San Juan Islands of northwest Washington, a haven for endangered marine mammals where the people number just 7,000. A male humpback whale named Nike, thought to be 10 years old, approached whale watching boats in the Strait of Georgia and circled them for nearly an hour. According to researchers’ logs, he has a reputation as an extremely curious whale.

Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae)
Fun-loving Humpback whale. I had the great privilege and joy of seeing these animals in the wild almost a year ago, though unfortunately there was no jumping.
