Obeisance to the Arrow - Noritoshi Kamo

#2 - The Ring Ceremony

[noritoshi kamo, 12 is engaged to his bride, 7. gojo satoru says hi.]

tw: forced marriage, child marriage (yes I'll age my characters up, let's have the angst for now), angst, Zenin clan being Zenin clan, noritoshi x reader, no use of 'y/n', fluff a bit, no smut.

Obeisance To The Arrow - Noritoshi Kamo

Growth happens sporadically. For example, you had not grown much in the first eight years of your life. Not much reason to, really. Your cursed technique became clear surprisingly early, at about 3 years of age, and since then you had lived the proper Zenin life. One of abundance, joy and familial love. If you said you wanted that cake, or that flower, or this or that, you had it in your hand immediately. Your father even talked about you being the clan head someday, impossible as it sounded to you.

It wasn’t like you didn’t know anything about the flip side of it. Your dearest cousins Maki and Mai weren’t as special as you, you noticed. Nor was your mother as important as your father, in fact no aunty or grandma were as important as their husbands. But you were special. Surely you were.

There had been talks about your powers recently, before the Kamos visited you. Your family, the whole horde of them, would test you. It wasn’t very difficult. Curses would be brought out and you would have to use Distillation to choose the best cursed weapon to kill them. You would be shown a missing person report, you had to figure out where the person was. A funner game was the Maze Game, where Grandpa Naobito would leave you in a maze, or labyrinth, or anywhere you didn’t really know, and you would have to find your way out. Compared to school, this was actually more exciting to do. Especially the praise you would get afterwards from everyone. The prodigy of the family. The princess of the castle.

You, idiot child you were, never really wondered how your family would react if you had happened to fail the tests. You never failed. You never disappointed.

So it was quite sobering to be sitting in the Pit of Punishment after your attempt to run away. A failed attempt. You were disappointing both yourself and the Zenin clan.

Naoya Zenin was lounging near the door, not actually letting the curses eat you – just enough to scare you. It was working. You were fucking terrified really, but somehow your cousin being there allowed you to not piss your pants. Naoya was a kind man.

Mai. Mai come save me. Please. Nii-chan, please come, I can't move. Maki, mother, father, grandpa, please help me. someone, please, help me out.

“Really, little Zenin- oh, should I call you Kamo now?” He laughed. “Is this any way for a lady to behave?”

I’m 8, idiot. What lady are you talking about?

Was it the ten minutes you spent in the pit, or the past two months of lady-training (as you called it), that made you grow up so fast? Somehow, after your marriage was fixed, handling tea-sets and cooking tamagoyaki became insanely important. But the worst was the lessons on womanly etiquette, on the ways of wifely manners, behaviours and duties. Unlike you, Maki and Mai were free to do as they liked, talk about being sorcerers and travelling to America. Not even they helped you, no one did. Hence came the plan Run-Away-From-Home. You got surprisingly far actually. Distillation was great for this: you could see every lapse in your home security, everything that you needed to carry, every route you should take. You had made it to the Kyoto train station before your family could get a hold of you.

No longer were you a precious child, but you never really were, were you? You were nothing more than a lucky asset to have. The Zenin clan did not hesitate to earn the returns on you as soon as possible. Unfortunately soon. You are eight.

Naoya walks down the steps into the Pit where you lay curled in a foetal position and prods you with his finger. “Up, Kamo-chan” He grins, “Back to your chambers”. The curses melt away into the darkness.

The days go by in a blur. Obedience, subservience, wifely duties, be agreeable, be quiet, be attentive, the domain of the kitchen and bedroom, marriage, husband, Noritoshi Kamo. You want to drive a machete through that man’s chest. He’s the cause of all this, yes, it’s all his fault. Now that your marriage has been fixed (and a bride price of 60 million yen wrestled from the Kamo clan) there isn’t actually any care or concern for your previously much praised cursed technique. When you think about it, it isn’t really great in any way, is it? Distillation allows the user to understand everything within the span of their eyesight. Every question answered, every mystery solved, the cloudy waters distilled – as long as you can see it. You suppose Sherlock Holmes would love this power, but you are fated to be a wife and mother, nothing more. Maybe it’ll help you find the broom closet faster. The days and months are all plagued by the same thing: Noritoshi Kamo.

—-

Satoru Gojo walks about the lavishly decorated garden. Megumi would’ve liked the food, he muses, his stark white mop reflecting sunlight over the heads of the celebrating crowd. A Kamo-Zenin engagement, and all the festivities that came with it. Ah, the celebrations of higher-ups, nothing gets them happier than child marriage. Thank fuck I saved Megumi. He didn’t have much choice in attending this. As the Gojo clan head, there are some things you must do, regardless of personal feelings. To not rock the boat. To keep the status quo as it is.

The ring ceremony is over, bride-to-be and groom-to-be having identical rings on their hands now, and they have retired back into the inner chambers of the Kamo estate. Blood Manipulation and Distillation? Satoru smiled, worth a visit.

Satoru Gojo wasn’t expecting any resistance from anyone, because A. he’s Satoru Gojo and B. he wasn’t technically doing anything wrong per se, it’s just that people distrusted his movies meeting the young couple. For good measure, what if I teach the kids the concept of free will?

He found the two sitting by themselves on a veranda, apologising to each other about the marriage. Clearly, people were too busy merry-making to notice the runaway pair. Besides, where would they even run away to? There is nowhere to go. Satoru frowned. They’re too young to be behaving like this.

“Ah, young love!” He happily startled the two with his sudden appearance, “Do you two turtle-doves have space for a dashing older brother like me?”

They did not return his wide grin and wider arms. Satoru watched as recognition clicked onto both their faces (your father had shown you two a picture of Satoru Gojo and told you to avoid him). The Kamo boy, a lean young man of 12, got up slowly and bowed to him, welcoming him with such formal words. The Zenin bride, a literal child of maybe 8, nodded her head, trying to quickly hide her tears. She said nothing, seemingly hiding behind her brand-new fiancé.

Satoru laughed at the sight. One day I’ll grind down these motherfucking old ass clans who do this shit to kids, I swear to myself. “Scared of me, little brat?” The poor child, look at her. “Aren’t you the sorcerer with the immense Distillation technique?”

You glance up at him, eyes still watery. Gojo Satoru is startling to look at. Shocking white hair, a full head taller than most people, blindfolded in broad daylight, the palest skin on his handsome features. And his abounding cursed energy, it stuns (and maybe scares) you. The blindfold doesn’t stop much, his gaze can be felt searing into your skin. There is nothing you can do. Helpless, pitiful, sold like sheep by your own family. And yet–

“Immense?”

“Aren’t you the one with all the answers? A prophet of sorts, no?”

What? In all your life, you had never thought of things like that– Could you? Were you?

“Her technique is brilliant, Gojo-sama.” Noritoshi lends a hand. “The way I understand it, a bit like your Six Eyes, yes?”

And before you could remember your wifely training, you found yourself contesting him. “Not really, the Six Eyes help him see, in the physical sense. I understand things that aren’t there really. For example, Gojo-sama can see me through my wataboshi, I am certain, but I can see Gojo-sama’s thoughts on this wedding.” Despite everything, you can't not be you.

Satoru claps his hands together, “Perfect explanation, even though that was a bit creepy” He laughs. “Can you really hear my thoughts?”

“I’m not sure”

“Try–”

Cursed Technique: Distillation

The crowds outside suddenly falls quiet, so do the other two in your room. There is no movement, no sound, no thought except for yours. Satoru Gojo’s formal shirt is from Junya Watanabe’s recent Summer Collection. His molars hurt because he ate too much daifuku at the dessert station. He disapproves of your marriage, but this is a hill that he cannot die on. He’s had some meaty ginger chicken packed from lunch for his adopted son, Megumi Fushiguro. He thinks Noritoshi is too tall and too mature for his age. He truly is impressed to see your technique. He thinks this is all nonsense, and that you are a child, and that you should enjoy your youth to the fullest as a young girl, not as a wife. He promises that no matter what, he will arrange for you to attend Jujutsu Tech School.

—--

Satoru Gojo left soon after. After a long time, you saw hope in your future.

#2 - The Ring Ceremony #4 - Cursed Bride

Obeisance To The Arrow - Noritoshi Kamo

January, 2018

5 Years After The Ring Ceremony

Things are moving again. This time, I act first.

You’ve lived separately from Noritoshi, your groom-to-be, all these 5 years. You had your own chamber and chamber-maids in the women’s area of the Kamo estate. Post the engagement ceremony, you were sent off to the Kamo household, and apparently forgotten. You haven’t seen the Zenin family since, which did hurt you at first, but then you started channelling Noritoshi’s economical use of his emotions. It’s been working great. You don't feel much about anything now.

Living as a married woman has been boring, if anything. You weren’t permitted to use your cursed technique in the household, but you also hadn’t been made to do any chores. Days would pass with you doing nothing but staring at the ceiling. Weeks spent doing nothing but picking flowers and fruits from the gardens. Months where all you did was read books on ancient jujutsu dynasties. No one seemed to care much, honestly. As long as you smiled prettily and poured tea for guests, nothing happened. No one had any expectations from you. Being awake, those days, is no different from being asleep.

On the bright side, though, the Kamo women adored you. Even Noritoshi’s step-mother Miyumi (who despised Noritoshi), the actual wife of his father, was sweet to you. It was pity, you found out eventually. Even within the most conservative jujutsu families, it wasn’t common to be engaged at the age of 8. You and Noritoshi were a special case, as they told you.

Noritoshi, despite being a bastard borne by his father’s mistress, had inherited the priceless technique, a very tricky balance of pros and cons. His father wanted him to be the next clan head, and he saw a good way to tip the scales: you. To set Noritoshi up as a stable man with an equally powerful wife, lure in the promise of strong children from both of you– Bam! Clan Head position secured. As for the Zenins, Distillation meant you could fetch a very pretty bride price, and a direct control over the next Kamo clan head. Besides, it would be better to marry you two off as children, when you wouldn’t have the option of refusing.

The Zenin Clan. Lowlife worms tangling in a can, all of them. All of them.

2013

The Ring Ceremony

Noritoshi looked very pretty, you thought, his parted bangs wrapped in white, while the rest of his usually free hair was in a top knot. What did he wear….? You can’t really recall all that. Maybe looking at pictures would help. What did Maki and Mai wear? They were there, for sure, but you really can’t remember more than that. It’s been so long since.

At some point during the ceremony, after the main rituals were over, Noritoshi had noticed that you could not keep your eyes dry anymore, and excused the two of you to retire back to the inner chambers. You remember that there was some drunk whistling at that. You walked back silently, him leading you through the corridors, till he found a suitable veranda away from the crowds.

He had looked at you with so much pity in his eyes. “y/n-san” he had said, “I know we haven’t been friends for long, but I’d like to apologise if I made you uncomfortable in any way.” And even back in your childhood you knew he meant it. “Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.”

“Shujin” - you tried the taste of the word, just as you had been taught. Master, husband, it condensed both into one, and what was the difference, really? You belonged to him now. Bought for 60 million yen. “Or do you prefer Noritoshi-san?” But after all, he too was a boy of just twelve.

“The latter, y/n–san, if that would be okay with you.”

“I don’t want this, Noritoshi-san. I want to go home.” You couldn’t stop crying. “I’m hungry too. I’m sorry, Noritoshi-san, but I don’t want any marriage or engagement. I want to go back to nii-chan.” You had kept wiping your tears with the sleeves of your bridal kimono. Not like you expected him to be able to do anything.

“Would you like some ice-cream?” Noritoshi was clearly trying his best. “We have different flavours, chocolate chip?” His new bride-to-be kept sobbing. “Ah, strawberry, then? Or matcha?”

“I’m so sorry, really–”

“No, I’m sorry–”

“Ah, young love!” Gojo Satoru had interrupted then, and brought along the best moment of that horrid day.

You barely saw Noritoshi after that day. He was busy doing stuff and being places, you suppose. When he went off to Jujutsu Tech two years ago, it was like bidding farewell to a very distant friend that you don’t know anything about.

Yet he insisted on having a private moment with you, just before he left, to formally say his goodbyes. He was allowed to visit your chambers, just once, unchaperoned. It was so uncomfortable, you grin at the memory, what does a 15 year old have in common with a 10 year old? He tried to talk about the news (you didn’t watch it) and then about TV cartoons (you weren’t that young). He said he’d visit you now and then. You said “okay”. It was thoroughly weird. You didn’t really care much about him. He felt obligated to care about you. At the end, you two just high-fived, and just before he left he kissed the top of your head and told you to keep studying. It was an odd thing to say, really, considering you haven’t been to school past the age of nine. Anyway, he went off, and you went back to playing with his younger cousins.

But you will meet each other soon. Better yet, you will meet Gojo Satoru soon. Because this time, I’m on top of things. Since the maid gasped at the bloodstains on your bedsheets a week ago, you have been informed about your wedding celebration, to take place as soon as possible. There is a flurry of activity in the household, lawyers bringing up inheritances and assets, planners talking about venues, Zenin family members coming and going, mostly without even meeting you. That’s fine by you. The main thing now is Gojo Satoru. You’ve been studying, like Noritoshi told you. This time, you’ve prepared.

The wedding cards have been printed: You and Noritoshi will be getting married by next month.

Obeisance To The Arrow - Noritoshi Kamo

Jujutsu Tech School, Kyoto

“MARRIED??!!??1?!”

Momo can’t believe it, really. “Married?? Married???? NORITOSHI –” She pants. “MARRIED?”

“Momo, don’t react like this, it’s his duty as a clan lea-”

“Utahime-sensei, HE’S SEVENTEEN!” Miwa cannot believe it either.

“Miwa, Momo, behave. He feels bad enough already-”

“Ugh, married at his age.” Nitta is actually enjoying this a bit, despite being worried. “I heard he’s been engaged to his -wife- since he was twelve!”

“WHATTT” Momo and Miwa both scream.

“-- and the girl was eight!” Nitta’s breathing hard, excited to be of service.

“I think i- i have to go sit down.” Momo says, “do you believe this, Mai? Huh, Mai?”

“And actually-” Nitta flashes

“Nitta, I’m telling you, behave yourself, all of you kids, have some class–”

“--the girl is Mai’s cousin!”

Amid a chorus of shocked gasps, Nitta earns a box on the ear by Utahime. This is the worst way it could have gone, Utahime’s head hurts at that spot near the eyebrow.

Just last night, Utahime was pouring down a bottle with Shoko on video call when she heard a pounding on her door. An ashen faced Noritoshi Kamo stood before her, trying his best to be composed. She had known about the engagement and all, but to console a student about his impending and inevitable marriage– she had really underestimated the role of a teacher. He asked her what he should do.

What was there to do? “If you don’t get married, you lose out from the Clan Head position” and by extension the chance to give your mother a good life, but Utahime didn’t say that part out loud. “If you do get married, well, you’ll have a higher rank as a married man.” Gods above, what am I saying, he’s a kid. “It’s her we need to think about, more than you, no?”.

Utahime had actually offered him a sip of her soju mix, which he graciously declined. Poor chap looked like he really needed it.

“What does she want to do?”

“I don’t know, Utahime-sensei.”

She mused over it for a moment. “Noritoshi, we’ll take care of it, okay? You go to bed now, it’s late”

But he didnt move from the chair he had collapsed on. “Sensei”

“Yes?”

“It’s not just the wedding, it’s all this, the things are set up like, the expectations on me-” he fumbled for a bit. “sensei, we’re expected to have children, as soon as possible.”

I should have brought out the whisky.

“We’ll handle everything, you don’t worry, okay? Besides, do you want to proceed with the wedding, Noritoshi?”

He hesitated. “I see it to be beneficial, and as you said, it’s more of her who’s affected. It is selfish of me, I realise. I want to do whatever would be correct, but I don’t know what.”

Yeah, Utahime thought, the poor girl will have to immediately take on the duties of a wife, managing the household and everything else. And then children, and as many as possible too. Poor child.

“Sensei, does Gojo Satoru know?”

Gojo Satoru did know. In fact, said Gojo Satoru was at the Kamo estate, waltzing through the sunny gardens with you. You in all traditionals, as was expected, and him in his dark sunglasses and sneakers.

“I’m happy to see you here, Gojo-sama.”

“Ah, I usually am not invited to things like this.” he grinned. “What excuse did you give to the elders?”

“Asuka-chan, Noritoshi-san’s cousin, is interested in you. I convinced her that I am a close friend of yours.” you said, “In fact, I am setting you up with her now.”

“No one can blame your Asuka-chan, she has good taste!”

“But I called you for something more important, Gojo-sama.”

“Hmm?” He smiled.

“One of Ryomen Sukuna’s fingers is in a school, and it’s attracting curses that would probably kill the children soon.” You looked at him, “Gojo-sama, I’ll tell you more happily, but I need you to fulfil your promise first. I hope you understand my situation.”

Both of you had stopped in front of the garden lake. Koi swam around, unaware of any Sukuna or weddings.

—---

“Yaga, Yagaaaa”

“No, Satoru, I’ve said what I said.”

“She’s sharp as a knife, and with the way things are moving, you would be thanking me for finding her! Now -” he stood up suddenly, “imagine if we had her a month ago” The Night Parade of a Hundred Demons.

“You’re trying to kill her then? Make a jujutsu sorcerer out of a non-violent cursed technique!”

“She’ll help Shoko”

“It’ll anger the Zenin Clan, possibly the Kamo Clan too.”

“Blame it on me.”

“Satoru” - and Satoru beamed, knowing he’d won. So Yaga just wanted to cause a show for fun? He didn’t even resist much. “Satoru” sighed Principal Yaga. “Be careful with that child.”

“Ah, yes yes” Satoru was already bouncing out the room.

“I mean it, Satoru!” Yaga yelled behind him. “She’s a danger to society!”

Damn right she is.

Satoru got you a cell phone secretly, which was great even though you quickly realised that you barely had anyone to call or text. The Kamos did not approve of it (apparently, you were too young for a cell phone, as your father-in-law told you, while he was planning the catering for your wedding). You had no friends, really, having been homeschooled (with your technique, all you had to do was to collect all the books and use Distillation and viola! You understood everything. Maybe you should apply for a PhD). Satoru Gojo was the only contact. Except, maybe …

Next thing Satoru got you was a lawyer to investigate if you had been entrusted with any assets. Bzzzt! Unfortunately not, the assets from the Zenins meant as a wedding gift went to your husband only; besides you were both minors. Satoru opened a bank account for you and put a little something in, for you to have some independent cash.

Satoru Gojo was a good man, despite what the elders said.

The Question of Heirs - Noritoshi Kamo

A small drabble as part of Obeisance to The Arrow, can be read on its own though

[Noritoshi brings up the topic of children while suffering from brain damage, post the Goodwill Event]

[tw: discussions on pregnancy and childbirth, infertility, mentions of infidelity, child marriage]

The Question Of Heirs - Noritoshi Kamo

Being in Jujutsu High gives you an illusion of independence. When you spend your whole day trying to best Maki in sparring, not much thought goes into what the future holds. Especially when the future is as constricting as yours and Noritoshi’s.

“Do you want children?” He asks. You two are watching the sunset out of a classroom window. After the first day of the Goodwill Event, Noritoshi is terribly injured. He’s suffered major head injuries, including a few cracks in his cranium. He’s expected to make a full recovery in a few days, thankfully. It still breaks your heart to see him bandaged up like that. Was it the shock of the disaster with the special-grade curse, or the concussion speaking? Why was he talking about children right now?

“It doesn’t matter what I want.” You shake your head. “We’ll have to have some. I think I’ll push out, like three or four, and then just leave”.

Noritoshi laughs. “Three or four? Do you think it’s so easy to just have kids?” Yup, he’s definitely not fully fixed up there. You humour him anyway.

“No, I mean, I don’t have to be in their lives for long, you know? I know my role. They’re for the Kamo Clan, they’ll be more your children really. I just have to give birth and raise them past toddlerhood.” You shrug. “Besides, I do want the best for the Clan too. And you. The more children we have, the higher is the possibility that one will inherit Blood Manipulation.”

“Hmm” and you two sit in silence for a bit.

Till he breaks it: “You don’t have to.”

“What don’t I have to?”

“Have children if you don’t want to.”

You raise an eyebrow at him. Was he mocking you?

“No, really, you don’t have to. Producing an heir is my job, not necessarily yours. Pardon me– I'm being very direct– but we can say you’re infertile and, if you are okay with it, I can have a few children out of marriage. It’s not uncommon.”

From anyone else, you would have interpreted it as a threat - bear my children or I’ll have you replaced by a mistress. But you get what Noritoshi’s saying. Knowing him, he will take care of you, children or no children. He’s offering a painless way out with no conditions; you don’t have to go through pregnancy and childbirth if you don’t want to.

My life is so weird. My actual husband is offering to keep mistresses to keep me happy. You crack a smile, it’s too funny. This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me.

“We don’t have to think about it now anyway.” You drop your head on his shoulder.

#5 - Man and Wife #7 - Jealousy, Jealousy

Obeisance To The Arrow - Noritoshi Kamo

Gojo Satoru stood on the doorstep of the Kamo Clan the next morning. “Am I too early? I stopped to pick up a present for the newlyweds!”

Within the next ten minutes, Noritoshi had been woken up, urgently dressed and washed, and sat in front of Gojo Satoru, with all the elders of the family in tow. Satoru’s sudden arrival had soured the mood of the whole family; everyone expected some upsetting news or the other. Satoru himself seemed to take no notice of this. “Is your wife bothering you already, Noritoshi-kun?” He beamed at the half-awake half-worried young heir. “She’s so bossy! As her benefactor, I can tell that she’s a handful!”.

Benefactor, huh? Noritoshi was impressed, quite frankly. Somehow or the other, you had won the support of Gojo Satoru himself, and that too secretly. Since the conversation was turning to his wife, he had no choice but to speak. I’m in no mood for your nonsense. Spit it out, Gojo.

“My wife has been sweet, Gojo-sensei. How have you been?” He answered. “Would you like some tea?” Satoru understood what he meant-- “How important is this conversation?”

“I believe we should all have some.” (“Important and involving the whole family. Sorry”)

Gojo had come here to vouch for your admission into Jujutsu High Tech School. Apparently, it was the wedding gift from the Gojo Clan to the newly bridged Zenin-Kamo one: Satoru himself would overlook the education of the young couple. On the surface, it seemed a rare opportunity to learn from the strongest sorcerer himself. But every Kamo family member sitting in the room understood the threat behind his words: The young bride is now under my protection. I’ll keep an eye out for her. Don’t cross me.

The Kamos erupted with anger, all polite social manners thrown to the winds. Noritoshi’s father threw a tea-cup at Satoru (blocked by his Infinity) and an uncle called him a “flyhead meddling in an ox’s dung”.

Satoru watched as Noritoshi sighed and started to calm people down. He requested the women to not trouble themselves with inelegant family matters anymore, and they silently left the room. Then he ordered the servants to clean up the spilled tea, get some fresh oolong out, and light some incense. Finally, he waited till his male relatives cooled off by themselves (took a few minutes) before finally speaking up: “My apologies, Father, Grandfather. But I would feel rather insulted as a man, albeit a young one, if matters of my wife were to be discussed with other men. Do I have your permission to speak to Gojo-sensei alone about this?”

“No, no– you’re too soft on–”

“Let him, son.” Noritoshi’s grandfather placed a hand on his father’s shoulder. “He’s a man now. He knows how to think. Show our Satoru-kun the gardens, Noritoshi.”

Amazing. Gojo really appreciated the boy now. He handles people so easily. Noritoshi bowed low to them and gracefully guided Satoru to walk with him in the gardens. Like you did, some months ago.

“My apologies, Gojo-sensei.”

“No, no, the tea was good though.”

“Ah, it’s from our own gardens. So about Zenin-san…”

“She wants to join Jujutsu High." Satoru replied. “You’ve no problems with it, I suppose.”

“Hmm” Noritoshi took a minute to fully consider it. It's fine, right? I don't see how this could hurt anyone. As long as she behaves herself, it should be fine. “None, I think. Besides, her cousin Mai studies with me too.”

Noritoshi had wanted to look Gojo fully in the eye and ask, why? What does she have over you that you are helping her so much? What secrets do you keep amongst you two? Why does she trust you so well?

Of course, Noritoshi didn’t say a word. He just nodded and signed the stack of paperwork for your school admission. He had full rights to do so. He was your guardian, after all. His hand stayed a bit before signing a paper declaring that ‘The liability of said sorcerer's death falls upon the undersigned.’ But he signed it anyway.

His family was screamed at him later on for allowing you to leave for school. He saw you snickering at him from behind the curtains, watching him get yelled at for your sake. He scoffed. What a fucking pain in the ass kid.

—--

“You know, you could have just told me.” Noritoshi and you are back in your bedroom again. You look up from the Jackie Chan movie playing on the TV as you laze on the sofa.

Damn. Noritoshi is just getting out of the shower, towelling his hair dry roughly, clad only in his soft blue bathrobe. You can see drops of water dripping down his face to his broad chest. You quickly look away. Damn, Kamo. “Aghh, cover up, idiot! What the heck are you doing?” You grit out. “Shameless ass!”

He grumbles at that. “At least say thank you”. Ungrateful little bastard. You manage to piss him off like no one ever can. Except Todo, maybe. “If you had only told me about Gojo-sensei beforehand, everything would have gone by a lot smoother.”

You choose to pretend that you can’t hear anything, instead turning up the volume of the TV. You know exactly how to get under his skin. Actually, you weren’t too sure that Noritoshi would agree to your schooling as quickly as he did; you don’t actually know Noritoshi, do you? You did have a few cards up your sleeve to get him to acquiesce to your wishes (you had those cards on everybody, actually. It’s good armour for someone as defenceless as you.)

Noritoshi chooses to answer your silence with his own silence. You two were leaving for school less than a week now, even though you were going to the Tokyo school (Satoru Gojo’s personal request). Less than a week and he’d be rid of his annoying immature wife.

He huffed at the thought, pulling a yukata onto him. You make it a distinct point NOT to look at him when he’s changing, no matter how red your face gets at the thought. One week and I’m out of here. He casts a look back at you. Oh, you’re blushing? How cute of you. His heart softened a little. Her, a sorcerer? Gods look after her.

Obeisance to the Arrow - Noritoshi Kamo

#7 : Jealousy, Jealousy

[Who are you calling 'onii-chan'? And why does Noritoshi hate it so much?]

[tw: noritoshi kamo x reader, arranged marriage, forced marriage, child marriage, mentions of adultery, couple slurs ig, jealous and pissed noritoshi, reader gets a crush on a non-noritoshi entity, fluff]

#6 - Husbandly Duties #8 - Ice-Cream Date

Obeisance To The Arrow - Noritoshi Kamo
Obeisance To The Arrow - Noritoshi Kamo

Noritoshi Kamo was nothing if not a responsible man. If he’s been given a wife to be responsible for, he’ll damn well make sure that he’s doing it properly. It doesn’t matter that the said wife is 14 years old. That’s why he’s already halfway through ‘Raising A Strong Teen Girl: Tips and Tricks for the Single Mother’ in the Kamo library, only two days after the wedding ceremony. Noritoshi Kamo, as we asserted earlier, takes his responsibilities seriously.

The family is still mad at him for agreeing to Gojo’s demands yesterday. But what’s done is done: you will be attending Jujutsu High. In a week, in fact. The best way to proceed, Noritoshi believed, was to arm you to do your best there.

You’re scrolling through Instagram when Noritoshi sits on the sofa next to you. Just as the book says, Rule 1: Always maintain a comfortable environment with your difficult teen. “Morning” He greets you. You ignore him. Fucking brat. “Alright then, I see you’re busy. I had some extra dango I wanted to share, but I can-”

“- I’ll have it.” Your attention is still on your phone, but at least you’re talking to him. The book’s working. Rule 2: Offer incentives for good behaviour.

“The dango comes after though. We have to talk about your schooling first.”

“UGH!” You look at him with such disgust in your eyes. It’s okay, Noritoshi, she just lacks proper communication skills. Remember, you're the older one. Be calm, be calm… “Fucking fine! What’s there to talk about?”

It must be noted here that this behaviour was reserved only for Noritoshi. With the servants you were kind. With the elders, you were polite and obedient to the bone, having been training to be so since childhood. And with the young Kamo kids, you were jolly friends.

You weren’t stupid though. Your relations with the above mentioned people were set in stone. With Noritoshi, you know, that the relationship you set when your marriage is still raw will set the tone of your relationship for the rest of your lives. If you were to behave with subservience now, he’ll expect you to lick his feet forever. No, now is the time to be difficult, to upset the power balance, to get the upper hand –

How the fuck did I get stuck here?

Noritoshi is droning on and on. You’ve lost track a good while ago. Ancient sorcery clans…past users of Distillation… respectable martial arts for nobility…Kamo heritage…proper curtsies…student discipline… Everything that Noritoshi deems important for you to know, he's making sure that you know it. He's even got the whiteboard out.

At least you can chew on the dango Noritoshi gave you. You simply nod along to whatever Noritoshi is saying, not hearing a word, happy to be given dango. From Noritoshi’s point of view, even though you’re not participating in his lessons, you’re still acting decently. Rule 3: Expect only minor behavioural improvements over time. You're not snappy; your husband is happy enough.

Or so he thought. Why then, is he watching you giggling and playing around with, of all people in the universe, his goddamn half-brother?

—-

Miyumi, the wife of Noritoshi’s father, never extended her open and visceral hatred of Noritoshi towards you. She’s been like a caring aunt to you all your life, helping you adjust to the Kamo household when you first stepped foot in there, letting you go without doing any chores, and supplying you with as much freedom as she could vouch for. Like most of the Kamo women, she pitied you too.

Of course, not a drop of that pity extended to Noritoshi. Not only was he constant proof of her husband’s adultery, he had also replaced her son, Kanato, as the rightful heir. Unlike most Kamo couples, Miyumi and Noritoshi’s father had actually married out of love. She had remained in love, devoted, beautiful, caring, high-status, respectful, obedient to him all her life, even bearing him a firstborn son– only to be replaced in one fell swoop. And by whom? A low-class non-sorcerer whore? With a dirty little kid simply because he could toss some blood around?

Miyumi couldn’t even bear the sight of Noritoshi.

She didn’t mind hearing you complain about him though. She liked it when you visited her chambers, she liked talking with you. After so many years, she knew that her hatred was pointless, but the inertia of the hate did carry her forward in this stifling household. As she poured you another cup of tea while you talked about Noritoshi’s newfound determination to be a (boring) teacher who only talked about martial arts without actually letting you practise it, Miyumi smiled and called for her son.

“He’s just back from Oxford for a week, he’s studying political history there. You haven’t met him, I suppose, little one?”

You shake your head. “I haven’t, Miyu-chan.”

Kanato’s heavy footsteps on the wooden flooring herald his arrival.

You remember this moment for the rest of your life. Kanato Kamo, your first ever crush. Tall, lean, angel-faced, short hair dyed blonde, wearing pearls on his neck and opals on his fingers, eyeliner on his thin eyes, and a piercing above his smiling lips. Why was he walking in slow-motion? Why did your heart jump when he petted your head? Why did his voice sound like rich dark chocolates when he asked you to call him ‘onii-chan?’ Why… why does his face look so much like Noritoshi?

Your husband, Noritoshi, and his half-brother, Kanato, both look exactly like their father. Even though Kanato is a thousand times cooler and he’s in college and he wears his yakuta like a prince and you call him ‘onii-chan’ and he says he’ll teach you how to spar hand-to-hand.

Miyumi is pleased that you two get along well. Kanato chuckles at his mother's adoration for you, promising with a wink to take great care of you. You think you almost swoon.

—-

For one, Noritoshi didn’t know that Kanato was back home. Two, he definitely didn’t know that Kanato was back home to fool around with his wife. Why then is he now watching you giggling and playing around with, of all the people in the universe, his goddamn half-brother?

“Kanato.” Noritoshi slides open the door to the training rooms. It’s pretty big, stored with various weapons, targets and dummies to practise with, and lined with a soft mattress to break falls. Noritoshi was just here to shoot some arrows when he chanced upon this scene. “I did not know that you were here.”

All three of you noted that Noritoshi called his elder half-brother by his name. Yes, Noritoshi did rank higher than Kanato, but he was still younger in age. So it’s like that, huh, Noritoshi?

“It’s a big house, Noritoshi-san. It’s hard to keep track of everyone.” Noritoshi watches as Kanato winks at you and you laugh again, a blush on your face. (“Everyone, including your young wife.”)  “I was just teaching my little sister here the basics of karate. Since she’s going to Jujutsu High and all.”

“I see.” Noritoshi’s voice is measured. For the first time, it clicks in your head that he might not be happy seeing you so comfortable with his half-brother. And for whatever reason, you actually feel a little bad about it. “I’ll finish her lessons today then, Kanato. Why don’t you go rest a bit? You'd need it, I presume.” It’s clear that there’s bad blood between the brothers. Both just toe the line between politeness and hostility.

“Presume less, little brother, you worry too much about me. I’m afraid I’ll have to finish her lessons myself, though.” Kanato grins wide. “Since she asked me to, herself.”

For a second, you think they’ll throw hands (they don’t). You’re starting to think that it isn’t even about you. They simply cannot stand each other. In that case, you choose to pipe up, “I think I’d like to retire actually, I’m tired. Thank you for the tutorial, onii-chan.” You smile at Kanato, who returns the smile, and turn to appease your husband. “Noritoshi-san, if you could help me to my chambers?”

“Of course.” Noritoshi gives you an arm. You wave Kanato good-bye as you walk down the long corridors to your room. As soon as you two are out of earshot, his words bite. “Antagonising me will get you nowhere.”

You get it, really. Kanato’s very existence ruffles all of Noritoshi’s feathers. And to see him get this questionably friendly with his wife… yeah, it’s best not to mention the crush at all. You decide that even though you haven’t done anything wrong per se, but it’s still hurtful to Noritoshi. All right then, you decide. I’ll humour him this one time.

So imagine his surprise when he actually hears you apologise. You've never been anything but rude or indifferent to him; to hear you say that you didn’t realise how your actions looked on the outside, and promise that you won’t be like that again! It genuinely shocks Noritoshi out of the sulky angry mood he’d slipped into. Rule 4: Always reward any good behaviour.

Noritoshi gets you two things: another plate of dango and a promise to teach you to spar himself. Maybe, you decide, cheeks full of sweet dango, it’s okay to be nice to Noritoshi, just now and then.

bonus:

“Noritoshi’s still being an ass, I see. Not a lot’s changed here.” Kanato is lazily scrounging through his mother’s collection of jewellery. Kanato likes the more minimalistic ones, a tad bit on the high-fashion hippie line. Miyumi is happy to oblige her son, despite his father’s disapproval. Not like he approves of Kanato in any way. Not since Noritoshi, the perfect son, exists. Besides, he’ll be back to England soon.

Miyumi’s eyes sharpen at his mention. “My god, did that brat do something to you again? I swear, I–”

“Whoa, mother, no.” Kanato, ever smiling, calms her down. “He was just super jealous that I was training with that kid. y/n. Honestly, mother, I think it was adorable. I just don’t like the way he speaks to me.”

“He has no manners. Do you know he goes out of his way to avoid me?” Miyumi sees her son pick up two lockets, one a Kamo family crest engraved on hard mahogany, another a pattern of ducks in emeralds and rubies. “Don’t bother choosing, take both.”

“You sure, mother? I’ll kidnap some of your earrings too.”

“Yes, yes, when do I even wear them? Just don’t get them rusted.”

Kanato smiles.

Hey Handsome!

[Noritoshi Kamo gets hit on, right in front of you]

[stand-alone drabble, part of Obeisance to The Arrow universe | fluff, light jealousy, arranged marriage, contractual marriage | 1k words]

Hey Handsome!

Friendships are a difficult world to navigate, especially for someone like you who’s been raised in strict isolation. Even with your cursed technique that is particularly aimed at solving problems, how do you solve this problem: Saori, who you befriended a week ago and have brought along to introduce her to Noritoshi, has been steadily flirting with him for the past 15 minutes.

Not like your husband has noticed. You had caught up with him after his archery practice, with his sports bag hung over his shoulder, and all three of you are now walking around Nihonbashi with ice cream in your hands. Saori is subtle– maintaining plausible deniability just in case. A brush of her hand against his (“an accident!”), asking if she could try a bit of his ice-cream (“I asked you too, though!”), giggling at everything he says (“he’s just so funny, you know!”), and why is her voice so much cuter and softer now?

Granted, Saori doesn’t know that you two are married, you only told her that he’s a good friend of yours. You suppose it’s not fair for you to be mad at her shooting her shot: Noritoshi, if you take a completely unbiased objective view, is really fucking good-looking. Why is he so tall? Why do his lean muscles strain against his workout clothes? Why do his built arms and broad shoulders draw your eyes? Why does his hair, parted and wrapped like always, seem so much more gorgeous, like a prince from the Edo era? And his face, it really sours your mood to admit this, his face is a masterpiece. With a blessed face like that, he could’ve been a rockstar-idol; it’s as if someone took a list of traditional markers of male beauty (lily-petal eyes, a refined mouth, ski-slope nose, straight eyebrows, delicately carved chin, long lashes and nobly-pale skin), and crafted a man with that as a to-do list. If it wasn't for his ice-cold standoffish demeanor, he'd be getting hit on everyday. No, you can’t blame Saori. You would’ve done the same if you were in her place.

And technically, you can’t be mad at Noritoshi either. You were the one who established that your marriage exists only in front of the elders. I’ll be your perfect wife and lady when you need me to be, and you let me be otherwise when I want to be. You don’t even wear the wedding ring, not wanting your peers at Jujutsu High to see you differently (Noritoshi does keep his ring on, but he has his own reasons for that; not like Saori seems to care). The perfect deal struck between you two included a tacit understanding: as long as we keep it from being a scandal, our love lives are our own, with no interference from the other.

Listen, it made a lot of sense when you two shook hands on this. It was equitable, mutually beneficial, and fair. What isn’t fair is the fact that you want to gouge out Saori’s pretty fucking eyes and throw your melting ice cream at her pretty fucking sundress. She’s so pretty too, you have to admit. And so is Noritoshi. And they seem to get along so well. It’s not fair.

Noritoshi’s picked up that you’re upset, though he’s not very sure why. You’ve been walking alongside him and Saori for the past 15 minutes without butting in a word while Saori has been chattering non-stop. You were so excited to introduce your first non-sorcerer friend to him too. Truth to be told, he doesn’t like meeting new people that much, and it’s been a while since he’s talked to a non-sorcerer, but he wanted to oblige you, as well as make sure your new friends are good to you. She’s only just started to interact with people. Noritoshi thinks as Saori accidentally bumps into him. Again. God, he really wants to go back to practising. She really can’t be blamed for her taste in friends.

Your eyebrows have hardened, as if you’re trying to make a decision. Maybe she finds her annoying too? Or maybe– is Noritoshi inwardly pleased about it? Doesn’t the thought of two girls fighting over him stroke his ego? Doesn’t he get to feel silly things like this too? Doesn’t he, despite being Noritoshi Kamo and all that entails, get to enjoy that his wife is jealous?

He doesn’t stay with that thought for too long (his face is getting redder by the second), because the way your cursed energy is darkening, this situation might not end well for anyone in your vicinity, especially not Saori. As casually as he can, he throws an arm over your shoulders and presses a quick kiss onto your hair. It’s not too intimate to be PDA (both of you would rather die) but it sends a message, especially with the ring glinting on his left hand, which is just-so-absentmindedly playing with your hair. You’re getting really good at reading his mind and playing along: you lean into his side immediately.

It’s a small gesture, done with practised ease. Saori gets the hint. She doesn’t stop talking about the price hike in Bottega Veneta though, but this time without any attempts to flirt with Noritoshi. She’s not evil that way. She might be a bit too chatty for your introverted duo, and she might not fully get the relationship between you and Noritoshi, but she’d rather grow a wart and eat it before breaking girl code: never ever eye a man that your friend likes.

Noritoshi supposes that Saori is alright. It took you a (secret) Distillation or two to understand her intentions, and another Distillation on your husband to truly sate your insecurities. He doesn’t have any secret romances with anyone, you’ve gathered. It wasn’t like you were expecting him to. Still, it does make you happy, selfishly.

You don’t even bother telling yourself things like, I just don’t want to be humiliated if my married husband is caught with another girl, or I don’t care if he likes someone, I just didn’t want it to be Saori, that’s all. Unfortunately, you are too self-aware: you might have a teensy-tiny crush on Noritoshi.

Hey Handsome!

written as an inverse of #7 - Jealousy, Jealousy, where Kamo gets jealous.

timeline wise, this fic is set three weeks after reader has joined Jujutsu High. Kamo is in Tokyo now and then, for missions. Right before this fic, he was sent on a solo mission near Nihonbashi, and is staying in a hotel there for the weekend. Reader drops often to meet him. Nothing bad has happened yet :)

“It’s just… it’s been 16 years since…” Yuuji finds it difficult to put it into words.. “... since he last saw Divine Dog White…”

[when your kids inherit the Ten Shadows, Megumi Fushiguro gets to meet a long lost fluffy friend again]

[1.5k words   |   fluff, angst, hurt/comfort, post-canon   |   part of Obeisance to The Arrow universe]

Its Just Its Been 16 Years Since Yuuji Finds It Difficult To Put It Into Words.. ... Since He Last Saw

“Hito, Kiko, don’t.” Noritoshi glares at the twins who have been caught red handed trying to ride atop the pair of dogs. In fact, it’s the 4th time they’ve been caught. They refuse to stop trying. “Just sit, okay? Just sit down for a bit. Let dad make his call.”

Noritoshi Kamo is tired. Truly, soulfully, tired. His day began at 5 am today, because you had to go to work earlier than usual, and are still not back yet. Handling 4 kids and their own separate timetables all day, while working as a teacher for Jujutsu High… at 34, he’s not old, but goddamn does his body ache like it is. And now, when he was looking forward to putting the kids to bed and waiting for you to come back and uncork this good vintage and maybe wear that nice lingerie you bought last week and be asleep by 10 pm, when tonight was supposed to go like all other nights, he’s got a huge fucking emergency on his hands. Not that he can show it, of course, in front of the kids.

“C’mon, pick up, pick up. Asahito! I swear, if I see you– Tsukiko! Tsukiko, hands where I can see them! Good, okay, now sit down and count till 100.” Noritoshi is doing his level best to maintain any semblance of calmness. It isn’t working. Naomi and Chihiro, the older two kids, are terrified. Their usually monk-calm dad is frantically calling people, while his Flowing Red Scale is on, as are two discs of Slicing Exorcisms, ready to strike at the slightest provocation. Not at them, of course, but still. The twins, Hito and Kiko, are too young to realise the gravity of the situation.

Click. Finally.

“Hey Noritoshi, it’s me, Yuuji. Megumi’s driving right now.”

“Yuuji!” Damn, Yuuji thinks, the man seems out of breath. “Give the phone to Megumi, quick.”

‘But he’s driving, we were playing basketball and now we’re coming ba–”

“Put it on speaker then! Yuuji, it’s urgent.”

“Huh? Wait.” Yuuji puts him on speakerphone and gasps. “Oh my God, is y/n pregnant again?”

“What?”

“Damn, that’s your fifth one.” Yuuji chuckles. “You must really like being a dad.”

“It’s not–”

“Five is a lot though –”

“MEGUMI!” Noritoshi shouts out. “Are you there?”

“Yeah” Megumi leans towards the phone that Yuuji is holding out. “Congrats, Noritoshi.”

“Oh, Megumi, thank God.” Noritoshi’s voice is palpably more stable. “y/n isn’t pregnant. The twins’ cursed technique showed up, about 5 minutes ago. Megumi, they have the Ten Shadows.”

Megumi almost crashes the car.

—-------

“Noritoshi, love, I’m here!” You’ve run all the way from the parked car to your drawing room. It’s bursting with people: Noritoshi (battle-ready), Naomi and Chihiro (hiding behind their dad), Yuuji (fascinated), Megumi (teaching the twins to release the large black dog that’s running amok amid your fragile china-display and Edo era vases), and your little twins (actually listening to their uncle, surprisingly).

“Mom!” “y/n!” “Honey!”

Half an hour ago, you had been working on a new telecom venture when your assistant rushed in, claiming an urgent call from your husband: “Love, it’s the twins, Hito and Kiko- cursed technique- unstable control- dinner- Ten Shadows!” It takes a while for you to piece together the information, but when you do, you turn pale as death.

The twins inherited the Ten Shadows? Together? They share one cursed technique? They share the fucking Ten Shadows?

—-------

The black divine dog was sent back, thanks to Uncle Megumi Fushiguro. “The other one was already gone when we got here.” Megumi says, leaning back as everyone sits in peace around the low tea-table on the ground. Yuuji is playing cards with the boys, Tsukiko sits in Megumi’s lap, steadily stealing extra cookies from the table, and Naomi is quietly talking to her dad. “They summoned the Divine Dogs by accident, don’t punish them for it, okay?”

“I know.” Noritoshi sighs. “I didn’t even know two Ten Shadows users could exist at the same time.”

“It’s very rare.” Megumi replies. “But rare things are common nowadays.” Since the Culling Games. Since it all got messed up. 16 years ago.

“It’s so dangerous for a 6 year old to have the power to accidentally summon Mahoraga. Megumi-chan, what did you do at that age?” You still haven’t kicked the habit of calling him Megumi-chan, even though he grumbles about it a lot, especially since the twins are starting to call him that too.

“Well, I had Gojo-sensei to show me the basics, and then I figured it out myself. But I was a very different 6 year old than Hito and Kiko.” He looks down at Tsukiko who’s trying to hide her growing bundle of cookie-loot. “Maybe it’d be safer if I stay with the kids for a bit…”

The kids are delighted to hear this, of course, Uncle Megumi who lets them get away with anything, and buys them whatever they want, he’s their favourite. (Uncle Yuuji is very hurt by this proclamation).

“Yeah, that’d be great, Megumi-chan. Thanks.” You yawn.

“Say, Hito, Kiko!” Yuuji says. “You called both the dogs? Can you call them again?”

“Now, Itadori?” Noritoshi is still wary. When he first saw the dogs, he almost killed them on the spot, thinking that someone had sent them there to hurt his kids. It had taken a second for light to enter his head: Ah, these are my children’s shikigami. They inherited the Ten Shadows…. Oh my God- my kids inherited the Ten Shadows. “Take the yard outside then, not in here.”

Except for Megumi and the twins, who are working on calling the dogs in the middle of the yard, all of you stand in the veranda. Noritoshi’s Flowing Red Scale is on, ready, just in case.

“It’s just… it’s been 16 years since…” Yuuji finds it difficult to put it into words.. “... since he last saw Divine Dog White… back at the detention center....”

The shadows under the twins have definitely started to hollow out choppily. Megumi shouts out words of encouragement, telling them to “steady, keep steady!”, while you can tell that Noritoshi is growing more agitated by the second. The volatile control over their shared cursed technique seems to shift between the twins randomly. The shadows underneath, like turbulent sea-water, split.

Megumi Fushiguro is no stranger to loss. It’s a fact of his life. He hardened his heart to this a long time ago, he's bid his good-byes properly in private. He’s done his due mourning when Divine Dog White died over a decade and a half ago.

Why does his throat feel tighter? Hito and Kiko are making the huge dogs shake hands with a delighted Yuuji. Why does he remember the damp walls of that old apartment, where his dad left him and Tsumiki? Why does he remember Tsumiki’s laugh when the white dog, invisible to her, tripped her as she walked? Those snowy walks with Gojo-sensei, when he brought all three of them mochi, and an extra one for the dog? Those tired midnights in Jujutsu High when the dog curled around him in his sleep? Nobara and Yuuji, back in their teenage years, begging him to summon his precious dog? Nobara who still remains 16 in his memories. Gojo-sensei. Tsumiki. The White Dog.

If anyone notices a tear stuck in Megumi’s lashes, they don’t mention it. They let him sit on the grass, keeping watch. The overprotective parents have loosened up, allowing Naomi and Chihiro to pet the dogs too. It’s nice, he thinks, everyone getting to enjoy a night like this. It doesn’t come by often. These small moments like playing with the dogs, eating meals together, hanging clothes to dry, taking walks in the setting sun, these are privileges they've earned with blood. Families, especially happy ones, are rare; Megumi’s proud that you and Noritoshi have managed to create one. As for him, he’s content sitting on grass and watching.

“Megumi-chan, come play!” Tsukiko beckons him. “Shiro, go jump on him.”

“Shiro, no–” But these aren't Megumi’s shikigami, they don’t listen to a word he says. He’s immediately tackled on the soft ground by the weight of the white furball, who’s wagging his tail and licking him all over, as excited as the kids to be summoned. They even smell the same, Megumi remembers. Still, mine had softer fur.

Naomi valiantly comes to his rescue. Noritoshi offers him some tea before bed. Him and Yuuji are staying the night, you’ve declared, and keeping watch over the twins. Despite all the loss he’s endured his whole nightmare of a life, at the end of the day, there’s still a family he’s part of. There’s still hope, there’s still love, there’s still soft white dogs.

—-------

The battle is over: all 4 kids have been put to bed. Yuuji whistles softly, complaining that Hito wheedled five stories and three lullabies out of him. That reminds him: “y/n, you know when Noritoshi called us, he seemed so stressed, I thought that you were pre-” but Noritoshi whacks him on the head before he gets to finish. Megumi isn’t done entertaining the twins yet.

Its Just Its Been 16 Years Since Yuuji Finds It Difficult To Put It Into Words.. ... Since He Last Saw

a/n: timeline wise, this work is set faaar in the future, when the Kamos have returned to and established themselves in Japan. Regardless of the merger, the amount of cursed energy cultivated from the Culling Games have GOT to have fucked up effects on the kids born afterwards, like the remains of nuclear bombs. Naomi is the oldest kid at 13, Chihiro is 10 and the twins are both 6. reader would be 30, noritoshi 34, yuuji 32, and megumi 31. if it was unclear, Asahito and Tsukiko are nicknamed Hito & Kiko

Man And Wife

Man and Wife

The Kamo family crest, mon, is a crimson-coloured lotus, Guren 紅蓮. The Kamos are canonically the most conservative of the three clans, along with the inherited Blood Manipulation technique, it would make sense that their obsession with blood would show in the colour of their crest.

Lotus symbolises purity from the dirt. Here it would be like, "our noble blood is better than the those of the rest". It speaks to their elitism, their jujutsu heritage, their dignity through the generations. All of which are pinned onto Noritoshi's chest.

The wataboshi (bridal veil) does not cover the face of the bride usually. Here, the reader's face is covered because it's too big for her, both literally and metaphorically. Plus, her cursed powers work through her eyesight. Having her blindfolded makes the wedding guests more comfortable being in her presence.

a/n: my old dog of a laptop finally gave up before i got to refine noritoshi's face a bit more but i'll take it. can u tell that i enjoy drawing women's clothing so much more? i hate not being perfect at first try, but im slowly learning to draw. im not an artist folks, clearly.

Obeisance to the Arrow - Noritoshi Kamo

#8 : Ice-Cream Date

[why should you trust Noritoshi Kamo? Why should he trust you?]

[tw: noritoshi kamo x reader, arranged marriage, Danny DeVito, forced marriage, child marriage, small filler chapter a bit to round out the plot, omg they’re getting along, house captivity, fluff]

#7 - Jealousy, Jealousy

Obeisance To The Arrow - Noritoshi Kamo

“This is not fun at all.” You huff at Noritoshi Kamo. “I want to throw flying kicks.”

Your husband has got you doing warm-up shit for the past half an hour: running, touching toes, stretching. For someone who spitefully promised to replace Kanato, his half-brother, as your martial arts tutor, he’s not letting you do much of martial arts. Only the promise of letting you shoot arrows from his bow is making you not immediately leave the training room.

“You’ll injure yourself if you do all that without any prior training. We’ll go step-by-step. Now–” Kamo leans over you from behind, lightly pulling your waist to correct your downward dog form (you reckon your blush can be put down to exercise; you’re just 14 after all). “– Distil me, and predict my next movements. That’s useful in combat.”

Is this a test? Noritoshi knows that you’re strictly forbidden from using your cursed technique, under the threat of heavy punishment. Maybe he’s trying to get me into trouble so I can’t go to Jujutsu High. But… didn’t he sign my school admission papers himself? Did he change his mind?

“I never use Distillation, not since I came here.” You’re not taking any chances. Going to Jujutsu High is literally the only way you can be independent. Or else you live the rest of your life like Miyumi Kamo does: disrespected and discarded once her use was over. So you lie through your teeth: “I don’t even remember how to use it.”

“It’s impossible to forget your cursed technique. It’s engraved onto your brain, body and soul. So go ahead, Distil me.”

What game are you playing, Kamo?

“I can’t.”

“You already did, didn’t you?” Your heart skips a beat. Fuck. “Every night when you think I’m asleep. So go ahead now,” Kamo face is straight, no taste of humour or anger in it. “Read my thoughts.”

There’s no point hiding it now. You’re struck seeing your situations so plainly: Noritoshi Kamo is the heir of the opulent and influential Kamo Clan. You are his wife and nothing more. He has the power to decide whether your cursed technique usage goes punished or praised. He has the power to ruin your life. Right when you were forming buds of friendship, you are starkly reminded of the difference between your stations.

And you can’t not be you. “I don’t take commands.” I’m fucking this up so bad. “You might be angry about the whole Kanato thing, but don’t burden me with your issues. I don’t take commands.” Shit. I’m done for. I’m not going to Jujutsu High, am I?

Time extends infinitely as you await the judge to pronounce your sentence.

But perhaps... perhaps you don't understand Kamo, not even after all the times you've read his mind through and through, because he simply nods. Nothing more. “A request then?” He makes an effort, you can tell, to soften his voice.

You stand still like a statue. All he was trying was to give some space to practise your cursed technique; he just ended up pushing you back into your shell. Or rather a fortress, where you, a scared little child, hoard other people’s secrets, to be used against them when the time comes-- the only defence you have. And to think that he was actually doing so well trying to get you to come out of there.

How do I fix this? “Do you want to go out for ice-cream?”

“Out?” You're shocked. You’re usually not allowed to leave the Kamo estate; the last time you did was maybe... 2 years ago? You don’t even remember.

“It’ll be my treat, don’t worry. No one will say anything.”

Can he actually do that? Can he convince the elders to let me out? You’re a threat to society, you’ve internalised that by this point. Isn’t it wrong for you to go out?

—---

“I love going out! This is AMAZING!” You can’t stop taking pictures of everything- everyone! So many people! So many things to see! The smell of roasting dalgona, the lanterns hanging from cables overhead, the latest streetwear-clad bikers smoking, the businessman walking briskly, the mother scolding her children! Aeon Mall, Porta, Kyoto Station Building– you’re going through all of them, making the most out of your day out!

“You’ll be able to go out whenever you want when you’re in Jujutsu High.” Kamo, carrying your many shopping bags, reminds you calmly. You seem to have gotten over prior spat.

“Take a picture of me here!” “I want to try double-decker donuts!” “Let’s get these Prada shawls, please, Noritoshi-san!”

She’s so lucky she was born into money. Noritoshi enjoys seeing you this ecstatically happy. It’s just the two of you, Kamo doesn’t need any bodyguards or handlers. As you sit for an Italian dinner, he decides that it’s okay to breach your previous topic.

“yn, I’m very curious–”

“Do you think those shoes that guy’s wearing are ugly? 'Cuz I think they’re Danny DeVito level ugly.”

“– Gossiping isn’t good. As I was saying, I really want to know how your powers work, yn. Would you be okay telling me?”

You laugh at him, cheeks full of penne alfredo. “I don’t know much either, frankly. I wasn’t allowed to look into it, you know. Besides, if you’re looking for a method to block it, give up. Not even Gojo Satoru could do that.”

Kamo’s eyes are keen. “Why not?”

“Because it works on photons of light. Gojo’s Infinity works on matter, not light, because otherwise he’d be invisible. Distillation can speed up light in a very specific way so that I can 'see' glimpses of the past... understand the story, in a way. Anything I perceive with my eyes, I can Distil. Everything I can see, I know.” You say. "I kept getting headaches because it was just too much information at once, so I made a Binding Vow. I have to ask a very specific question so that I get a very specific answer, but in exchange I get to know answers for at least 50 years back in the past."

To think this talent was to be wasted. “You’re incredible.” I’ll protect her. I’ll have to.

That also reminds him. “So all those times you Distilled me at night, you didn't ask if was sleeping?"

You smile sheepishly, "I was sure that you were."

He returns your smile. A rare moment. "So you know me, then?”

“Thoroughly.”

“Then you know that I am not your enemy.”

“I reckon.”

“And that I am trustworthy.”

You laugh. He might be as trustworthy as the sun, but you don’t know how to trust others. Still- "I'm sorry for Distilling you when you were asleep."

"I'd rather you ask me before you do that the next time. It's more polite." He uses the toasted bread to scoop up some pasta sauce. You copy him. "I see that there's no point keeping secrets from you?"

"Absolutely none."

"Then it's my right that you keep none from me, either."

Eh? He's not wrong but... He's asking you to trust him. Like friends do. Like married couples do. For all that he is, Noritoshi Kamo has no leverage in front of his wife: you alone decide how much you want to reveal to him.

"Alright, then. Whatever you ask me, I'll answer you honestly, as long as it is okay to do so." You promise. Kamo wipes a smidge of sauce off your cheek with a tissue. His way of saying, "Thank you."

“Noritoshi-san, teach me to spar properly. I don’t want to appear so weak among my classmates.”

“Is that a command?” You’re about to excuse yourself when you notice that he’s smiling. Holy fuck, he’s making a joke??

“Yes, Lord Kamo.” You play along.

“As you wish, Lady Kamo.”

i think it would be really funny if maki and megumi started pulling all of their friends into the zenin clan as adopted family members just. whenever it makes something convenient. they pass being head of the zenin clan around so none of the higher ups can hurt them. you want itadori executed? well he's head of the zenin clan now. you want maki to face punishment for her crimes? actually she's head of the zenin clan so she can do what she likes to her clan. you want yuuta dead for finding a loophole in a binding vow? you're going to kill the head of the zenin clan? think about how that would look. gojo's out of the prison realm and now you want him executed too? did you know. did you know he's actually head of the zenin clan--

I do love the way Toji, a man who’s been dead since the beginning, haunts the narrative.

Like he was a man doing his best to survive in a world that didn’t want him, everything he touched turned to poison. He had ruthlessness down to an art form, everyone’s life is worse off for having known him.

He is the holy grail, he haunts every single person he has ever met, he’s the reason for all of this, this has nothing to do with him. he will come back again and again and again the narrative isn’t through with him.

The Samurai

The Samurai

Chapter 5

Pairing: Choso x reader (Naoya x reader)

Warning: angst, fluff, kissing

Headsup: Naoya just wants your love his trying to be a changed man. Key word trying

1 , 2 , 3, 4

___________________________________________

When you had woken up in ther morning in Naoya's arms you had hoped that the horrors of yesterday were nothing but a bad dream, but now as you stood infront of the high court judge it became a reality.

Naoya stood on your left as the council men all sat on the chair placed at your right.

"So before us today we have (Y/N) Zenin, who the head of our clan suspects of spreading a narrative that we are as a clan are stealing the Towns men money through of Sake pubs" said the high rule judge.

"Is there mis-quotation from this statement" the high rule judge said to the Kamo head.

"None what so ever" he replied.

You simply sighed at his statement, you had hoped that the Kamo head had come to his senses once his drunken stupor was completed for the evening.

The dealings of men were slowly going to be the end of you, you thought.

"The proceeding may begin now" the judge stated.

"Lady Zenin state you case"

Your mouth opened as you were about to speak only for Naoya to begin talking.

"My wife would never spread a false accusation that would cause an up roar with the people of your lands. Her father is one of the men who benefits off of this deal, so why would she go against her own father" Naoya said matter of factly.

"The same father who married her off to you. You Naoya Zenin, the proclaimed tyrant and womanizer. A man who she would seek to get revenge on, for the life she has no say on. Perhaps she was spreadin rumors to smight you and her father" the judge said starring Naoya down

Naoya stood quietly now; his brow furrowed. Naoya knew that he was falling in love with you after last night, when he got a glimpse at the real you, when for the first time he made love to you rather than fucking you; yet he knew your relationship before yesterday was hanging by a thread. He didn't know whether to believe the words the judge was saying or not, but he knew whether he believed it or not he had to defend you, he could deal with these conflicting thoughts later.

As Naoya was about to speak the judge spoke up again.

"Is there no one who can declare Lady Zenin innocent?" The judge said with raised brows looking around the room.

You looked at Naoya who looked irritated and the little hope you had for your relationship was beginning to fade away just as quickly as it appeared. After Naoya promised to treat you like a woman he loved you had hope and after last night it was solidified, but now he stood beside you as if struggling for word the man who would speak up against men twice his age was at last for words. You began to think maybe he didn't want to defend you maybe this was his plan after all to get rid of you and you had been played like a fool for the last few hours.

"I can prove it" Everyone had turned to see who spoke up, it was none other than Choso.

Just as you were about to lose hope your Samurai was coming to the rescue.

" I was with Lady Zenin by request of Noritoshi-sama, for her protection"

"We cannot confirm this statement from Noritoshi as he is busy with business, you know that" the judge said.

"I know" Choso said looking down and back up at the judge.

"Then how can we take your word?" The judge said demeaningly.

"I confirm her innocence, and state it on my honour as a Samurai"

The councilmen began looking around as if shocked by him saying this. Naoya himself was taken a back by Choso's words, you stood confused as to why there was a commission of whispers about what Choso said.

"Why are the people reacting like this?" You whispered to yourself.

"Choso had stated it on his honour as Samurai" Naoya replied back hearing the whispers to yourself.

You still did not quite fully understand what that meant.

"Samurai Choso you know what that means" the judge said looking at Choso sternly.

"Yes. I do"

"Since you have stated the innocence of Lady Zenin on your honour as a Samurai, you have revoked your status as a Samurai. You honour for her innocence" The judge said bowing.

___________________________________________

You sat on your bed, facing away from Naoya. You couldn't believe what had just happened, Choso had given up his status for you and yet Naoya stood there as if a yokai was going to give him the answers to prove your innocence.

The little hope you had for him was nearly gone, and you were starting to believe that perhaps the thing Naoya told the day before were just an attempt to get you more submissive.

You turned your heard to see Naoya putting on a new kimono before the two of you would leave the Kamo lands.

"(Y/N)" Naoya said softly walking over to you.

"My wife, I know that you must feel overwhelmed by what had happened now, but I assure you I shall stay true to my word"

His word you thought. His word could not even prove your innocence and had just caused Choso to lose his status.

You just looked at him, face blank and heart sucken.

"I wish to go outside, I want to see the khoi fish before we leave" you said looking forward refusing to turn and look at him.

"You may, my wife" Naoya said looking at you.

He watched as you got up and left. He knew he should of just spoken up and said something, even if he looked foolish. He knew you just wanted him to be on your side and the little doubt that had made him overthink for a minute caused him to nearly lose your innocence.

Naoya had wished he could of gone with you the khoi fish but he knew you needed space. He knew all these things yet didn't know how to act upon them. He just wish you knew how much you were beginning to mean to him.

___________________________________________

You stood by the khoi pond that was at the far end of the garden. You didn't actually want to se the khoi fish you just didn't want to sit in the same room as Naoya for the moment.

You starred at the khoi fish just trying to bring your mind somewhere else the current place you were.

"Lovely aren't they"

You looked up from the pond and saw Choso looking down at the fish with his hands behind his back and a small smile on his face.

"Samurai Choso! I'm so sorry for what had happened. There was no need for you to do that , please I'll regain your status no matter what please forgive me. I -"

"The fish look fat dont they" Choso said cutting you off.

"Samurai Choso, I'm sorr-"

"They're probably being overfed" he said cutting you off again.

"Samurai Choso I-"

"I'm Choso now Lady Zenin" he said looking at you smiling down at you.

You looked at him confused at his current state. He seemed to be happy or so it seemed to you.

"What happened earlier today, is not your fault, neither is it Naoya-sama's. It is the way of life you see, some call it fate" he said trying to lessen the evident confusion on your face.

"I don't understand" you said looking down back at the pond.

"Lady (Y/N), what happened today happened for a reason and if I lost my honour I am glad I lost it defending you" he said grabbing you hands.

You looked at him wide eyed and in a state of disbelief, and all he did was smile back at you.

You couldn't believe this was the same stoic man you had seen at the Zenin Estate, that was barely willing to say his name to you.

But what you didn't know, was that the few hours you spent with Choso unlocked apart of his heart he never wished to re-lock again. If this was the prophecy his mother spoke to him about as a boy then he was more than glad to give up his title to be with you. He didn't know how he'd end up with you given that you were married to Naoya but he knew he would be with you in the end.

You smiled back at Choso.

"The fish are fat" you said looking into each other's eyes.

"Extremely" he said and you both laughed.

He slowly raised his right hand to hold your face. You slowly moved towards him.

"So what will you do know?" You asked leaning into his touch.

"Who knows, perhaps I could travel the world" he said moving closer to you.

"You'd visit me still?" You said moving a step closer so you two were only a step away.

"I always will" he said as he closed the gap between your two face.

When his lips met yours it was as if time stood still and nothing in the world matter beside this moment with him.

He gently slipped his tongue into your mouth and you let him explore. He moaned into his mouth and you could feel him smile.

The two of you slowly pulled away with a stran of saliva still connecting the two of you.

You laughed as he wiped your lips clean of him.

Choso had let go of your face and the two of you stood starring at each other smiling like two love struck teenagers.

You turned your head for a second and that's when you saw it.
