One Sunny Day

(Stardew Valley)(Haley x Female Farmer)

Chapter 30

The rest of the days of summer have finally been nothing but the sun shining down on us. The rain and thunderstorms have all cleared up, just in time for the season to come to an end.

Unfortunately that meant more work for me now that I have to water my crops. A lot of them had fully grown as well, but I waited until the rain stopped to pick them. I have been so busy with the farm that I haven’t had much time to visit Haley again. She has written me a letter reminding me about my hat I’ve left at her place, but I wrote back saying I’ll have to pick it up soon.

This morning I ran over to my mailbox to see if she responded, but instead of a letter from Haley, it was one from Demetrius.

“That’s odd. I don’t usually get mail from him,” I mumble to myself as I unfold the letter.

Dear Danny

Tonight at around 10 o’clock PM, a rare and beautiful event will take place.

The moonlight jellies will be passing by Pelican Town on their long journey south for the winter.

We’re all gathering at the beach to watch. You don’t want to miss this!

See you tonight,

Demetrius

“Did you receive the letter from Demetrius?” a voice calls out from behind me, causing me to jump.

“Give me some warning next time. Jeez!” I huff as I try to collect myself. Leah and Elliot have somehow snuck up behind me. I hadn’t even heard their feet shuffle across the field.

“Looks like she did,” Elliot answered Leah’s question for me.

“You ARE going right?” Leah speculates, raising a threatening eyebrow at me.

“Duh, of course I will. I wouldn’t miss an event as sick as this,” I say as I wave the letter around in the air. I had no idea they had so many cool events in Pelican Town. Grandpa had never told me about any of them when he would visit!

“Alright. We will see you there. Don’t be late,” Elliot points a finger at me and I put my arms up defensively.

                                                     🌻 🌻 🌻

Making sure to not cross Elliot and Leah, I show up a few minutes early to the event. I scope out my surroundings to find the best spot to hangout that has a good view of the water.

There are a bunch of floating candles set up in the water around the edge of the docks. A few people are already here as well like Jodi and Vincent, Penny, Maru, Demetrius, and Mayor Lewis. I walk over to Maru and Demetrius to chat with them about the event.

“The 'Moonlight Jelly'... what a remarkable species! We're very lucky that they stop here on their long journey south. It's unknown why they are attracted to light... very curious,” Demetrius spews out as I approach him.

“I’m so glad I get to experience this. You make it sound magical,” I responded.

“It truly is. You’re going to love it,” Maru chimes in. “ My dad loves to study them every year during their migration. I decided I’m going to help this year.”

“I hope your studies go well. Good luck!” I smile at the two of them. I had noticed Leah and Elliot had arrived and I didn’t want to hold them up much longer.

“Here she is. She beat us here!” Elliot gasps as I run up to them.

“How is that even possible? We were right there in your cabin and we still were beat,” Leah laughs as she replies to Elliot.

“You guys scared me by telling me not to be late. Didn’t want to test those waters so I decided to be early,” I chuckle.

The three of us pace around the docks while chatting. The rest of the town begins to fill up around us, getting good spots along the edge. We notice our path crosses by Mayor Lewis who is intently staring off into the horizon.

“Good evening, Danny, Elliot and Leah. The Moonlight Jellies are close... I already saw one glowing in the distance. Once we launch the candle-boat they'll come up to the docks and say hello,” He explained to us as we got closer to him. He bends down and leans over the ledge of the dock. He could fall in at any time due to him not holding onto anything. I see the candle-boat in question when I take a peak over the edge to see what he is up to.

“I dare you to push him in,” Leah whispers to me.

“No way,” I swing my hands around in denial, refusing to do that to Lewis. As annoying as he can be at times…

“Boooo,” The two of them chant, playfully. I wave them off and look around at everyone along the dock.

Just as I’m taking in everyone’s excited expressions, I catch my gaze veering off to the right towards the beach entrance.

Haley and Emily are making their arrival to the event, dressed in outfits Emily must have made for the occasion. Emily is decked out in glow-in-the-dark fabric made into a hoodie. Her shoe laces are glowing as well, matching her hoodie. She has a few patchwork glowing stars on her shorts as well.

Haley has on a dark blue dress with the same patchwork stars decorated across the body of the dress. She has her hair draped over her shoulders like usual, but there is a glowing headband tucked onto the top of her head.

I watch her eyes scan the crowd and land on me. From all the way over here, I can tell her expression lit up when she noticed me. She immediately starts racing over to my side.

“Long time no see!” She sings out as she comes to a halt in front of me. “Hey Elliot. Hey Leah!” She shoots the two a friendly wave. They both shoot her one back.

“Hey Haley. I like your outfit. I never expected to see you wear something like that,” I say.

“Do you not like it?” she pouts, thinking I meant it derogatorily.

“No, I love it! I didn’t mean to make that sound sarcastic.” That seemed to wipe the pout from her face. She gave me a nod of approval and went back to gleaming brightly.

“We are going to let you two be. We don’t want to third wheel you guys on your date…” Elliot grabs Leah by her arm and starts tugging her away. As they shuffle awkwardly away, they give us a thumbs up and start pretending to make out with the air, mocking us.

“So…this is a date?” Haley questions me, leaning on a wooden post of the dock.

“If you’d like it to be?” I reply with a smirk. I reach my hand out and take hers, rubbing my thumb against the palm of her soft hand.

“Nahhhh,” she rolls her eyes and shakes her head, obviously joking. Making a bold move, I yank her from the post she was leaning on and spin her around into my arms. I wrap around her back, holding her by the waist. She seemed to enjoy that just as I thought she would.

Just as I did that, Mayor Lewis announces he is about to release the candle-boat. The crowd watches as the torch in his hand erupts into flames. He bends down over the edge and places the flame to the wick of the candle. It ignites immediately and he pushes it off into the vast ocean.

Everyone watches in anticipation as the boat sails away with the current. It is such a magical moment with all the candles lit up and floating in the water. It truly feels like Haley and I are the only two in the world right now. My arms are still wrapped around her waist, but she has fully sunk into the embrace. She has her hands clasped onto my forearms and is leaning her head back onto my chest.

“Are you falling asleep?” I whisper in her ear as she seems very quiet and relaxed.

“No but I am comfortable like this,” she whispers back.

Suddenly, a blue glow emerges from the depth of the water. It was a Moonlight Jelly. It wasn’t alone though. The single blue glow was soon followed by what seemed like a million more. I hear Jas and Vincent squeal in joy, and many more murmurs of excitement ripple through the crowd.

There are some big ones, some little ones, but all of them are equally as pretty. They light up the ocean like the stars of the night sky.

“What a way to celebrate the last day of summer,” I whisper to Haley again. I don’t want to disrupt the mood by talking too loudly.

“That’s for sure,” she whispers back.

A couple more minutes go by of all the Moonlight Jellies dancing around in the water around the docks. I hear a few gasps and I start alertly looking around at what caused people to start gasping. My gaze lands on the water right in front of me. The thing that made everyone gasp was a faint teal colored glow. Unlike all of the blue Moonlight Jellies, this one was different. The teal Moonlight Jelly stood out more than all of the others and it was right in front of me.

I take Haley by the chin and guide her gaze down to where I was looking. Just like everyone else, she let out a gasp.

“It’s the Rare Green Jelly!” she breathes out excitedly. She starts squirming in my arms, freaking out over this uncommon situation. “It’s right in front of us!” she squeals with joy.

Soon, the ocean that was brightly lit up with the glow of the Jellies begins to fade away. They all start to submerge back down to the depths of the ocean to carry on their journey south. The last one to go was the Rare Green Jelly that hung out in front of us.

“We’ve all heard stories of the Green Jelly but none of us have actually seen it,” Haley explains to me as the event starts to die down. I watch as Jas and Vincent are hurried home to get to bed since it’s way past their bedtime.

“It's crazy how it was right in front of us,” I replied back, stifling a yawn.

“Someone's sleepy,” Haley says while pinching my cheek. “You sure you can make it back home without falling asleep? You could always come back to my place…?” Haley smirks while twisting back and forth.

“You draw a hard bargain. But I have chicks to tend to bright and early in the morning. I also have to gather millions of ripe crops in the morning due to someone clearing all of the seeds out from Pierre’s for my farm,” I snorted while nudging her shoulder.

“C’mon Dannnnyyy. Don’t make me beg,” she whines as she tilts her head at me, batting her eyelashes.

“Sorry, pretty lady. Duty calls,” I take her face into my hands and place a kiss on her forehead. I see her face turn pink in the faint light of the candles on the water. Everyone on the beach has cleared out now. It’s only her and I still standing around on the dock.

Next thing I know, I feel Haley’s arms grab my biceps firmly. I don’t fight it, but I’m unsure of what she is up to.

“Say hi to the Moonlight Jellies for me,” She gives me a devilish smile and then gives me a hard shove. It took all of her strength to uproot me and get me to fall into the water, but she somehow managed.

I feel myself fall for a few seconds, but the cold waters encase me soon after. I’m completely submerged in the ocean, trying to figure out what just happened. I paddle myself to the surface to give Haley a piece of my mind.

“Haley what the fuck?” I curse at her, somewhat playful but a tiny bit annoyed.

“Watch out,” she says, gesturing to me to move. Doing as she directs, I wade over to the right a bit to give her space. She takes her shoes and headband off and sets them aside. She lines up for a running start into the water, and takes off. When she reaches the end of the dock, she does a dainty little jump and plunges into the water with me. I turn my head away so I don’t get splashed in the face.

“Now we are going to be freezing,” I complained to her.

“Well we are going to be freezing together. You look like you give off good body heat,” she treads over to me and latches onto my side. She wraps her legs around my waist and allows me to hold her back.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I give her a little playful frown.

“This is what I mean.” She squeezes my bicep, referencing all the muscle I have.

“Fair point.”

“Are you suuure you can’t come back to my place?” She begs again.

“As long as I’m home before nightfall tomorrow. I have to feed my chickens, remember?” I cave.

“Mmhmm. You’ve got a deal,” she swings herself to my front, holding onto me with her arms around my neck.

“Can we go now…? I’m freezing,” I shyly say to her, not wanting to ruin her fantasies of me always being warm.

“Yeah I’m freezing too. I don’t know what I was thinking,” she shivers. Her teeth chatter together as she speaks.

The two of us swim back to shore and hurriedly rush over to Haley’s place. We keep our arms wrapped tightly around our bodies, trying to hold in heat and block the wind caused by our sprint.

That fucking ending! Great way to end the shindig. Little surprised it was Shane who broke the silence and not Sam, but Shane hasn't been seen much this fic so makes sense.

As per usual, keep up the great work!

Chapter 34

For some reason on my walk to the saloon, I saw nobody. There was nobody walking around, nobody doing yard work, nobody running errands. I know it is pretty late out, but people are usually still out and about. It’s giving me a really weird vibe.

Today is also the first day of fall! I had a lot of crops to clear out for the new season, but thankfully my project is still intact. I don’t know what I’m waiting for at this point… it’s really not a huge thing.

I kick a pebble from my path as I venture closer to the saloon. Still no sign of anyone. But as I get closer and closer to the building, I start to hear really…really… loud country music coming from inside. My curiosity is immediately in full gear, so I rush the rest of the way.

Bursting through the door of the Stardrop Saloon, I couldn’t even hear the bell over the sound of the jukebox at full blast. All the tables have been pushed aside creating what seems to be a dance floor. To my surprise, the dance floor was completely full with everyone dancing in rhythm to one another. Bodies were flying and twirling all around so quickly that I couldn’t keep up. What I really noticed was everyone changing partners every couple of minutes.

“A fucking hoe down?” I mumble in exasperation. I already had a tough time keeping up at the Flower Dance and that required no skill. This is another level for me.

People started noticing I was looming by the door and tried waving me over. First Gus, then Marnie, then Lewis, then what felt like the rest of the town. I had to wave off so many people in embarrassment.

I thought I was safe until Leah came swirling like a tornado my way. I couldn’t even object before she yanked my arm and tossed me into the mix of bodies on the dance floor. My arms connected with someone’s immediately and they swung me around to the beat of the music. When there was a pause in the dance, I could finally see who I landed with.

“Hey Danny,” Alex greeted me as we did a weird side step dance move while he held my hand up. I tried my very hardest to concentrate on his foot work so I could keep up.

“What’s all this about?” I question loudly over the sound of the hand claps echoing through the room.

“Not too sure to be honest. People kind of showed up and then Gus turned the jukebox up and it summoned the rest of the town in a weird, creepy way. It felt like being lured by a siren call,” Alex joked.

“How are you doing?” he twirls me around with his hand holding mine above my head. It’s really weird to be dancing with a dude, especially since we are both bulky, stone, statues.

“If you mean about Taylor and all that, I’m doing well. It’s going well. We might even officially put a label on our situation eventually,” we slide to the left a little awkwardly and my boot gets caught in a splitter on the floor board. I have to pry it away.

“That’s really good news. I’m glad to hear,” I give him a sincere smile and he gives me one in return.

“So you and Haley..? How is that going?” I see his eyebrows raise from the corner of my eye since the dance is everyone facing forwards in a line dance style now.

“It’s going better than great.” I feel my face heat up as I recap the previous night. Just as Haley suspected, I can tell Alex somehow figured out what happened because his face lit up as his jaw dropped. Just as he opened his mouth to say something, I was yanked away into someone else's arms.

“Look at you go! You are a natural!” Marnie sings as I spin her around. Somehow I fell right into the flow of the dance now. I’m not really thinking about it too much.

“It took some concentration at first, but I am slowly getting the hang of it,” I shrug.

“How are your chickens doing? Are you ready for some cows in a barn yet?” Marnie laughs. Once again, the clapping nearly drowns out our conversation.

“They’re growing so fast. I miss them as little chicks already. I’m nearly ready for some cows though. I can’t wait.”

“What are their names again? I have such a bad memory these days.”

I trip a little in the middle of the side step I was doing as I think of the names. On their own, they sound like normal chicken names… but together there is a bit of a pattern.

“Well… there is Coconut…Pinkie…Fruit Cup… and… Sunflower.”

“Oh those are such lovely names! I just know you take great care of those little rascals,” Marnie exclaims. “Time for another partner swap!”

Marnie must do this a lot, because a second after, I was pulled into the crowd by someone else for another round of the dance.

“Look at those hips move, girl!” Leah hollers as she holds my hips and starts rocking them back and forth a bit more than I was already doing.

“They ain’t even moving that much. You’re doing that,” I chuckle. I’m really working up a sweat at this point. This dancing is no joke.

“I bet Haley’s hips have been moving this much,” Leah pokes my side causing me to recoil, then lets go of my hips to line dance to the next part of the song.

“Maybe more,” a smirk forms on my lips and I give Leah a telling look. That causes her to clue in immediately. Just like Alex, she was also cut off by me getting pulled away before she could say anything.

“How have your injuries been? Have you been taking care of them? How is your head?” Harvey bombards me with questions right off the bat.

“No complaints yet…” I jokingly answered.

“What?”

“Never mind.”

“So you are doing good?” He asks again. We hesitate a moment in the dance as we kind of get confused about who twirls who around which ultimately ends with me twirling Harvey.

“I have been taking care of myself. Don’t worry, doctor,” I flash him a charming smile. Harvey’s face distorts into an unreadable expression, and his cheeks go slightly pink. It throws me off and makes me get flustered. I trip over my own foot for a second but quickly regain balance. I guess I just have that effect on people..?

“C’mere,” Elliot pulls me away from Harvey so I can now be his dance partner. I didn’t even realize it was time to switch already. Each dance sequence feels like it's getting quicker and quicker. But I think I’m just getting used to it.

“That was so weird. I think I just made Harvey blush?” I say with uncertainty.

“I don’t think you know how attractive you are. Don’t cut yourself short,” Elliot says firmly.

“Well I don’t know about THAT,” I roll my eyes as I click my heels and toes against the ground to the beat.

“You literally made Haley rethink her sexuality,” Elliot points out. We shimmy past one another with our knuckles placed on our hips. I tip my hat down at him as we pass by each other.

“See. Right there. You’re attractive whether you agree or not. I’m not into you, but I see how you got Haley’s panties in a twist-” Elliot's sentence gets cut short as Leah spins by us and whispers into his ear. He listens intently, but his eyes widen and both of them look my way directly after. Leah gets swung back away from us by her dance partner, Caroline. Elliot is left gawking like an idiot as everyone changes dance partners again.

My next dance partner turned out to be Pierre. He was a bit off beat and that caused me to be thrown off a bit.

“I don’t know why I keep trying to do these dances. I’m getting too old for this,” he sighs.

“What are you talking about? You’re still plenty young!” I nudge his shoulder, trying to get his spirits up.

“Caroline has so much energy and a free spirit. I wish I could keep up with her and her hobbies.”

“I’m sure you guys have some kind of things you do together?”

“Yeah I guess we do. I just feel like she doesn’t like me as much anymore.”

“Why don’t you get her a bouquet to let her know how much you still love her? I’m sure she’d love that.”

“Good idea, Danny. Haley is a lucky girl.” And with that he gives me a wink and the dance is already over for this partner rotation.

I try to make eye contact with someone in the crowd so I know where I’m getting dragged to next. All I can see is an ocean of dancing people, no one person is looking back at me. Suddenly I feel my arm get tugged into the next dance.

“You looked like a lost puppy,” Maru giggles as we start clapping.

“I feel like one. I just keep getting whipped around from person to person. I can’t keep up,” I huff as I wipe a drip of sweat from my forehead.

“It's nearly over. Just a few more partner swaps!”

“I bet it will feel like forever. I’m going to sleep good tonight though that’s for sure.”

“Well it’s already time to switch! Good luck out there!” Maru lets go of my hand and I’m washed back into the crowd.

Instead of being spun, swung, or twirled away by someone, I find myself line dancing beside good old, energetic Sam. He looks over at me when he notices I picked my pace up to match his. I see his eyes narrow and he starts getting more aggressive with his dancing. The beat starts picking up in the song, and the two of us start “dance battling” each other. We are the only two paying attention to our intense dancing. We even join hands at some point and act like we are actually dance partners, but really we were competing.

We keep that up for the entire round, not speaking to each other once. I did look away a few times to gaze around at everyone else having fun. I also notice Leah and Elliot whispering to people from our group here and there. They are such gossips.

Sam and I’s competition really took the last wind out of me. I’m starting to get absolutely pooped. Sam dances his way into the wave of bodies out of my sight, and I’m left dizzy, brain spinning in circles. I feel my body slowly start walking me off course, causing me to bump into someone.

“Oh my Yoba. Willy!?” I say as I crash into Willy’s open arms. He must’ve been expecting me to lose my senses and stumble around. I rarely get to talk to Willy. He likes to spend time out at the pier and in his store. I haven’t really been focused on fishing or anything lately so it’s been a while.

“Ahoy lass! How ye been?” His grumbly sounding voice and gruff appearance always makes people afraid of him. But he is one of the sweetest people I’ve met.

“Living the dream. How ‘bout you?” Willy twirls me around, more gracefully than anyone else had tonight.

“Still tryin’ to keep the fishing business running. Some may say I'm trying to keep it afloat!” he starts chuckling at his own pun. I joined in on the laughter as it was a good pun.

“You been having any luck in these local waters? You were a great angler there at the beginning,” Willy asks.

“I’ve been a bit... preoccupied,” I say sheepishly. “I promise I’ll try to get out there again soon.” I recognize the vibe in the air that means it is time to change partners. Willy and I tip our hats to one another and spin away.

This time, I’m dragged into a dance with Penny. Although, It was more like we bumped into each other and just went with it.

“Penny! Hi!” We grasp hands and hold them out to the side. My other hand is lightly holding her waist while hers is just kind of resting on my shoulder. We bounce to the music, sticking our feet out every which way, trying to keep in sync with everyone else.

“Hi Danny!” You are a great dancer!” she admired my footwork for a minute but then dance required us to spin next.

“Meh, this part is easy work. I get so lost when the line dance part comes up. I think I’ve tripped like three times during that bit.”

“It took me years to learn how to line dance. We haven’t even gotten to the fastest song yet. That’ll throw you off for sure. I still get lost during it,” she laughs.

“How is the teaching going? Are the rascals behaving for you?”

“Jas and Vincent are truly great kids. I love teaching them. Sometimes they are a handful but I can take it.”

“You are such a kind person for doing that for them. Everyone is so thankful for all that you do.”

“Awww thank you. It’s something I’m really interested in doing for the rest of my life. It would be nice working with pristine, good condition textbooks. The ones we have here are very rickety, old things. They basically fall apart in your hands.”

Before I could respond, I felt someone slide their hands up my arms, over my biceps, to my shoulders. Penny gives me a smirk as she can see who has walked up behind me. She gives me a slight nod and dances away.

The hands on my shoulders start twisting me around so that we are face to face.

“I know those hands anywhere,” I whisper to Haley. She had finally arrived at the saloon, making me have to suffer all this dancing by myself until now.

“I’m sure you do,” she seductively whispers back, wrapping her arms around my neck. I tuck mine in around her waist, holding her close. Suddenly the synchronized dancing doesn’t have my attention anymore.

Before we could even settle into a nice, slow dance pace, she flashes me a bright grin and picks up into the line dance choreography. I let out a sigh, but excitedly went to join her as her partner.

“Isn’t this fun!” she shouts over the loud music. We are holding hands, bobbing in and out as well as doing some fancy footwork.

“You’re just lucky I decided to join in with you. I’ve been dancing this for a really long time. I was starting to feel exhausted there before you came in.”

“You saved just enough energy for me?” She says as I twirl her around.

“Of course I did. I have to have at least one dance with the pretty misses,” her face reddens and she suddenly becomes shy. “What’s the matter, did I embarrass you?” I pinch her already red cheek, making her face go a shade darker.

“I’m just happy you saved a dance for me. I was hoping you did.”

“Of course! Who do you think I am?”

“Which, does anyone know about…” she waves a finger between her and I as we start line dancing again.

“Only like a few. I didn’t tell EVERYONE.”

We continue line dancing side by side, only really paying attention to what the other is doing. I sometimes take her hips from behind and dance behind her, but only once and a while. I can tell the end of the dance is coming up, so I take Haley and dip her to the ground. Just as I pull her back up, the song abruptly stops. The two of us are frozen, gazing into each other's eyes.

Everything is immediately snapped back into reality when we hear Shane shout from across the room.

“I WAS RIGHT!” He starts waving a stack of money our way, with our entire group standing behind him, staring at us. Some still had money in their hand, waiting to pass to Shane.

"I believe there will be one sunny day coming up"

Roll credits *cinema sins ding*

In all seriousness, another great chapter, can't wait to see the next one! Can't wait to see when this "sunny day" will be!

One Sunny Day

(Stardew Valley)(Haley x Female Farmer)

Chapter 40: Back to Danny's POV

Today is the day of the Stardew Valley Fair that I had to be so decisive for. Even with the whole town helping me out last week, it did not help. I still had to narrow down the items from 20 to 9. I swear the folks had picked out more than I had even considered to be running in the item picking session.

Vincent and Jas had gathered many eggs from the chicken coop, so I was going to pick one of those. Penny and Maru picked some flowers that were in season that I had growing on my farm, and everyone else had brought quite a wide variety of things.

"This shouldn't be that hard, Danny...Pick something!" I say to myself as my eyes scan over all of the fun, unique items. I have my hand resting on the table, holding my head up by my forehead. I have only an hour left to decide before I have to pack it up and carry it over, but it is just so difficult.

I look over to observe the items I have already picked out. So far, I have a chicken egg, a fairy rose, pale ale, a ruby, wine, and Haley's favorite she had picked out, a sunflower. Not just any sunflower though, it was the tallest one of the field. She told me it had to be the best one since it was the tallest, so of course I had to bring it to the fair for her.

"I only need three more ugghhhh." I bring my head down and smack my forehead against the edge of the table a few times to try to get my brain working.

I looked at the table one more time and decided to go with whatever my eyes landed on first. That turned out to be a crab that I caught.

"Fine. That works." I put the crab aside with the rest of my already picked items.

I also notice that my eyes keep getting drawn to the plate of pepper poppers that Shane had picked out. I decided to set the plate aside as I'm running out of time.

"One last thing..." I close my eyes and wave my hand over the table. I lower my hand to pick something but it goes straight to the bare table, so I try again. This time, it lands on an eggplant.

"How mature, Sam," I mumble to myself. I had not realized that it was even there until now. I have no awareness whatsoever apparently.

I hurriedly packed all the stuff up and beeline it over to the town square where the fair was going on. I heard this year was going to be way more exquisite and exciting than their previous years. Usually they just have a few tents set up for mini games and a fortune teller, but I heard they have enough in the budget for a Ferris wheel this time around.

Sure enough when I make my rushing entrance, my eyes are immediately drawn to said ferris wheel that's kind of just tossed wherever they had space (there is barely enough room for it).

"Danny! Glad you made it considering your whole event you put together to have people pick your items for you," Mayor Lewis says almost derogatory as he looms under the lamp post by the pathway. "There is an open booth for you to set your display up, let me know when you are ready and I will be over to start judging,"

"Alright, thanks," I say a little skeptically.

Making my way over to my display booth, I started setting up the items in the pattern I thought looked best. I was interrupted not long after by familiar arms, locking me in an embrace.

"Took you long enough to get here! I was looking all over for you," Haley exclaims, squeezing me tightly from behind. Turning around, I scoop her up and sit her down on the ledge of my booth. I'm standing between her legs with either hand placed on the ledge beside her thighs.

"I'd put you up for my display if I could. You are my prized possession after all," I whisper seductively to Haley, leaning closer to her face, hoping for a kiss. This causes her to blush from ear to ear, which drives me crazy.

"Ahem..." we hear coming from our left, causing our heads to turn. I quickly stand up straight and smooth out my shirt. "Are you almost set up, Danny? I'm just really looking forward to the judging and everything. Sorry to bother you," Pierre chimes over to me. I can't help but let a look of disgust fall over my face but I quickly shake it off.

"Yeah, I'm almost done. Sorry..." I call back to Pierre.

Leaning back over Haley, I whisper again to her, "does everyone have a stick up their ass today or something?"

My comment makes her chuckle, which makes Pierre look over too. We ignore him, going back to getting my booth ready. I let Haley keep sitting on the ledge while I worked around her. She makes a little remark about each item I had brought with me, but really starts talking about her sunflower I brought. She was very excited I had brought it and even took a picture with her camera she brought when I had my display all set up.

"I'm so glad I decided to bring this, I'm going to get so many good pictures of you!" she squeals.

We walk over to where Mayor Lewis continues to creep around the lamp post, letting him know I'm set for him to start judging. He just gives me a nod and follows me to the displays. There were two other booths set up besides Pierre's and I's. Marnie was set up right beside me, while Willy was at the end. They wished me good luck and I did the same to them. Pierre and I said nothing to each other.

Lewis starts strolls by the four of us, looking closely at our items. When the rest of the visitors of the fair realize what's happening, they make their way over to watch the judging happen. I realize there are a lot more people here than just us who live here. There are so many I don't recognize.

"There are more people here than last year by far." Haley whispers from beside me. "They must've heard about the ferris wheel."

"Do you want to go for a spin on the Ferris wheel after this?" I ask Haley.

"Why don't we wait until dark," she shot me a wink but then quickly realized how provocative that sounded and started frantically waving her hands. "I didn't mean it like that! I just mean that there might be something happening later that I heard about from Emily. We will get a good view from the top of the Ferris wheel."

"Are you sure you didn't mean it like that?" I tease.

"Weeelllll..." Haley taps her finger on her lip like she is thinking hard.

"If I may have your attention folks!" Mayor Lewis shouts, causing all eyes to be on him. "I have decided a winner!"

The crowd goes wild at this announcement. I see several fingers pointing at my display, mostly by the residents of Pelican Town who had helped me with my booth.

"Alright, alright everyone. I'm pleased to announce that Danny has won the display showcase this year! Good job Danny. Thank you all for participating again this year, and we hope to see you next year! Come see me to receive your prizes, participants."

"Get ready to go crazy on the fair games! I know first place wins a lot of star tokens which you use to play the games." Haley gestures with her hand to all of the tents set up.

"Well we better get started so I can crush you in every single one of these games." I swing my finger around to every tent. Haley just rolls her eyes at me.

                                                             🌻 🌻 🌻

"Can we quickly stop at the fortune teller before we go on the Ferris wheel? I've been meaning to go all afternoon, but then I got distracted by my hunger and then eating dinner," Haley begs just as we begin to walk by it.

"Of course we can."

"Danny? Haley? You are coming in aren't you?" The fortune teller says before we even step a foot closer. Haley and I freeze and look at each other with wide eyes. Hesitantly, I open the tent door and hold it open for Haley to enter before me.

"Wonderful! I'm glad you're here. Before we begin, 100 coins from each of you please." The fortune teller sticks her hand out to us, waiting for our coins. We dig into our pockets, pulling out the coins and counting them between the two of us. When we have the right amount, we pass them over and wait anxiously for our fortune.

"Firstly, Danny... you are going to have a very successful career in farming. Never give up even when you think you have hit a stressful time. The crops will always grow as you grow along with them." The fortune teller whimsically waves her fingers around a glass ball in front of her. I just look over at Haley with skeptical eyes and she shrugs.

"Haley... you have come a long way to where you are now. There is always a deeper meaning to life than what you see at the surface. It seems you are finding that out piece by piece. Keep on that path, and you will have a joyous life."

My eyes don't leave Haley even though she is focused on the fortune teller. Her face is contorted into a look of amusement and confusion over the words of the fortune lady. It is very rewarding to see this side of her that I'm sure very few have ever seen.

"One last thing, ladies..." the fortune teller begins, capturing our full attention now. "I believe there will be one sunny day coming up next summer... but it will be when you least expect it that's for sure. Don't count on the sun in the sky for a sunny day, but rather look to what's before you," the fortune teller says ominously, still wagging her fingers at the glass ball.

"Interesting..." is all I can utter. Haley just looks at me bewildered.

We make our way out of the tent, pondering what that could mean. A bunch of scenarios start running through my mind, but nothing seems to make sense. I can tell the gears in Haley's brain are working just as hard to think of what she could mean.

"I guess it'll be a surprise?" I mentioned to Haley on our walk to the Ferris wheel.

"I guess so," she says in a disappointed tone, seemingly upset over not knowing what our future holds.

I help Haley up onto the small, rickety seat of the cheap Ferris wheel. Everyone else at the fair has either left at this time, or has had their fill of the Ferris wheel for the day. This leaves only us on the ride. To make things even more cliche, Haley begged the bored ride attendant to stop us right at the top. He sighed and caved right away, not giving a care in the world.

"Woohoo!" she shouts as our seat begins to move. Involuntarily, I grip the singular metal bar that's strapping us in. My knuckles go pale from how hard I grab on for dear life. Haley on the other hand has her arms up in the air and head tipped back, soaking up the beautiful, autumn air. Her hair looks like a golden waterfall as it dangles from her head over the back of the seat. The wind causes it to wave and ripple around, making it look even more ethereal.

Just by looking at her, all my rickety Ferris wheel worries leave my mind. Haley must've sensed me calming down, because she brought one of her hands down to take my hand in hers. But just as I let go, our whole seat jolts to a stop. I hadn't even realized we were at the top already.

"If Emily didn't lie to me, we will only have to wait a few more minutes before-" Haley was cut off by a loud pop noise. Another one followed right after. Then another.

"Fireworks!" Haley grins at me, waiting for my reaction. Her face lit up from the brightness of the huge firework popping close by.

"You timed this so perfectly," I say while admiring the firework show in front of us. The sky is lit up by several different colors and patterns of fireworks. They ranged from all different sizes and patterns, even different noises.

Feeling confident to let go of the metal bar again, I slip my arm around Haley's shoulders and tuck her close to my side. She leans into me, getting comfortable.

"I'm so glad you moved here," Haley mumbles up to me.

"And I'm glad I decided to move here." I plant a gentle kiss on the top of her head, squeezing her closer to me. I can never get enough of her.

One Sunny Day

(Stardew Valley)(Haley x Female Farmer)

Chapter 41

🌻~THE NEXT SUMMER ~🌻

Eventually, all of the sunflowers had perished by the end of fall last year. I told Haley that just means we can look forward to replanting them this summer. She really took me up on that because just two weeks ago we had planted them all once again.

The sunflowers aren't quite as tall yet this season, but by fall they will be towering over our heads. They are currently still tall enough to make the little bench area secluded from the rest of the world, just the way Haley likes it.

This morning though, is anything but sunny. It's raining total buckets outside today which limits the things I can do today. But then I got an idea.

Running to the telephone in my room, I dial Haley's number.

"Darling! Hi!" her voice sings through the phone.

"Meet me in the sunflower field in an hour," is all I tell her.

"In this weather? Are you insane?" She questions me.

"Trust me," I breathe out, heart pounding in my chest.

"Hm. Okay then," she huffs.

"Make sure to wear something you consider nice. You'll thank me later." Without another word from her, I hung up the phone.

I quickly throw on my signature overalls, work boots and cowboy hat. I have on a light pink t-shirt underneath my overalls as an attempt to look nice. I tie my hair back to my favorite half up half down style. My hair has been making its way back to its original length now. At this point it just passed my shoulders in length.

Without an umbrella or any rain protection, I set out into the nasty weather without a second thought. I know what I am going to do.

Haley and I have been going strong since we established our feelings for one another. All of our previous fighting and sass was all due to us being head over heels with one another at first sight. Who would've guessed? The perfect, pretty, pristine, boy obsessed girl was really into the dingy, dirty, farm girl the whole time. The way the world works goes completely over my head. If you were to tell me I'd be in this position 2 years ago, I would've never believed you. I'm sure Haley would feel the same way. I am so obsessed with her and don't think I'll ever be able to live my life normally if she wasn't with me. Which is why I am going to do this.

"Ahhh Danny. I knew you'd be coming soon enough. I could feel it in the damp, musty, rainy air." The way this guy spoke was absolutely creeping me out. I had chills going down my body, causing my arms to have goosebumps.

"Five thousand coins please," he says before I can even say anything. Cringing over how expensive that is, I reach into my backpack and rifle around until I pull out five thousand coins.

"Wonderful. Here you go..." He holds his hand out to me, dropping something into the palm of my hand.

"Thank you...Old Mariner?" I say questioningly. Unsure if he likes to be addressed as that.

I take a minute to admire the misty ocean water ahead of us. The rain blocks any view of the far away horizon. The rough waters sway and crash about, threatening anyone who dares to enter them in these conditions. It is almost an eerie sight to see when looking out into the rainy abyss of the ocean. I see why this creepy Old Mariner likes to show up when it rains. Really adds to this guy's dumb performance.

I turn to face the Old Mariner one more time before heading out. Except he wasn't there. Confused, I whip my head in every direction looking for him. How did he get so far from the short amount of time I didn't face him? And where does he even go?

Still chilled to the bone over this unnerving experience, I turn on my heels and scurry away from the beach. After all, I have a pretty lady waiting for me back at the farm.

Before entering the sunflower field to wait for Haley, I had tossed my backpack inside so as to not kill the mood with it on. It's not really the most romantic article of clothing in the world, and I'm already pushing it with what I have on now. I also cleaned myself up quickly so I wasn't all muddy and damp. I will end up getting damp from the rain all over again once I go back out to meet Haley, but it won't be as bad. Knowing her, she will show up with an umbrella so she doesn't get her outfit all wet and gross. I don't know what she will do about her shoes though.

I push my way through the thick stems of the sunflower field so that I'm ready when Haley arrives. If she is right on time, I won't have to wait much longer. I tried to time it so that I'm not waiting outside for too long.

To my amusement, I begin to see a cute, little, blue umbrella bobbing its way over the top of all the sunflowers. Haley held it higher up so that it wouldn't get caught in all the leaves and stems of the sunflowers most likely.

"I'm here!" she joyfully bounces into the clearing of the field where I wait. My arms are twisted behind my back nervously, carefully hiding my hands as well.

"Hi here. I thought you were Haley?" I tease, causing her to nudge my shoulder playfully.

"Why did you ask me to come here? It better be worth it. I'm ruining my good shoes for this," she rolls her eyes but cracks a big smile knowing that whatever I asked her here for will be worth it.

"I think you look gorgeous," I mentioned. She really does look so pretty. She is wearing a baby blue sundress with a small pink bow in the middle of the chest area. She has pink pumps on that match the small bow as well. It looks like she was extra careful with those shoes on the way here because they are barely dirty. Her golden hair is, as always, draped over her shoulders, cascading in a way that doesn't cover her beautiful face.

"Emily helped me do my nails this morning for some reason. I didn't think they were that wrecked yet, but she insisted on redoing them when I mentioned where I was going today."

Hearing Haley say that causes me to sweat and grit my teeth. Does Haley know? How did Emily know? I didn't tell anyone, I just came up with the idea today! I mean I was thinking about it since the new year, but I had never told anyone.

"Emily did a wonderful job," I had taken her hand in mine, looking over her blue ombre nails.

"Now are you going to tell me why you asked me here!" she gleefully exclaims, clearly on her toes about whatever may happen.

"Ahem..." I clear my throat, suddenly feeling much more nervous and choked up. It's really happening. "Haley... I had woken up today on this gloomy, gloomy day with a thought in my head I just couldn't shake. On gloomy days like this, I heard there is a visitor that appears on the island that you may have heard of. Now when I saw the rain, something clicked in my head, so I went to pay that guy a visit. Haley, I don't want to spend any more gloomy, rainy days waking up alone. I don't want to spend ANY day waking up alone anymore. I want you by my side every second of every day. You are my reason for getting up in the morning and making this farm the way it is. You give me the motivation to keep this farm up and running and you give me a reason to stay here instead of going back to the city. If I hadn't met you, I would've chickened out and ran back to the city to live a life I definitely didn't want. The forces of the universe clearly wanted me to come here for a reason, and that reason was you. I love you Haley."

As I blurted out my on-the-spot speech, Haley's eyes had widened to the size of saucers once she realized what was happening. Her hand slowly makes its way up to cover her mouth in shock.

"Um..." I awkwardly try to bend down on one knee, but realize that may not be part of the tradition so I stand back up. Then I realize that is whatever I want for this moment, so then I lower myself back down to one knee. Haley begins to giggle over my uncertainty. I take my hands out from behind my back and present them in front of Haley, holding the Mermaid's Pendant. One hand holds the chain, while the other one has the pendant part displayed on the palm.

"My pretty lady. My beautiful, beautiful Haley... will you marry me?" My words ring out into the air for a moment. Neither of us grasping that this is really happening.

Haley nearly drops her umbrella as she starts jumping with joy. She squeals excitedly a few times before collapsing into me, bawling her eyes out. I catch her just before her knees touch the ground so she doesn't fall straight into the muddy grass. The rest of her body falls more into my chest.

"Yes! A thousand times yes! I love you too, Danny," she sobs, muffled by my chest. I move her hair back while she sobs away into me so I can clip the Mermaid Pendant around her neck. I gently lay my arms around her shoulders after to reciprocate her hug.

The sunflowers around us dance in the warm, summer breeze. It makes them look like they are cheering for us. I pull Haley tighter to me and give her a tight squeeze. I'm having a full celebration with plenty of cheering in my head.

"We have to go tell everyone! We have to tell Emily so she can start making our wedding outfits! Hopefully she can do it all in three days but-" Haley starts.

"THREE DAYS? THE WEDDING IS IN THREE DAYS?" I shout, startled about the wedding date being so soon.

"We get married quickly here in Pelican Town," she sheepishly smiles, a blush spreading across her face. "Is it too soon? Do you want to wait?"

"I'd marry you right now if I could. Three days is perfectly okay with me," I reassure her.

🌻 🌻 🌻

Those three days couldn't have gone by any slower. The two of us were raring to get married the second we got engaged. We could hardly keep our hands off each other either. We had started construction on my farmhouse to give her an area of her own for when she moves in, but in the process of building and decorating we had a few... celebration breaks. Like I said, we couldn't keep our hands off each other.

When the whole town found out we were engaged, they all started planning the wedding, Pelican Town style. Apparently it gets set up in the middle of town square like a lot of the other events they put on. They keep all of the outdated ceremony decorations stored away for every single wedding that is held here. It's hard to believe that Haley is okay with a wedding like this. She did add her own touches to it all though, but everything else she was happy with.

When we told Emily, she immediately started planning our outfits right away. She dragged us into her sewing room and started measurements. The two of them couldn't stop laughing at how much I didn't belong there with all the frilly clothes surrounding me. Emily was even going to put me in a dress for the wedding until I gave her a very very long, hard stare. When has she seen me in a dress? What made her think I'd want a dress? My dress denial made them laugh even harder. Emily, of course, respected my wishes and started designing me a suit instead. At least that's what I THOUGHT it was going to be.

When I showed up to get dressed for the wedding today, she pulled out the most outrageous outfit I've ever seen. Not in a bad way though, but in a way that I had never seen anything like it.

"White overalls? Are you kidding me?" I excitedly started laughing over how funny Emily is, taking them by the hanger from her hands.

"Haley knew you'd like it. She suggested it," Emily chuckles.

"Really? Haley suggested this? That girl surprises me more and more each day. Where is she anyway?"

"She went over to Evelyn's house to get ready. I'm going over as soon as you are done getting ready here. I figured you wouldn't take too long and she takes forever so it works out great." Emily pulls out a fancy white shirt to go under my white overalls. She also goes over to a shelf and grabs a pink flower.

"Since you aren't in a suit, you can put this flower in the front pocket of the overalls." Emily hands over the rest of my outfit and starts walking away to let me get ready.

"Thank you so much Emily. This is all so great. You've been a great friend and the best sister to Haley. We wouldn't be here without you," I call over to her before she walks out of the sewing room to her own room.

"Thank you, Danny. You make her so happy. You bring out a side of Haley we had never seen until you showed up. I can't thank you enough for being patient with her and letting her find her true self. I knew it was in there somewhere!" she laughs as she walks away.

Once I was all dressed in my wedding attire, Emily came right back to help straighten everything up and made sure it fits okay. She helped do my hair up nicely in the same way I always have it, but this time it looks better than when I do it. She smoothed back my hair to tie the top part into a ponytail, and brushed the hairs underneath so that they lay nicely down my back. She didn't let me wear my hat unfortunately as it would "ruin it". She said I could have it back after the ceremony. Haley had told Emily that she wants to be able to see my face in pictures. I guess I got away with wearing overalls to my wedding so I should be thankful for that.

I mosey my way out to the wedding area after getting dressed. That's where I see everyone else continuing to set up the last minute things for the big day. The one thing that catches my eye is that there are no chairs.

"Y'all don't sit or anything?" I asked the person closest to me which was Alex. He was in the midst of carrying a big flower pot.

"It's crazy isn't it? I always wondered that too," he replies. I watch as he looks me up and down quickly. "You look hot. Haley is gonna drool when she sees you."

"Why thank you. Sorry again for stealing your girl," I jokingly say.

"Oh please. You are everything I could never be. For one, a girl and two, into girls. I can't believe I never came out sooner. It would've saved Haley the headache I gave her. I feel terrible about everything I put her through and I hope she can forgive me one day. You really saved her from me. I'm glad you moved here and she took a liking to you. Anyways, congratulations on your big day. You two deserve it." He gives me a genuine smile and continues walking to wherever the big flower pot goes.

I wanted to help with all the rest of the setting up, but everyone kept saying no. All I could do was stand helplessly, watching everyone carrying decorations around. Leah and Elliot came over to chat with me and keep me busy too.

"See Leah. What did I tell you? They were meant to get married!" Elliot goofs.

"And I was the one who told them to go at their own pace. You wanted them to get married on the spot you wacko!" Leah responds to Elliot.

"Regardless, they made it this far and I see a bright future between the two of them. Lots of sex and lots of happiness. Cheers to that." That gets him a smack on the arm from Leah. I could see the laugh playing on her lips that she is trying so hard to hold in.

"I couldn't have asked for better friends when moving here. You guys have been such a help to me and made me feel comfortable moving in here. You accepted me as part of the town and I will forever be grateful," I sappily pour my heart out to them.

"We actually never accepted you, you just made that up in your head. I don't know where you got that from," Leah smirks and looks at Elliot. "Isn't that right Elliot?"

"Pfff yeah. We never liked you one bit. You are such a burden to us and should've never moved here. My Yoba, Danny." Elliot holds his palm out to me and turns his head away in disgust.

"Get in here you two," I take both of them into my arms and give them a big squeeze. They both return the hug by squeezing me back.

"It's been so great getting to know you Danny. Thank you for being our friend and putting up with us," Elliot says.

"You've been a lot of fun to tease and have fun with. You sure have a lot of patience," Leah adds. "I'm glad we met you."

"Looks like it's time!" Elliot excitedly informs me. He points at Mayor Lewis who is trying to wave me over to stand under the flower arch. Everyone else is standing in the audience, waiting for the big event to begin. I see Evelyn and Emily have weaved their way into the crowd which means Haley is fully ready and waiting.

Taking a deep breath, I take my place underneath the gorgeous archway decorated with pale pink flowers. I watch as every head in the crowd turns to look down the aisle. Jas and Vincent make their way towards me up the aisle, tossing flower petals as they go. I can't help but smile at how cute they are.

A moment later, everyone gasps. Haley appears at the end of the aisle staring back at me. She looks absolutely stunning. Her dress looks as if it came out of a fairytale. It has a big poofy skirt trimmed with the same light pink flowers as the one in my front pocket. The bodice hugs her body tightly, but loose enough to let her breathe comfortably. The straps of the dress are an off the shoulder design made out of tulle. Her hair was left down, but some front pieces were all tucked and braided to the back of her head with a few strands left out to frame her face. In her hands was the same style of bouquet I gave her when I wanted to show her I was romantically interested. Down to the same color ribbon I had tied around the stems.

My brain had gone completely blank. I was absolutely speechless and bursting with excitement. She slowly glides down the aisle, stirring up some flower petals from the ground as she moves. She looks absolutely magical.

She takes her stand next to me under the arch. The two of us looking into each other's eyes, forgetting everyone else exists. In the background, I hear Mayor Lewis begin speaking.

"When Danny first arrived in Pelican Town, no one knew if she'd fit in with our community... But from this day forward, Danny is going to be as much a part of this town as any of us!" The town folk start cheering at Lewis's declaration. Haley and I break our gaze as soon as we hear the last of his speech. "You may kiss!"

Without another thought, I sweep Haley into my arms like the world is ending and she is my only source of life. Her soft, glossed lips connect with mine instantly. The audience continues to cheer over our passionate, loving kiss. I would've kissed her longer if we weren't right in front of everyone, but eventually we broke apart. I take her hand in mine as we face the crowd. The wind picks up for a minute and it causes all of the flower petals to take to the air. I twirl Haley around to face me again and bring her back for another heart melting kiss.

"I get to be a farmer now, too!" she squeals, squeezing my hands in hers.

"And you are going to be the best wife anyone could ever ask for," I whisper as I tuck a piece of her hair behind her ear, daydreaming over the beautiful future we are going to have.

A shame that this story has ended, but it was beautiful while it lasted, thank you for writing this amazing story.

One Sunny Day

(Stardew Valley) (Haley x Female Farmer)

Epilogue

🌻 ~ One Year Later ~🌻

After living here in Pelican Town for over two years, I'm no stranger to this place anymore. I know all the ins and outs of how things roll here, and everyone knows who I am and what I'm like at this point, especially my wife, Haley. She knows me better than I know myself sometimes. She still surprises me sometimes like when she wakes up before me and waters all my plants, or feeds all of my animals for me. That Haley is not the same one I met two years ago, but to everyone's surprise, it sure is. Emily constantly wonders what I did to her or what kind of spell I put her under, but Haley has come to this conclusion on her own.

"Danny, darling, can you pick up some flour from Pierre's when you head over for your seeds?" Haley sings as she is bent over in the fridge, looking for a snack.

"Flour? Why flour? Do we not have enough? Why can't I just make it for you?" I fire out, all in one breath. Haley turns from the fridge, mid bite into a blueberry tart. She just stands there with her finger in the air telling me to wait, as she chews. I raise my eyebrow as I patiently wait for my answer.

"Cake," she mumbles as she chews.

"Cake?" I question.

"Yes."

"Why cake?"

Haley finally finishes her blueberry tart and takes a seat over on the couch, patting the cushion next to her to get me to sit. Without hesitation, I dash over to the couch and jump over the back, landing butt first on the cushion next to Haley. She takes one of my hands and starts tracing the lines on my palms, giving me goosebumps.

"Do you remember that day back at the Saloon? The day everyone was dancing and everything?" Haley begins.

"Haley, that happens often there. I think we've done that at least five times at the Saloon. You're gonna have to be a bit more specific," I reply, playing with a strand of her beautiful, golden hair.

"It was the first one you went to. The one where I cut in right at the end?"

"Oh. Yeah. I remember that. Why do you ask?"

"Well, just before I took over, you were dancing with Penny-"

"Oh my gosh. Haley are you JEALOUS? Over something from two years ago?!" I gasp teasingly. She gives me a playful smack on my hand but goes back to tracing my hand.

"No, I'm not jealous. It's just that...I remember what she was talking about and it has been bothering me ever since. I know, I know, it's been a long time since then but I finally have the perfect idea!" a small grin appears across her face as she recalls her plan.

"Love, you're gonna have to be more specific. A plan for what? What do you remember?"

"Penny was talking about her school books to you just as I walked up. She mentioned how they were in bad condition and falling apart in their hands. When I overheard that, it made me...upset. We don't have a school here in Pelican Town and Penny really took the young kids under her wing. These kids are getting a fantastic education thanks to her, but she deserves to have proper materials to work with. So I propose a Cake Walk! We just have to save up some money as a community and put it towards getting her new textbooks to work with!" Haley drops my hands and claps her hands together excitedly. She hops off the couch, pulling me up with her and starts tugging me around the edge of our rug.

"We just have to set up a really big mat with numbered squares on it and have the participants walk around to each of the squares. We also have to get a few people to bake cakes to enter as the prizes. That's why I was hoping to get flour right away so I can make my famous Pink Cake. Don't worry, I'm making you bring a chocolate cake so you can't get out of this one," she turns to accusingly wag her finger at me but proceeds to ramble on of her plan.

"Then whichever numbered square they land on when I blow a whistle..." Haley stops in her tracks, putting her hand out to stop me from walking any farther as well. "That's the numbered cake they receive!"

"Oh so does that mean I get your cake now then? Cause there are no numbers right now and I'm closest to you so..." I snake my arm around her waist, and slowly move my hand down to her butt. I wrap my other arm around her to grab a double handful, squeezing tightly with both hands.

"Well you kind of helped yourself there, no?" She teases.

"I couldn't help it," I guide her back down to the couch where she decides to sprawl out, stomach down, across the couch and me. I inch my fingers up the back of her shirt and start tracing my fingers along her spine.

"You realize I'm never going to get up now?" She hums.

"You are going to have to if you want to get this Cake Walk up and running," I respond as I unclip her bra- with one hand- so I have better access around her back.

"Now I'm really never going to leave."

"That's too bad because I have to. Up ya get," I immediately retract my hand and give her a couple light smacks on the butt. She whines and groans but reluctantly gets up.

"Remember when you asked me to get flour?" I tap my finger to her forehead. "I have to go before Pierre closes or else I'll be late getting my seeds as well. I want to plant them as soon as possible." I bend down to kiss her before heading out.

"I'll have dinner ready when you're back. I'm CRAVING an omelet right now. I also best start making the Cake Walk mat too so it's ready. I guess I also should call around to see if anyone wants to bake a cake to have as a prize too." Her face starts to drop as she realizes how much work she has cut out for herself.

I know she will feel accomplished as soon as she has it all established though. It will be totally worth it once she sees the look on Penny's face. I'm so proud of her for coming up with this plan and I know she will blow it out of the water.

"Anything else you may need before I head out?" I ask to make sure.

"I think I'm all set. Thank you though. See you soon!" She smiles at me as she makes her way to the kitchen as I walk out the door.

🌻 🌻 🌻

In two days time, Haley's Cake Walk was all set into motion. She had the mat with squares numbered up to 8 on it, she had participants, and she had 8 cakes. Well... soon to be 8. Haley and I are just about finished making ours. We wanted them to be nice and fresh for the winners today.

"Mine is done! Take yours from the oven and then come running once you've finished icing it. I have to make sure everything is set up," Haley had just finished placing the last little garnish on top of her Pink Cake. Me, on the other hand, is severely slacking on the cake making.

"I'll go as fast as I can. It won't look pretty though," I sigh as I start getting the icing set up.

"It's a good thing you're pretty. It makes up for the way the cake will look," Haley giggles as she places a lid on the cake tray. I roll my eyes her way but feel my cheeks heat up as I blush.

I begin icing the cake, trying to take my time to make it look neat, but I still rush a bit so I'm not late to my wife's special event. She would kill me if I showed up just over 5 minutes late, and I currently have about 15 minutes to icing this whole, triple tiered cake.

"I can do it," I breathe as I keep a steady pace with the icing knife, carefully spreading it around evenly on each of the three tiers.

In no time, I finished all of the icing and have already booked it out the door to town square, careful as to not topple the cake over as I speed walk.

I watch as Haley's face lights up as soon as she sees me rounding the corner. She immediately clears a place on the cake table for me to gently place down my amazing creation.

"It looks amazing, my dear!" She stretches up and plants a kiss on my cheek as a reward for a job well done.

"Let's get this show on the road everyone!" We chant to the crowd that's gathered for the event.

Jas, Vincent, Emily, Caroline, Marnie, Jodi, Pam, and Clint all take a square on the mat, ready to start. Haley blows the whistle and they begin walking clockwise around the square mat. Jas and Vincent seem very excited to be participating in this event, and it makes everyone smile as we watch them excitedly hopping into each numbered square.

"It was a really good turn out, huh?" Haley nudges me happily, admiring her work.

"You did a great job, love." Just as I begin to go in for a kiss, Marnie chimes in.

"Um...Haley? When do we stop? My legs are..." Marnie begins to pant as she continues to try to keep up with the rotation.

"Whoops! Forgot to blow the whistle!" Haley quickly puts the whistle to her lips and blows. Everyone freezes on the spot, and begins to look at the number they landed on. Haley begins to give out the designated cake prizes.

"Caroline, you get Mayor Lewis' cave carrot loaf, with extra fiber" Haley announces.

"Oh, joy" I hear her mumble.

"Emily, you get Pam's chocolate stout cupcakes with aged bourbon buttercream!" Haley announces again.

"You're in for a treat, kid," Pam chuckles to Emily.

"Jas... you get Clint's wild horseradish cobbler..." Haley's face goes a shade green as she could hardly get the sentence out of her mouth without gagging. The look on Jas' face is so heartbreaking.

"It's an old family recipe. I baked it right in the smelting oven. Oh and I might have burned the bottom a little... you may have to peel off a large amount of charred matter. But the rest should totally be edible!" Clint declares, causing everyone to have a disgusted look on their face.

"Next up is Vincent! We've got Robin's triple syrup n' cream strawberry log!" Haley holds up the next dish for everyone to see.

"Oh no..." Jodi's face goes pale. Vincent is already jumping up and down excitedly.

"Jodi, you get Emily's organic red velvet cake...colored with beets!" Haley says.

I hear Jodi reply with a soft "yum" from the mat.

"Last but not least...Pam! You are the lucky winner of my wife's deluxe chocolate cake!" Haley holds up my beautiful chocolate cake for everyone to see.

"Thanks, kid," Pam says to us. She nods her head my way as well as Haley's.

"Thanks everyone for joining in. We raised over 5000 coins!

"What's the money for anyway? You buyin' a new purse?" George scoffs from the sidelines.

"Actually... it's for Penny," Haley turns her attention towards a confused looking Penny.

"Penny, about two years ago I overheard you telling Danny about those school books you use for Jas and Vincent. It sounded like you could use some help and I couldn't think of the right thing to help until recently. I know I'm pretty late to this, but I hope you're okay with this?"

Penny's face lights up as she processes what Haley just said. "Did you hear that, kids? You're getting brand new school books!" she shouts, ecstatically. "I don't know what to say... Thank you so much to both of you!" Penny gives us both a big hug.

"Hey Lewis... since we're funding the education without touching the town's coffers, you'll be lowering our business tax, right?" Robin calls over to Mayor Lewis.

He starts looking around nervously at everyone, avoiding eye contact with Robin. I can see visible sweat drops fall from his forehead.

"We'll discuss that at a later date. I have...somewhere to be right now!" and with that he scurries off.

I swoop Haley into a big, celebratory hug, spinning us around a few times. Her feet come off the ground a bit from how far I pick her up.

"You did it! The Cake Walk was a success!" I exclaim.

"You helped, Danny. I couldn't have done it without you," Haley gushes.

"I hardly did anything. This was all you. It was such a thoughtful gesture, I love that you did this. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with such a kind and thoughtful person," I place little kisses all over her cheeks making her giggle and try to swat me away.

"You better be, because you are stuck with me Mrs. Danny," Haley swipes her finger down my nose and then tips my hat over my eyes.

"I love you, Haley."

"I love you, Danny."
