Aventurine, as a tweet from X user greenjuicestain: "hope whoever (referring to Sunday) prayed on my downfall is doing okay. must be hard to realize god doesn't listen to you"
Sunday, as a miserable wojak meme: "The world is a cruel and unjust place. There is no harmony in the universe. The only constant is suffering."
*minutes later*
Sunday, visibly more upbeat, looking at Robin who is edited next to a literal robin: "OMG a bird"
Sunday as a post from X user meduka_ebooks: "cw// sacrificing myself, becoming a concept, ascending into godhood, ceasing to exist"
"You guys will never guess what I've been up to today"
Sunday, as a post from Tumblr user pukicho: "Quit worshiping random people on the internet. Slay false-gods and take their power."
Trailblazer, as a reblog from user rainbow-mcgee, donning Mikhail's hat: "I hope you realize that includes you, pukicho."
Sunday, in his boss form, as a reblog from pukicho: "Do it bitch, just make sure you don't miss."
Trailblazer, having just woken from their nightmare upon arriving in Penacony.
Black Swan, as a post from Tumblr user butchatalanta: "characters will be like 'i had a strange dream... probably nothing' like girl you're literally in a story"
Acheron, stating "Not another one..." as Trailblazer emerges from their room in Ena's dream.
Trailblazer, as a post from Tumblr user apricops:
"the narrative: *starts the third act by repeating a scene from the first act but now it has a totally different context*
me: "ohoHOhohoHOHOhoHO"
Misha, as a post from Tumblr user primitivisms: "i'm in the wrong realm and i think everyone can tell"
Gallagher, as a post from X user BrotiGupta: "a SPECIAL place in hell? for ME? that's actually really thoughtful"
Boothill, hanging from the top of a tower, overlooking Penacony's sweet dream with the grand theater glowing far off in the distance.
Boothill, as a post from Tumblr user bewvitched: "a single distant, but very loud, yeehaw"
Boothill's face edited atop a photo of someone's shadow. From their outline, they're clearly wearing a cowboy hat and western pants with fringe. The tips of their black pointed boots are visible on the ground. The photo is captioned "saddle up homos, we got a war to win"

I feel like a lot of people misunderstand one of the key points of Sunday’s story. It’s about how one man’s utopia is another’s dystopia. Ideals can’t really be “right” or “wrong”, but if you apply any of them on a large-scale and take away flexibility/exceptions then the flaws are quickly revealed. Sunday isn’t the bad guy for trying to make the world a better place, but he IS the bad guy for forcing his perfect paradise onto everybody else regardless of what they think is best for themselves. The guests and citizens of Penacony didn’t actually consent to the Sweet Dream because they aren’t privy to the same knowledge of the Express + friends, and quite a few aren’t even sober! It’s like offering somebody candy and then secretly saying that eating it is consent to move them into your neighborhood LOL.

Penacony is classic sci-fi, taking things we know and pushing them to the extremes. Sunday IS the antagonist and he IS the villain. He’s a not-so-subtle metaphor about what can happen when there’s corruption in a religion. As they say, “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.” (And I’m not ignoring Gopher’s manipulation here, but that’s a separate discussion from Sunday’s role in the story. We’re meant to sympathize and understand Sunday, but we can acknowledge the circumstances and STILL disapprove of his decisions.)

Somebody whose ideals clash with Sunday’s will naturally want to fight him on every level, even if they understand where he’s coming from. Being angry or disgusted at Sunday is just as reasonable as sympathizing or connecting with him. ┐( ̄ ヘ ̄)┌
