Finally - Ifey (species O.)
This is the first stage (not counting a possible larva) in O's life cycle. These are the "gatherers" of their colony which is usually a villiage with one adult O (the parent of the colony). Cities can sometimes have more than one adult.
Ifeys are the lowest ranking members of their society and are expected to do most of the work (farming, building, hunting..). After that are Ee, who take roles in politics, sciece and comanding Ifey. O are the last stage which is sexually mature but only 2% of O.s reach that stage. O mostly do the population managment. (Ifey can do other tasks but for that it's better to move societies).
For their 'humanoid form' - O. are one of the first sentient species who did evolve to use their limbs in more formations but with the rise of Elven race Uniima weren't the only ones pushed into more human forms. In case of O.s, most changes were in their culture.
The O. culture is about "being human". From birth, human form is pushed as the beauty standart (different for O (final stage)). For Ifey to be seen looking non-human by non-Ifey is shamefull. They usually feel more comfortable looking natural with non-humanoids.
Question for the Uniima, how do they deal with the problem of not waiting for food to cool down?
They are kinda lucky they use wood for plates most of the time which doesn't heat up as much as other materials.
The inside of their mouth is also very sensitive (the tongue hands are a bit more numb with how much they use it), with our hands we don't feel the air around the food since we hold it away from our body but when uniima c hold something they have their body (mouth) around it, making it easy to feel the heat and hard to get burnt. (Unless they aren't paying attention and have to go put their tongue hand under some cold water. Burns do suck a lot.
Helpful guide
I'm really sorry for not responding earlier. I wanted to draw something to the answer but I just couldn't come up with what to draw and adhd-ly forgot about it.
Today is doodle day
A little wip comic with Neal and his first ever Uniima c student. They have important questions for him.
The creator of the first metal airplane. They have big dreams for the future but maybe little too ambitious. (they use their hands for many gestures since they work big part with humans for years)
some random classical fantasy dragon

The true main character of "The story"
As usual, it's Prof. Neal Faulkner.
Since the setting is closer to medieval times than to 20th century it's not common to have a last name and to be a professor is like being a 'king of a field (science or other)'. Faulkner being the younger but more known professor of Sonomagics and Acoustics (out of two). All professors get their title from the current elven king after being nominated by their professor tutor. These tutors pick their disciples and they have the whole continent to pick.
Mr. Faulkner is not only very natural in his field but has had a giant impact on the science world thanks to his help discovering atoms or his own work 'medical use of sound' among others. Sadly it's been many years since his last breakthrough.
In his opinion non of these are really useful anyway without the technology to use all this knowledge /Steam engines are still in their experimental phase but this world will likely start with electricity much much sooner than us/.
Most of Faulkner's work consists of teaching noble heirs how to be annoyingly loud with sound manipulation, mostly unsuccessfuly.
Size comparison
I'm trying to make the magic much more about physic than other stuff so hopefully it wont get boring. Just need to research a lot more.
Why is Prof Faulkner's… head crest(?) far shorter compared to those of other Uniimas?
He doesn't know if it's a birth defect or a very early injury but it's one of those.
The crest is two horn bones fused together at the top, inside is the Uniima's vocal organ and the sound comes from the 4 holes at the front.
His crest is not really shorter, it's kinda just not there, making him physically mute. He can push air from his nostrils but it's no speech. It limits him in few other ways but he's doing fine.
(he also lacks all of his claws but those are definitely injury)
Sorry for using your question to infodump. Enjoy my not-refined-enough anatomy lesson.
-Outdated words +designs-
I think this is something of a first part of the "magic system" series of guides.
I will be talking more about what it means to be "physically more aware" and manipulate physics and I might borrow Neal for it.
Now, imagine you are a device connected to a supercomputer that can alter reality. You need to be set up to receive its signal but when you are set, you can alter some of it too (while being under its control a little I guess but who cares). To be clear the 'computer' isn't sentient and just follows programming.
For the context of "gods" here's a link to another post
Also, I decided to name the designers with shapes because they are easily understood by any culture. Hope you like △, you will probably see it a bit.
Ignore bad English and skulls I drew for no reason with little thought in them. "Pigeons" are an invasive species of hexapods by the way.
Art for the second winner of the art raffle, @spiffyspidr. This one was the 'design' slot.
A pterosaur-ish echolocating critter. A very cool idea. Again, thank you for participating.

A small family
The two younger siblings still mostly eat "crop milk" from their parents but are already running around like the wild creatures they are.
Baby uniimas can walk and run a few days after hatching when their eyes are fully grown. Climbing needs a lot more practice so it's better to let them try climbing the parents before anything else.
Both parents take turns and will often compete a lot for their kids' affection (lovingly). Being the less-liked parent is a pain but to feed them you still have to work.
On average, there are two eggs per clutch with a pretty good survival chance for at least one.

Thinking about mostly og (non-humanoid) O. architecture. Tho gotabic (and similar) style is even more popular in humanoid O. regions.
In cities, everything is overly big for practicality or the opposite of practicality. The wall is a home for thousands of Ifey while also being a defense structure. While the hub is a home for a single O with no other functions. (well that says more about the society). The trend of making them very tall came from their popular use as beacons.
Cities have a building for almost everything while towns use a building for multiple functions (the simple ifey town house also works as a small water collector and storage.
On average, the bigger the population, the larger everything is.

Finally finished a pic of Fueem in their warm study/traveling outfit. They are a fancy one, who can afford quality bright clothing with their own symbols (however I need to figure those out before they are canon).
They have a single-piece dress/pants with a red 'suit' on top. When cold they will wear a bit more under that. There's also a leather backpack. These are ground clothes (better don't climb trees with them).
They also have gloves/socks but you are not supposed to notice those as they are uncool for a uniima c to wear.
Their tail is fashionably cut to be as little messy as possible but the 'feather fibers' are already growing back at the top.
(Fueem is one of the story characters and a student of Prof. Faulkner, they are the same student from that one comic).
Hey there, these are concepts for Molestars (Starmoles?) - well for now)
Another species of the 4th major designer. At the moment they are not in contact with the other races since their bridge (landmass connecting the continents of sophonts) didn't finish forming and might never do.
But as amphibious creatures I'm sure they can get a boat up once they feel like discovering the rest of the world.
They live on buch of islands with smaller numbers than other races and are also pretty conservative, they might react pretty badly to discovering same-planet aliens.
It's Merilin the human Ifey, yey!
Merilin, one of Prof. Faulkner most recent students who mostly wants to learn sound amplification. That is because great things are expected from her.
Just like many of the other humans studying under Faulkner, she's something of a noble, which is very uncommon for any ifey, who are often treated as disposable by their colonies.
Her real name is long code describing her position in society, time of birth, family, number of her family Ifey at her birth etc., but she got to pick a nickname. That is partially because her family (a small colony) is pretty supportive of all their members, partially because her family is a protected political entity and partially because she was born by her "queen" on a political visit to the slomam/elven territories. Being born on such occasion made her assumed to become an O with a great future and a great colony of her own.
She's very evergetic aaand naive but even with her inaccurate view of the world, she wants to be a good person and leader, helping people she sees as below her. While it's nice of her, she very often misses the point of a problem and her help becomes more of an annoyance.
(posting on right account now)
Realized I don't need complete perfection to post something so I finally finished the big boi wyvern! They are going extinct pretty fast but hopefully won't end up like the previous "largest wyverns"!
They don't have a very good reputation with the locals. They are definitely thought of as majestic but most people would rather kill a danger than enjoy it from afar. Even more when they can wear it later.
Yea
Here is my current redesign of Uniima LL because they really needed it with the world changes.
For anyone who doesn't know Uniima LL are very closely related to Uniima C. They are an evolutionary branch that traveled to the lower deserts of Foru where they experienced welm... changes.
Just like Uniima C, their eyes are immovable and to focus they turn their heads (around 200°). Their expressions are also much like Uniima C (not the expression language but the system), with them moving their face markings in specific ways. This will sometimes lift other muscles with the markings, making them appear as smiling, upset, etc. to other humanoids.
They share a lot more with other uniimas than with the elven or human O.s.
The most common Uniima ll's believe of why they humanized is that their Designer wished for peace with the sloman Designer and gave them the ability to speak sloman(elven) language and soul.
*outdated design*
A normal caterpillar
Okay so this is finally a drawn O (final stage of O. species that ifey belong to as the first stage)
They are a rare sight as most Os don't ever move out of their family/town/city hub. What they do is they lay all day taking food from the colony members while their bodies create more ifey (their mouth is down there by the little ifey). They do this by basically splitting. An ifey is fully formed with some knowledge already since Os have a separate brain just to duplicate it for *bebes*.
Os can also distantly communicate with their "children" but it's limited. Radiowaves moment.
With size, they can look like this picture on average but the bigger their colony the bigger the O which also means more ifey-making.
If you are lucky enough to see an O (you are an important diplomat or a close colony member) you see that they are also covered in tattoos. Those will usually depict the colony's history or whatever the O wants really.
Not sure if this is their final look but I'm satisfied for now. Might maybe change the "mask" but that's not the most important.
(sorry I posted them on the wrong account first but I will leave them there too now)
I don't know if this has been asked before, but do Uniima emote? If so, how do they do it? I've been following your worldbuilding for a while and I love how unique it is, and I've been wondering about this for a while
I did actually draw this before.
However, I did miss the important part, which would be sound expressions - the main way they express themselves, so here's that.
If you were a uniima in a uniiman society, you would hear this non-stop.
One can't exactly stop doing it without suppression.
And to accompany here's the older visual expression sheet.
Kula!
A popular domesticated animal of slomen.
Kula are adapted for grassy areas with lots of small prey. In the wild, they either jump after flying or jumping prey or wait at burrows before smashing their prey with their hooves. If the smash isn't enough they hold it to their beak and finish it. Some species are more specialized to wait while others to jump. The domesticated Kula is speculated to be one of the more energetic hunters, mostly interested in 'insects'.
In ancient times wild Kula were attracted to sloman settlements as they would also attract prey with the slomans' food and light. The slomen would soon learn that Kula were not pests since the wild animals were yet to be spoiled by premium meat cuts and preferred fresh moving meat that the slomen didn't want around.
In current times many cultures keep these animals as pest control on farms and in larger houses. They can be commonly seen in underground rooms that serve as food storage but for a healthy mental state, they need time on the sun.
While in the wild they are usually solitary or in small groups, Kula have a complex body language that they use to express their mood and/or needs. This can be very cute and funny, helping them become as loved as they are. Many owners will grow to care deeply for their Kula but some cultures recognize them directly as pets. In the high-ranking societies of these cultures, pet Kula get even rounder. Often a certain trait is popular in a culture, resulting in localised breeds with different shapes and colors.
Some little goober possibilities - not entirely canon
In a few places, Kula are also part of a religion and have their own shrines.
Anyway let's add a regular post on the mole stars
Here is the one from the new ref.
There are some updates from the last time you saw them. Their skin is full red and their "tentacles" are gone. Their teeth are inside their skin and not always visible.
They manipulate surroundings with very flexible arm endings that create slight suction between the frill layers. The frills are surprisingly energetic and have the most touchy nerves and many small muscles. The teeth can go very far back into the arm, leaving the mouth flexible (the teeth themselves are flexible-ish).
Star eyesight sucks. On each arm is 4 (sometimes 5) extendable thorns with tiny eyes on top that give the arm a basic sense of space. If they want to focus on something they look with their mouth which has its inside lined with photoreceptive cells. To get a decent image they shape the arm inside into a sphere and change the end diameter.
But this works a lot better underwater, where they only spend their early and partial adult lives. Speaking of early life. Stars are born looking more like jellyfish than a star.
When hatched, they are only 1/4 of their adult version, a single arm swimming around and slowly growing. After this stage, the little jellies start connecting. Most often you get 4 arms but some moles have 3 or 5 (other numbers have a hard time surviving). Once they are joined, their bodily functions are connected, and even their nervous system becomes one. While being sophonts, their brain/s work a lot differently, with their arms being somewhat capable of independent thought.
And a tiny possible living space. But that's just thoughts.

fun fact, Neal wanted to be a sloman priest as a teenager.
Also, foru tree thought? idk
the don't-worry-about-it and uuuh, ugly baby
lastly a character. They guide the group on their journey to the "different world". But this is still a WIP. I want to refine their outfit and name (text on the pic is their "first name").
An elder master performing one of many forms of a silent wing dance. The goal of this show is to appeal to the eyes alone, using movement and colors - making too much sound is seen as a failure in this specific style.
Some of the silent dances might try to confuse the watcher with fabric appearing as other body parts or wing flags that cover most of the performer. With uniiman arts, there are really too many variants to cover as their whole deal is to compete and innovate (but most often can still be categorized).
To some, the silent dance is more artistic than the loud one while others find it lazy not to play music with the body. It really is a question of taste.
Based on the crest drawings of this uniima it seems their show's purpose is to find 3 partners and create three lives. This however isn't because their dance or outfit is sexual, it is simply a show of skill with an additional message.
