I’m sorry it took so long^^”
………………………………………………………………………..
It was one of the warmest, loveliest nights of the year. Of course, Hastur didn’t know that because he was sitting in his room, 666ft under the earth, looking at an old picture that had been taken a long time ago. „Happy 747th anniversary, Ligur.“ He said, feeling as weird as ever for talking to a picture. It felt strange for him, even though it helped him to somehow and slowly get over his partner’s death. Knowing someone for such a long time Hastur has known Ligur, makes one get emotionally attached to them, no matter whether one was a demon or an angel. „I have to go to earth again, you know? Some business meeting with one of the angels. Maybe I’ll ask him for some holy water to just end all of this crap. Hehe… I wish you were here, I miss you.“ The duke put the frame back on his desk and stretched, most of his bones cracking due to the fact that he had hardly moved in almost five hours. _Maybe I should really ask. All these emotions make me sick, I can’t handle this much longer…_ „At least you don’t have to do any paperwork anymore…“ He murmured, before grabbing some paper and a pen and leaving the office.
A pleasant smell filled the warm air around him, as he walked through the almost quiet streets, paying as little attention to the people as possible. _Goddess, I hate this planet, why is it always me who gets sent here?_ He thought to himself, humming a calm tune he has known for so many centuries; It was a song that Ligur had sung to him, way back when hell had not yet been a thing. Back when everyone was up there, peaceful and without any real sorrows. Everyone had been happy, even Beelzebub, who always had had the brightest smile of them all. But even though Hastur had already had feelings for Ligur back then, it had taken him way too much time to finally tell him and later propose to him. _747 years… that’s nothing for us…_
The demon stopped for a moment, feeling something cold running down his cheeks; he wiped it away, realizing that he had been crying for at least five minutes. „That’s new… Fuck this pain is going to kill me sooner or later.“ He commented, trying to hold more tears back. _I hope it’ll be as soon as possible._
Caught in his thoughts he continued walking through the streets, taking a turn every now and then before finally coming to a halt near a small forest. Nobody else was there, not a single thing to distract him from said thoughts so he just kept on humming the song that still caused him so much pain. A few more minutes passed until Hastur decided that a cigarette couldn’t hurt. He pulled one out of his coat pockets, put it in his mouth and lit it with the fire he summoned from his hand. The nicotine rushed through his body and made him feel much less tense. Smoking always made him feel more relaxed, especially because he didn’t get to do it very often. Hell was a no-smoking area, so everyone either had to leave or do it secretly.
„Oh, hello! I’m sorry for being late, I got lost on my way here. You must be Hastur, right? I’m-“ The duke’s head shot up, he knew that voice as well ass his own and he couldn’t help but stare at the other in disbelief. „Ligur! You- but you were… Ligur!“ He repeated before he rushed towards the angel, carelessly dropping the cigarette on the floor. „I’m sorry, you must have mistaken me for somebody else.“ Ligur answered, slowly taking a step backward. „My name’s Amriel and I was sent here for-“ Hastur interrupted him again, wrapping his arms around the angel tightly but carefully, hoping that he didn’t scare him off: „I thought I lost you! Did you really forget me? You’re joking, right?“ „I don’t know you, sorry!“ „Not at all? Do I not even seem familiar? Does holy water turn demons into angels again? Goddess, I thought you were fucking dead!“ Hastur continued whining, sobbing grossly. A warm hand was put on his back softly and the former demon started to speak again: „You don’t sound like you’re lying… Help me remember you then, will you? It seems like we were good friends.“ Hastur pulled away, cupping the other’s face with his shaking hands: „We were a couple, Ligur! I love you!“ Tears were streaming down his face as he put his lips on Amriel’s, slowly to see if he was going to pull away. He didn’t. It was a short kiss, the kind of kiss you would give someone after coming home from work, but it was enough to make Hastur’s heart flutter with the kind of joy he shouldn’t even feel as a demon. It had been too long since he had kissed his boyfriend the last time and now he was standing there without even knowing who he was. The angel put a finger on his mouth, thinking for a moment: „That felt… that felt familiar. Hehe… I think I will trust you. Heaven said I shouldn’t.“ Hastur chuckled quietly: „That’s what hell told me about… well they didn’t mention which angel I was going to meet. They just don’t want us to trust anyone, you know? You were one of the most mistrusting persons I knew.“ They just stood there in awkward silence for a while before Amriel took Hastur’s hand and led him into the forest: „I saw a nice place on my way here. It’s not too far away, we can go there and talk if you like.“ The duke smiled again and nodded happily.
„…and that over there is called „Cepheus“.“ The angel explained, pointing up to the sky. Of course, he wasn’t aware of the fact that Hastur knew that since he was present when the constellation was made but it didn’t matter. Hastur didn’t tell him and just lay there, his head in Amriel’s lap, and listened to his loved one’s voice. After a while, both of them just gazed up into the night sky while the demon softly hummed his song and let the angel pet his head absentmindedly. „You used to sing this song to me. Thousands of years ago, when both of us were angels. Back when everything was so peaceful and hell didn’t exist. You probably don’t remember, I don’t even remember it clearly.“ He let out a sigh: „I don’t even know what exactly you sang. It’s been way too long.“ Amriel kept stroking his hair, now humming the sad tune himself and closing his eyes. Hastur melted into the touch and had trouble staying awake. Of course, as I demon he didn’t need sleep, but it’s been a long time since he had been so calm around anyone. After the fall, Ligur had been the only person that he had trusted so life became more stressful for him after the incident with the holy water.
When Amriel suddenly started speaking again, the duke twitched slightly and opened his eyes: „We used to dance, didn’t we?“ Hastur sat up and chuckled again: „Yes. It was terrible, we may have better music but heaven has the best choreographers.“ „I didn’t mean that. I meant in the beginning. Before the war. Before hell. We used to dance. A rather slow dance.“ He stood up and placed his hands on an invisible partner. Then he moved around slowly, trying his best to remember the few steps. „I think you need to start with the right foot.“ Hastur commented, taking the imaginary person’s place. „And I have to start left.“ They tried it again and slowly figured out the correct way together.
„Oh, I’m sorry.“ Amriel said after stepping on the duke’s foot once more. „It’s fine, don’t worry. I stepped on your feet more often.“ Both of them laughed and looked in each other’s eyes before the angel pulled Hastur closer for a second kiss; this time it lasted longer and was far more passionate than before. If they had been human, they probably would have passed out from the lack of oxygen in their brains. But since they weren’t it took another two minutes until they finally broke the kiss. Amriel cupped his face gently: „I’m afraid we have to go home now. They’ll be wondering where we are. But I promise that we’ll meet again.“ Hastur hesitated and put his hand on the angel’s: „Do you really promise it? I can’t take another eternity without you! That’s what it felt like…“ His eyes watered up again, but he managed to pull himself together this time. „Of course I do. I’m an angel, I wouldn’t lie.“ Amriel joked, placing a soft kiss on Hastur’s forehead. „I’ll try to arrange another meeting with you. Just invent something for today.“ The duke nodded in response: „Huh, we used to make fun of Crowley and that other angel when we saw them together. And now look at us.“ A small laugh escaped his lips although he knew that he would be alone again. Amriel took his hand and they went back to where they had met earlier. Most of the time they were silent and just enjoyed each other’s company for as long as they could.
A few minutes later Hastur stood there again, near the same forest, smoking a cigarette. He watched the angel disappear into the shadows of the trees and couldn’t help smiling. He’d spent so much time grieving over a person who wasn’t dead, it almost felt ridiculous. Still smiling, he made his way back, humming a familiar tune that had been in his head for thousands of years.
