Gorons - Tumblr Posts
this is the reason why i love yunobo a lot thank you for reading my mind
tell us about yunobo
why's he ur funky lil guy
id love to hear why
This is a very good ask I don’t think I’ve ever actually told anyone why I like Yunobo so much
Preemptive spoiler alert for both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom by the way
(Also this turned into a bit of a character analysis on Yunobo I’m so sorry it’s so ridiculously long lmao)
Personally my favorite Zelda “race” or whatever has always been gorons, huge fellas who mine rocks and eat rocks and are rocks, just big ol walking boulders with kind souls, I think they’re very silly and cute. But I really like Yunobo because he’s not really like any of the other gorons (He’s not like other girls!!), because he’s so much more… emotional? I guess? In each of the Goron race’s appearances throughout the Zelda games they’re portrayed pretty much the same way, either tough and brave and heroic (Like Darunia, Daruk and Darmani), or chill and generally nonchalant (Like… pretty much every other goron). Though they are kind and playful, they’re also tough and unmoving as stone. Yunobo (on a surface level), is neither of these things. When you first meet him in BotW he runs and yelps in fear, and a great portion of the fan base calls him a coward because of this. He’s very unsure of himself, and unsure of a lot of things in general. In the artbook “Creating a Champion”, his description is as follows:
“Yunobo is the grandchild of the Champion Daruk. He has an adult body but still has some growing up to do. He is easily frightened by monsters and isn't exactly what one might call brave, but, driven by thoughts of protecting his people, he gathers enough courage to aid Link in quelling the Divine Beast Vah Rudania. He is earnest and naive, readily believing nearly anything anyone tells him.”
So yeah. He’s a scaredy-cat. He’s a pushover. He’s incredibly naive and a bit childish.
AND YET.
He helped save his people, and the entirety of Hyrule… TWICE. Because he is brave. Bravery is not an immediate heroic desire to face any danger for the sake of the greater good.
It is action in spite of fear.
He is afraid. He’s unsure, and he’s flighty, and he’s defensive. But he swallows these fears and chooses to act in spite of them, helping link to take back control of Vah Rudania, and saving his people. For me, seeing the journey Yunobo takes to find his courage is a lot more satisfying than if he were just already a brave go-getter from the moment you meet him.
And then things get even more interesting in the second game (again, spoilers for TotK ahead).
After he helps Link take back Vah Rudania and Calamity Ganon is defeated, Yunobo goes right to helping his people recover from the the post-calamity craziness. He’s incredibly devoted to them. He’s a helper through and through, willing to do anything it takes for the sake of others. His loyalty knows absolutely no bounds. But unfortunately, this can get the better of him.
Like when his good friend “Zelda” shows up and gives him some weird mask and tells him to put it on.
Honestly, when I saw Yunobo for the first time in TotK, I was one of the many people who was terrified that Nintendo might have made him an asshole for no reason. I mean, they gave Sidon a wife so people would stop shipping him with Link, I wouldn’t put it past them (totally backfired though lol, now they’re just a polycule).
But instead they had actually put him into one of my favorite character tropes: self-conscious but good-natured character easily susceptible to corruption (See: Luigi [SPM], Bolin [TLoK], Locksley [AS:TNC] -they’re all also green for some reason? Crazy). I really like this particular trope because it shows the very real (and frankly scary) way that those with the best intentions can most easily be led astray. As someone who’s kinda struggled with having a people-pleaser personality (incredibly susceptible to peer-pressure, neglecting my own needs over the needs of others, not able to set boundaries, etc), this trope is a relatable cautionary tale for me. Those who just want to help more often than not end up helping those with bad intentions without realizing.
Buuuuut I won’t go too far into all that (it’ll get sad fast eugh)
My main point is that Yunobo is brave, kind, and loyal (even to a fault), and for me that’s a wonderful formula for a character as nervous and dopey as him. Yeah he’s got rocks for brains, but he’s got a heart as big as a lynel’s. I don’t throw this term around liberally but I would say he could definitely count as a himbo.
Ugggghhh this is getting too long ffs. I’ll just list a couple more reasons why he’s important to me specifically.
He is… very large. Ahem. I like big fellas. You know how it is. ANYWAY
He’s a bit dopey but he’s definitely not incompetent. He’s the president of a highly successful mining company and he’s helped save Goron City (and the entirety of Hyrule) TWICE. That’s pretty cool. I’ve seen a lot of people shit on him in the first game for “always getting spotted by the drones” but like. Dude that’s your fault. He told you he would come when called and stop when told to, it’s on you if he walks into a searchlight.
He’s got very intriguing lore (to me at least), that leaves a lot of room for speculation. Like, he’s the “grandson” of Daruk, but how does that work?? Gorons are born from the mountain itself, they don’t give birth. There’s a pair of Gorons in TotK that call themselves “brothers” (still a bit confusing since most gorons throughout the series call each other brother anyway), but they explain it was because they were born in the same cave at the same time, so they’re like family. Does this mean Yunobo was just born in the same cave Daruk was, and therefore inherited his “genes” and his magical abilities? Maybe! Maybe it’s a really cool special cave, right at the summit or something, where his whole lineage was born all the way back to the first sage of fire. Cool stuff to think about!
He’s not the leader of his people, in either game. That job belongs to Bludo. In the second game he’s definitely got a lot more influence and does occupy a position of leadership, but he’s not the chief. He’s just some Goron. The role of aiding link in both games is thrust onto him entirely because of his lineage. But he takes responsibility for it. He understands the power he holds, both as a champion’s descendant and as the Sage of Fire, and he steps up to the role. He feels a responsibility to his people and his city, even despite not being its official leader like the other champion’s descendants. That’s pretty cool.
He’s very sweet! I’ve talked about how kind and caring he is already but there’s a difference between doing it with a stoic sense of heroism or duty, and doing it with a big dopey grin and a genuine care for those he cares about. He’s often unsure and self-conscious, and yet he’s surprisingly optimistic about most things a lot of the time. He has a big smile (most gorons do), but he has an absolutely heart-melting laugh. I often tear up during the cutscene in which he sees the spirit of Daruk reclaiming Vah Rudania, him laughing and waving with such genuine joy and excitement, aghhhh it’s too much. Joe Hernandez certainly did a great job putting authenticity into Yunobo’s (and Daruk’s) emotions, this cutscene especially.
He has the best secret stone ability (gameplay wise). You cannot change my mind. Tulin is great for mobility and the other two are fine for tactical combat stuff, but none of them even come close to the versatility and power of Yunobo. Don’t have any good rock-breaking weapons and don’t want to use up bombs or zonai devices? Yunobo! Using a control stick-operated machine and can’t pull out your bow to snipe that pesky aerocuda? Yunobo! Wanna separate a big group of enemies from each other without wasting bombs? Yunobo! And don’t even get me started on the fact that when he’s on a vehicle, he’s got zero cooldown. You can hop on a hoverboard and decimate a molduga just by dribbling Yunobo on its head like a basketball.
All this being said I certainly think Yunobo is too often overlooked by fans for “being a coward”, or just… being a Goron? Gorons in general have often been a bit neglected in favor of the other more serious, conventionally attractive and *cough* slimmer *cough* Zelda races. It’s a bit disheartening seeing the amount of fan artists who don’t even have a clue how to approach drawing Yunobo or Daruk, simply because they don’t know how to draw bulky, fat or muscled characters. But I won’t preach too much on the subject, haha.
Long story short, I love Yunobo a whole lot and I’d love to give him a big hug and a smooch. That’s about it :))))
Also here’s a little sketch I made of him as a bonus for reading all that haha
I wasn't the only one, right?
Do you think you could take them? yeah they aren't that big.
Oh, you mean fight? No.
Saw this idea in slasher fandom and decided that it suits here. Love this guys ❤
JoJo + Yunobo
I don't know if anybody had this thought too, but I was thinking about drawing this one since I first saw him in game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
🫠I want him to hold me like that...
According to old post of @imaginethezeldaverse
I made myself a hair clip 🙂
Can I give them a squeeze? Please?
I don't know if anybody thought about that but...
Not my boy

Warnings! Mention of drugs? (Like... Marbled Rock Roast), Yunobo wearing mask, a little rude Yuno, totk spoilers
I think that's all! Enjoy!
You ran home as fast as you could, wanting to snuggle up to your goron boyfriend as soon as possible. You've missed Yunobo incredibly, your kind, gentle goron.
You've been gone for a long time. The journey to your native village to your family took longer then you thought it would and when you came back you didn't understand anything. You got that something was wrong when, in the middle of the day, during working hours, one of the gorons was sitting on the ground. His eyes are red, and he keeps himself sitting only with help of the wall behind him. He didn't respond to your attempts to talk to him, so you decided to run to the city and call for help.
Goron City didn't look good either. Everyone is tired-lookig, and Bludo you met on the way only got worse with his back.
Old Goron just explained what happened. He told about new version of Rock Roast, about how the behavior of the Gorons has changed and about what happened to Yunobo.
Yunobo is the kindest and most sympathetic goron you've ever known. Your dear boyfriend. But the way Bludo described him doesn't look like him at all... rude, loud, boorish... This is not your Yunobo. Bludo also mentioned something about a mask...
"Try to talk to him. Maybe he'll listen to you..."
The old goron said with a heavy sigh.
And you immediately went to him, to the mine where he is now. Where he takes Marbled Rock Roast.
He was there. But it's not your Yunobo. Not the Goron you fell in love with.
"Hey! I told no one but me to come in here!" The young goron shouted at the whole mine, heading towards you with fast pace.
You crossed your arms, waiting for him at the exit with a frown on your face.
The president didn't keep you waiting long, stopping right in front of you with a smirk. His eyes seem to burn red under that damn mask.
"Welcome back, Goro! Oh? What's with the face? Aren't you happy to see me?" Said goron taking you by the chin.
You couldn't believe it was him. That the one who stands in front of you is your once gentle goron, who was afraid to hurt you and did not touch you that confidently.
"What's going on, Yuno? What's with the city? Why are the Gorons in such state?" You said, removing his hand from your face. His hands seemed unbearably hard for you right now.
Yunobo frowned.
"The Gorons are in perfectly fine. But there's something wrong with you"
You look at his displeased grin. His eyes shine with a dangerous flame, not the soft fire that you are used to.
"You're not Yunobo..." you said through your teeth.
Your boyfriend's face is twisted with anger.
"And what do you mean by that, huh?"
"That there's something wrong with you! Take your mask off!"
You reached for the mask, but he grabbed your wrist, squeezing it tightly.
"Don't touch... pf... Something wrong with me, Goro? With me?! You've been in your village for longer than you promised! It's not my fault that you missed all the changes! And now it's my fault?!" The young goron shouted angrily.
The skin on your wrist started to turn red from the way he squeezed your hand, forcing you to close your eyes.
"Stop, it hurts!"
Tears rolled from your eyes. Your gentle goron would never do that. He's not the one you love so much... Not your boy...
"Oh no, honey, that's not how things are done"
He sounded annoyed. Pulling you by the hand, he put you between him and the wall. One of the hands slid down on your thigh, squeezing tightly so that you would not have the opportunity to leave. He leaned forward, trapping you between his muscular body and the mine wall. The other hand stopped on the wall next to your head. A sneaky grin spread across his face. He leaned forward, whispering in your ear. His warm breath burns the skin of your neck, and no amount of Fireproof Elixir will help.
"We have to catch up on everything you missed during your absence, don't you agree, dear?"
Ah well... Requests are open.

Sorry for any mistake you could see. I finished it late at night before sleep and I will look through it again soon. Promise :) P.S. Already did, but still sorry if left anything wrong here.
Warning! Angst, mistakes during text, short
He was your friend. The best friend you could ever dream of. You've always wanted you to be something more. Maybe the couple that younger generations would laugh about and older people would smile sweetly at. Or maybe even a family. A happily married couple, with a couple of kids who look like both you and him. But you never had the courage to admit your feelings for the champion of the gorons. Daruk is blind to these things, he did not notice those little touches, blushes and smiles that you gave him. He didn't understand that you felt something for him, but he didn't want to spoil your friendship either.
Daruk was rarely in such a state when he did not know what he wanted and wasn't sure of the clarity of his mind. But with you. When you were laughing together or sharing stories that happened while he was training in leading Rudania, and you were doing your own business. Every time you awkwardly bent over, inadvertently showing off more than you should, he would blush like crazy man and turn away.
At such moments, he got lost, strayed from the path he wanted to follow with you. Daruk was worried that you were making him feel feelings that he had never thought existed among gorons.
But he didn't want to ask for help. The Great Daruk decided that he would figure it out himself.
Calamity has come. You never told him how you felt, but you swore you'd tell him when he would come back after the fight. So did he.
You and the gorons watched as he entered the divine beast. No one then could have imagined that the indestructible goron warrior would never leave the mechanism again, along with the rest of the champions.
You've been waiting. You was ready to wait as long as it would took to tell him something important.
And Daruk fought. Fought fiercely not only for the sake of duty, but also for your sake. Just to tell you 3 simple words that would make you dance with joy.
But that didn't happen.
None of you had time to say these seemingly simple 3 words to each other. For all the time that you've been around, you haven't been able to. And now. Being on 2 different sides of the same world, you regret that you did not say them. None of you could have guessed that it was mutual. But you don't care. You just want to relieve the weight that hung on your heart.
It is painful for you to see Rudania. It hurts to look at the huge mechanism walking on the volcano. After all, your heart felt that he was still there. Still inside, separated from the others. Alone.
And then finally you decided to confess.
The pain in your chest was unbearable when you made a flying flashlight and lit a candle inside sending it into the sky.
The flashlight flew up to Rudania, which was frozen at that moment, and landed right on her roof.
The spirit of the champion appeared nearby. Daruk bent down to examine the object that was in his beast - the prison of his soul.
On the side of the flashlight is your signature and one simple phrase that made the great warrior burst into tears like a small child.
"I love you"
You can make requests if you have ideas, because I don't have those...
Great Daruk 😘
And yes. I am still in love, no one can make me feel something else for him.
Who fell first/who fell harder? Love language. Pet names.
Revali:
He fell first, but you fell harder. It wasn't obvious at first, but the way he looked at people, who you spend a lot of time with, who made you laugh. He was sooo jealous. Spinning around you, showing why he is better option then guy you just talked to.
His love language is quality time. He is ready to spend every minute with you, showing off or just talking. At first you will think he is just annoying as hell, but after some talks he would find way to make you comfortable. Even if it means that he should ask someone about things you like.
Pet names, huh? "Darling, sweetheart, little sparrow, birdie". (No one can change my mind:) And it doesn't really matter if you aren't rito)
Sidon:
You fell first, but he fell harder. This man told you about his feelings as soon as they appeared, so no way you won't know about that. And he never would be ashamed!
His love language is physical contact. Really. Every time you are around he is so touchy! Hugs, kisses, everything is here. He would literally hold onto your then he is sad. (You'll get double of that if it's Sidon+Yona)
Pet names are difficult... Probably "Sunshine, pearl, love, my queen" and something like that.
Daruk:
He fell first, but you fell harder. It's a little complicated with him. He fell first, but it took some time to understand that. Probably someone from his fellow champions pointed at his affection towards you (he talked about you so much that others knew your favorite color and what is your favorite place in Hyrule) and it clicked.
His love language is quality time. Literally spending every second of his free time with you! But of course if you are comfortable with that. He knows then to stop.
He uses: "love, babe, jem, sweet cheeks" as nicknames for you. Sometimes "honey bun", telling you that you are as sweet as one.
Yunobo:
He fell first and he fell harder. It's just the way he is. So sweet and cute. He cares about you deeply, and was so nervous to tell you what he feels, because he was scared he would ruin your friendship. (You probably was the first one to confess)
Gifts! And a lot! Yeah. His love language is gift giving. He remembers every little thing that you mentioned in your talks, or you looked a little too long at market. And he will get it for you! He wants to make you happy! But if you do the same he would be so embarrassed to take something from you!
Can "goro" be called pet name? I think yes. If we talk about another options... "Sweetheart, my love, ruby (Yeah. Goron Ruby), baby, sunshine" will work, along with every sweet name he would master at moment.
Female characters here!
And my requests are open!
I just want a strong goron to hold me in his rock-hard hands... Maybe warm bear hug...
Do I ask too much, universe??
Yunobo's first time
Why are everyone into main hero or main villain, and I am into character, who was dead from very beginning of story and not popular choice among other players? 🥲
And yes, I am about Daruk.
Maybe about other champions a little...
Lucky you
Pairing: totk Yunobo x reader
Warnings: none, I guess...?
'Dark.' The first thought that came into your head. 'Warm...' Was the second one. And then... 'Where am I?!' So... Congratulations! You woke up somewhere far from your home, or rather... You don’t even know where. It looks like someone's little house...
The last thing you remember is the endless climb up the mountain, which is painful to even remember. The climb turned out to be more grueling and longer... You ran out of the fireproof potion... From just the thought, your legs, head and back, on which you were wearing a heavy backpack during the climb, began to ache again. But now there is no backpack... No mountain ledges... There is not even a volcano. And more! You can't see anything further than the stone ceiling! And then... A sound reaches your ears... Someone is breathing nearby, a slight snoring, as if someone is sleeping.
Clenching your will into a fist and gathering your last strength, you roll over onto your side with a painful groan... Something heavy on your head... A helmet? Yeah... A helmet that the Gorons invented for the safety of the Hylians on their territory.
Peering into the darkness of the room, you saw a Goron. Supposedly your savior...
The guy was sleeping curled up in the corner of the room... Looking down, you realized that you were lying on his bed. He gave it to you... How sweet...
Goron looks young by the way. A small beard and white hair on the top of his head. He would look very cute if we weren't almost twice your size, even when lying down...
It seems like you heard about him somewhere... Exactly! Your travel buddies used to talk about it. If you're not mistaken, his name is Yunobo. And he is the sage of fire, something like the chief of the city and the owner of main mines, if the stories of your comrades are true. Or something close ta least... He is also a descendant of the Goron warrior who controlled Divine Beast. What was his name again... Daruk? Yes exactly! Descendant of the Great Daruk who piloted Vah Rudania. Where did the beasts go by the way...?
Well, that's not the point.
The attempt to get up failed. Your hands shake like a leaf in the wind and you fall back onto the bed with a loud bang and a painful cry. And you woke up the Goron. Great...
Yunobo sat down, rubbing his neck, apparently stiff from the uncomfortable position, and turned to you.
"Did you wake up?" He mumbles, rubbing his eyes to quickly get rid of the remnants of sleep.
You nod. “Yes...” Your voice sounds worse than you would like. Hoarse and sleepy. Even rather exhausted.
The Goron smiles a little. "It was probably stupid to ask when you were looking at me... Sorry, I don't think very well on first hour after I wake up... My name is Yunobo, by the way. Nice to meet you."
Requests are open if you are interested.
Hello friend! I have a request if you’ll take me up on it!
How would things go if reader tells Daruk they were in love with him?
Please & thank you 💕
Hell yeah! Wanted something sweet but didn't know what to write, I guess it's time!
The green valley shines under the rays of the midday sun, the leaves of the trees rustle because of the light breeze, and the flowers dance, shining with bright colors. And it was the day that you and your dear Goron decided to meet at. Daruk rarely left Eldin, but it's summer, which you've been so happily talked about. The sun is shining in the sky, making him squint.
He was used to the heat and the bright sun, but Death Mountain had never been so full of colors. Although he genuinely liked some of them. They reminded him of people he knows. Although he still thought that a good lunch would be nicer...
It wasn't too far to your meeting place anymore, he was already approaching the forest near the Great Plateau. Daruk had no idea why you choose this particular place to meet. Beautiful views are also can be seen from the mountains of the Eldin region! Why climb the plateau? But the warrior also knew that the Hylians were uncomfortable so close to the volcano, so he agreed. And to be honest, Goron understood that it was a long way from your village to here, too, so he could only guess how important it was for you. Maybe something happened and you need help? Or did you find something on the plateau and want to show it to him? Well... He won't know until he gets there.
Having already climbed the Great Plateau, Daruk looked up at the cliff in the middle of the plateau. You were sitting there, the sunlight enveloping your figure, forcing Daruk to cover his eyes with his hand. You always seemed soft to him. Well... Compared to him, all Hylians seem small and soft, but that didn't make him think of them as weak. Both you and Link, and even Princess Zelda herself, have shown him that the people of Hyrule are not as weak as they seem at first glance. But now, looking at you in your moment of piece, when you are so calm, just looking at the blue sky, enveloped in sunlight, he wants to cherish you. Just like the Hylians cherish their gods, how the Gorons sing of their heroes.... But unfortunately, it's time to interrupt your trance....
Oh... Your goron has come. Understood you when a shadow fell on you from behind, blocking you from the scorching sun.
"Hello, gemstone" Daruk said, sitting down next to you and looking at the landscape. He can see his home from here, Eldin...
"Hello, Daruk..." You whisper, looking at the landscape in front of you...
"So what did you want to talk about? I was worried." Goron said, turning to you. Your eyes are shining like the most beautiful gems he's ever seen....
You nervously bit your lower lip. Will he understand...? How to answer? And what if you ruin everything...?
"It's a beautiful view, isn't it? And you can see the Death Mountain..." You squeezed words out of yourself, calming your shaking hands.
Daruk chuckles, "It's really beautiful. But I don't think you dragged me out here to look at the landscape."
Doubts have always been your enemy, but under his gentle gaze they seemed to melt away.
"I am... I wanted to confess.... I know we've been friends for a long time, and you're practically like family to me, but... I.. I love you..." You could tell, you were blushing like a boiled crab.
Daruk froze. Now he looks like those little animals you saw in the forest, as if his heart stopped in his chest for a split second.
"I'll understand if you don't feel that way about me... I don't want to force you to do anything..." You added, seeing the nervousness on his face.
The great Daruk is not afraid of monsters or people, his only fear is dogs, and his weakness is you. Or can this be considered his another strong side? After all, he never considered you weak. At your first meeting, you quite successfully rebuffed a couple of bokoblins...
Daruk has never been too experienced in a serious relationship.... Same with declarations of love. He has experience with women's needs, but it didn't last longer than a couple of weeks... But you. It's different with you.
He knew that he loved you, he knew that he was ready to fight the most big dog for you.... But he didn't come to this right away. Without the help of his friends and fellow warriors, he would not have realized how he felt. But he loves you. Now he is absolutely sure.
Anyway, when you turned away, he couldn't help himself. Daruk grabbed you by the waist, and a bear hug crashed on you.
Pressing his face into crook of your neck, the Goron warrior began to speak with a wide grin.
"You know... I'm not very experienced in such matters, such serious feelings are rare among Gorons... But it feels right with you. As if that's the way it should be. So I think I love you too!" Goron proudly announced, hugging you like a plush toy, his voice and warm breath sending goosebumps down your spine.
You're laughing. "More than Rock Roast?"
"More than the juiciest rocks in the whole Hyrule!"
Write me if I didn't get it right and you meant that reader was into him some time ago, and now not... I am sorry if I misunderstood. I am open for requests.
