I don't know if I'm about to cry or freak out like a little kid about to get their top gift on Christmas. I'm so excited but scared cause I finally get to see the characters I grew up with since I was 6, come to life.
ITS BEEN 12 YEARS SINCE THE FIRST BOOK WAS RELEASED!
not exactly but still, that's a long fricking time broski.
I'm in a state of pure excitement added with the dread of realizing that I'm about to not be a child. It's not going to stop me from watching the show like it's my lifeline.
Yeah I won't be this stable when the Percy Jackson episode is released. Naw my eyes will be red from all my crying.
This is why I absolutely fucking love Rick Riordan. Uncle Rick to us all!
Rick Riordan’s response to the racism and hatred directed at Leah after she was cast as Annabeth:
“Leah Jeffries is Annabeth Chase”
“This post is specifically for those who have a problem with the casting of Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase. It’s a shame such posts need to be written, but they do. First, let me be clear I am speaking here only for myself. These thoughts are mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect or represent the opinions of any part of Disney, the TV show, the production team, or the Jeffries family.
The response to the casting of Leah has been overwhelmingly positive and joyous, as it should be. Leah brings so much energy and enthusiasm to this role, so much of Annabeth’s strength. She will be a role model for new generations of girls who will see in her the kind hero they want to be.
If you have a problem with this casting, however, take it up with me. You have no one else to blame. Whatever else you take from this post, we should be able to agree that bullying and harassing a child online is inexcusably wrong. As strong as Leah is, as much as we have discussed the potential for this kind of reaction and the intense pressure this role will bring, the negative comments she has received online are out of line. They need to stop. Now.
I was quite clear a year ago, when we announced our first open casting, that we would be following Disney’s company policy on nondiscrimination: We are committed to diverse, inclusive casting. For every role, please submit qualified performers, without regard to disability, gender, race and ethnicity, age, color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other basis prohibited by law. We did that. The casting process was long, intense, massive and exhaustive.
I have been clear, as the author, that I was looking for the best actors to inhabit and bring to life the personalities of these characters, and that physical appearance was secondary for me. We did that. We took a year to do this process thoroughly and find the best of the best. This trio is the best. Leah Jeffries is Annabeth Chase.
Some of you have apparently felt offended or exasperated when your objections are called out online as racist. “But I am not racist,” you say. “It is not racist to want an actor who is accurate to the book’s description of the character!”
Let’s examine that statement.
You are upset/disappointed/frustrated/angry because a Black actor has been cast to play a character who was described as white in the books. “She doesn’t look the way I always imagined.”
You either are not aware, or have dismissed, Leah’s years of hard work honing her craft, her talent, her tenacity, her focus, her screen presence. You refuse to believe her selection could have been based on merit. Without having seen her play the part, you have pre-judged her (pre + judge = prejudice) and decided she must have been hired simply to fill a quota or tick a diversity box. And by the way, these criticisms have come from across the political spectrum, right and left.
You have decided that I couldn’t possibly mean what I have always said: That the true nature of the character lies in their personality. You feel I must have been coerced, brainwashed, bribed, threatened, whatever, or I as a white male author never would have chosen a Black actor for the part of this canonically white girl.
You refuse to believe me, the guy who wrote the books and created these characters, when I say that these actors are perfect for the roles because of the talent they bring and the way they used their auditions to expand, improve and electrify the lines they were given. Once you see Leah as Annabeth, she will become exactly the way you imagine Annabeth, assuming you give her that chance, but you refuse to credit that this may be true.
You are judging her appropriateness for this role solely and exclusively on how she looks. She is a Black girl playing someone who was described in the books as white.
Friends, that is racism.
And before you resort to the old kneejerk reaction — “I am not racist!” — let’s examine that statement too.
If I may quote from an excellent recent article in the Boston Globe about Dr. Khama Ennis, who created a program on implicit bias for the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Medicine in Boston: “To say a person doesn’t have bias is to say that person isn’t human. It’s how we navigate the world … based on what we’re taught and our own personal histories.”
Racism/colorism isn’t something we have or don’t have. I have it. You have it. We all do. And not just white people like me. All people. It’s either something we recognize and try to work on, or it’s something we deny. Saying “I am not racist!” is simply declaring that you deny your own biases and refuse to work on them.
The core message of Percy Jackson has always been that difference is strength. There is power in plurality. The things that distinguish us from one another are often our marks of individual greatness. You should never judge someone by how well they fit your preconceived notions. That neurodivergent kid who has failed out of six schools, for instance, may well be the son of Poseidon. Anyone can be a hero.
If you don’t get that, if you’re still upset about the casting of this marvelous trio, then it doesn’t matter how many times you have read the books. You didn’t learn anything from them.
Watch the show or don’t. That’s your call. But this will be an adaptation that I am proud of, and which fully honors the spirit of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, taking the bedtime story I told my son twenty years ago to make him feel better about being neurodivergent, and improving on it so that kids all over the world can continue to see themselves as heroes at Camp Half-Blood.”

Percy Jackson and The Olympians | Official Trailer | Disney+
Watching the Percy Jackson series and being constantly like
For some reason, I've always(while reading the books) felt like at that time he believed that maybe, just maybe, Annabeth would join him. Because she hated Athena and he thought it was a similar feeling that caused her to feel abandoned. Yes, he was right, but Annabeth had the strength to follow her morals, and he didn't realize there was a way to keep your morals close to you no matter what happened.
And the strength and power she held close to not become like Luke was her found family. Percy and Grover were the two people that stuck with her through thick and thin and she couldn't bear the thought of betraying them to destroy the person that festered her hate. Because, to Annabeth, if you hate someone who has hurt you, leaving the people who love and protect you is a way of letting your enemy win. And the hate Annabeth held for Athena wouldn't let her do that.
Either way Luke should definitely kill Hamilton Hermes.
do you guys think this is the moment luke realized he lost his little sister
Poseidon would not leave Sally behind if he looked into her eyes. Just once would be enough to make him stay
I don't think he would be able to bare how she looked at him still with love in her eyes. Like she didn't hate him. Gods how he secretly wish she did. It would make this easier.

im just going to reblog this real quick
I'm just gonna.... Leave these here....
Also, their caption
exactly also luke looks nothing alike to book! luke
also yea the movies had their good moments (don't walk on my roof) but they are shitty and people are calling them masterpieces now??
The stupidity OF SOME PEOPLE is beyond my thinking.
Tf you mean walker isn't the perfect percy.. LOOK AT THAT GUY
And Annabeth doesn't have blonde hair...SRS ITS NOT ABOUT THE HAIR COLOR YOU HAVE PROBLEM WITH just admit your racist its not okay
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOIOOOOOOO I HAD THE WORST DAY BEFORE AND THEN I GET THESE GOOD NEWS
What I'm most curious about is how they handle Annabeth's insecurities as a "dumb blonde" or if it will be edited to basic doubt in her abilities as a girl? I can't wait to see a more accurate portrayal of the character growth and arcs, even if some are handled differently with modern-day sensitivities in mind.
I'm certain this actor is going to be amazing portraying Annabeth's core character, no matter what she looks like. Rick knows his characters best, and if there's a conflict from the original into the new form, I trust him to handle it better than anyone else.

well that was a rollercoaster and a half.
a completely predictable rolllercoaster, mind, but still a rollercoaster i'm going to need approximately 3-5 business days to recover from.
The First Snow
pairing: luke castellan x gn!reader
w.c: 1k (got a tad carried away, oh well)
content: fluff?, gn!reader, reader is a little… dumb(?), not in camp... or canon tbh, it snowed !, established relationship, there's like... two swear words, readers favorite color is green because that's my favorite color (duh)
warning: not edited, i was writing it literally right before i went to bed so if something doesn't make sense... ignore it <3 I also got the idea for this from a prompt generator, so 🤷🏻♀️
For the past couple of days you have been wanting to go to your boyfriend’s home, but it’s been snowing. And it’s been a little while since the two of you had last seen each other, since you’re too busy with school work and your jobs. So, when you finally got a proper day off, you jumped at the opportunity to visit and relax with your lover.
Now, instead of walking to the front door and being a normal person, you decided to have a little fun with all the good packing snow around you. You had made a small snowball and thought it’d be a good way to get your boyfriend’s attention if you threw it at his bedroom window. You giggle to yourself at the thought of his confused face after you throw it and it makes a loud ‘thud!’ on the glass. You take a second to compose yourself before aiming and… there’s no thud. No indication of the snowball hitting anything for that matter. You look down at your hand and find it empty before turning back to look at the window where your snow-covered boyfriend, Luke, is now staring at you with a blank face, “What… Is wrong with you?”
“Ah! Sorry, I didn’t think your window was open! It was supposed to be this cute thing, I was gonna throw the snowball at your window and supri-” You’re cut off by him laughing. He was laughing? Your brows furrow together as you move closer to the window, to him, and notice the lack of screen. Then you notice the rest of his room, it’s cozy looking with all the decor and dark, navy blue sheets and blankets on his bed. “You… You’re not mad, right?”
“No sweetheart, I’m not mad,” He shakes his head and helps you in through the window before closing it for good. His curly, brunette hair sags and drips a bit from the now melted snow, “I just can’t believe you thought it’d be a good idea to throw that instead of tapping on the window or knocking on the front door,” there’s a hint of amusement in his voice as he takes a seat back on his bed, binders and books sprawled on the blue sheets, some wet from the snow and others untouched completely.
“HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW YOU HAD IT OPEN WITH NO SCREEN?”
“You could’ve actually looked?” He responds with a cheeky grin gracing his features.
“Oh whatever, Castellan,” You roll your eyes and plop down on his bed beside him. Your eyes scan his room, taking in your surroundings. As you look around you notice a familiar bracelet sitting on his semi-cluttered desk, “Is that the friendship bracelet I made you… when was that? 3 years ago?” You take notice of the way his cheeks flush and he hesitates to answer your question. You shake your head in response as you work to move his books and papers off his bed, “Look, I don’t care that you kept it, but gods it hurts my eyes to look at.”
“Are you calling your own handiwork an eyesore?”
“Yes! Because it is!”
“Nuh uh.”
“Did you just say nuh uh?” You shake your head at him as you set his stuff down on his desk, swiping the bracelet in the process. You move back over to his bed and reach for his hand, gently sliding the piece of crappy handmade jewelry onto his wrist, “If I wear mine 24/7, you have to wear yours all the time too.”
His face contorts to a look of confusion as his eyes move from your face to your wrist where he sees the matching bracelet to the one you placed on him, “You… You actually wear yours?”
“Well yeah! Why wouldn’t I?” You tilt your head in confusion.
“Well I just thought that…” His voice trails off as he fails to find the right words. You look at him expectantly as your hands motion for him to ‘spit it out.’ Luke lets out a soft sigh before shaking his head, his brown curls bouncing with the motion, “I don’t know. I didn’t think you’d keep it.”
“Luke, honey, we’ve been dating for what… a year now? Do you seriously not know me that well? What’s my favorite color?”
“Isn’t it forest green?”
You smile at him and press a soft, chaste kiss to his cheek, “Okay, I guess you can have a pass this time.”
“Oh yay. How lucky of me! I looooove freebies,” Luke rolls his eyes, the sassy man apocalypse got this one too… You shake your head at him and sigh while ruffling his hair with a smile. And that’s how the two of you decide to spend the rest of the day. Bickering, throwing sass, and making the smallest things out to be bigger than they are because that’s just how you two are.
Hours later, the sun was starting to set, making the sky explode in beautiful shades of pinks and oranges. “You still never explained why your window doesn’t have a screen in it, or why it was open. I mean do you seriously need your window open when it’s 5 degrees outside?” You ask as you look up at him from your spot in his arms. The warmth of the blankets and his body wrapped around yours are enough to lull you to sleep but you fight it back, forcing your eyes open. Luke’s chest rumbles as he laughs softly in response to your question. “Let’s just say a little birdy told me you’d try to come over today,”
“So you’re telling me you took the screen out of your window and left it open for gods know how long because a quote unquote little birdy told you I was coming?”
“That’s what I said, yeah.”
“Sometimes I wish you could just tell me the truth!”
“I AM telling the truth,” Luke huffs and sits up, the blankets around you moving with him as he disentangles from you. You sit up too, following the warmth of his body in a desperate need for it to be wrapped around you once again. “You just don’t want to listen to me because I sassed you one too many times.”
“You wish!”
“Oh so now you want a sass off, is that it?”

the struggle to find the right outfit for the bonfire tonight is a lot bigger than you thought it would be. the decision to wear a navy blue baby tee with baby blue stars on it was a no brainer, thanks to clarisse’s help, but you had struggled so hard to find the perfect bottoms and accessories. when that did finally come to you, there was barely any time left to have a moment to relax before the bonfire started. so you went off to the large fire pit and placed a blanket down for you to relax on.
as you busy yourself with enjoying the feel of the warmth of the fire and your eyes are preoccupied with the stars that hang in the sky, the blanket rustles and a dirty blonde haired boy sits himself next to you, “hello love.” oh gods, it’s him. your face flushes already and he’s only said two words.
“hi callum,” is all you could muster out, feeling yourself grow butterflies in your stomach.
the apollo demi-god gently grabs hold of your chin, bringing your face back down from its look at the sky. his light green eyes stare into yours as he smiles at you. gods, his smile is gorgeous. it's like aphrodite herself sculpted him. “you’re the only one with a blanket out here,” he whispers, not wanting to disturb the peace too much even though other campers around you are talking amongst themselves.
you look around and almost frown at the realization that he’s right, “well, maybe… i can start a new trend.”
“yeah? let me know how that goes,” he teases, “maybe we can put the blanket to good use later.” what was that supposed to mean? you shake your head and decide to not question him further. the two of you sit together on your soft blanket as the other apollo kids lead the bonfire.
sometime during the fire, you and the blonde boy had snuck off to a secluded area of the camp, to just talk. and well… that’s not how it’s going now. right now, the both of you have your lips locked together and your hands running underneath each other's shirts, touching the warm skin of each other's body.
this would be a cute moment. it’s your first kiss, your first time making out with a person. it’s in the most gorgeous clearing in the forest, sat atop your soft blanket, the stars are shining bright, everything feels perfect. however, in the shadows of the tree line surrounding the clearing, there’s a certain curly headed brunette boy running away from his hidden spot and back towards the camp with his phone gripped tightly in his hand.
