So, while I was looking up information about certain minerals that form certain popular gemstones (such as beryl, which includes aquamarine, heliodor, and emerald), I learned about trapiche emeralds. They're a rare type of emerald that is characterized by inclusions (foreign minerals or other things inside the gem) in a radial pattern, like the spokes of a wheel. The pattern is fixed, unlike the pattern (asterism) in a star sapphire, which seems to change with the position of the gem. However, you may sometimes find trapiche stones that have a cat's-eye effect (chatoyancy) in some of the radial segments, which looks super nifty.

There are other gemstones that sometimes show the trapiche effect: sapphire (and ruby), tourmaline, and quartz, for example. The process that forms trapiche crystals isn't clearly understood, but the results can be very cool.

The International Gem Society had more info and more pictures, if you're curious.

BOWYNN GODS: VELLA

BOWYNN GODS: VELLA

Vella (Vel-Lha)  Goddess of Jewelry, Gold and Silver Smithing. She is the daughter of Brea and Unthar and the sister of Panu. She is also the patroness of jewelers, jewel-smiths.

No know sacred stories of Vella exist. All that is spoke of her is that she wed the God Gondor and lives with him, Kalen and Panu in a grand yet simple smithy deep in the sacred forests of Alaway, where she crafts gifts for mortals and immortals alike. For mortals, these gifts will appear as a strange find in some manner or another.

Vella appears as young woman with black hair and light eyes. She wears simple clothes, as with those she resides with. His simple woven dress is said to be of an orange or rust color with yellow accents. In her hand she is said to hold pinchers or tongs. Sacred to Vella are all the tools a jeweler would use as well as gem stones, time pieces and or course incense.

The Goldilocks of Gold Crystalarium’s 22 Karat Collection

http://bit.ly/2vBIqt9

Why 22 karat, you ask? Well, it’s not JUST because it’s mesmerizing and opulent and 0h-so-very yellow. There is actually a very technical reason that 22k is a favorite here at Crystalarium: it has the perfect malleability for the execution of the most intricate and delicate designs. It is the Goldilocks of Gold. Pure gold is so soft that it can easily become warped just by wearing it; and lower karat alloys, such as 18 and 14k, are simply too hard to execute certain designs. 22 karat is juuust right.

Our 22k collection is characterized by extremely intricate metalwork- including filigree and granulation- a complex and painstaking process thought to have been developed in Sumeria over 5,000 years ago. The rings and pendants are designed here, but the metalwork is executed by craftsmen in Bali, home to some of the finest goldsmiths in the world. Once the pieces are completed they are sent to us and the original gemstones are then set by our jeweler.

This collaborative process has yielded the collection we are sharing today: a sumptuous assortment of dazzling and luxurious jewelry that is sure to captivate…
