Fandom Police - Tumblr Posts
“this ship is not canon” babe, they’re fictional characters. they’re not real. they’re literally dolls we play with. we don’t care about whether or not these fictional characters’ love story is canon in this piece of media that is also entirely based on fiction. I mean, sure, canon would be lovely, but it’s a bonus. it’s not necessary. what we care about is the fun of talking about these 2 idiots being in love.
we don’t give a fuck if they didn’t kiss in “canon”. they had raw sex in thousands of fics about them though. and I’d say that’s more than enough to make people who ship them happily ship them even harder. happy shipping!
“You can’t create OCs based on yourself!” fuck you, I can do whatever the hell I want. If I wanna write a fic where I’m BFFs with Alastor, I’m gonna do it. What are you gonna do? Call the fandom police?
You know, all of this hate or condensing attitude disguised over how people 'see abuse in media' over ascendant astarion is actually boiled down to "I don't like him and I don't want to see his content, so no one should have fun or do anything with him."
"I don't like this thing, so I don't want it to exist, regardless of other people decision and feeling about it." Which is the core of shipping discourse as well. People just adding fluff/moral discussion to the discussion because without moral soapbox no one will care
It's okay to enjoy different ending including ascension for Astarion and god gale
I have been seeing comments about how people are afraid of choosing and enjoying ascended Astarion or God gale ending because they are scared of ridicule, scared of being 'wrong' and afraid of offending abuse victim because they have seen so many negative discourse against those endings for Astarion and Gale.
Let me tell you, YOU ARE NOT an abuse enabler or offending abuse victim just because you like those endings, the people who accused you directly or indirectly of being wrong, evil or "too dumb to understand the narrative" or "delusional" are nothing but fandom police who try to manipulate and bend people to do what they wanted with fear using pseudo progressive language. They don't like content for ascendant Astarion and god gale so they wanted it gone
They do it like cult leader trying to control the population. And this is not a problem that is exclusive to bg3 only. It happening in many fandom. "I don't like this so I have to control people to not like this as well." This is the real abuse, this is the real manipulation tactic
What's matter in fandom is you having fun, not bending over to what the majority or some people wanted. Your moral and self worth shouldn't be tied to fandom and fandom discourse . You are fine, don't be scared of choosing different ending for these DnD blorbos
All the speech about concerning over moral or abuse is not real, it's just people on the internet doesn't like something and try to influence other to not like it as well. This also extended to ship
personally, I think people are allowed to ship a “toxic ship” as long as it’s fictional and they can separate fiction from reality. shipping a fictional “problematic ship” doesn’t mean you’re “abuse apologist” in real life. the same way people who enjoy fictional villains are not “murderers” in real life.
it’s okay if you think this ship makes you uncomfortable and so you personally dislike it. what you can and should do is avoid their contents and refrain from interacting with people who do ship them. that mute and block buttons are your friends.
what you shouldn’t do, though, is harass people who ship them and brag about how they’re “red flags irl” and how you’re “morally superior” simply because of fictional characters.
I promise you, minding your own business and not caring about what ship strangers on the internet ship will make your fandom so much less toxic and a whole lot more enjoyable.
what people think pro ship means: dangerous people who want to harm children in real life and/or think taboo subjects in real life are justified
what pro ship actually is about: the belief that people are allowed to enjoy fictional thing however they want, as long as it's fictional and no one in real life gets harmed or harassed in any way, and as long as they tag their trigger warnings properly.
most pro ship folks I've come across are just "hey, you like this fucked up thing that is fictional? okay, cool. you do you, man. I myself don't even like this thing that you like, but hey, it's not real. and I trust that you know the difference between fiction and reality, so you do you. if it ever gets too much for me, I will just block or mute you and move on with my life, but that doesn't mean I think you're a horrible person in real life because of the fictional thing you like, it just means I'd rather not see or engage with this thing that can make me uncomfortable. I still want you to have fun doing what you love, and I still think you're cool as fuck. love and respect, dude"
meanwhile most anti ship I've seen are like "omg you like this fictional thing where fictional children are harmed??! Red Flag Red Flag. put this gross piece of shit behind bars immediately!!!"
and I'm just ????? I don't normally engage in fandom wars, but I think, as long as you don't harass anyone in real life and as long as no one in real life is in danger or is harmed, how you enjoy fictional things is none of my business. and I'm not gonna make any "call out post" where I encourage my followers to harass you because you like fucked up fictional things that I personally don't like or believe is wrong either.
I mean, from personal experience, I was exposed against my will to thing I didn't want to see from anti's screenshot of fanart or fanfic where they encourage their followers to harass this person whose fanart or fanfic, that was screenshot and spread by them, was originally tagged properly with all the trigger warnings so that people who didn't want to see it wouldn't get exposed to it. until anti screenshot it and flaunted it around in the name of being morally superior while also, at the same time, advocated for the witch hunt against someone who just wanted to mind their own business. so... the irony. lol
fandoms used to be more peaceful before Fandom Police starts their witch hunting, but it's a good thing we can just block these people and keep on enjoying our blorbos however we want to enjoy them.
and I'll always encourage every artist to write whatever they want, draw whatever they want. don't let people who think they're "morally superior" tell you you can't make art this way or that way. my best advice would be to block and ignore and keep on creating what you want. they may be loud, but at the end of the day they're just noises and they're not worth your attention x
