- Helaena Targaryen madness -
it would be interesting to see how the loss of their son brought helaena, usually in her own world, back to reality, but forced aegon, who mostly avoided being alone with himself, to withdraw into himself.

Queen Helaena Targaryen
Commission for @DaTeamGreen on twitter
I'm obsessed with Alicent, Helaena, and Jaehaera. None of them wanted to be queen, none of them liked it or chose it (if we're going by show version) and the cycle didn't break until Jaehaera broke their entire line.
[every action has consequences]

The gardens of the red keep are the only place in kings landing where you feel at somewhat peace, where you’re not weighed down by politics, it’s the only place where you and Helaena can love freely without the prying eyes of the court.
You watch in admiration as the Princess Helaena scans the pages of her encyclopedia, how her face lights up when she turns to a page about her favorite little critter or how she smiles gently as she reads new information, you couldn't help the slight stutter of your loved filled heart as you took in her beauty, the way her hair framed her pretty face, how her skin glows beneath the afternoon sun and the gold that was woven through her blue dress brought out the color of her eyes, you sigh lovingly, how can someone be so perfect?
"Good afternoon Princess Helaena" you tease bowing at her as she chuckles at you softly, rolling her eyes at your silly antics.
You were highborn yourself, and your house has supported house Targaryen for generations you had grown up in the red keep as a result of this and you often found yourself thanking the gods, old and new, for granting you with such luck because without it you would have never met your lovely Helaena.
"Good afternoon my butterfly" she smiles gently as you take a seat next to her on the blanket she had neatly placed down over the lush grass, the princess leans into your side placing a quick shy kiss on your cheek before quickly busing herself with her book.
“No need to be shy now Helaena” you giggle tucking a stray piece of her soft blond hair behind her ear as your thumb gently grazes her pink cheeks, “No one is around” you whisper as she leans into your touch.
Helaena doesn’t mind it, your gentleness has always brought her much comfort, so she finds herself filled with want and desire when your lips finally find hers, so much so that she pulls you closer, she doesn’t want to let go, ever.
However the kiss comes to a soft end, the both of you smiling widely with pure joy, “Before I forget— I had a jeweler make this, for you” you softly whisper suddenly feeling awfully bashful as pull the small velvet bag you kept hidden beneath the many layers of your dress.
“You didn’t have to” she giggles as you insist, urging her to open the small purple bag, you watch as her nimble fingers pull the string open how she ever so carefully takes out the Valyrian steel necklace, gasping softly at the butterfly that adorns the chain and the beautiful blue Larimar gemstone that sits within the wings of the insect.
You smile as she gently caresses the charm between her thumb and forefinger, “It’s beautiful— thank you dearly” she whispers as you shuffle closer to her, telling her how happy it made you happy to see her smile, “Would you?” She asks handing you the necklace.
“I would be glad to my dear love” you take the butterfly necklace from her warm hands as you move to sit behind her, gently moving her hair to one side of her shoulder bed draping the Valyrian steel around her neck gently, your fingers grazing against her skin ever so slightly as goosebumps raided her skin, closing the clasp you sit in front of Haleana, and suddenly your breath catches in your throat.
The way the steel shines in the afternoon sun, how the blue of gemstone in the shape of a butterfly glows against her collar bones bringing the beautiful color of her eyes out, she’s so ethereal it makes you completely breathless, you can’t help but feel a little flustered at the sight of your beloved Haleana.
“You are simply breathtaking my lovely” you gush kissing her pink cheeks, her hands coming to cup your face.
“As are you my butterfly” she smiles giddily at you before enclosing her lips on yours, bringing you into a sweet heavenly kiss.
She lays down on the blanket, her head resting against your lap as she hands you the book she was reading, “Read to me?” She asks with a hopeful look in her eyes.
“As you wish Princess,” you say taking the book from her and reading about all types of facts about different insects, here in the gardens of the red keep everything is perfect, no bother with politics just your love for each other.
If the people of the faith looked down on your and Helaena’s love then why did the gods make it so sweet?
The gardens of the red keep are the only place in kings landing where you feel at somewhat peace, where you’re not weighed down by politics, it’s the only place where you and Helaena can love freely without the prying eyes of the court.

Parallels in "A Targaryen Type of Madness"
🚩Spoilers for my fic🚩 “I will be a good ruler.” (Part 1)
She had tried being the Queen of her dreams, now she would be the Queen they deserved. (Part 29)
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Rhaenyra’s gloved hands gripped the reins, her knuckles likely turning white at the action. She withdrew a shaky breath. Then the princess screamed. Her dragon, feeling her rage, roared at the moon. She continued to scream until her throat felt sore. Syrax stopped soon after. (Part 2)
The tears stopped flowing from her eyes and were left red in their wake. Her hair was disheveled. While her dress was wrinkled and dirtied. She gritted her teeth and screamed. Rage and betrayal filled her being. She collapsed on her knees still screaming out.
Somewhere in the distance, Syrax roared. The dragon feeling her rider’s anger as well. (Part 29)
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
“I go where you go, Princess-” His eyes widened as his mouth gaped open. “Forgive me, My Queen, I get the titles mixed over time.”
Rhaenyra’s smile only grew as she held back a laugh. “I forgive you, Ser Robb. You’ve been in my service for many years and knew me when I was the princess. You don’t ever need to apologize to me for such as small thing. It is forgiven, always.” (Part 15)
He shuffled where he stood. His eyes finally saw hers. She saw them wavering unusually. He seemed confused when he saw her.
“Princess Rhaenyra….”
His knees then gave out. He collapsed on the sand with a dull thud .
Rhaenyra threw herself on the ground and cradled his head. “Ser Robb. Ser Robb.”
His eyes were open but nothing was behind them. No soul was left. (Part 15 Continued)
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
She stroked the ring on her left hand. The band was gold with a brown stone in the middle. She had it made after her son was born. The colors of House Bracken were a tribute to his father’s family and the ones her husband wore with pride. (Part 4)
Alicent leaned back against her seat rubbing the newest ring on her finger. It was settled on her left hand with a pale white gem. She had it made when Aegon was two months. Now it would rest close to his older brother’s ring. (Part 10)
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
In her dreams, Rhaenyra saw dragons flying in the sky. It was more dragons than she had ever seen together in her life. Their brilliant colors contrasted against the deep blue sky. Both massive and tiny, they circled each other in a dance. The dragons roared into the heavens all at once. Flames of different hues tinted the air. Red, blue, and green. (Part 5)
Helaena swallowed. “Spools of red, spools of black are woven. Six suns will pass, before the dragons’ dance above the stone. Dragons of bronze, dragons of silver, dragons of smoke, dragons of death, dragons of sheep, dragons of grey, and dragons of blood. They too will join us for a dance.” (Part 28)
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
“I could never forgive you. Not when you abandoned me.” (Part 6)
Yet, this is how they repay her. They all abandoned her. (Part 29)
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
“Aemond! Look what Mother just gave me!” Luke exclaimed...“Yes. Mother said it's been passed down from Targaryen to Targaryen over the century. She told me it was given to great warriors of each generation.”
Aemond stared at the heirloom. Great warriors? But he was the best one in their training. He was the one who studied under Criston Cole for a while, then Harwin Strong, and most recently his guard Brynden Storm. He was the one who stayed after training ended to continue practicing. He was the only one who was even passionate about the sword, not his brothers. (Part 19)
“Is that…” Alicent drifted off.
“Dark Sister?” Aemond asked.
“I thought since Rhaenyra already had Blackfyre, she wouldn’t mind if I took this one.” Dyanna smirked.
Aemond slowly picked up the blade. With a quick motion, he slid the Valyrian sword out of its sheath. He stared at it with excitement in his eye. It had a black grip with gold on the end of the grip and the sides. The gold turned upward in the form of a flame and a red gem decorated the middle. It was long. In Alicent’s mind far too big for a child. But Aemond didn’t hold it like a child. His hands seemed to know how to carry it and wield the longsword. (Part 28)
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
In front of him, slept a curled-up Vhagar. With the light, he could see the colossal dragon. She was as big as a small castle and her wings would easily be greater than that. Her scales were green and decorated with countless scars and wounds from battles she had seen in her youth. Though her skin seemed to flake in certain areas it only demonstrated her vast age. Her mouth was massive and he imagined how easy it was for her to devour an entire horse without swallowing. Her upper lip was slightly raised, presenting her deadly teeth. Rows and rows were lined inside her mouth with each appearing sharper than a Valyrian blade.
Aemond stared in awe. She was the most majestic dragon he had ever seen. (Part 19)
Alicent turned to the massive dragon. Her scales seemed to be decaying and she wore scars all over her body. Her eyes seemed as though they had no pupil, just a yellow abyss. Her teeth were long and went along the entirety of her huge mouth. (Part 28)
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
“I can go next”, Aemond suddenly declared.
Criston looked at the younger boy. “Very well, Prince Aemond.”
“But no mannequin. I want to fight you”, Aemond said. (Part 18)
“Do you even know how to use that?” Criston asked.
“Come closer and you’ll find out”, Aemond warned.
“This isn’t training, boy.”
“Good.” (Part 28)
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
“I’m sorry I couldn’t warn you.”
“You couldn’t have known Helaena.”
Her pale eyes shifted nervously. “I did. I did but I can’t…”, the girl gestured with her hands vaguely. “Articulate it in a way that people can understand.”
Lenora stared at her. “What do you mean Helaena?”
“No one understands..” (Part 21)
“Have you had any dreams?” Lenora asked.
The pupils in Helaena’s lilac eyes dilated. Her lip quivered. “You know?”
“I do.”
…Helaena smiled gently. “Thank you for listening.” (Part 28)
Character Posters from my fic "A Targaryen Type of Madness" ft. The Kids
Dragon-Shifter Rhaenicent AU Lore
Original AU is this post for context
Despite the fact that they had come to Dragonstone two hundred years following the Doom of Valyria, the name Targaryen was not one known by the people of Westeros. House Targaryen was the only family of dragonlords to escape the Doom with the blood running through their veins giving them the ability to change from man to dragon. The people of Westeros had seen dragons flying above the sky on the island but no one dared to get close. Over time, that became the story, dragons lived on the isolated island. No men. Just dragons.
The humans in Westeros have thus given names to the dragons they have spotted over the years, unaware of the other form laying in wait underneath the scales.
Rhaenyra Targaryen is the eldest of her father, Viserys, the self-proclaimed king of Dragonstone. Her mother died in childbirth when she was quite young. Her father's hasty marriage only a few months later caused her to run away, during this period many humans reported sightings of her near Oldtown. The realm knows her as a somewhat small curious yellow dragon named Syrax.
Aegon Targaryen is the eldest son of Viserys, king of Dragonstone. He and his younger siblings are the product of Viserys' second marriage to a human woman. While rare, these unions would take place if no other female dragons were alive. Aegon has rarely flown to the seven kingdoms in years after his mother's death. The realm knows him only as a beautiful golden dragon named Sunfyre.
Helaena Targaryen is the second daughter of Viserys Targaryen of Dragonstone. While her mother was human, Helaena is the only Targaryen who has the gift of prophecy, a rare but valued trait in dragons, though there are times she keeps these prophecies to herself for unknown reasons. The realm knows her as a quiet pale blue dragon named Dreamfyre.
Aemond Targaryen is the second son of the king of Dragonstone, Viserys. During a flight, a then-young Aemond was attacked and shot in the eye with an arrow, the injury left him without an eye in his human form, as a dragon he kept his eye intact but is still blind in it. The people of the realm fear him as a massive disgruntled dragon named Vhagar.
Daeron Targaryen is the youngest child of King Viserys Targaryen. Unlike his siblings, he doesn't remember his human mother and this fuels his curiosity about humans. He and his half-sister Rhaenyra venture to the realm most often compared to the others in House Targaryen. Humans know him as the swift cobalt blue dragon, Tessarion.
Viserys Targaryen is the fifth king of the Targaryen dynasty in Dragonstone, while his ancestors came two centuries ago they had not cemented themselves into the world of man until Aegon the 1st. Viserys took the Lady Aemma to wed but following her death in childbirth, he swiftly stole away a lady from the reach to marry. The decision came at the cost of his relationship with his eldest child, Rhaenyra, and the death of his second wife after years of being miserable, cost him his relationship with his other children. He has not been named by the realm as he has not been spotted by humans.
Literally what I thought watching this scene:
Helaena: I’m afraid.
Aegon: Don’t be. They’d be fools to come with Vhagar protecting the city.
Helaena: Not the dragons…the rats.
Aegon: Okay babe that didn't really help elaborate anything
Helaena Targaryen
Helaena: Aegon annoyed me today, so I told him I can’t wait to see what he has planned for our special day tomorrow.
Aemond: ... There’s nothing special about tomorrow.
Helaena: Ah, but there is something special about watching the colour leave his face as the panic takes over.
