Madame Web - Tumblr Posts
Not y’all saying madame web is good. Is there radioactive spider blood in the water?
Just saw someone say madame web is better than spider-man 3 (2007).
Me getting recommended a madame web review but it's by an anti-woke channel
You know I get that actors or actresses should support the works they are in, and be enthusiastic about them...
But I have absolutely zero qualms about Dakota shitting on madame web. Call her a nepo baby but maybe Sony shouldn’t trick people into being in their fucking crap movies that dickride the mcu, with blatantly lying advertising, and writing that makes me feel genuinely better about my fanfiction feeling janky sometimes.
It’s like there’s only a FEW good things I can say about the movie, so I don’t blame her for not being excited about being in something that was obviously a cash grab.
It doesn’t help that Sony is trying to make spider-man 4 a multiverse movie, when it has the perfect setup to be more grounded in its story again. Spider-man 4 with tombstone, scorpion, Martin Li maybe, I want that ffs. Sony what the fuck are you doing? Just stop.
SPOILERS FOR JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX AHEAD
If you needed any further proof that the collapse of media literacy is real and at a crisis point, Folie a Deux is currently being panned as the worst film of the year because "the musical numbers don't make sense" when it's abundantly clear from the first instance this is a musical where the songs are entirely and strictly non-diegetic; they exist only in Arthur and Lee's heads and act as a metaphor and shorthand for their codependence and competing derangements - for insanity in general, you could say
This is made evident by THE FIRST MUSICAL NUMBER IN THE FILM, where Arthur goes from watching TV to wheeling around the common room singing For Once In My Life, only for it to hard cut back to before he started singing; this reveals that everything we just saw was entirely in his head, and sets the tone for the rest of the film
(It's not a perfect film, by a long way, but need I remind you that this year has already seen the release of Madame Web, a film that has been described as "a fever dream", "an opium-induced hallucination" and "the worst comic book movie ever made", and Megalopolis, the single greatest argument for a mandatory retirement age for directors there's ever been, so let's put the "worst movie of the year" award back on the shelf for a start)
What gets me is that this is really not high art stuff at all - this is basic, BASIC media literacy and the fact that millions of people are seemingly unable to realise it is genuinely shocking
