when cal told andre rachel invited him to prom, andre laughed. like fully and totally laughed until he fell over onto cal’s bed. he thought cal was joking until he looked up and saw cal standing completely still with a confused look on his face.

“sorry. i just… well, that’s weird, isn’t it?” andre asked. “who invites friends to prom? that’s a romantic type thing, right?”

“i don’t think so.” cal wrung his hands. “i mean, i would’ve invited you.”

andre and cal stared at each other, neither talking but still thinking the same thing. they didn’t fit into the friends category nor the romantic category. they transcended beyond those groups and made an entirely new one.

the longer they looked at each other, the less awkward it became. cal started giggling, walking over to andre and plopping himself down on the bed. he turned to face the dark haired boy with a lopsided smile.

“so… would you help me practice slow dancing? just so i’m not awkward?”
