a little life
never heard of | never read | want to read | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite
So far my only five star read this year. This book absolutely shattered me in the way I crave from literature, though seldom get the pleasure of experiencing. I think I read the latter half (roughly the last 400/500 pages) in one evening because I refused to stop. In hindsight, it would've been more impactful to spread it out.
I could go on hours about this book for a variety of reasons, though the primary one definitely being the closeness I share with Judge. It's something that was quite confrontational while reading, though it's also helped me see how I've developed as a person in ways you yourself don't notice as the days pass by.
I feel like, to summarize what could become a dissertation, that in essence the book succeeded at being a fairy tale in the way Hanya Yanagihara describes herself but also in a bit of a more abstract way. I found a little life to be a perfect mix of life as we imagine it, would like to imagine it, and life as we live it. There's this mix of fantastical and idealized aspects (all of them have succesful careers, life lasting friendships, parental figures adopting a main character etc.) but there's also a lot of realistic aspects (poverty, constant dissatisfaction without knowing why, jealousy, trauma etc.) and it makes for a compelling beautiful albeit painful story.
I already want to re-read it.
Send me a book and I'll rate it
The Business Killer
Okay, TJLCers, I can no longer remain a lurker. This shit is getting too damn real, and I have to share my thoughts on this new trailer. So, we know from setlock that Toby Jones's character is known as The Business Killer on what appears to be an Apprentice type television show. My first thoughts after seeing Sherlock, John, and Mycroft in that strange room together were "Mind Palace", but then upon further viewing, I reconsidered. I think Smith has placed the three in the room together so that they can act out a twisted version of his reality show just for him. Hear me out, now. I can't say exactly why he would do this other than speculating that the trio had some sort of plan to take Smith down, but it failed pretty spectacularly. Now, he has the opportunity to do whatever he likes with them, and he chooses to hurt them by making them hurt each other. If they want to get out alive, they have to play his game. Mycroft of course immediately protests because, honestly, the ridiculousness of it all! "Is this suppose to be a game?" In that shot of Smith delivering the line, "Tell them your darkest secret." he's speaking to them inside that room. More specifically, he's speaking to Sherlock. "Tell them your darkest secret, and I'll let them live." Sherlock is grabbing his head in that panicked way he does a la TGG/Reichenbach because he wants to find a way out of this that doesn't involve any of them actually giving in to this creep, but there isn't another way. They have to play, so he does. "I love you." Some other nagging thoughts: The gun seems to be being passed back and forth under the direction of a large, unknown man. Perhaps whomever is holding the gun has to answer Smith's question or do whatever he tells them. Some sick version of truth or dare, maybe? I'm not sure exactly how the gun would come into play, though. I'm sure it's pretty effed up, whatever it is. Also, I think Sherlock is staring into a two way mirror, knowing Smith is on the other side taunting him. Okay, that's enough of me for now. What do you guys think? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Sorry I have no visuals to make this a bit clearer.

Kay but what if when Odysseus sees Poleteis (or however the Hades you spell that man's name) he's in the Elysium fields where shades just sort of, stand. Forever. Lifeless and devoid of emotion and a sense of self and everything that made his brother who he is.
Just, Odysseus realizing that even in death his best friend is gone.
Strange given your title.
All wonderful points , and I love them.
Adding one prospect here , which is being younger or in 20s and watching women in 30s , 40s , 50s , 60s , 70s enjoying themselves is a fucking blessing. It is a sign that despite what media constantly tries to potray , my life won't be over by 25 and dusted before 30.
Age , unless it's below the required line is not , should not be a problem. Written work is timeless and it'll not make me cringe or angry that fics I wrote are in fact crafted by women who are older than me. Contray to popular belief , life is not saturated/boring / over just because you're married / with a stable job / with a child or just old.
I’m sorry but...ur telling me there’s actually people aged 30+ on here reading fanfic ... with whole families ..
I assume this is sarcasm lol

Like fuck that, that's not very sibling of you. That's not very decent being of you. What the fuck go apologise and then take the cactus that's apparently in your ass out and fucking eat it. Yes.
Not only have I mentioned nothing of Hamas, There is additionally the issue of the utilization of unverifiable and unidentified "evidence" that can easily be doctored and passed as legitimate for the purposes of a narrative.
If you can not prove to me the legitimacy of your evidence, you should not be showing it to me at all. Similarly I have been sent racist caricatures by political cartoonists. And utilizing the word of one man to justify the killing of thousands is morally reprehensible regardless.
Palestinian children deserve to live.
Ah nah man my dog is feral or something
Bra Comfort Poll
All my bra-wearing homies argue constantly over whether bras comfortable and wonderful or if they're manufactured by hell to make us suffer. I've long suspected that there is a correlation between this opinion and cup size... but let's get the data to see if that hypothesis holds up!
Please reblog for more data! This question has plagued me literally for years, plz plz I need to hear everyone's experience and feel less alone because bra struggles are so real.
For people who don’t have time to bathe or access to fresh water, a South African college student has a solution: a shower gel users simply rub onto their skin. One small packet replaces one bath, and users never need any water. Ludwick Marishane’s inspiration was a lazy friend, but his invention will be a boon to people who live in areas where clean water is in short supply.
The gel, called Drybath, kills germs, moisturizes the skin and exudes a pleasant, light smell, unlike hand sanitizers, according to Marishane’s website, Headboy Industries. [Continue reading.]
