Côte de Grâce, Équemauville, France: The Côte de Grâce owes its name to a shipwreck that could have cost the life of a Duke of Normandy, Robert the Magnificent. When he was caught in a terrible storm, he swore that if he survived, he would have a shrine built on the hill he could see from his boat, to thank God for helping him. Robert the Magnificent did indeed survive and kept his promise by having a chapel built on top of the hill in the early 11th century, at an altitude of 90 meters above sea level. The chapel survived the centuries until it was swept away by a landslide in the 16th century. A second chapel was then built, the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce chapel, which still exists today... Honfleur, Normandy, France: Honfleur is a commune in the Calvados department in northwestern France. It is located on the southern bank of the estuary of the Seine across from Le Havre and very close to the exit of the Pont de Normandie. The people that inhabit Honfleur are called Honfleurais. It is especially known for its old port, characterized by its houses with slate-covered frontages, painted frequently by artists.
