When your game doesn’t have planned jumpscares or any scripted hostile encounters but it doesn’t remotely stop you from still having cinematic pants-shitting experiences
Subnautica creatures!
So I finally built a three-tiered Alien Containment in my Subnautica main base and have been hatching eggs. And I put in a really cool multi-colored egg that I couldn’t remember where I’d found it.
And it turned out to be a crabsquid.
It was tiny and obv. not aggressive (since I’d hatched it from an egg), thankfully, but it kept freaking me out every time I went into the containment tank, so I decided to… free it.
“It’s not aggressive,” I said to myself as I carried the foot-long crabsquid outside into the safe shallows. “And it’s tiny anyway.”
Apparently, when you release a tank-grown creature they uh, they grow immediately to full size.
So now there’s a 2-meter crabsquid roaming the safe shallows right outside my base, making its creepy noises and being generally horrifying. But it’s not attacking anything so… okay whatever. I feel a small affection for it because it’s not hostile and I’m all its ever known.
Some time later though, I hear the crisp, terrifying sounds of an electric nova, and I book it outside to find my dumb fucking crabsquid trying to take down my empty prawn suit.
And that is the story of how I had to take my repulsion cannon and yeet my poor tame crabsquid all the way to the grand reef like I was skipping rocks.
