I think other fandoms are so used to their ships being explicitly monogamous and honestly pretty puritanical bc of long-standing cultural brainwashing. There’s an untrue and unrealistic sentiment perpetuated by most media that a person may only ever have one true love and that any other proceeding love they might feel for someone after meeting their “true love” cannot and should not be a love of the same intensity as their first - otherwise it would diminish or degrade the prior relationship.
“Firsts” are given so much credence and virtue in Western society, and any character who does not honor that belief is oftentimes meant to be seen as a harlot or as someone undeserving of love (bc look they can’t even respect the very foundation of it - lol as if Love is some deity you have to appease)
Iwtv skirts this trope simply because Anne Rice is/was ahead of her time, but also bc the characters are very much NOT human. In the eyes of many, these vampires don’t have to follow any sort of morality or ingrained code of conduct (again, equating goodness with traditionalism).

As someone who ships Devil's Minion, Loustat, Loumand, Lesmand, Armianca, and basically all The Vampire Chronicles ships except disgusting ones like Armand/Marius, I really do not understand the ship wars in this fandom. 🤷♀️

“Enjoy him” was really so cunty on multiple levels because first you’ve got Louis over here bullshitting and Lestat is openly calling him on it and saying out loud that he knows Armand ain’t no prize. And then you’ve got Armand sitting there, unable to say shit because he knows it’s true and also because Lestat’s got a blow dryer aimed right at his careful house of cards. BUT ALSO… “enjoy him” has to be one of the nastiest and most vitriolic things a person with the full knowledge of Armand’s past could say to the man who /is/ actively using him in a way. Especially knowing how Armand desires the ability to love and be loved and it’s the one goddamn thing he hasn’t figured out in his CENTURIES on this earth.
Like, do you think “enjoy him” were words Lestat drew from his memories of Marius when they drank from each other??? Because…

All I can say is that Assad is clearly very into Armandstat. I remember his reflections in interviews and he's absolutely one of us. He is hyperaware of how important Lestat is to Armand, how his brain chemistry is affected by his presence and distance. The horror and beauty of being in love with someone you'll never have.

So anyway fast forward one hundred million boring chapters about christian stuff that has nothing to do with vampires or the rest of the series, and Lestat stumbles back in, filthy, with one shoe, and also the devil ripped out one of his eyes.

one of my favorite iwtv concepts is a louis/lestat/armand polycule. it wouldn't fix things. it would probably make them a thousand times worse. however, i think they should give it a try anyway because it would be SO funny.

armand is going to not say no to anything ever. is he down for that? doesn't matter. he will do it. he'll be going on and on about how damn healthy they are now that they've resolved their love triangle to a healthy flourishing throuple. if he never mentions any problems whatsoever he can create a romanticized version of them in his head where they all love each other equally and no one is ever jealous. doesn't matter what he wants, he's going to get a good grade in polycule which is both normal to want and possible to achieve.
louis is the one who suggested it in the first place and was like pls pls pls pls pls can you guys get along for me pls pls pls but now he spends all his time withdrawing and pondering if he's made a mistake, leaving armand and lestat alone together because he's off eating cats and shit and not actually participating in the relationship, then getting mad at them for having an affair with each other to spite and manipulate him (they are also together louis. louis this is a crucial part of a throuple. louis.)
