Chapter 5 - Daleks: Friend or Foe?

image

It was an ordinary evening in modern day London. People coming home from work, having dinner with their families, or even watching the news on the telly. Some children rather play outside and enjoy each other’s company until their mothers or fathers call them inside for dinner. A little boy named Jacob was busy playing football with his baby sister Emma. The two siblings were only 3 years apart, Jacob being seven years old, while Emma was five. Just by the looks of it, the siblings were really close. The evening went on with Emma kicking the ball towards the net while her brother was standing as the goalie. He cheered when his baby sister hit the goal and tossed her in the air to congratulate on her skills. But then something strange appeared out of nowhere. A large shadow peered over the children, causing the little girl to grasp onto her older brother with her small hands in fear. Jacob puts on a brave face as he quickly makes his way to the front door to keep Emma safe. The little girl was able to enter the house, but judging by the sound of the little boy’s scream, he didn’t make it.

The sound of the T.A.R.D.I.S. could be heard from miles away as it arrives in modern day London, England. The Doctor was the first to step out and observe the area to make sure this was the proper London, unlike the last one. He smiled in satisfaction before peeking into the blue box, “This is proper London!” he called “Are you sure, Doctor?” asked Esther, “Cause we’ve been through this before and you know how that turned out!” “Just come out and see for yourself!” And that’s what Esther did. The young companion steps out of the said box and looks around the city. A smile appeared on her face and glanced at the Doctor, “Yep, this is it” she said “Told you so” said the Doctor, stuffing his hands in his pockets with a smile. As he rambles about their last few adventures, Esther notices someone standing in an alleyway. The stranger looked much like a woman; dressed from head to toe in a dark shade of purple. Her hair was tied up in a neat yet messy high ponytail accompanied by a black umbrella which acts as a cane. She could be mistaken for Mary Poppins if she wasn’t so neat and tidy as the film from 1964. Her smile however wasn’t so friendly. It reminded Esther of a Cheshire cat looking down at Alice as she wandered around through Wonderland in search of the White Rabbit. “Whatcha lookin at?” asked the Doctor, catching Esther’s attention before turning back to the alleyway, seeing the mysterious woman had suddenly disappeared. ‘Where’d she go?’ thought Esther before her phone started to ring. After all that time she spent with the Time lord, Esther forgot she had a cellphone with her the whole time. She didn’t bother seeing the caller-ID as she answered the phone in a hurry. “Esther!” a voice called on the other line, “Where have you been, love? Eric and I were so worried about you after what happened at home” “Charlie” said Esther, surprised that one of her two best friends called, “I was traveling with-wait, how long ago were the Cybermen attacks?” “Four days ago” Esther glanced at the doctor who gave her a silent wink to show that time works differently in the T.A.R.D.I.S. “Anyway, why don’t we meet for lunch?” asked Charlie through the phone, “I wanna know where you’ve been all this time. If you happen to have a friend, bring them over. Eric and I would love to meet them” “Uhh… sure” said Esther, “I’ll meet you at the café near your flat. See ya soon” Once the girl hung up, she glanced at the time lord, “You wouldn’t mind joining me and my friends would you?” she asked, “Unless you have something better to do while we’re still here?” The Doctor glanced at his companion and shrugged, “Not really” he says, “Been a while since I’ve been to a café” The girl smiled and walks ahead of the time lord who gladly followed the girl behind, hands in the pockets of his suit, and a smile on his face.

A young female around the age of 18 or 19 sat outside near a coffee shop. Her name was Charlotte Dike, or Charlie as her close friends call her, one being Esther Lovegood. Her raven pixie cut slightly grown out a bit, paired with a pair of goggles you would see on a steampunk costume. Her hands are covered with fingerless black gloves to match with leather jacket and dark skinny jeans. While the male sitting across from Charlie, his name was Eric Heart. He was tall with dark hair and slight curls in the end, broad shoulders, and a pair of round spectacles to frame his surprisingly handsome features. But despite his looks, he was rather nerdy and quite awkward at times. At least, he was rather lovely company. Eric was reading the Metro newspaper in his hand when a presence appeared and covered the male’s eyes with their hands. “Guess who~” the voice spoke. Eric sighed and lowered his newspaper, thinking it was one of Charlie’s pranks and spoke, “Charlie, stop imitating Esther. I just had enough of your pranks when it comes to-” He paused when he turned to face Ether instead of Charlie. He blushed beneath his spectacles and muttered, “E-Esther! You’re back” “Yep” said Esther, “I’m alive and well” Charlie tackled her best friend into a tight hug. Thankfully, the two didn’t fall as they hugged one another. The Doctor stood aside so the three friends could keep up with one another before Charlie noticed him. “Who is that?” she asked Eric turned his direction towards the time lord then back at the girls, “Is he a new friend of yours?” he asked, “Or perhaps a professor?” “Well…” said Esther, “This is the Doctor, he’s uhh” “You mean, THE Doctor?” asked Eric, walking toward the time lord, nearly tripping over his own feet before shaking hands with the said Doctor. “It’s an honor to finally meet you, Doctor. I’m a huge fan of your work!” The Doctor looked rather surprised but smiled and shook the male’s hand in return. “Thank you, I’m very flattered” “Not gonna lie tho, I like a D.I.L.F. every now and then” said Charlie, eying the Doctor up and down. “A what?” asked the Doctor, “D.I.L.F.? What is that?” “A dad I like to-” “Okay! Enough of that” said Esther, “why don’t we head on over to the café and catch up?” The two friends finally agree and head off to the café with the Doctor once again following behind. He couldn’t remember the last time he saw his companions reuniting with friends and/or family after traveling through time and space for a good while. The figure from earlier observed the group within the shadows, mostly Esther, thinking of a proper way to meet the girl without anyone else around. Especially the Doctor.

On their way to the café, Esther stopped and noticed an old man reading a newspaper article on missing children in London. She walked over to the man and kindly asked if she could borrow it for a quick moment. The old man was a bit confused but gave it to the girl anyway. The Doctor walks over to his companion and glances over her shoulder. “Since when have children gone missing in the span of three days?” asked Esther, “I know I was gone for a while, but this is ridiculous” “That’s London for ya” said Eric, “I think this might be the job for the Doctor and his new companion~” “Or we can leave this to the police and Torchwood?” said Charlie, “I’m sure they’ll find the kids in no time” “No, this one’s different” said the Doctor, pulling out his spectacles to read the article for a moment before handing it back to the old man, “I don’t suppose it wouldn’t hurt to investigate the matter. Just hope U.N.I.T. doesn’t get involved in this mess” Before Esther could question about the said organization, a hand stopped her. A rather small hand, one the size of a child. She looked down to see a small, scared child with red puffy eyes from all the crying she must’ve endured. “Hello, sweetheart” said Esther, kneeling down to the child’s height, “What’s the matter? Did you get separated from your parents?” The child didn’t respond to the girl’s question until Charlie came up to grab her friend. “Come on, Esther, the Doctor’s waiting for ya” she said before noticing the child in front of them. “Please, help me” said the little girl, “My big brother was taken by bad aliens” “Bad aliens?” asked Charlie, gently picking up the child “You poor thing. Come on, kiddo. We know someone who can help you out” The child holds onto Charlie as they head off to the café and meet the boys. Esther follows before what felt like a painful headache appeared. Voices ringing in the back of her mind from a robotic voice yelling ‘Exterminate’ to ‘The Doctor will open the arc!’ “Esther!” a voice called Esther groaned and shook her head a bit before seeing Charlie a few feet away, “You okay?” “Yeah, I’m fine” said Esther, “I’m coming”

“I see” said the Doctor, “You and your brother were playing outside when suddenly an alien suddenly swept off his feet and disappeared?” The little girl nods, sitting happily on Charlie’s lap while doodling on a piece of paper. Her eyes focused on the drawing which Eric couldn’t help but look over her shoulder to see what the child was drawing. “Interesting” he said, adjusting his glasses, “That drawing looks an awful lot like an old enemy of the Doctor’s” “Who?” asked Esther, “Or in the Doctor’s case, what is it?” The little girl finishes the drawing and shows it to the short haired female. Charlie takes a look and raises a brow, “You sure that’s what you saw, kiddo?” she asked “It is, I saw it” said the child, “This is the bad alien that took my big brother” The Doctor kindly takes the drawing and looks at it carefully. It was an old enemy the Doctor has faced countless times. The one species that always manages to survive even through the Time War. Daleks.

“Daleks?!” asked Esther, “You mean actual Daleks! The ones that caused Doomsday back in 2006 along with the Cybermen?” “Yes, those Daleks” said the Doctor, pacing around the control panel in the T.A.R.D.I.S. to figure out the exact coordinates for where the Daleks might be hiding, “But the real question is, what do Daleks want with children? I don’t think I’ve ever seen them interact with a child in all my years of time travel” As the Doctor continued to ramble, Esther thought of an old memory in the back of her mind. One night when she was little, the sound of thunder echoed through her bedroom and a shot of lightning shocked the poor girl, causing her to hide underneath her blanket from fear. Her mother slowly entered the room with a small item in her hand, “Esther?” she spoke softly, “Are you alright, love?” “I’m scared, mum” said little Esther, “I don’t like thunderstorms” “Thankfully, I have something for you to scare the thunderstorms away” The older woman shows the young girl a small toy that resembles a Dalek. Although smaller in size, it felt quite intimidating to the eye. “This is a miniature Dalek” she said, “This little one will protect you from any danger and provide very useful information” “Even about the stars?” asked little Esther “The stars, history, anything your wondrous little mind~”

The teen glanced at the timelord, “Doc,” she said, “I think I have something that might help” She quickly makes her way down the halls of the T.A.R.D.I.S., returning a few minutes later with something behind her back. Her face looked hesitant at the Doctor before speaking, “Just” she paused, “Don’t freak out when I show you what it is” The Doctor paused, looking down at his companion suspiciously until he was presented with a miniature sized Dalek. His eyes widened in shock as well as confusion. How could a Dalek be so small in size? What if it’s dangerous? Or perhaps some kind of trap the Doctor wasn’t aware of. He quickly swiped the red object and examined it. “How long have you had this?” he asked, observing it with his eyes as well as the sonic “As long as I can remember” said Esther, “My mum gave it to me when I was little. I used have a fear of thunderstorms and this was the best way to keep me distracted from the sound and the lightning” “How did she find this?” “She built it actually” The Doctor raised a brow and turned his attention back to his companion, “Your mother built it?” he asked, “I don’t believe you” “Of course, you’re freaking out. With Daleks roaming around the city, you can’t even tell if this is a real Dalek or not!” The Miniature Dalek suddenly activates in the Doctor’s grasp, “Unhand me!” it spoke in a robotic tone. The Doctor nearly drops the said device but luckily, Esther was able to catch it before it was met with the ground. “That was close” she said, “You okay?” “You’re asking a Dalek if they’re okay?” asked The Doctor with disbelief in his voice “Identify yourself” said the Miniature Dalek “Esther” she responds, “Esther Lovegood” The Miniature Dalek scans the girl and speaks once again, “Sources indicate, you are Esther Lovegood. Please to make your acquaintance once more” “What is your purpose?” asked the Doctor “My purpose is to protect and serve my creator’s child. Provide knowledge of the universe” “Is that so?” The timelord properly placed the item down, giving it a proper scan to see what it was really made of. To his surprise, the Miniature Dalek was not a true Dalek. It was made of organic material for an AI. “Interesting” said the Doctor, “A Dalek that’s made of organic artificial intelligence” “So what you’re saying is, the mini Dalek isn’t a Dalek?” asked Esther “Oh, your mother was clever, Esther”

Outside the blue box, Eric and Charlie stood waiting for the timelord and their friend to return. One was pacing back and forth trying to figure out what was going on inside such a small box while the other entertained the little girl to keep their mind off the horrifying events she occurred the other night. Suddenly, a scream of terror came out of the child’s mouth as they ran towards Charlie for protection. The Doctor and Esther quickly step out of the T.A.R.D.I.S. to see what the commotion was about. “What happened?” asked the Doctor, glancing at the terrified little girl then on the other side of the road. There it was, a Dalek roaming through the streets of London kidnapping children in broad daylight. “Get in the T.A.R.D.I.S!” he called, gesturing for Eric and Charlie to enter the said box with the little girl in the tomboy’s arms. The two friends looked around in awe as the Doctor and Esther rushed to the control panel. “This is incredible!” said Eric, “I’ve always imagined the T.A.R.D.I.S. to be bigger on the inside, but never THIS big!” The male’s eyes glanced at the miniature Dalek sitting in the center of the controls, cautiously walking towards it to get a closer look at the device. “I didn’t know Daleks come in miniature size” “I beg your pardon?!” asked the Miniature Dalek, sounding rather offended, “I am not a Dalek!” “Would you two give it a rest” said Esther, “We got to find a safe place for the kid so we don’t-” The T.A.R.D.I.S. began to shake violently, nearly knocking everyone to the ground, including the Miniature Dalek, which Eric swiftly caught. “Doctor, what did you do?!” asked Esther “It’s not me!” The time lord replies, 'Something's interfering with the T.A.R.D.I.S.’ control system! Not the first time this happened, but if I can just figure out what’s causing it then I might be able to get us back on course!” “The Daleks have hacked into the control system!” said the Miniature Dalek, “Prepare for landing!” “Landing where?!” asked Charlie, holding onto the child for dear life, “Our possible deaths?!” “We are arriving on a Dalek ship!” “Everyone hold on to something!” cried the Doctor, pressing buttons and pulling levers while the rest held onto something so they wouldn’t fall.

The T.A.R.D.I.S. finally came to a stop and voices were heard from outside the said box. “The Doctor has arrived” said a robotic voice, “Inform the head Dalek at once” “And what of the child?” asked another robotic voice, “We have spent years searching” “Keep searching! The child shall be sent to the General!” The group stood quiet as they continued to listen. Once the coast was clear, the Doctor cautiously opened the door to see if any Daleks were roaming around. Thankfully, no one was around, at least for a while. Esther was the first to step out, her eyes glanced over at the window to see a beautiful view of the Earth from space itself. Eric followed along with Charlie and the kid. “Woah” said Charlie, “You get to do this with the Doctor?” “Pretty much” said Esther, “Mostly running and causing a bit of trouble from time to time, but it’s definitely worth it” “I can’t believe we’re on a ship in space” said Eric, “And with the Doctor himself of all people” The child in Charlie’s arms shook in fear as she watched the Earth for a moment before hiding her face in the tomboy’s shirt. “Guys, I’ll stay on the ship with the kid” said Charlie, “I’ll let you know if anything goes wrong” “Good idea” said the Doctor, tossing an old phone to the other, “Keep this on ya and be on the lookout for Daleks, I don’t want a single scratch on my T.A.R.D.I.S” “Yes sir” Esther and Eric follow the Doctor down the halls of the Dalek ship. “Exactly, how many times have you faced the Daleks, Doctor?” asked Esther, “Cause it seems like this isn’t the first” “Of course, it’s not the first time” said the Doctor, “Has anyone ever told you I’ve fought the Daleks for hundreds of years? Especially during the great Time War, nasty business if you ask me” Eric watched and listened in awe. His eyes sparkled as the time lord talked about his many encounters with the Daleks until he saw one in the corner of his eye, making its way down for inspection. The trio hid within a small room as a gold dalek inspected the halls, keeping as quiet as possible as to not get caught. A soft thud was heard beside Eric as he noticed Esther unconscious on the ground. He quickly knelt down to wake up his friend until the Doctor turned around. “He groaned silently and knelt down beside Eric, “Not right now” he whispered, “This is not the time for time sickness again” “Time sickness?” asked Eric, “You mean this happened to Esther before?” “Once when we arrived in Atlantis. It’s a rare case, but nothing dangerous if you must know” The time lord gently placed Esther’s body on the ground, his hands held her head gently as he closed his eyes to look into her mind, wondering what was going on inside his companion’s mind at this very moment, while Eric stood on lookout.

Esther’s eyes opened wide as her surroundings changed around her. It didn’t look anything like the Dalek ship she was in moments ago. An irritated sigh escaped her lips, realizing it was time sickness once again. She noticed a familiar logo plastered on the wall of a room, underneath it reads ‘Torchwood’ in bronze. “Place your hand upon the casket!” a Dalek called, grabbing the girl’s attention as she saw Rose Tyler and another male standing beside her. “Rose?” asked Esther, but then remembered it was all just a memory so no one could see or hear the girl. Rose Tyler paused and turns her attention to the Dalek, “If you… escaped the time war, don’t you want to know what happened?” she asked “Place your hand-” “What happened to the Emperor?” The Dalek paused, “The Emperor survived?!” “Till he met met” Esther stood in shock. How could THE Rose Tyler take down a Dalek with her own two hands? It was then Rose told the Dalek that she absorbed the time vortex and poured it into the Emperor’s head, turning him into dust with a dark look in her eyes. The Dalek stood silent in horror until its anger boiled into its system calling for extermination. “Oh, now, hold on, wait a minute” called the Doctor. This was the same one as the last one Esther saw from the library memory, only he appeared to be wearing a pair of 3D spectacles. It did look rather ridiculous in Esther’s opinion, but it probably served a purpose at the time. But something was different in a way. The Doctor came to a stop and turned his head toward Esther, surprising the girl until he placed a finger to his lips then pointed at the wall. The girl followed the time lord’s finger and noticed a message written on the said wall which read, ‘Wake up’ Esther felt rather confused, the message wasn’t there before. Was the Doctor trying to contact her? The moment her head turned, the memory changed from the Daleks to Rose and the Doctor standing in an empty room. “Once the breach collapses, that’s it!” said the Doctor, “You’ll never get to see her again. Your own mother!” “I made my choice a long time ago. And I’m never gonna leave you” said Rose, “So, what can I do to help?” The look in Rose’s eyes was like nothing Esther had ever seen before. The look in the blonde’s eyes was full of dispersion, want, and need. But most of all, love. Rose loved the Doctor and would do anything to stay with him. Even if she’d never see her family again. As the two start preparing to close the breach, Esther looked up at the ceiling, “Doctor!” she called, “What’s happening? I don’t know how to wake up from all this!” “You have to figure it out on your own” said the Doctor, using the memory to communicate with his current companion, “Trust me, Esther. This is one memory you don’t want to witness” “Why? What happened? Please, Doctor, tell me how do I properly wake up from this?!” The memory changed again, only by a bit, seeing the Doctor and Rose holding on for dear lives as Daleks and Cybermen flew towards the Void. A lever starts to move back, causing the computer to go offline. Esther watched as Rose attempted to grab onto the lever to pull it back in position. Although the Doctor tells Rose to leave it alone, she does it anyway. “Rose! Please stop!” cried Esther, “Listen to him! Listen to the Doctor, please!!” “Hold on!” cried the Doctor, reaching his hand for Rose to take. Unfortunately, Rose’s fingers slipped once she pulled the lever back in place, flying across the room towards the Void. The Doctor and Esther screamed in horror until a man appeared just in time to catch Rose and vanish without a trace as the breach closed behind them. Esther stood silently in horror, tears streaming down her face as she collapsed to the ground. “Please, wake up” she tells herself, “Esther, wake up!”

The girl wakes up with a gasp, breathing heavily with the Doctor’s arms. Her vision was a blur as the Doctor called to her softly and Eric quickly rushed to her side. Voices echoed through Esther’s mind as a familiar image appeared before her. She looked an awful lot like Rose Tyler. But yet, she wasn’t Rose Tyler. The blonde was dressed in rags, her hair wild like a beast, and her glowing eyes looked down at her as if it were it’s next meal. This was none-other than the Bad Wolf herself. A finger was pressed against Esther’s lips to keep her quiet as the Bad Wolf leaned closer, resting her forehead against the other. Everything felt silent as Esther slowly drifted off to sleep.

“We can’t just leave her, Doctor!” called Eric as he and the Doctor run through the halls of the ship, “The Daleks would kill her at any given moment” “Not yet!” said the Doctor, “Not as long as I’m still on this ship” He paused and turned toward the male, “That’s when you come in” “For what?” “The Doctor is here!” a Dalek calls, summoning a group of Daleks to surround the Doctor and Eric so they wouldn’t escape, “Prepare for extermination!” “Now hold on a minute” said the Doctor, “What is it with you kidnapping children all of a sudden? That doesn’t seem like your style. What are you really up to? Or better yet, WHO are you looking for?” “This is none of your concern” “Of course, it is! You don’t just go kidnapping children, not unless there’s a simple explanation to all this.” “Hang on a minute” said Eric, “Didn’t the Daleks say they’ve been searching for a child for years?” “Oh yes, Eric” the Doctor agreed, “How many years did the Daleks search for the child is the proper question. So, how many?” “18” The Doctor paused but laughed silently to himself, confusing the Daleks as well as the male beside him, “Doctor, what’s so funny?” asked Eric “Oh this is why I love time travel” said the Doctor, “The Daleks have never encountered a human child before. They don’t understand that children can grow. By now, the child they’re looking for is 18 years of age” “Explain! Explain!” cried the Dalek in confusion before another Dalek entered the scene. The Dalek that appeared before the group called, “The Child is here! Sources indicate, ESTHER LOVEGOOD is here!” The Doctor and Eric froze. The child the Daleks have been searching for was Esther all along? This only made Eric twice as worried about his friend as he and the time lord were lead to the General and hopefully Esther’s location.

The sound of children’s pleas echoed through the halls of the ship as the time lord entered the command center with the Dalek General sitting in the center of the room. On one side, a group of children coward before the presence of the Daleks entering the room, one child standing tall sending them a deadly glare. The other showed an unconscious female with her back facing the Daleks. “Esther!” called Eric as he reached for his friend. A Dalek sends an electric shock towards the male, “Stand back!” it commands “Let us go!” the boy demands, “You promised that if you find who you’re looking for, you can bring us home” “Silence, human child!” the Dalek General spoke, “Daleks do not keep promises. Nor do we take orders!” The moment Esther regains consciousness, the Daleks turn their attention to their target. “The child has awakened” said the Dalek General, “Prepare for extermination if they disobey!” “Leave her alone!” cried Eric, the Doctor holding him steady so he doesn’t do anything rash. Esther’s back faced the Daleks as she held her hands up, slowly standing up on her own two feet. “You know something?” she asks, “This all seems quite familiar. You capture the Doctor, plotting to destroy an entire planet, and the Emperor turns to dust in the end. Most of you will recall the Great Time War, but do you remember Doomsday?” “You know of Doomsday?” asked the Dalek General “The war between Cyberman and Dalek? Of course, I know because I was there” “Doctor, what’s going on?” asked Eric, “This isn’t something Esther would do” “Because that’s not Esther” said the Doctor “It’s funny how two little words could bring such fear to your kind as well as the universe itself” said Esther, “Of course, they go by two names. One of them being Rose Tyler” The girl paused, turning around to reveal her glowing eyes staring right at the Dalek General with a devilish grin on her face, “Or perhaps the Big Bad Wolf?~”

The Doctor froze while Eric watched with confusion. The children coward before the Bad Wolf as the Daleks turn their full attention to the girl standing before them with a grin on her face. “You will be EXTERMINATED!!” called the Dalek General, “EXTERMINATE!!” With the snap of her fingers, the Dalek General suddenly vanished into thin air, leaving the Daleks speechless, including the Doctor and Eric. “Esther, please stop!” called Eric “She can’t hear you” said the Doctor, “Her mind is being controlled by the Bad Wolf. In other words, Esther’s asleep and still going through Time Sickness” The Bad Wolf turned toward the children, using her power to make the children disappear in a blink of an eye. “What have you done?!” called the Doctor, “Where are the kids?!” “I’ve sent them back to their families” said the Bad Wolf, “Every child on this ship is safe. She wanted to save them. She wanted to save you, Doctor. Doesn’t that sound familiar?” The Doctor stood silently, the memories of Rose Tyler saving his and Jack Harkness’ life using the power of the Bad Wolf came to his mind. His eyes stared blankly as he calmly spoke, “Let her go, now” “No” said the Bad Wolf “You don’t have control over her. She’s not worth taking over, use me” “You’ve had your chance, Doctor. This girl is a better vessel than Rose Tyler. Which also makes me wonder” The Bad Wolf looked down at her hands, examining every part of it from her nails, the length of her fingers, to the palm of her hand, “I think this girl isn’t what she think she is” “Enough talking!” a Dalek spoke, “You will be Exterminated!” “Oh, I’m not done” The Bad Wolf uses her power to stop the Daleks from attacking, leaving her, Eric, and the Doctor to move in their own free will. “Please, stop” said Eric, “You don’t have to do this, Esther wouldn’t want this to happen. I know she wouldn’t” The Bad Wolf steps toward Eric, her glowing eyes filled with curiosity as she stands face to face with the male. She tilts her head as if she was trying to read him. Then she got it. A smile appeared on her face, “You love her, don’t you?” she asked, “You would do anything to keep her out of harm's way. How brave of you” Eric glared down at the girl and nods softly, “More than anything in the universe” he said, “If you refuse the Doctor’s offer than make me a vessel instead” “Don’t be stupid” said the Doctor, “If the Bad Wolf takes over your body, you might die” “I’m willing to do it, Doctor. I’d do anything to keep Esther safe, I promised her when we were kids. But if something does happen to me, just tell her…” Eric paused and sighed shaking his head, “She’ll probably know” The Doctor stood in silence and watched the scene unfold between the boy and the possible end of the universe. “Will Esther remember any of this?” asked Eric “No” the Bad Wolf replies, “She’ll think this is nothing but a dream, even if she’s suffering through time sickness while I’m in her body” Eric takes a breath, “Then I may have this one chance to do this” he said, tossing away his glasses before pulling the Bad Wolf in for a kiss to her lips. A minute later, a bright tight appeared from Esther's body to Eric’s, causing the girl to collapse in his arms.

The Doctor made his way towards Esther, carefully holding her in his arms before looking up at Eric, “You better keep him alive” he said, “If Eric dies, Esther would never forgive me” “She already forgives you” said the Bad Wolf, “Now go, you don’t have much time before the Daleks awaken from their nap” Esther’s groan caught the attention of the time lord, her eyes fluttering open as she looked up at him, “Doctor?” she asked, “What happened? Where are the kids?” “They’re fine” said the Doctor, “but right now, we need to run” “What about Eric?” “He’ll be fine, I promise. Now go!” Without hesitation, the Doctor grab’s his companion’s hand, running as fast as their legs could carry the two. A white Dalek appeared coming towards the two, calling out the words, “Exterminate!” “This way!” the Doctor ordered, turning the other way in order to find the blue box. Charlie stood outside the T.A.R.D.I.S. pacing around it with panic, her face filled with stress and worry since the little girl suddenly disappeared from her arms. It wasn’t until she heard the sound of footsteps that the tomboy saw her best friend and the time lord running for their lives from the Dalek. “Exterminate!” the Dalek called, firing toward the two. “Get back to the T.A.R.D.I.S.!” the Doctor called, opening its doors to get the girls and himself inside. “Wait, where’s Eric?!” asked Charlie “Little busy right now” said the Doctor “We can’t just leave him!” said Esther, “I have to go back and get him!” Before Esther could open the door, the blue box starts to shake from the Dalek’s attacks on the defense systems. “Sources indicate, we are under attack!” said the Miniature Dalek “Thanks, Captain Obvious!” said Esther, “What about Eric? Is he safe?!” “The Bad Wolf is here” Esther paused and glanced at the Miniature Dalek, “what did you say?” she asked “The Bad Wolf is here!” Charlie glanced at Esther and the Doctor, “Who’s the Bad Wolf?” Before the Doctor could answer, the sound of a Dalek’s scream echoed outside the blue box. He opens the door to see the Dalek that was chasing them was gone and Eric, or rather the Bad Wolf, stood with a displeased determined look in his glowing eyes. “Eric?” asked Esther, “Is that you?” The Doctor stops his companion from coming any closer to her friend, just in case anything goes wrong. Suddenly, the boy collapsed to the ground as the Bad Wolf left his body. “Eric!” cried Esther, running towards her unconscious friend and attempting to pick him up with Charlie’s help. The Doctor quickly placed Eric’s unconscious form to the ground once they returned to the T.A.R.D.I.S. to see if he was still alive. Esther on the other hand noticed the Bad Wolf kneeling beside him, looking down at Eric. “You have to admit, that was tremendously brave of him” she said “Why are you here?” asked Esther “You called me” “No, I didn’t” “Maybe not out loud” Esther paused as the Bad Wolf smirked saying “Save the children” or “Protect the Doctor” like a child annoying their parents. Before the girl could speak, the Bad Wolf appeared once more, face to face by one inch. She tilts her head and finally asks, “Who are you?” Esther paused. “You’re not who you say you are, Esther” said the Bad Wolf, “Your whole life was a lie and you know it. But yet, you chose to believe in it because you knew as a child that grownups lie just to make their children feel better.” The girl stayed quiet as the Bad Wolf leaned in with a serious look in their eyes, “So ask yourself, Esther Lovegood. Who are you? Why did the TARDIS come to you that day? Not just the Cybermen.” “What?” asked Esther before the sound of Eric’s breathing broke the tension.

She quickly helps her friend sit up properly before he could collapse again. Eric and Esther’s eyes meet, smiling softly in relief. “Hey” said Eric “Hi” said Esther, “You alright?” “Yeah” Eric placed his hands to his face, realizing he left his glasses behind on the Dalek ship, “Knew I should’ve kept a spare” he muttered “Actually,” said Esther, “I think you look pretty good without the glasses” Eric blushed at his friend’s words, feeling rather bashful as his heart pounds within his chest. The TARDIS suddenly comes to a complete stop once it returns to Earth in present day London. “When did the TARDIS bring us back?” asked Esther “You two were so caught up in the moment, Charlie and I decided to bring the TARDIS back to Earth” said the Doctor, “You never told me your friend was an excellent engineer” “Naturally~” said Charlie with a proud smile on her face. Esther rolled her eyes before hearing the sound of children’s laughter outside the blue box. The trio of friends make their way to the door, opening it to see the missing children being reunited with their families and playing with one another. “We did it” said Eric, “The children are safe and we defeated the Daleks” “For now” said the Doctor, “Daleks always survive, it’s in their nature. Perhaps one or two, but nothing to worry about for the time being.” Esther nods and looks over to see the same women dressed in purple hiding in an alley. A smirk was shown on her burgundy stained lips and mysterious eyes that looked rather pleased by both the Doctor and Esther’s work, as well as their presence before leaving the scene. “You’re going back to the TARDIS then?” asked Charlie, “Even though you just got here?” Esther smiled sadly at her two friends, “Sorry, guys” she said, “There’s still a lot of things in the universe that I need to see” “We understand, Esther” said Eric, “Just make sure you keep a tight leash on the Doctor as well as yourself. I don’t want you coming back from an alien attack” The girl laughed and shook her head, “I won’t, I promise” she said, “In fact, I’ll come back for Charlie’s Family Christmas Party. You know I never miss that” “You better” said Charlie, “Don’t be afraid to bring us something from your travels” “Will do” With that, Esther hugged her two best friends before heading back to the TARDIS with the Doctor waiting inside.

Next Time on Doctor Who

“So! Where would you like to go next?” “How about Camelot?” “I have never thought I would meet my fair beauty of an imaginary friend again” “Wasn’t there a statue in the garden when we got here?” “Don’t turn your back” “Don’t look away and DON’T BLINK!” “Amy!!”

I do love this quote; it describes them so well. Their relationship is so profound and intricate and I love every moment of it, all the twists and turns of the renegade friends who went down different paths in their wanderings.

I have considered shipping them romantically, but I really just don’t see them that way. I love the idea that their friendship is even deeper and more profound than that. At the end of the day, I just want to see them travel the universe together and to continue to challenge one another morally. The Missy redemption arc stuff was probably my favorite part of 12′s run and I hope they bring the Master back soon (I mean, it’s not like they haven’t been dead before. Side note, just where is this line of being “injured too badly to regenerate”? It’s wibbly-wobbly, I guess.). Definitely one of my top BrOTPs, probably the top, actually, and one of my favorite quotes from their relationship.

Oh, Dont Be Disgusting. Were Time Lords, Not Animals! Try, Nano-brain, To Rise Above The Reproductive

“Oh, don’t be disgusting. We’re Time Lords, not animals! Try, nano-brain, to rise above the reproductive frenzy of your noisy little food chain, and contemplate friendship“.

I love this episode so, so much... I’m not certain whether I can call it my absolute favorite because there are so many great Doctor Who episodes, but the interactions of the two Masters, both with one another and with the Doctor--and the way that they illustrate how much the Master and their relationship with the Doctor has changed and grown--it’s just so beautifully done. From the banter to the Doctor’s epic moral speech, I just love all of it.

Anyways this isn’t specifically relevant to this particular gifset, but it just showed up on my dash and I was like OMIGOSH THAT EPISOOODDEEE and I had to ramble about how much I love it. I need me that Doctor/Master interaction, and that multi-Master interaction, and just... all of it. Yes.

I’m so articulate tonight, haha.

an art nouveau style painting of Missy in her Doctor Falls attire. She is crying, eyes open. She is holding onto her dagger, blood is dripping onto her hand as she wipes it with a cloth. The background is of the bottom floor of the colony ship, flames surrounding her. In the border, there are daffodils being choked by thorns. There is a circle of gallifreyan behind her reading "without hope without witness without reward"

AND I WILL STAND HERE DOING IT UNTIL IT KILLS ME

Gouache, colored pencil, ink. Happy 7th anniversary, world enough and time. for the doctor falls anniversary, I’ll be releasing my twissy art zine for preorders. so . yay. anyways. proud of these. Painted them back in april, I now consider them the star pieces within my twissy collection

i say this as a 12/clara enthusiast and a friend to clara stans… but I personally think every episode featuring clara would be better if river was there instead 😬

imagine the ‘be a doctor’ moment in day of the doctor with river in clara’s place, imagine more kingston + capaldi, imagine river and missy’s rapport, luna university instead of coal hill, the singing towers leading into heaven sent, river’s portrait in the confession dial, river on gallifrey.

again, I do like clara!!✌🏻much love clara stans!!!! ❤️ i just personally care about river and what a thorough completion to her arch could have looked like more than I care about clara. i feel river’s arc is a cekhov’s gun set up with no execution. the story sets up her future adventures with the doctor, reveals who she is, then suddenly drops her except for three guest appearances to wrap up loose plot threads.

if anything, this is another layer to add to your butch lesbian 12 au’s :)

Hahaha! I really love that The Master is a Mistress this time.

"I accidentally wiped out a quarter of the population"

"I deliberately destroyed Earth."

"I may have made you fall from a radio tower"

"I turned everyone into me"

"I may have pretended to be a robot just so I could kiss you"

"I have a Cyberman army"

The 13th Doctor

I’m just so happy. For a fantastic show, with all the lore, back story and potential that Dr Who has, that the new regeneration will be a woman is brilliant. And hats off to the creators, I think they did it right. When the idea first came up a couple of years ago I was sceptical in a caught off guard way. I’d never thought about the doctor being ABLE to be a woman, let alone if it was something I’d be happy with. But the writers made Missy her own character and made us love her for her own evilness and snark, for her wit and sheer force of personality. And only then did they reveal she was as once The Master. And she only got better and more complex this season. The arc with her and the previous regeneration perfectly encapsulates how a character can develop over time (now fighting alongside the Doctor instead of against him) while showing that the character can retain the same presence, gravitas and diabolical nature regardless of their gender. The scenes with those two were a delight to watch.

And now that we’ve seen that this can work and that a female Time Lord can be a powerful character I really can’t wait to see what they do with Jodie’s Doctor. What will her take on the character be (Tennant was brooding but bouncy, Smiths was a bit manic and yet dark, Capaldi's I found slightly more beaten down and world weary)? How will she interpret this change? Who knows but I can’t wait to see! Well done to the BBC for doing this and making a bold choice for the character and the show. Let’s breathe some new life into the fandom!

After watching the first two interactions of the 12th Doctor & Missy I was thinking about something.

Missy drastically changed all of her pronouns and referred to herself as "Time Lady" & "Mistress".

From the 13th Doctor & Missy we know that Gallifreyans can change genders while regenerating. That brings several ideas...

1. Gallifreyans with a gender they like most. Like, someone who was a women 5 regenerations and then became a man and is extremely bickery about it.

2. Non binary Gallifreyans. Before the regeneration, 9 said he could have no head, or 2 heads. That means there were cases of not just changing genders, but species. So what about Gallifreyans changing into "humans" with no genitalia? Like, is it a Time Lady or a Time Lord? Wrong! It's a Time Maniac!

3. No gender related... Basically nothing on Gallifrey is gender related. Except maybe clothes and interests (cue to Missy saying slaying a Dalek is Time Ladies golf). Because at any point anyone can die and change genders. How are you not gonna let a lady inside a men pub when she was the one to establish it? Before she died of heart failure.

4. Marriage will be 100% built on love. I mean, how can you marry someone when you know they can change any minute? Only if you love them so much you don't care.

5. Not about genders. Age restriction. How would it work?? Do they also have a not drinking before x years? Do they have elderly homes for people on their 12th life? If one life lasts about 1000 - 1500 years (11th Doctor spent 800 years alone after the Ponds accident, and then about 300 years on Trenzalore.), people can live up to 18000 years!

6. Conservative Gallifreyans. In Japan we already have problems with the aging nation and a lot of rules benefitting the old, now think if the old generation loves to 18000 years.

7. Child birth. If their pregnancy is like ours , 9 months, and let's say about a child a year... Gallifrey would be over populated.

Update: I have checked "looms". First off, oof. Second, that brings even more questions.

You may add more
