jeon wonwoo + “when stars fall apart”
<500 | angst | avy’s october writing challenge
when stars fall apart– no, you think. stars can’t fall apart. they’re made of hot gas. you shake your head and try again.
when stars collapse and explode– yeah, that’s more like it– a supernova occurs. a big explosion, if you will, blowing away everything around it. a dying star.
you see remnants of a dying star, a dying light in wonwoo’s eyes, your reflection in the middle of it all.
you stare at each other in silence. you don’t know what to do; if you speak, you fear you might say things that would worsen things even more.
“hey, hey. why are you crying?” his voice is so tender and fragile, it almost makes you crumble. almost. you don’t even realise that tears are streaming down your face until you feel wonwoo wiping them away, damp fingers brushing against the apples of your cheeks.
you voice barely comes out as a whisper. “you’re leaving me.”
“i’m sorry.”
“you don’t even seem sad.”
he sighs. wonwoo’s shoulders visibly sag at your words. you averted your gaze, focusing on your feet to avoid meeting his eyes when he tilted your head up again, scattering the softest kisses everywhere on your face before landing on your lips. you feel his breath against you as he leans against your forehead, one hand cradling your face while the other grasps your tightly balled hands.
it takes everything in you to stop crying again then and there, lips trembling as you bite down on them. he kisses your lips again, and then once more on the tip of your nose.
the next time he speaks, his voice seemed to have dropped even more. a pained smile graces his face.
“this is how i cry.” he lets out a chuckle when you pout. “i’ll cry when i’m back home. until then, i just want to cherish our now.”
that triggers you to hit lightly at him. your clenched fists stay against his chest, his own hand enveloping yours. “jeon wonwoo!”
he laughs again. it’s wet, like he’s holding himself back. your eyes glimmer from the tears welling up again.
“i’ll miss you.”
your breath hitches in your throat. “me too.”
it’s silent again, the both of you basking in each other’s presence. then, you uttered the words so quietly, they nearly miss him.
“do you think… in another life…”
he doesn’t even let you finish. “maybe.” his eyes flutter shut. “maybe, if the circumstances were different…”
“…oh.”
suddenly, you’re pushing yourself away from him. you quickly wipe your eyes with your sleeves, before plastering a fake smile.
“um. have a safe flight, i guess.”
wonwoo opens his mouth as if to say something, hesitating before finally replying.
“thanks. get home safe, okay?”
“yeah, of course.”
and with a turn of your heel, a final twist of fate, you parted ways again– this time for good.
