wuxia, xianxia, and cultivation differences meta
translations: wuxia 武俠, xianxia 仙俠, and cultivation 修真/修仙 (xīuzhēn/xīuxiān)
think i've seen posts on this eons ago, and i'm pretty sure there are tons of these online, but since this has been written up already let's just have another one.
wuxia 武俠
wuxia and xianxia sound similar, but basically for wuxia it is about the pugilistic world (江湖 jiānghú). It is relatively more down-to-earth, and people practice martial arts ("kungfu") in their current life -- they do not do it to become xians (仙) and gods (神) however.
Like Thousand Autumns and Faraway Wanderers/Word of Honor, it has more historical background and ties to the current court and kingdoms, because people are living in the moment and concern themselves with worldly issues.
Martial arts may seem unrealistic, but in view of chinese fantasy it would be considered "real". It consists of fighting moves and internal energy, which they call qi or nèigōng (內功), and at times you see people flying around, climbing hills and jumping across rooftops which is qīnggōng (輕功).
xianxia 仙俠
A level up would be xianxia, where characters in the story cultivate to become xians (and gods, like in the heaven official's blessing). They don't really care about earthly issues here now, because their ambitions lie beyond the current world, and cultivation, getting stronger, and an immortal life are majorly all their goals.
You may not always see them working towards that purpose, such as in mdzs they are considered a lower-xianxia society (低魔), meaning people don't go through all the steps of cultivation and only stay at the stage before the "golden core" stage.
In xianxia, characters still learn basic fighting moves aka. martial arts, but to direct the internal energy they use línglì (灵力), zhēnqì (真气), and fǎlì (法力), all xianxia terms you commonly see. "neigong" is practically nonexistent in this genre. That's why people building up their "neigong" instead of "lingli" are likely never going to be able to cultivate.
cultivation 修真/修仙
A subgenre in the xianxia category would be cultivation. Characters actively go through the stages of cultivation, and likely for the MC, because they are the main character, they successfully become a xian and exit the world at the end of the novel.
There are many stages of cultivation, usually defined at the beginning of the novel in the synopsis, and a typical example of the different levels would be this:
练气，筑基，金丹，元婴，化神，炼虚，合体，大乘，渡劫
And with a cursory search, an English translation would be something like this, albeit not with all the cultivation ranks identified.
Qi condensation (练气), Foundation establishment (筑基), Core Formation (金丹), Nascent Soul (元婴), and the names after that vary too greatly with translation and fandom so I'll jump straight to Immortal Ascension
extra info: getting into the philosophy of it all
It'd be interesting to note that the word "xiá" (俠) permeates all these genres. This is something akin to the concept of "hero", but not at all also, and I'd love to speak more on this but this post has already gone way longer than I hoped it would be, so perhaps another day.
Regardless, it is interesting to note that wuxia has a greater emphasis on "xia" than xianxia. (some joke that cultivation doesn't have the word "xia" in it, and much of that is because characters have foregone heroism and focused on gaining powers and working towards ascension instead). As a result, wuxia is more confucianism-oriented, though not without its taoism and buddhism influences.
xianxia, on the other hand, is mainly derived from "dào" (道), from taoism, which is another lengthy concept if I ever get to it.
And some may have heard of the "farming" genre, 种田 (zhòngtián). This has to do with golden fingers (mary sues) in imperialistic china, earning a wealth of money, and all that. It has nothing to do with cultivation, alike they sound in english.

Still a lot of places fight for rights, and it's of course and ongoing battle. ) fighting for the right not to be killed for simply existing outside, people had more opportunity to explore their identities and not have to worry ( too much ) about being ridiculed and unaccepted. So neopronouns naturally kind of came into discussion, and since so many people adored and related with them, they became more and more popular !! :]

Can someone explain neopronouns to me?
This is genuine. I went through both the anti neopronouns tags and pro neopronouns tags, but neither explain their sides good enough. I have questions for both sides, and I want some genuine answers without people getting mad at each other. For people answering, I ask that you keep in mind that these are genuine questions. Please don’t get mad.
For people answering, you don’t have to answer all questions. I know some of these questions are pretty heavy.
For both/neutral to answer:
• What are neopronouns?
• When and where do they originate from?
• When and why did neopronouns become more popular recently?
For pro neopronouns/neopronoun users to answer:
• Why do you feel most comfortable with these pronouns instead of pronouns like they/them?

якщо розглядати серіал з історичного контексту, то це далеко не те, чим я зараз збираюся займатися. зараз я хочу подивитися на художній контекст серіалу, хочу поговорити про т о к с и ч н і стосунки поміж Анною та Енн.
принаймні, мені вони такими й здаються.
чи бачили б ви хоч раз, аби Енн давала щось Анні?
усе, що відбувається, так це те, як приймає вона подарунки та опіку, а у відповідь не може дати й граму емпатії: згадайте хоч її капризи щодо промови на відкритті майбутнього готелю, а також згадайте її зневагу та образу через те, що Анна проявила емоції в церкви, як побачила труну дитини.
глянути вздовж серіалу: Енн страждає, Енн приймає, Енн капризує, Енн знову приймає. Енн майже нічим не допомагає, а навіть коли заходить мова за гроші, звинувачує Анну в тім, що та, буцімто, завела їхні стосунки заради Вокерівських грошей.
зокрема треба пригадати, що це саме Енн майже нічого не робить у свій захист, не може й слова проти якоїсь проблеми висловити, дозволяє собою маніпулювати, хоча, здавалось би, начебто хороші стосунки з леді, що їй у всім догоджає, мали б допомогти хоча б трохи розвити впевненості в собі.
до того ж якби Енн щиро хотіла, вона б і крізь травми та комплекси зуміла сказати, що саме треба сказати: "Я самостійна людина, я вирішу, що для мене гаразд, а що ні".
збоку Енн виникає контекст про "але я хочу народити дитину". збоку Енн ніколи не видно, аби вона ставила почуття Анни в гріш. Анна намагається допомогти їй з емоціями, Анна спілкується з нею, опікується нею, а у відповідь отримує лише зневагу за й без того стримані сльози, так іще й частково втрачає своє право на приватний простір - Енн буквально може причепитися до щоденника, що Анна звикла вести все життя.
не сказати, що я сильно психолог, але в контексті Енн я не бачу жодних теплих почуттів щодо Анни. це може бути прив'язаність або емоційна залежність, але водночас Енн підсвідомо не вважає Анну себе гідної; це може бути внутрішня гомофобія, до речі. Енн неначе хоче, аби Анна врешті перестала бути такою... Анною, собою, персоною, що виділяється, персоною, що живе своїм життям не зважаючи на людські забобони.
Анні далеко не легко, вона тягне на собі неймовірну кількість проблем, а Енн підсвідомо бажає її виправити та не хоче особливо допомагати. можливо, Енн не сприймає її як жінку до кінця - тодішні забобони в'їдалися глибоко в голови, тож Енн, людина емоційна та емоційнокерована, може ним підсвідомо піддаватись.

Енн - ІНФП. тобто людина інтровертна, глибоко залежна від емоцій, емоції то мало не її основний мозок
Анна - ЕНТЖ. праґматична лідерська екстравертка. вони на 50% цих літерок протилежні, але якщо подивитися на серіал, вони протилежні в усім, чим тільки можливо бути протилежними. не знаю, якими персонажки були в реальності, але якщо розбирати їх як саме персонажок, то ми вчергове бачимо це бридке загравання на стосунках протилежностей.
стосунки протилежностей завжди й усюди переповнені проблемами. це сварки, це незгоди, це нерозуміння, це неприйняття. емоційна сторона через свою емоційність та залежність од деяких стереотипів не приймає праґматичну сторону, що своєю праґматикою тим стереотипам опиратися може значно краще.
Анна змушує себе прогнутися під Енн. вона не може бути з Енн справжньою, бо за справжність отримує від Енн лише зневагу. у протилежностях так завжди: одна з осіб має пригнічити себе та свою дивність, якісь риси свого характеру, аби інша особа її прийняла. адже комусь прийняти простіше, - Анні - а комусь складніше - Енн.
до того ж Енн... як на мене, достатньо дурна. дурна та несамостійна. і нічого не робить, аби стати самостійною. Анна дійсно йшла до неї по гроші, а потім почала опікуватись. от тільки не думаю, що тут багато романтичних почуттів: радше Анна терпить Енн просто тому, що та єдина її не кинула заради правил та наказів. от тільки Енн цього не зробила не з великого кохання, а бо не може відповідати за своє життя. вона залежна від Анни як дійової фігури, котра зробить усе для неї. Анна - персональна екстравертка для інтровертки Енн. Енн підсвідомо її використовує. Анна цього не помічає та лише боїться залишитися на самоті.

така розумна пані Лістер утрапила в пастку самоти. і тепер вона змушена дійсно виконувати "чоловічу" роль у стосунках, хоча іпсо факто як такої ролі в реальності не існує, а ще - Анна жінка й ніколи цього не заперечувала. як і будь-яка особа, вона в стосунках має бути рівною зі своєю партнерською особою. а Енн нею керує. маніпулює. навіть якщо не сильно свідомо. Анна це приймає.
Бо краще знищити себе під протилежність і вічно стримувати сльози, аніж бути на самоті.

I'm part of the Hetalia fandom and the MEP side of the fandom are kinda still ongoing? But now using that Gacha Club art style (personally, not my cup of tea). The old style with the stolen art stuff is prolly still going around???
I see open MEP auditions that are 1 year or less young. but a completed MEP with the stolen art type of stuff style that was popular years ago, The most recent is 10 months ago (labeled mini MEP, but i'm counting it).

I miss people distinguishing between AMVs, PMVs, and animatics. especially the latter two. The amount of times I’ve gone looking for animatics only for PMVs to pop up is incredible

Benefits of ai for an artist in hardest days of disability - I can keep fulfilling my imagination even in days of very low ability to move.
