That Which Was Asked - Tumblr Posts
Sam, Jack, Gibbs, Janeway, B'Elanna, Harry for the character meme, please? :)
Oh. Man. And you said I was evil, @starrybouquet!
Right. *takes deep breath* Here goes:
Push off a cliff - Eeeeep. Um. Can I say B’Elanna, just because I know she’s awesome and would be able to grab a rock and save herself? (And then, of course, scale the cliff and kick my ass?)
Kiss Gibbs. I mean, why wouldn’t I?
Marry Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack. Did I mention Jack? I assume there’d be more kissing and stuff, what with the being married and everything. Definitely, definitely Jack.
Set on Fire Harry. I’m so sorry, Harry. But. Yeah. I love ya but there were some times you were a little bit annoying.
Wrap a Blanket around Janeway. Bloody hell, the poor woman needs someone to take care of her.
Be Roommates with My bestie, Sam. Because I just love her. And even if she can’t cook, we can muddle through together. (Plus if I’m married to Jack, does that mean she lives with us both? ‘Cause then I’d step aside and just squee over the two of them having a-not-so-illicit affair. Ooooh, I could be their cover for being able to break regs...)
3, 24, 25 for the asks? :)
3. Do you feel more connected to the moon or the sun?
Definitely the moon. I love it when it’s a clear enough night to see the moon in all of its stages.
24. Are you more of a hopeless romantic or realist?
Hopeless romantic. I think most shippers are!
25. What’s a song that gives off good vibes anytime you listen to it?
Oooh... A lot of the songs I listen to are of the sad, dark, angsty variety. A good vibe song... I might have to have a think and come back to this one!
Thanks for the asks! :)
One Word Writing Prompts - 09 for sam x jack
Prompt: 9 (Chocolate) for @captain-sassy-socks. Utterly fluff tastic.
Chocolate brown eyes gazed into luminous blue and it was love at first sight.
He watched them together, telling him the stab of momentary jealousy was wholly irrational. He'd introduced them after all. He'd wanted them to get along – more than that, really. He'd wanted to make her happy and he'd thought – hoped – introducing them might help.
Judging from the smile on her face, the delighted laugh, it certainly had.
Oh, there were still shadows under her eyes, still tell-tale signs of stress and frustration that he could spot easily having known her for so long, but the light was back in those eyes, too. A genuine happiness that had been gone too long from her face.
Part of it was his fault, he thought. He'd let the powers that be dictate their lives for too long, staying in DC when he could've come home to her. Though she'd been in Atlantis for a year of that time, afterwards, it'd taken him a further six months before putting his foot down and insisting that they either let him retire altogether or allow him to transfer his office to one of the oft empty rooms at the SGC.
At first, he'd been worried he'd waited too long, that their long, long, long-distance relationship wouldn't stand the test of time. But then they'd settled in together, finding their new normal, and everything had been perfect.
Sam's promotion to Brigadier General and subsequent appointment to the base commander of the SGC had surprised no one but her. She'd been thrilled, stunned but thrilled. But the long days took their toll and the added burden to that she was used to carrying left her quiet when she came home to him. He had and would never deny her any comfort she needed, and showered her with reassurances and love and affection as much as he could.
But there was something missing, a piece of the jigsaw neither of their jobs could fill.
They'd discussed children – adopting, fostering – but the timing wasn't right. Though he'd reduced his hours, having a child was a full-time job and they could still both be called up at a moment's notice to save the world. Again.
So he'd thought about it, and thought about it. Sam needed a distraction, something else other than himself to come home.
Something... more.
And so he'd done it. He'd looked into it, sought out Cassie's advice and approval, and he'd gone ahead and brought the brown eyed interloper into their home to meet his wife.
He'd been worried about it all day, wondering what he'd do if she didn't accept the newcomer with the enthusiasm he hoped she would.
His fears were unfounded, though, and he found himself watching as the bundle of chocolate coloured fluff licked and sniffed every part of her he could reach, drawing sounds from Sam he'd never heard her make before.
"I take it you don't mind...?" Jack asked after a moment, crossing the floor of the living room to join his wife and new addition. His knees cracked as he got down beside him, but the pain was forgotten in an instant as the puppy woofed at him and tried to jump up to lick his cheek.
"Of course not. He's gorgeous." Sam beamed at him, laughing again as the puppy bounced between the two of them with unadulterated joy. "Does he have a name?"
"Not yet. I thought I'd leave that up to you." He grinned at the smile on her face, at her giggle when the as of yet unnamed puppy decided to focus all of his attention on her. “He has good taste; you’re clearly his favourite.” “It’s just because I’m new,” she protested, but she continued to lavish the puppy with affection, her joy contagious. Jack sat back against the sofa, grinning as she giggled again.
This was what he’d wanted, what he hoped to see. He’d known she could do with a distraction, a reminder of why they did the jobs they did. And dogs, along with Sam, had always been his favourite people.
27: Boxes, Sam/Jack
Prompt: Boxes, requested by both @joyhargraves on Twitter and @writingherhope on Tumblr. If either of you want to send another prompt since you shared this one, feel free.
Boxes, boxes, everywhere.
Moving house had never been one of her favourite things to do. Sam supposed she should be used to it by now; her childhood had been spent moving around to fit her father's assignments. She knew her Mom hadn't enjoyed that facet of the life of an Air Force wife, but she'd put a brave face on it and accepted it as necessary in order to be with the man she loved and keep their young family together.
As an officer herself, she'd grown used to living with a view to never really settling in one place. While she'd been based in DC, she'd been hoping for a reassignment back to Colorado Springs and some of the boxes she'd taken with her instead of leaving them in storage had remained untouched. Getting to head back to the Stargate project had been her dream, and getting to stay long enough to buy a house of her own was everything she'd never thought she'd have. In fact, she'd waited until two years into the SGC to put down a deposit on her own place, moving out of military housing into a bungalow that was well and truly hers.
In all honestly, she'd thought that would be it. The end of the boxes. Even when she'd gotten engaged to Pete, she hadn't given much thought to moving out of her home. It was one of the reasons his buying a place without discussing it with her had blindsided her – and when she'd imagined lugging boxes around from her bungalow to the house he'd chosen, she'd realised she couldn't do it.
Didn't want to do it.
The house was perfect, really, everything she'd described to him during the early days of their relationship.
It'd been the man that was the problem.
She'd resigned herself to moving again after her assignment to Nevada, but she hadn't minded that time. The boxes she'd packed had gone to one of either two places; some had gone with her to the small apartment she was renting out, the others had gone into storage at General O'Neill's house.
Jack's house.
Their house, albeit unofficially.
They'd decided the best thing to do was to rent out hers, and store both of their belongings in his larger home, which also meant they had somewhere to stay when their duties required them to be at the SGC.
Their teammates didn't understand it at first, not even when Sam moved back to the Springs to retake her position on SG-1. They thought it weird that the couple were unofficially a couple, and still spent more time apart than they did together.
And now she was packing again, preparing to leave the house she'd started to think of as home even if it only truly felt like it when Jack could be there with her, heading off to Atlantis, where she'd not only be in a different state but in a different galaxy.
Sometimes, she questioned her life choices. Sometimes, she wondered if her father had been lying when he said she could have it all.
“You all set?” Jack stood in the doorway of their room, hands in his pockets. He’d wanted to see her off as it were, so she’d opted to be transported to the ship in Earth’s orbit from the comfort of their home rather than the SGC with the rest of the new personnel heading to Atlantis. It meant they could say their goodbyes without any prying gazes, meant their relationship could stay just theirs - with a few exceptions - for a little bit longer.
“I’m all packed, not sure if I’m ready.” She finished sealing the last box, one she would be leaving under the safekeeping of the SF’s who would be checking on the house while neither of them were in town.
“You’ll do great, Sam.” He moved to take her in his arms, sighing when she all but melted against him. “I wish you could have half as much confidence in yourself as I do.”
“Confidence isn’t really the issue,” she admitted, lifting her head to accept a short, soft kiss. “I’ll miss you.”
“I’ll miss you, too,” he replied immediately, leaning in to kiss her a little longer. “But we’ll keep in touch, and either I’ll come to you or you can come visit me. I’ll need regular debriefings you know. Gotta keep updated on what’s going on in the Pegasus galaxy, too.”
She smiled but it didn’t last long; they both knew her reports would be delivered by video over a data burst and that trips back and forth were going to be few and far between.
Her watched beeped, signalling it was time. They pulled apart after a final kiss, reluctantly putting enough distance between them to ensure he wouldn’t be caught in the transporter.
Jack gave her the lopsided grin she’d come to know and love, his hands going back to his pockets. “Stay safe, Carter.”
“You too, Sir.” She smiled though her eyes were suspiciously bright. A flash of light, and she was gone. # Post-Atlantis Boxes. More boxes. For two people who were kept busy by their jobs, they’d somehow managed to accumulate a hell of a lot of stuff.
Still, Jack found himself whistling as he cut the tape sealing one of the boxes, rummaging around inside it before deciding its contents wouldn’t be needed in the immediate future so could be set aside for later.
Sometime.
There was no rush, no rush at all.
And that thought had him grinning as he reached for another box, and the grin was still on his face when Sam walked in with yet another box in her arms.
“What’s so funny?” She asked as she walked past him to set the box down on the kitchen table. “Unpacking isn’t usually something to smile about.”
“Packing isn’t,” he corrected, abandoning the boxes in front of him to get closer to her. He took her in his arms, turning her from the cardboard she’d been about to open and kissed her thoroughly before she could question it. “Unpacking, Mrs O’Neill, is much more fun.”
She grinned back at him, the same dopey smile he knew was on his face. “That’s Mrs Carter-O’Neill to you,” she said, lifting her arms to wrap them around his shoulders.
They’d been married for all of three days, opting to do so as soon as she’d returned from her stint commanding the Hammond and he’d demanded - and received - a transfer of office to the SGC. Neither wanted to waste any more time, deciding it was long overdue for them to make their relationship official.
Having tied the knot, they’d decided it was time they finally cleared out the spare room and garage, clearing out the boxes they’d amassed over the years while they sorted through those he’d brought with him from his flat in DC.
“C’mon, fly boy,” Sam murmured a few moments later, drawing back when he went to kiss her again. “The sooner this is done, the sooner we can celebrate.”
“Celebrate what?” He asked, reluctantly letting her go so they could set about clearing at least some of the spaces in the house.
Her smile was blinding, her eyes bright. “Finally having it all.”
Jack grinned, understanding the reference. Finally was right indeed.
#
I couldn’t end it on an angsty note, so needed to keep going till there was a happy ending. Hope that's okay! :)
16 for Sam x Jack, please? 💙
The Stillness Between Prompt!fic - 16 Daybreak
It was a gradual process, the slow rising of the sun banishing the darkness of night once more. Streaks of pinks and purples and orange coloured the sky, and the sun itself glowed like a flame through the trees that marred its ascent over the horizon. Though she loved the night sky and the stars that were visible against the inky black, there was something peaceful about waking in time to see the dawning of a new day.
She sat on the chair on the small wooden dock, listening to the dawn chorus as the waking birds called out to one another and flew from their nests to embrace the day. A mist rose off the surface of the pond as the water slowly began to heat, though she knew from experience it would remain cool most of the day – certainly not warm enough to go skinny dipping, no matter how many times a certain General suggested it with a grin and a wink.
She closed her eyes to listen to the sounds of the world waking up around her, and took a deep breath in, exhaling slowly. The scents of dew damp grass and delicate blossom soothed her, and she wished not for the first time that she'd come to the cabin much sooner than she had.
There was something almost magical about the place Jack had kept inviting her to; something that just felt like home. As she sat on the dock, an oversized sweatshirt that held his scent wrapped around her shoulders, she felt like she could finally breathe for the first time in a very long time.
For a moment, she allowed herself to imagine that they could stay at the cabin forever. That they could forget about their jobs, about the real world that existed along the dirt path that wound its way through the trees towards civilisation. Oh, she wouldn’t want to be cut off completely - she’d be open to visitors, like Cassie and Daniel and Teal’c - but there was something appealing about the thought of being away from it all, just the two of them. “Coffee?” She caught the fragrance of the freshly brewed beverage before she heard his voice, a little rougher than usual due to the early hour.
Turning to accept it with a grateful smile, Sam thought he looked adorable with his sleep mused hair and the lines of the pillow still creasing his cheek but thought better of saying it aloud. Instead, she memorised the image he presented and stored it deep in her memory so she could summon it whenever she needed it. “Thank you. I hope I didn’t wake you.” He shrugged and sat down in the chair beside her, sipping from his own mug. “I don’t usually sleep in when I’m up here. Woke up and you were gone, though. Everything alright?” Her smile grew, her eyes bright with affection she made no attempt at disguising. She didn’t need to, not anymore. “Everything’s fine. Better than fine.” She took a sip from her cup, smiling again when she realised he’d made it exactly the way she liked it. She saw from the quirk of his eyebrow that he wasn’t convinced and that just made her want to smile all the more. “Really, I’m fine.”
Part of her felt guilty about smiling so much, but she found she couldn’t help it. She hadn’t had much to smile about over the last few months, but she finally felt she was content with the world and the circumstances she’d found herself in.
Yes, she’d lost her father and buried him not more than a month before, but she’d also been fortunate to have so much more time with him than she’d expected, years in which they’d managed to not only repair their damaged relationship but grow closer than she’d ever imagined they could be. She missed him, of course she missed him, but she was so grateful for the time they’d had together.
“What time are Daniel and Teal’c getting here?” She asked instead of trying to explain it; they’d ventured to the cabin a few days before their teammates, partly because they’d had a lot to talk about and partly because both Daniel and Teal’c had coincidentally found things they just had to do before they could join them. Sam didn’t believe their excuses for one moment but, again, she was grateful to them for allowing herself and Jack to have some time to themselves.
The new normal, as it was, had been surprisingly easy to adapt to. The shift in their relationship had been a long time in coming and, although they’d agreed to take things one step at a time, she didn’t think she’d ever tire of waking up beside him, cocooned in his arms and in the knowledge that - finally - they were together.
“Daniel sent a text to say they’ll be here around noon.”
Sam nodded but didn’t comment. She let her gaze wander around at their tranquil surroundings, noting that the rising sun was starting to warm the air, too, and highlight the ripples in the pond he’d said held no fish.
After eight years of perfecting their silent communication, they found they didn’t need to speak their thoughts aloud. Sam reached out to take his hand, smiling to herself at the easiness of it all. She smiled again as he laced his fingers through hers, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye to see the satisfied grin on his face.
Though she wouldn’t change the journey they’d taken to get to this point, Sam found herself enjoying the stillness, the silence, the precious moments where they could just be.
Hrmm. Any headcanons about Teal'c and Cassie's friendship through the years?
Oh, yes!
Teal’c and Cassie bond quite early on about the strangeness of humans and being aliens on Earth. They have this kind of special club going, which Jonas becomes an honorary member of in season six.
While Cassie knows she’s got Janet, Sam and Jack as go-to parents on Earth, Teal’c is the Uncle figure she goes to when there’s something bugging her she can’t talk to them about. (She tried talking to Daniel, but he kept trying to give long explanations about things and really all she wants is someone to agree with her, someone to say ‘indeed’ so she doesn’t feel weird.)
Cassie develops a love of candles because of Teal’c. He teaches her how to meditate. It’s how she keeps calm during stressful situations, and helps her deal with her grief when Janet dies.
Cassie and Teal’c also bond over their frustration over the whole Sam/Jack thing. She complains to Teal’c about Pete, and is told to be patient. Teal’c was always confident the engagement wouldn’t come to anything and his two friends would find their way to each other; Cass isn’t so confident but is thrilled when he ends up being right.
Hi! You’ve been great with helping others find fics and I’ve spent weeks looking for a fic I read years ago. Would you be able to help me, please? The fic takes place while Sam dates Pete. SG-1 is on a mission to a planet where times goes by a lot faster than on earth. They get stuck on this planet (possibly due to a meteor shower) for what ends up being years bc the Stargate doesn’t work, but it’s only weeks in earth time. Sam and Jack get together and have kids while on this planet. TIA!
It’s more @starrybouquet who’s been finding fics than me but I think I recognise this one.
Could it be Time is an Abstract Thing by breezer2?
It doesn’t have the meteor shower, though.

For the fanfiction writers ask 1, 22, 36😊
Thank you for the asks! :)
1. What is your preferred place to write (notebook, laptop, cellphone, etc.)?
I’ve always preferred pen & paper/notebook but in the last few weeks, I’ve damaged the ligaments in my right hand so typing it is for the time being. It’s still not easy but better than nothing!
22. A fanfiction cliché you can’t help but love?
I’m an absolute sucker for the ‘having to pretend to be together’ cliche. Especially when it leads to the ‘oh noes, we’re actually really in love’ realisation/happy ending.
36. How do you keep yourself inspired?
I like to find inspiration in rewatching episodes/films/reading books and putting my favourite characters in different scenarios. I’ve got lots of story ideas, struggling to write them at the moment!
8, 14, 22 for the fanfic asks? 🤗
Thank you :)
8. What’s the biggest “challenge” for you as a writer?
Focusing on one thing at a time! I’ve got too many ideas in my head and am struggling to focus on just one of them at the moment, which makes it hard to write anything!
14. What’s your favorite character/person to write for?
Sam. Sam is my favourite, followed very very closely by Jack. I just love trying to get into her head. Don’t think I succeed 95% of the time because she’s such a complex character, but I love writing her so very much.
22. A fanfiction cliché you can’t help but love?
I’ve already given one, but there’s no limit to my love of cliches! Another cliche I love is the ‘just the two of us lost on an alien world’ cliche. I cannot get enough of reading those fics!
2, 9 & 12 for the fanfic ask please ☺️
Thank you for the asks!
2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
I kinda want to try writing kid!fic. Unexpected kid!fic.
9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?
In Pursuit of Normal. In hindsight, I should’ve stuck with the Chimera fix-it two-parter I had planned and not made it into a multi-chapter fic.
12. Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?
There’s not a specific episode, rather quite a few of them - mostly those I wish had been a little different! Grace, Chimera, Affinity, Threads to name a handful ;)
11, 18, 29 for the fanfic asks? :) (I thought about putting the collaboration one as a joke too :D)
Thank you for the asks :)
11. Is writing your passion or just a fun hobby?
Writing fanfic is a fun hobby; writing original stuff is my passion.
18. Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?
Too many! I think in trying to be organised, I just end up confusing myself! I’ve got a folder full of resources, and I use two programmes for writing - Write or Die and Plottr.
29. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
Oooooooh. Now. This is a hard question. I don’t know, to be absolutely honest. I appreciate each fanfic writers unique style and take on situations; I don’t think I’d be brave enough to attempt writing in any of their universes. That said, if anyone wants to take over In Pursuit of Normal, I’d be open to it!
As for collaborations... *grin* I feel favourably towards them!
For the Important OTP Questions: Sam x Jack, 2, 16, 17, 23😊
Thank you for the prompts @tvshowsaremylife
2) Who is always horny and will have sex at any time, at any place and at any time?
Jack. Because, you know, after years of waiting, it’s like he’s a teenager again. it’s not just about the sex, though - it’s just being able to touch her. He’s a very, very touchy-feely person.
16) Who is more seductive when they are drunk? and who is louder in bed?
Sam is more seductive when drunk, or at least thinks she is. A couple of glasses of wine and she gets the dutch courage needed to make a move. Not that she needs dutch courage, because he’s always game, but she’s a little more self-conscious that Jack.
As for who’s louder, it depends on who’s taking charge ;)
17) Who is more protective?
They’re absolutely equally protective.
Jack tries not to let it show because he doesn’t want to offend her, but he is hugely protective of things Sam doesn’t even seem to notice anymore. For example, some jerk makes a comment about her being a woman in a position of power and it rolls of her now - she’s used to it, learnt to live with it and not bite. Jack, on the other hand, will not let it go so easily.
Sam is very protective of Jack when it comes to him being down on himself. She’ll try not to let him dwell on past mistakes because she knows he’s his own worst critic and won’t tolerate it when he puts himself down.
23) Who thinks they are not good enough for the others love? and who’s more afraid of losing the other? Who thinks they keep messing up, only for the other to tell them they don’t need to worry?
They’re both afraid of messing up, and neither really thinks they’re good enough for the other. Jack thinks he’s too old, Sam has a lot of hangups from her exes. They’re both afraid of losing each other but are kind of used to the fear, too. It makes them value the time they have together all the more.
They both think they mess up, so they both reassure each other.
Thank you again for the asks! If anyone else wants to prompt for one of my OTPs, the original post is here
7, 9, 27 for the OTP asks? 😊
Thank you @starrybouquet :)
7) Who said “I love you” first? and who ends their arguments in a fight with “Because I love you”?
Jack. He got in there first because Sam struggled, initially, to get the words out. She finds it easier now they’ve been together for a while, adding a ‘love you’ to the end of phone calls that sounds casual to anyone who overhears but Jack knows how long/far it’s taken to get to that point so is thrilled every time.
He’s also the one who ends arguments with ‘because I love you’, though Sam will often roll her eyes and say it to him when he’s bemoaning the fact he’s older than she is and why would she want to be saddled with him when she could have her pick.
9) Who wakes the other up in the middle of the night to tell them a cool dream they had? Who has the most nightmares, and who sings them back to sleep after?
If Jack wakes up from a cool dream, he just has to share it with Sam - usually because she’s in it. Sam’s more likely to wake up and hastily scribble some calculation down before she forgets it.
At first, Jack has the most nightmares, though not as many now he has Sam beside him. She doesn’t sing him to sleep but will cuddle into him and hum Twinkle Twinkle Little Star like her Mom used to when she was little and that’ll help him go back to a dreamless sleep. The longer Sam serves in a command position, the worse her nightmares get. Jack holds her while she cries, soothing her with his hand rubbing small circles on her back.
27) Who orders take out at two in a morning? and who wakes the other up at three in the morning to go downstairs with them to get a glass of water because it’s too dark?
They’re both equally likely to order takeout at two in the morning, usually after an evening of stargazing where time slips away from them and they realise they’ve not eaten in hours.
Sam will often wake up for a glass of water and, if for whatever reason she needs to go downstairs, she’ll try and do it without waking him because he’ll often sleepily insist on going with her ‘just in case’.
Thank you again!! :)
