Daredevil Age Head canons
My friend @marvelvibess and I were talking about how old Matt, Foggy and Karen are in the first season and honestly the timelines for the NMCU are really fucked up so this is is what we came up with. (This was posted with their permission) (Also spoilers for all seasons of Daredevil)
Karen: She’s 19 in 03.10 (I think) and it seams like she left pretty soon after that. We decided she's 22 giving her three years to get sober, move to NYC and get a job. She maybe drifted around for a year or year and a half working odd jobs and trying to get back on her feet. She finally moves to New York, it probably takes her 6ish months to find a stable long term job (Union Allied). She works there for a year before she finds the damning information and is framed for murder and meets Matt and Foggy.
Matt: So I know I know he’s supposed to be born in 1985 or something but I’m disregarding that because its my head canon and I do what I want. I personally think it would be really important to Matt that he does school on time. His dad drilled into him that he needed to go to school and make something of himself so it was probably important to him that he did school the traditional way. So he starts undergrad at 18 and graduates Columbia Law at 25.
Foggy: In the college flashback in 01.10 when Matt and Foggy meet Foggy says “I heard about you when you were a kid! What you did, saving that guy crossing the street.” To me this sounds like Foggy is a few years older than Matt as he remembers what happened. He also says when “you” were a kid not when “we” were kids. So we decided that he’s 29 in season 1. It probably wouldn’t have been a big deal to him or his family if he did school on time so he probably took undergrad slower and worked at Nelson’s Meats or something to save up.
The date on Foggy’s computer in the flashback in 2010. I seem to remember that someone said something about “The Incident” being about 2 years ago in 01.01. This would kind of line up. Matt and Foggy started Law School in 2010 Matt is 22 and Foggy is 26. The Incident happens in 2012 and they graduate in May 2013. They work for Landman and Zach for 9ish months (they had to be there a while to be considered for the promotion) then quit and created Nelson and Murdock in early 2014.
In summery. Karen: Born in 1991, 22 in season 1
Matt: Born 1988, 26 in season 1 (his birthday is in January I think thus he’s 26 instead of 25)
Foggy: Born 1985, 29 in Season 1
These are just @marvelvibess and I’s head canon. We tried to use dates that match up with the TV show but honestly that timeline is fucked up so we ignored/disregarded some facts. If you disagree that fine!

Ok I know I’m not the first one to do this but yesterday I was board so I fucked around and transed Matts gender.

Some bonus trans head canons:
-Matt knew from a young age that he wasn’t a girl. Jack thought he was just a tom boy for the longest time. Matt came out right before the accident. Jack started to call him Matty as a sort of transition from Madeleine (his dead name) to Matthew. Matt liked the name. Jack let him cut his hair and wear more masculine clothing.
-*TW for transphobic language in this section* When Stick started training him he was a huge biggot. He would call Matt by his name and use the right pronouns but made sure he felt shit about himself for it. He would call him Matty but in a not nice way, more like the nickname Maddy derived from his dead name. He would also say things like “god your the weakest boy I’ve ever met” “your a fucking pussy” “a real boy your get up and take it” “a real boy wouldn’t complain” and other horrible things.
-*TW transphobia in this section* the nuns kind of ignored his gender. They mostly deadnamed him and used she/her pronouns. Father Lantom was a bit better about it.
-At 18 one of the first things he did was take the money Jack left him and start Testosterone and get top surgery. By the time he hits law school he’s been stealth for a few years. Even though he has transitioned he still has a lot of internalized transphobia from Stick and the orphanage and very much hates himself for not being born cis.
-He and Foggy meet at the beginning of L1 and Foggy is pretty nervous because they have been out and proud as nonbinary for a long time and they realize that Matt is Catholic. When they tell him he handles it really well and uses all the right pronouns but doesn’t come out to them quite yet.
-Its not until half way through L1 that Matt finally tells them. Foggy is ecstatic and helps show Matt that being trans is something to celebrate instead of be ashamed of. Matt still has internalized stuff but he doesn’t hate himself as much as before.
-Matt has to go to Planned Parenthood every two weeks to get his T injection because he can’t fill up the syringe on his own. When Foggy finds this out they’re like “Hey I could totally do that for you!” and Matt is just :o {surprised face}. Foggy reiterates that its totally fine if he feels more comfortable going into the clinic for it, its totally his choice which they will completely respect. Matt actually hates having to go in every two weeks and takes them up on the offer. They go together at the next appointment and the nurse shows Foggy how to do it and they practice a few times with a small amount of saline. Foggy does Matt’s injections from then on.
-After they start Nelson and Murdock, Karen (a trans woman) find out that Matt has never once been to pride despite Foggy (who has been every year since they were a teenager) trying to get him to go. She makes it her mission to get him to go and finally he relents. He’s nervous because the noise will mess with his senses and the crowd will make it hard for him to navigate with his cane. He would die before he says this but Foggy and Karen are perceptive and promise to guide him the entire time. When they go Karen goes shirtless (she's on estrogen but has not had surgery) because you don’t need boobs to be a woman! She does crazy eye makeup one eye has trans colors and the other has bisexual colors (credit for the idea of Karens makeup goes to @marvelvibess) Foggy paints their nails black and Karen does their makeup which is similar to hers but instead of the trans colors its nonbinary colors. They also wear a pronoun pin. Matt goes a bit more low key with dark blood red nail polish and eyeliner and a two small pins one trans and one bisexual. Foggy also gets him rainbow sunglasses which he wears. They all have a blast.
-After The People v. Frank Castle and the office breakup Foggy stops doing Matt’s T shots. They are really mad at him. So, Matt calls Claire. She's just happy that he’s called her for something thats not a life threatening injury. After Defenders when Matt wakes up at St. Agnes and he’s well enough he goes back to his apartment to steal his supplies. Sister Maggie begrudgingly does it for him (she's not sure how to feel about her child being trans but its obvious that this is who he is so its kind of a if you can’t beat him join him type thing). After Season 3 and the trio get back together Foggy starts doing it again.
And thats all I have for trans Matt Murdock!
TLDR: Matts known he’s trans since he was little. Stick was a dick about it. He starts transitioning at 18 and Foggy (who is NB) starts doing his shots for him. Karen (a trans woman) and Foggy drag him to pride. Claire does his injections after the office breakup then Maggie does it after that until they all make up again.

Season 3 and Matt’s Fake Death
I know a lot of people say that Matt was an asshole at the beginning of season 3 for not telling Foggy and Karen that he was alive after Midland Circle. When I first watched it I thought that too but now not so much.
Let’s set the context. The beginning of TD makes it clear that Karen and Foggy aren’t talking to Matt after season 2. Which means that Matt has been totally alone for months. Not only that but they both said some really shitty things to him during and after the Castle trial.
Then he finds out that The Hand is back and they’re going to destroy New York City. He does what he has to and dawns the suit again. He brings in Foggy and Karen to keep them safe and they give him nothing but shit for “relapsing” (I have Thoughts™ about them comparing DD to an addiction but thats for another post) despite the fact that he’s trying to save lives.
So of course he doesn’t tell them he’s alive. For the last idk six months they’ve done nothing but abandon and belittle him because of Daredevil. At the beginning of season 3 he says that Matt Murdock is dead and only Daredevil (the part of him that his friends hate) remains. Do you really blame him for letting them think he’s dead?

-He has three kinds of posts: Pulitzer worthy treatise on morality, truth and justice, the most unhinged shitposts known to man and incoherent nonsense, there is no in between
-He gathers quite a following
-He post 2-3 times a week exclusively in the middle of the night
-His user is BlindJustice666
-Everyone is like who is this fucker and is he ok (the consensus is that he is very not ok)
-Sometimes he posts things like “I think God wants me dead” and everyone is like ok mood but are you good??? (he’s not)
-People genuinely can’t tell if he’s a devout catholic or a troll (plot twist he’s both)
-Someone: OP you good? BlindJustice666: God has forsaken me to live for my sins. Someone: Understandable have a nice day

-He’s somehow unaware that they found his blog
-Matt makes a very angsty and dramatic post after the fight with Foggy in season 1. Everyone offers to fight the friend he’s talking about.
-When Foggy finds this post it hits him how shitty he was that night
-At the beginning of Season 3 he makes some very angsty posts that low key makes everyone worried he’s gonna kill himself (their not wrong)
-Every few months he posts something thats a red flag
-Matt figures out his autistic from tumblr (he’s absolutely autistic and you can pry that head canon from my cold dead hands)
-He finds out because he posts something and someone responds “hey OP you ever hear of autism cuz I’m like 99% sure you’ve got it”
-He’s like 😮😮😮 {three shocked emojis} and does’t post for two weeks which is worrying to everyone because because its around the time he’s made a red flag post but he comes back and starts posting like nothings happened
-He deep dived into researching autism and figures out that he indeed has it
-This is around season 1 and he tells no one
-he makes some posts about it months later
-Karen and Foggy find these posts after season 3 and are like “fuck” and start trying to surreptitiously accommodating that without letting him know that they know
-He stops posting right after Midland Circle (obviously) and everyone is worried
-The first post after is “Sorry I disappeared for a while I died for like a week them my arch nemesis tried to kill me and I kind of think I’m hallucinating???”
-He posts “why do I fail at everything? I can not even die properly. God has forsaken me to live. His retribution is worse than Hell itself” after his Season 3 suicide attempt and everyone is worried (as they should be)
-After that people send him asks like hey please keep living you make out lives better
-He absolutely looses it when he sees those asks and Maggie finds him sobbing on the floor. he’s like “oh no they don’t know how terrible a person I am”
-He makes a whole post apologizing for playing them and making them think he’s not a monster
-no one believes it
-Eventually Karen shows Sister Maggie the blog so she can also keep an eye on him.
-Her user name is just maggie
-She doesn’t really post anything but if she did Tumblr would love her
-Matt never makes posts with info that could be linked back to him
-However he does make some posts that are supposed to be “fun stories” from his childhood
-He has some posts about Stick
-BlindJustice666: *random super fucked up story about Stick* So that was a weird thing that happened lol. Everyone: *concern*
-Everyone is mildly concerned that he was a child soldier (Their not wrong)
-Everything he posts is so incredibly specific or very very vague
-In conclusion Matt needs a tumblr like yesterday, he’s just the right amount of chaos to fit in well here

summary: Amy's adoptive sister and Frank only have one thing in common, and that's keeping Amy save. They don't get along really well.
Rose groaned as she sat up from the couch she`d been sleeping on, and was happy to see Frank hadn`t come back yet. She got up, quietly as not to wake Amy who was peacefully sleeping on the only bed the trailer had.
She made herself a cup of hot brew and ate this protein bar that was laying on the counter.
Then changed into her workout clothes and did some pushups, and pullups at the doorframe leading to the kitchen, all while trying not to be too loud.
As she was doing a set off pull ups she heard Franks voice from the outside, announcing his arrival.
She opened the door and told him to keep quiet , because of Amy , ignoring the fact that he was covered in blood beneath his jacket yet again. Frank let out a grunt as answer and made his way to the bathroom,
to probably tend to his wounds. Meanwhile Rose started doing her last set of push ups, while listening to the frustrated sounds Frank made.
She decided to ask if he needed help, so she went to the bathroom door and knocked :"You sound like you could use some help, I know we`re not exactly besties but yea I just want you to know Im here if you need help."
She waited a few seconds, Frank had gone totally silent since she had spoken. She was about go when the door to the bathroom opened. As she stepped inside she could see that Frank had taken off his shirt and was apparently trying to stitch up a nasty cut at his lower back.
She immediately reached for the wet cloth that was laying on the counter and the rubbing alcohol, and started cleaning his wound with it.
"How the fuck does that happen?" She asked while preparing to stitch the cut. "Didn`t wear my vest
and one of those fuckers jumped at me from behind." He flinched as she started stitching.
"He wouldn`t have gotten the jump at you if I had been there to back you up Castle." At that he visibly tensed "Yea right what would you have done? Shot him?
killed a man?" Now Rose was pissed too, at his total disregard of her abilities "You`re damn right I would have shot him, and you fucking know it, you know I`m a goddamn good sniper." He flinched as she angrily forced the needle to
go in. After a moment he said" Yea you keep tellin yourself that, and maybe it`s gonna happen, but I ain`t seen you shoot any weapon before kid." Rose kept her composure and responded passive aggressively
"Yea because you don`t just go off shooting at random things, and you just don`t want any help because you hope that you get killed right? So you can finally die, well let me tell you something Castle, I don`t like you I don`t give a shit
if you die or not, but if you do. And I hate to admit it , there won`t be anyone able to protect Amy like you do from what’s commin, so if you really care about her Castle, I suggest you stay alive. And don`t you ever call me Kid again."
At that he didn’t respond, she silently finished his stitching and put some bandages around his wound. Then she wordlessly cleaned and took care of all the minor injuries he wouldn`t been able to reach and left.
Well that was one nice conversation she thought as she took her bag and exited the trailer.
Frank still just sat there, thinking about what she had said, it had really gotten to him. The fact that she knew that he didn’t care whether he died or lived. But he forgot to tell her that he didn’t want her to die too, he didn’t want anyone else to get caught up in this mess, and as far as they knew there was no one looking for her, yet. He suddenly heard the door being shut and got out to find Rose was gone. “Damn it .” He uttered.
Rose was determined to get the guys that were after Amy, and so she did something she promised herself to never do again, but it was Amy , so she had to.
Later that day Rose returned , with a large sport bag contents unknown. She strode inside like on a mission and placed it on the table , ignoring Franks questions as to where shed been and what she had been doing.
She wordlessly opened the duffle and pulled out a long black box.
A weapons case, frank recognized.
“Hey what are you two up to?” Amy asked walking up to them from behind. “Amy I don’t want you to see this, could you please wait in the back?” Rose inquired.
“Like hell I am, I am sick of being shut out, and treated like a kid from the both of you. I am staying.”
“Fine, but don’t touch anything, you too castle!” Rose spoke with an annoyed undertone, as she opened the case, and revealed its contents a black Barrett M82.
“Where the hell did you get this?” Frank furiously inquired. “I took it with me when I left the army.” She answered calmly to release the tension. “Right , you have been deployed, you’re what 20 ? With a criminal background , when would that have happened?”
Rose let out an annoyed sigh at his disbelief and explained: “ I`m twenty one actually, I went to the army when I was eighteen , stayed till I was like nineteen and a half , I was a natural as sniper, was deployed for a few unimprtant missions, then they wanted to use me and a few other recruits as hitmen, I knew with what I knew they wouldn’t let me live if I refused their offer, so I took my shit and went AWOL. I had to disappear , after that I had to keep over water somehow, and so I did some jobs where I could put my special skills to use. It was extremely violent, and after a while I realized that I couldn’t keep doing it anymore all the things I did were just so wrong. So I searched myself a new kind of job, promising myself to never bring up my past again. I found these guys that were giving out jobs where you had to con people and it was pretty well paid that’s when I met Amy. That was about a year and a half ago.”
Amy had just been silently listening and suddenly uttered “ I thought you trusted me , and that we tell each other everything, and now I hear that you were a hitman , a mercenary?! So you lied to me about your past, and that’s how you were able to shoot a gun and beat up those guys that were after us once. Its like I don’t even know you anymore.”
Frank just silently watched, though it looked like he was contemplating something in his head.
“ Amy , you know I love you, you are like a sister to me, and I didn’t want you to know about this because its dangerous, there are still people looking for me and its dangerous for everyone who knows about this. And I tried to leave that part of my life behind, so I decided to never tell anyone , till now.”
“Yea its too dangerous, that’s what everyone keeps telling me , you know what you two , deserve each other, both keeping secrets and telling everyone its for their best ,but you-“ she was pointing at Rose “and especially you –“ now she pointed at Frank “ Are just psychopaths who like to find excuses for the awful things that you do.” With that Amy took her stuff, and went to exit the trailer. “Wow where do you think you are going.“ Frank suddenly inquired. “ Don’t even try to stop me , I am staying with Curtis, I am so sick of you too, but hey maybe you two can go on a murder spree together now. That’s what you do right?!” With a loud thud the door was slammed shut and Amy gone.
Rose wanted to go run after Amy, but Frank grabbed her arm and held her back “Don’t , she’s save with Curt , and you and me have to talk anyway.” Rose wriggled out of his hold and countered :” Oh we have nothing to talk about, the only thing we had in common , just left, I don’t owe you anything!”
She made her way to the table and started packing her stuff. Frank in the meantime phoned Curtis, about Amy.
Curtis told him that Amy had already called him and asked if she could stay with him, and that he was on his way to pick her up.
Now he turned to Rose, he watched her furiously trying to fit all her belongings in one small duffle, he would have never thought that she was ex military, but he had never seen her fight before too, except for when they first met ,she had pointed a gun at him and they had almost killed each other if it hadn’t been for Amy stepping in.
“I just talked to Curt , he is picking her up , she’s save now, you don’t need to worry about her kid.” Rose ignored him, but stopped packing and sat down burying her head in her hands.
She had realized that she wasn’t mad at Amy, or Frank, she was mad at herself, for burying up her past.
“Look just give her some time, she`ll come around sooner or later, you were just trying to protect her she`ll see that.” Frank spoke sitting down on the other end of the couch. Rose didn’t look up but mumbled :”I don’t think so, she hates me now, I messed it up again, she’s the only one I care about and now she hates me too. I should have never lied to her , I mean how could I keep this from her ?” Now it sounded like she was crying. “Look , kid. I – . I knew when I was deployed I signed up for this shady operation that wasn’t the normal kind of mission, hell I knew that this might affect me later in my life. That it might have some consequences when I`d come home. Even endanger my family. But I ignored those thoughts , I ignored all reason because I liked it, I always loved it. War all that shit. My wife knew , she told me herself that it was ok , that she loved me anyway.
But in the back of my head I knew , I always knew that I was and undoubtably am the reason they died. I had a choice, I could have signed out, lived a happy life, but I didn’t. What I wanna say is , you had the chance to get out, and you did, you are a good person Rose , and I don’t believe that Amy hates you for one second.”
Rose sighed “Yea , but I am just as bad, when I fled I could have gone under, really disappeared , but I didn’t I searched the fight I took jobs that were just as bad as the one they had offered me in the army. Back then I beat up guys just for the fun of it sometimes. I decided that I wanted to fight , and it didn’t matter if it was in the army , as private security, or something else. When I fled I noticed it that itch , the need for violence. Till I finally realized that it had to stop, that I had to stop.” She looked at him and when Frank didn’t answer she continued :” And keeping it from Amy was wrong, I should have told her who I really am, what I had done, but I just wanted to feel normal. But regardless of what I did , I never killed anyone. I beat them up, tortured even but I never killed, I didn’t want to go that far.”
Frank now regarded her and said:” You´re better than me kid, you haven’t crossed that line you still have a chance at normal. You were right trying to keep the past in the past and when this is over, you should take Amy and go start a new life, get a chance at normal.”
Rose regarded him for a moment before getting up and grabbing her bag “Thanks Castle, for keeping Amy save, and for the advice. I´m gonna go now, call me when Amy comes back.” She said laying a burner phone down next to him, before walking to the door.
“Castle you are probably the only one that’s able to give her the protection she needs, now , but I want you to know that when she’s save you don’t send her to me, my life never was normal and never will be. And don´t take this personally, but I hope we´ll never meet again.”
-And with that she left.
