don’t get on my ass but does anyone else think season two of ofmd was a little disappointing. the pacing is weird and the it feels a lot cartooner then before in a bad way. everything just feels so unnatural and and unreal, because season one felt like real people falling in love but this season it feels so forced.

Been slowly chipping away at this. I'm still not over all of them. Soundtrack makes me emotional. I stepped into an Avalanche. ♪ --- This is very self indulgent: I like the idea of Stede being socialized "feminine" - of course he already has these flowery, soft notes to his character, but I really like to think about the implications of a soft person discovering and wanting to live their "masculine" side and finding friends who adore them as a whole without fitting either stereotype.

Saw The Kiss and immediately knew I had to paint this (don't question how I did this so quickly I have no idea) so I could ignore the finale. Which never happened. Right?
This show made me more gay. Somehow.

Edit: It was pointed out by a friend that the red and blue contrast lines on Stede and Ed make purple,,,,,,,,the color of queerness in the show,,,,,
No but I actually think the whole “Stede goes back to his family” thing had to happen. He needed that closure and he needed Mary to forgive him. Now, when he finds his way back to Ed, he can be with him completely.

listen, I want the bit of red silk to come back too.
but I honestly want there to be a new red cloth to signify the unity of their hearts. doesn't even have to be red. just something that will be significant like the red silk.
Maybe the red cloth from the heart in the flag. It was torn out and stabbed and put on display for everyone to see, but they'll take it down once it's repaired. Something for Stede and Ed to know about and enjoy. Just for them, but known by others. No hiding it.
okay, thinking about this some more. Hear me out. Mary sends them either matching clothing items (robes or something) or a bolt of blue silk as a sort of way of saying "hey I know you gave up this whole life but I also know it's the only thing you've known. it's your past and it's important and it's good to share it with your partners" for Stede and Ed.
the blue goes along with colour meanings. Red meaning passion, anger, and love and blue meaning sadness, calm, and peace. A major change in the story and goes along with it.
At the start, Ed is full of passion for being a pirate, anger at life, and the love between him and Stede blossoms.
Then, it turns sad. He's full of anguish and longing for his love, and he will hopefully be reunited and get the calm and peace that comes with it.
The same material goes with that connection between the two of them, same as the og red of Stede having the life that Ed use to wish for and Stede sharing that with him. and im hoping it turns into some sort of clothing item or accessory so they can wear it any time they wish as a very obvious "heart on your sleeve"
or, instead of Mary being involved (though I do hope she gets at least some more screen time), Ed was burning a bunch of Stede's clothes but realized exactly what he was doing as a blue silk item was being burned. He doused the fire but didn't save the full garment, only being able to save some scraps. And he held onto that until Stede returned. hoping he would.
And the finally idea is that Stede is the new red silk. He is Ed's heart. There plainly for everyone to see and see the love Ed holds for him.

“you wear fine things well” — brilliant, excellent, amazing, makes it clear to an experienced pirate that you want to be his husband and adopt a bunch of queer pirates with him, bc found family is the best thing that can happen

the thought of the moment is stede cleaning/bandaging up a wound on ed’s back while ed sits slumped over and tries not to let on that he’s got tears and snot pouring all down his face (feels safer than he ever has before being touched by somebody outside his line of sight) (still does not fully believe he deserves to experience anything this good) (stede is being very gentle and not even tugging at it or anything)
