I hear nothing. Not even a sound on the streets of New York, just the beat of my own heart. I have mail. From you.
YOU’VE GOT MAIL (1998) dir. Nora Ephron
there are a lot of things about “you’ve got mail” that make it the best romcom ever written, but i think that part of what is so compelling about it is the idea that you can be forgiven. that someone can see the mean, angry, sad, delusional side of you, and that part just becomes a piece of the whole. the whole, which is full of multitudes and possibilities and bravery to start something new. that whatever pride and prejudice you’re bringing to the table—someone will see through it, right down to who you are when you think no one is looking.
give me an actor, i give you a movie: Tom Hanks

“Well, let me ask you something. How can you forgive this guy for standing you up and not forgive me for this tiny little thing of… of putting you out of business? Oh, how I wish you would.”
