hard just to get by.
What do you do? Do you get pissy at this person. Do you just avoid speaking to them? What do you do?
Despite all odds, despite how angry Stede could've reacted, Stede doesn't go off on him, doesn't treat him with even slight anger.
He just- helps him get through this. By using one of his little tricks he's learned along the way.
And, of course, the way his friend is so baffled and amazed is totally worth it. He probably couldn't help but feel prideful- not even just because his friend is amazed but because this crowd - who continused to just treat people like shit and put them down more than they already had been - has experienced the karma they deserve.
Stede could've been angry. Against all emotions and reasoning for them, he wasn't. He was kind and tried to help his friend get by through using one of his nifty tricks. Instead he said, "oh it's my time to shine" rather than being "oh you want my help? no way."
Whether this was simply because he cares abt his friend and he was just kinda like "fuck this isn't fair" or rather because he could empathize with this lost fellow who didn't quite know what to do and how to handle this crowd- we wont ever truly know the complete, honest and exact reasoning behind it, but I just think this was a nifty little moment. Rather than reacting, Stede resorted to sorting it all out.
I just think- yk this is a cool little thing idk idk :)
Best fic i've read in a while, i swear. Every scene, every line of dialogue, every moment of tenderness lit my heart up.

this fic is all about ed surprising stede with something that takes on a mind of its own. i don't want to spoil the surprise, but if you read the tags, you'll know what sweetness is coming for you!!
but i can tell you this features dressing nicely together, and dancing, and tenderness, and i'm obsessed with them!

also just the change in humor, looking at older posts from 2012-2014 all you had to do was tell a funny (and probably fake) story from your life (usually involving fandom of some sort) and tumblr would eat it up. it’s how we got iconic posts like the down with cis bus
gotta love how in 2012 Tumblr, all the replies on even slightly weirdly worded posts and replies were like "oh mY GOD what did I just read" and "THIS ENTIRE WEBSITE IS ON DRUGS" and a long series of Superwholock gifs of people flailing and laying face down on the ground and generally overreacting
and in 2022 someone can just calmly post shit like "off I fuck on my weekly journey into the deep murky woods to snort a line of ants off the Woodland Ghoul's dick" and nobody even comments, they'll just quietly nod like yeah mood and reblog that shit.
Maybe a faint little "yeah that's valid" hiddne quietly in the notes.
