I'd like to add a slightly different take on this, along with some nuance from the movie(s).

The boy/men (with the tendencies) seem unable to grasp: along with nerdish likes & hobbies, Peter is genuinely kind at heart. He has courage. *Courage is being brave enough to do the right thing even when afraid. Gwen said to Peter, "I love that you're Spider-man, but I love Peter Parker more" and it's true--she was attracted to him before he ever got bitten by the radioactive spider at Oscorp, because she witnessed his kindness to others and that, in itself, can certainly accentuate innate attractiveness. It takes courage to be kind in a world full of hate.

Hollywood likes to emphasize the myth that the nerd must become strong in order to conquer his/her foes and win love, but the disconnect comes when the male viewer fails to see that it was the kindness that created the initial spark. Sometimes that spark leads to friendship and beyond. Not just in the movies. Perhaps they should go out and with real sincerity try it.

*IMO, fear is an important element of courage. Consider the words of Mark Twain:

"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear—not absence of fear. Except a creature be part coward it is not a compliment to say it is brave; it is merely a loose misapplication of the word. Consider the flea!—incomparably the bravest of all the creatures of God, if ignorance of fear were courage. Whether you are asleep or awake he will attack you, caring nothing for the fact that in bulk and strength you are to him as are the massed armies of the earth to a sucking child; he lives both day and night and all days and nights in the very lap of peril and the immediate presence of death, and yet is no more afraid than is the man who walks the streets of a city that was threatened by an earthquake ten centuries before." --Pudd'nhead Wilson's Calendar

I think the whole "Peter Parker is ugly" is their self-projection, because they can't comprehend the fact that Peter gets more cooch in one day than they did in their entire miserable lives, because they can't interact with women.

Yes, it may be an unpopular opinion what I will say next, but I always thought that Peter’s version of Sam Raimi created a certain identification among boys/ men with incel tendencys.

When insults had class

These glorious insults are from an era before the English language got boiled down to 4-letter words. A member of Parliament to Disraeli: “Sir, you will either die on the gallows or of some unspeakable disease”. “That depends, Sir,“ said Disraeli, “whether I embrace your policies or your mistress.” “He had delusions of adequacy.” - Walter Kerr “He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.”- Winston Churchill “I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure.” -Clarence Darrow “He has never been known to use a word that might send a reader to the dictionary.” - William Faulkner (about Ernest Hemingway). “Thank you for sending me a copy of your book; I’ll waste no time reading it.” - Moses Hadas “I didn’t attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.” - Mark Twain “He has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by his friends..” - Oscar Wilde “I am enclosing two tickets to the first night of my new play; bring a friend…. if you have one.” (George Bernard Shaw to Winston Churchill) “Cannot possibly attend first night, will attend second  …. if there is one.“  (Winston Churchill, in response.) “I feel so miserable without you; it’s almost like having you here.” - Stephen Bishop “He is a self-made man and worships his creator.” - John Bright “I’ve just learned about his illness. Let’s hope it’s nothing trivial.” - Irvin S. Cobb “He is not only dull himself; he is the cause of dullness in others.” - Samuel Johnson “He is simply a shiver looking for a spine to run up.” - Paul Keating “In order to avoid being called a flirt, she always yielded easily.” - Charles, Count Talleyrand “He loves nature in spite of what it did to him.” - Forrest Tucker “Why do you sit there looking like an envelope without any address on it?” -Mark Twain “His mother should have thrown him away and kept the stork.” - Mae West “Some cause happiness wherever they go; others, whenever they go.” - Oscar Wilde “He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lamp-posts… for support rather than illumination.” Andrew Lang (1844-1912) “He has Van Gogh’s ear for music.” - Billy Wilder “I’ve had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn’t it.” Groucho Marx

SANTA AND THE ICE CREAM BUNNY (Dir: R Winer & B Mahon, 1972).

SANTA AND THE ICE CREAM BUNNY (Dir: R Winer & B Mahon, 1972).

If you are looking for alternative Christmas viewing it doesn’t get much more alternative than this, frankly weird, no-budget effort from indie production company R & S Films, Inc.

Santa (Jay Clark) touches down in sunny Florida and gets his sleigh stuck in the sand. Using his powers of telepathy(!), Ol’ Saint Nick summons the help of some local kids including, for reasons unexplained, Mark Twain’s literary Tom and Huck. The kids employe an assortment of animals, gorilla included, to shift the sleigh to no avail, until the appearance of the titular rabbit who, despite co-star billing, doesn’t appear until the final moments of the movie. When he does finally make an entrance he is inexplicably driving a fire truck, not an ice cream van as you might expect.

While Many May Not Totally Believe Or Embrace All Parts Of The Bible, There Are Many Points On Which

While many may not totally believe or embrace all parts of the Bible, there are many points on which many will agree. For example murder certainly is not good and neither is stealing, lying, and generally not following “ The Golden Rule.” All these are clear to grasp and easy to understand, but as Mark Twain infamously said, it is parts like today’s Bible verse that are a real stumbling block for a lot of people.

Here’s the thing about “God’s Word”...it is NOT an easy path through life, but a Difficult One. To follow what God says requires discipline, dedication, and determination to look past the temptations and distractions of this world and aim for the high goal of your calling to live a peaceable, productive, and prudent life.

As Twain points out, some of these injunctions to living — while straightforward to read and comprehend — are seemingly impossible to follow. For example in today’s verse on forgiveness, this is unbearable for many people due to their hurt, anger, or the injustice they received from someone, but here is how this is possible and what Twain did not understand.

As long as you try do this in your human strength it will always be either extremely difficult or nearly impossible, but once you receive the Holy Spirit of God in your life and totally yield to His direction, the Bible promises us that “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

Are you struggling with unforgiveness? As today’s scripture says, if you do not forgive you will not be forgiven. That is easy to understand but impossible to follow unless you let go of your pride, yield to the Holy Spirit and start simply by making a conscious, mental decision to forgive. (Don’t worry about emotionally “feeling” forgiving..that will come in time...)

Friend, if you 'GO WITH GOD', All Things then Are Indeed POSSIBLE. Unlike Twain’s dilemma, it is not a matter of understanding, but of faith, trust and obedience to the one that literally wrote the book. Then and only then will it be possible to have victory over all the difficult parts that you DO UNDERSTAND.

René Descartes once made the profound statement "cogito ergo sum" which is latin for "I think therefore I am." I suppose he must have been having some type of existential crisis to have come up with that but it is still a favorite quote of mine.

When I first designed the aesthetic for the word "exist" I did it as a gag and included the words of René Descartes. Given that I made the original at a 16:9 ratio I had to change a few things and get it to 1:1 for Instagram (where I originally posted the aesthetic).

Ren Descartes Once Made The Profound Statement "cogito Ergo Sum" Which Is Latin For "I Think Therefore

(original aesthetic pictured above)

I think the new quote is much more profound and gives the word a deeper meaning but the background image and knocked out text remain the same and offer a visual that is sometimes difficult to convey with words alone.

What does it mean to exist? Like, comment, reblog, or any combination of the three if you're now having an existential crisis like Mr. Descartes.

With love, Nova

There are some things that can beat smartness and foresight? Awkwardness and stupidity can. The best swordsman in the world doesn't need to fear the second best swordsman in the world; no, the person for him to be afraid of is some ignorant antagonist who has never had a sword in his hand before; he doesn't do the thing he ought to do, and so the expert isn't prepared for him; he does the thing he ought not to do; and often it catches the expert out and ends him on the spot.

Travel Is Fatal To Prejudice, Bigotry, And Narrow-mindedness, And Many Of Our People Need It Sorely On

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.
