“So her mom’s gone?” Wanda spoke sadly with a saddened look across her face.
“That’s what she said. Why wasn’t it in her file, Tony?” Bruce looked towards Stark in question. Tony wasn’t shocked by the news so he must of known.
Tony shrugged. “Peter said it’s a sore subject and that she likes to keep it to herself.”
“You did her a favor without even knowing her?” Steve looked shocked towards Tony.
Stark rolled his eyes. “I can do nice things for people believe it or not.”
“Who does she live with them?” Nat asked concerned about the teen girl she had come very close with.
“Yeah because if her mom passed and your names on the birth certificate. Shouldn’t the system have found you and handed you custody?” Clint wondered out loud looking towards Bruce.
Tony sighed, he knew more than any of them about her. He had Peter who never stopped talking about the Y/h/c-ed girl. “Appernalty her mother left a letter. She was sick for a long time and hid it for as long as she could. In the letter, she stated who she wanted Y/n to live with.”
That made sense to all of them. She passed not long after they had fought Ultron. Which would mean the Avengers had come together in 2 big televised battles. With the fact that Bruce also didn’t know about her not going with him was safer. She would’ve become a target.
“Who?” Banner asked wanting to know who his daughter is living with.
“May.” Happy spoke up from beside Tony. He had met her many times since he started dating May.
Clint held up his hand. “Wait-”
“As in Peter’s Aunt May?” Steve asked with a shocked expression.
“Yup. They’ve known eachother since they were very little. Y/n’s lived next to May for years, way before Peter’s parents died and he moved in with her. They would always play together when he came over to visit his Aunt. May would babysit her when she was younger. So naturally, y/n’s mother put her guardianship in May’s hands.” Happy elaborated, telling them more details about the situation.
“And now that two teens she’s in custody of are dating?” Steve questioned. Still in shock of that particular situation.
“They have separate rooms.” Tony rolled his eyes at how innocent Steve’s mind still is. Stark turned his attention toward Banner. “Look I don’t want to tell you how to parent your kid. But I do need to say, I’ve seen that relationship between her and Peter, and her and May. Don’t split that up. Get to know her, she can stay over here anytime. I’ll give her a room to call her own. But just don’t split up that makeshift little family apart.”
After Tony stated all that he left with Happy to go do some business. The other’s sensing the mood change left Bruce to his thoughts. Nat stayed behind for emotional support and he’d probably need to talk.
“Tony’s right. I shouldn’t come into her life and separate her from what she knows. What she’s comfortable and fam with.” Bruce said as he ran a hand down his face. This was a complicated situation.
“As much as I hate to say it, I agree. Tony’s right.” Natasha nodded agreeing with Bruce and Tony. Nat raised her hands up to rub at Bruce’s shoulders. “It wouldn’t be right to rip her from what she knows. It definitely wouldn’t help the two of you’s growing relationship.”
Bruce nodded coming to the same conclusion. “I won’t pull her from what she knows. Tony said he’d give her a room of her own so she can visit.”
“Then that’s what you’ll do.” Natasha smiled at him.
“That’s what we’ll do. You said you were in this with me, no backing out now.” Bruce smiled turning to look her in the eyes.
“Oh, no way am I missing out on this.” Nat smiled happily. There was no way she would miss out on this, plus Bruce needed someone to talk to and probably need some help. Nat shifted in her spot to face him completely. “Look Bruce, you know what happened to me in the RedRoom. I can’t have children no matter how much I want to. I by no means want to try and take her mother’s place. But I do want to bond with her as close as I possibly can.”

It has been now months that Burce and Y/n have known about being related. Months of getting to know the other and bonding. The two turned out to really like eachother and get along well. But Y/n had also been spending a lot of time with Nat. The two definitely liked eachother but Bruce didn’t know how or if the two would bond. They seemed to be but Nat had already set plan’s with y/n to have that bonding experience. An both were very excited, all they had to do was pack.
Y/n had been sitting in her room trying to pick what to pack for an hour now. Peter had finally come home from checking around the neighborhood so to say. May had told him what Y/n was and has been doing since he left after dinner. Peter decided that he might need to go check in on her.
“Hmmm. Hello Mr.Parker.” Y/n giggled greeting him as he walked over to her.
“Hello Miss y/l/n - Banner.” peter smiled teasing her. Y/n had taken Bruces last name a week ago. Hiphnating of course but he had been there a lot over the last couple of months.
“I thought it was only right, ya know? He’s been there a lot recently.” Y/n smiled at him.
Peter nodded in agreement. “He has. I understand Y/n, trust me I do. You just won’t have those last names for to many more years is all.” he wiggled his eyebrows playfully.
Y/n blushed at his words like every time he mentioned marrying her. Y/n smirked up at him playfully. “You know Peter Parker if you talk about us getting married someday all the time, I’m going to be very disappointed if you don’t follow through.”
“Oh, I’m gonna follow through. No way am I not going to marry you someday.” Peter stated with a huge grin across his face.
“Well, I look forward to it.” Y/n bit her lip pulling in an already leaning down Peter for a deep kiss.
“Are you excited for your trip with Nat?” he asked having been wondering about that for a couple of days.
Y/n shook her head in a ‘yes’ moton trying to contain her excitement and nerves. “Yeah. We’ve bonded a little bit but I think Nat and I are both hoping this girls trip will bond us more.”
“I think it’s cool that you’re getting close with Nat.” Peter stated, first he gets close with his hero Mr.Stark and now his long time best friend and girlfriend is getting to get close to her hero Black Widow Natasha Romanoff.
Y/n smiled nodding, it was fun getting to be close with the Black widow. “I do to. I mean I have Aunt May but she is exactly that. She’s been like a Aunt to me my whole life and I even call her Aunt May. But with Nat-”
“Its different.” peter finished knowing already how Y/n was thinking and feeling.
“Yeah” Y/n agreed looking down.
“May knows that. It’s ok to talk about Nat. May knows it’s different with her. It’s ok.” Peter reassured
“I just feel bad.” she nodded with a shrug.
“You don’t have to.” Peter brushed back a few strands of her hair behind her ear.
Y/n nodded softly looking up into peter’s eyes. “I know. I’m just trying to get myself to believe it.”

“You ready?” Natasha asked you as she walked into the Avengers compound.
“Yup. You?” Y/n nodded putting her hands into her pockets.
“Of course.” Nat nodded as well both with excitement in their eyes.
“You both heading out now?” Bruce asked entering the room as well. Most of all the Avengers were already in.
“Yes Bruce. An no you still can’t come.” Natasha rolled her eyes jokingly at his anxious behavior. They had been alone before just not for multiple days. Sleepover’s sure, girls night’s with Wanda as well. But not for days.
“We’ll be a fine dad. Jeez, don’t you trust us alone together?” Y/n added backing up the red-headed woman next to her. They had come together many times to mess with Bruce. But at that moment Bruce was still focusing on the fact she called him dad. Y/n had done it before but it still got him excited inside.
“I wouldn’t. They’re to much alike.” Clint spoke up from the kitchen
“It does spell trouble.” Tony agreed nodding along.
“Oh relax.” Nat rolled her eyes at them.
“Yeah, we’ll be fine.” Y/n crossed her arms over her chest.
After saying their farewells Natasha and Y/n head down to the garage, the car already fully packed up and ready for them. The two got into the car and headed off on their 2 week road trip.
They had been on the road for about 6 hours stopped for gas once and got lunch. Nat and Y/n had laughed, shared jokes, and sung to the radio. Both were having the time of their lives.
“Thank you for this Nat.” y/n said turning her head to look at the older woman driving.
“It’s no problem y/n/n. I enjoyed spending time with you.” Nat replied turning her head briefly to look at the young y/h/c-ed girl in the passenger’s seat.
“I enjoy spending time with you too.” Y/n smiled, happy that Natasha liked to spend time with her just as much.
Nat had noticed Y/n’s behavior the last week since they planned this trip. Y/n had been excited but Nat had picked up that a few days later there was an added emotion. Anxiousness. “If you ever need to talk about something- anything, I’m here for you.”
“Nat” Y/n spoke softly ringing her fingers in her lap watching the landscape pass by through the window.
“Hmmm” she hummed giving her a sign to continue and she was listening.
“Thank you. I know that my existence was a shock to my dad, and I’m sure to you as well. I’m sure it can’t have been easy on you. I mean-I’m also sure when you started dating Bruce you didn’t sign up to also help parent his kid.” y/n rambled, nerves obvious in her tone.
Nat pulled over the car to the side of the road. There were some things she needed to tell Y/n and some things they both needed to hear out loud.
“y/n. I may not have known about you, but neither did your father. Going into a relationship neither of us knew about you, and you didn’t know about us. We were all in the dark. But Y/n I wouldn’t change a thing.” Natasha reached over grabbing ahold of her hands. Facing the young girl giving her a smile with serious eyes. “I care about you. As if you were my own daughter. But I want you to know I in no way want you to think that I want or will try to replace your mom.”
Y/n smiled back having needed to hear all of what Natasha had said. But there was something else that Y/n needed to tell her, ask her and that Nat might need to hear as well.
“But, is it ok if I want to add you into my heart and life as my mom?” y/n asked looking up at her through her lashes. Not sure of what the ex-assians answer or thoughts might be so she continued. “I don’t want to replace my mom, and that’ll never happen. But she is gone and she would be ok with and want me to feel ok with calling someone else I find worthy of that title.”
“Of course you can.” Nat smiled a ginormous smile. That was so much more than Natasha could ever had hoped. Sure they had bonded, even more in the moment they just shared. But the relationship Y/n just asked to have with her was something Nat could only hope to have gained with the young girl.
This trip already had a great start to it. Natasha and Y/n leaned over the center counsel enveloping eachother into a tight hug that both really needed.

“So how’s it feel to be back on Earth?” Nat asked the youngest Odionson who was currently sitting at the breakfast bar in the Avengers compound kitchen. It had been a while since Y/n, Thor, and Loki had been to visit. And truthfully Natasha had missed the youngest Odionson. Y/n had missed her as well, the two having had become like sisters over the years.
“Awesome. I missed it here. Missed you guys.” Y/n smiled at the redhead and then to the others in the room. Y/n and Thor both love Earth and the Avengers are family to them.
“Well, we have a new addition to the compound that you only have met briefly before.” Tony stated telling the girl across from him, but by his tone, it sounded more like a warning.
“Who?” Y/n asked, tilting her head in a curious manner.
Before Tony could answer with a snide comment about the man in question Steve spoke up. “An old friend of mine.”
“Is it that guy- uh- Barnes? Wasn’t it?” Y/n snapped her fingers trying to remember.
“Yeah. How’d you know?” Steve asked with a confused expression about how she could have known that.
Y/n pointed towards the redheaded woman. “Nat took me to the museum about you and your team back then.”
“When did she take you there?” Steve asked slightly embarrassed. Of course, Natasha would take her to that museum.
“Nat shrugged her shoulders unaffected by caps stare, taking a sip of her drink. “Last time she was here.”
Y/n waved her hand towards Steve to get his attention. “So where is this Barnes? If I remember correctly he was pretty handsome.” She asked curiously.
Steve smiled at the goddess, he couldn’t help but think maybe someone else will be on Bucky’s side. “You’ll meet him later today.”
“You know what I’m also excited for? Last time I was here I heard of a holiday called Valentine’s day. That’s today right?” Y/n smiled bouncing in her seat. Wanda and Natasha nodded to answer her question, they had been the ones that told Y/n all about the holiday they celebrate on earth. Needless to say, it intrigued the young woman.
“What’s this Valentine's day?” Loki asked from his spot leaning against the far wall of the living room.
“Oh, brother it’s this lovely holiday here where people find love and get together if you know what I’m saying.” Thor smiled widely at their brother. He had celebrated a few Valentines day’s with Jane before while on Earth. Of course, the others jumped in to tell Lokie it wasn’t just about what Thor was implying.
While everyone was talking about Valentine’s day which did in fact happen to be today Steve went to go tell Bucky that he’ll be meeting someone new later in the day.
“Hey.” Steve spoke standing with his hands in his pockets in Bucky’s doorway.
“Hey, Punk.” BUcky greeted looking up from where he sat on his bed tying his boots. “What's up?”
“Well Thor and Loki are back and they brought their sister. You haven’t met her before but you will later. Just wanted to warn you.” Steve told him. He thought Bucky should know that there was someone he hadn’t met in the compound.
Bucky nodded appreciating the heads up. “Does she have any powers like them?”
Steve nodded in confirmation. “Yeah, she controls elements. Mainly one’s that involve heat. Fire, Lave, etc.”
Bucky nodded acknowledging that he heard him and in thanks for the information. It wasn’t but an hour or two later that Bucky and Steve joined the group back in the common room.
It didn’t take but one long look for Bucky to notice the new face in the room. “Who is that?”
Steve looked in the direction Bucky was looking in. “That’s who I was telling you about. Y/n Odionson.”
“That’s Thor and Loki’s sister?” Bucky raised his brows looking at her.
“That's the one.” Steve nodded
“She is. . . “
“What Buck?” Steve asked turning his head in his friend's direction.
“She’s gorgeous.” Bucky stated gulping. He hadn’t felt this way since before everything.
“She is very beautiful.” Steve had to agree, the girl is a literal goddess. He turned his head in a quick snap towards his friend with a shocked expression. “Wait a minute. Bucky, are you-”
Bucky nodded with his mouth still agape. “Punk, I think I-”
“Hey! You must be Barnes. I’m y/n.” Y/n introduced herself holding out her hand. Even though she cut off the super soldiers' conversation she hadn’t heard any of it. Which gave Bucky some sense of relief.
“It’s uh, nice to meet you. You can call me Bucky.” Bucky reached out to shake her hand as he looked at her more closely. He didn’t think it to be possible but she was even more beautiful up close.
“Bucky. That's from your middle name, right?” she smiled repeating his name before asking about it.
“Yeah, it is.” he nodded answering her question even though he was pleasantly shocked about her having known that.
Steve looked between the two and could read that they didn’t need him. So he patted Bucky on his shoulder and gave Y/n a smile and left the two alone.
“So my sister and your friend with the metal arm?” Thor hummed as Steve came to stand next to him and Loki. Thor had watched the whole exchange between James and his sister before Steve left them.
“It seems so.” Steve answered as he as well as Thor glanced over to watch Y/n and Bucky move over to the couch to sit.
“I like him. He seems like an honorable man.” Thor smiled taking a gulp of his drink.
“He is.” Steve nodded.
Loki rolled his eyes at his brother and the star spangled man. “He’s a trained killed. Is that who you want our baby sister to be with?”
Steve let out a sigh and had an annoyed look in his eyes. Turning to face the long black haired trickster. “Loki, he’s changed. Wakanda fixed what HYDRA did to him. Besides he didn’t have a choice when he killed all those people. Unlike you.”
With that, Steve gave Thor a tight smile before heading over to chat with Nat and Clint. Leaving the brothers to chat amongst themselves.
“The stars and striped man is right brother. Besides, look how happy they both seem.” Thor stated as they both glanced over to their sister.
Loki scoffs. “Yeah, till she realizes who he was and what he’s done.”
At least that's what Loki would like to happen but even he knew that was not likely. Y/n didn’t care about things like that, she wouldn’t care about Bucky’s past. She cared about who he is on the inside.
“Brother at least he could protect her better than any other mortal.” Thor countered.
“A single redeeming factor.” Loki grumbled shaking his head. No one was ever going to be good enough for his little sister.
“Strong, kind, protective, handsome- not as handsome as me but that’s to be expected.” Thor smiled shrugging his shoulders.
“Ever the modest one.” Loki rolled his eyes as he said his ever so sarcastic comment.
“Oh always.” Thor smiled oblivious to the fact it wasn’t a compliment.
“So I take it your onboard with the metal arm as well? He’s attached to a piece of machinery. And an exassaisn.” Loki turned his head to face Thor instead of watching his sister, closely.
“An you wear horns. Besides from what my friend Rabbit says that arm is cable of extraordinary things.” Thor smiled at Loki giving him an amused look.
“Oh I’m sure.” Loki spoke completely annoyed at the conversation and situation.
Thor nudged Loki, a little to hard. “Lighten up brother. He could be good for her after everything they both have been through. Besides, it’s Valentine's day.”
Loki had to admit he hadn’t seen Y/n that happy in years. She really did look really really happy. Maybe he could be good for her.
Later that day, well it was night now. Most of the Avengers were out at dinner with their wives or dates. Some were still at the compound. Y/n and Bucky had talked practically all day. Nothing could separate the two of them. Not till they both got hungry and Bucky suggested that they should pick up some take out. Y/n nodded and went to talk to her brothers before they leave, having sensed them watching.
Which gave Steve a moment to talk to Bucky. So he moved to sit across from Buck, trying to hold back his smile. “So, you and Y/n?”
“Punk.” Bucky grumbled but couldn’t keep his face neutral all he could do was let the smile break out across his face.
“Oh, come on tell me.” Steve let out a light laugh. He hadn’t seen Bucky like this since the ’40s. It gave him some relief.
Bucky shook his head laughing happily with a huge smile on his face. Looking Steve in the eye’s he stated. “I think I’m in love.”
“That's great, Buck.” Steve smiled at his best friend. He was happy that Bucky seemed to have found someone. An on Valentine's day of all days.
“So you and Bucky-” Thor started, wiggling his eyebrows ready to tease his little sis but Y/n cut him off.
“Thor-” Y/n whined knowing he was gonna tease her.
“More like her and a trained killer.” Loki cut in. He would tease her to right along with Thor. But Loki was always more protective of Y/n than anyone else. He won’t stop till he’s long dead. For real dead.
“Guys!” Y/n spoke up louder than before stopping both of them before they could say anymore. Looking at both her brothers with love in her eyes and pleading with them. “Please give him a chance. I think I might love him.”
Thor and Loki were silent for a moment before Thor clapped his hands together happily before pulling her into his side. “We will. Won’t we Loki?”
“Hmmmmhmmm.” Loki mumbled in silent agreement. It didn’t mean he wouldn’t be watching James Buchanan Barnes closely.

“Hey.” Nat said upon seeing Y/n enter the common room. Nat didn’t think they were expecting her to come by today. Not that she couldn’t drop by anytime.
“Can I talk to you for a sec?” Y/n asked fidgeting. Nat could tell she was nervous and maybe even upset. She noticed that the young girl's eyes seemed red and slightly puffy.
“Yeah, sure.” Nat nodded getting up from talking to Wanda on the couch. Nat had shared a glance with Wanda and she gave her a nod sensing the young girl's distress. SO Nat took Y/n down the hallway to her room so they’d have some privacy to talk. “What’s going on?” she asked once the door was closed.
“Me and Peter, we got into an argument.” Y/n snuffed, looking down to her lap as she sat on Nat’s bed. Tears welling in her eyes.
“Oh, honey.” Nat gave her a sympathetic look before pulling her into her arms for a much needed hug.
“It was so stupid.” she mumbled into Natasha’s shoulder. Y/n could barely remember what originally started the fight. It was stupid and maybe even a little petty.
“You and Peter have a strong bond, Sweetheart. I’m sure you’ll make up in no time.” Natasha stated rubbing her back to soothe and comfort her.
“I hope so. I do truly love him, I can’t lose him.” UY/n nodded at the older woman’s words, hoping to God they are true.
“You won’t Y/n/n. That boy loves you more than anything. Just give it time hun.” She gave her the best advice she could. But now, now it was time to distract her and take her mind off it. “Why don’t we get in some lounge clothes and watch some movies or t.v. shows huh? What was that new show you wanted to watch?”
“Pam and Tommy?” Y/n questioned
“Yeah, that. Because the actor playing Tommy looks like Bucky you said?” Nat asked with furrowed brows and a smile.
“It’s a creepy resemblance, I’m telling you.” Y/n laughed with wide eyes before they both headed to get changed into some more comfortable clothes.
After they both came back into her room the two moved over to the couch t.v. area in Nat’s room. Y/n turned on the new Hulu show and the two took their minds off anything other than the show in front of them. Y/n shifted halfway through the third episode to look over at Natasha.
“What honey?” Nat asked having noticed Y/n shift to look at her.
“Thanks, mom. For everything.” Y/n smiled leaning against her again. She knew what she called her, it felt right. She thinks her blood mom would approve of Nat.
Natasha smiled almost letting a few tears out. She could never have kids of her own thanks to the red room. But she hoped she could have some type of similar relationship with Y/n. She never expected her to call her ‘mom’ or anything but hearing it. That warmed her in ways she couldn’t even explain. “Your welcome sweetie. It's no problem.”

I've been wanting to request a Marvel one for a while now, but have just finally thought of something that I agreed on—
A oneshot with the avengers and the genderless reader celebrating their first birthday. Like where they came from, birthdays don't exist, the actual celebration and having a date of being born doesn't exist for them.
I'm also only familiar with the movies so I don't know what actually happened after Endgame— So spoilers outside that would be very appreciated if that's alright—
True meaning behind birthdays
Pairing: Avengers x gn!reader (platonic)
Summary: Reader comes from a planet where birthdays don't exist. The others decide to throw the best first birthday party ever for them.
A/N: I made this story so that it doesn't contain any spoilers. I really hope you like this, I tried my best.
Y/BD - your birthdate
Earth didn't have the best reputation among the other planets. Everyone you knew always told you it's a place not worth visiting. But that didn't stop you.
And oh wrong they all were. Sure, Earth didn't have the most impressive technology, but it compensated for it with many rich and diverse cultures. So many nationalities and religions, each celebrating their own holidays and traditions. Sure, some might say that it was impractical for so many cultures to live alongside each other, but you thought it was fascinating.
You've been on Earth for over half a year now and you already knew about many human customs, yet there was still so much more to learn, since they mingled with each other constantly, for example holidays typically celebrated in the U.S. migrated all the way to middle Europe.
However, there were some events that were celebrated by everyone. Like New Years Eve, when humans celebrated their planet's complete rotation around the Sun. Silly creatures. And the biggest catch? Different people celebrated New Years on different days!
You chuckled at the memory, focusing on your previous activity. You were relaxing in the compound's living room, since there weren't any missions that regular S.H.I.E.L.D. agents couldn't handle on their own.
You were soon joined by Tony, a very extravagant and bold man, but still a very friendly colleague of yours. He scooted over until he was sitting next to you and asked "So, how did you enjoy Nat's birthday party?"
Ah, birthdays, of course. Celebrating one's day of birth every year was something all humans did as well. The concept was very foreign to you, I mean, why would anyone celebrate being one year closer to death? Still, you could not deny that you enjoyed yourself very much.
"Are you asking just because you organized the thing?" you asked back with an arched brow. Tony looked at you as if you grew a second head "Y/N! You know I'm better than that!"
"But...did you like it?" he asked after a few moments of quiet. You laughed "Yes Tony, I really enjoyed the party." You could practically see his face light up like a Christmas tree (another thing you discovered during your time here) "Awesome! Say, when can we celebrate your birthday?"
Oh... "Uhm, well, I don't really have one..." you explained. Tony's eyes widened "What do you mean? Everybody has a birthdate!" he chuckled, but his tone was mainly confused. "Well, yes, of course I have a birthdate, but where I come from, birthdays aren't really a thing. We don't celebrate them or even really acknowledge them." you shrugged.
"Well, when is your birthday?" Tony asked. You thought for a moment, before replying "Well, we don't really divide our days the same way you humans do. You would describe someone's date of birth with the day, month and year, whereas we just describe it with the position a certain set of constellations has in the sky at that moment. You'd be surprised how accurate it is." Tony blinked a few times "Yeah, that doesn't clear it up much." You laughed again.
For the next couple of minutes you tried to explain to Tony how it all worked, using "your" constellation as an example, not knowing about the plan the genius playboy had in mind all along.
After he told you he finally understood what you meant, he promptly excused himself, saying he was actually just taking a break from something he and Bruce were working on. You said your "see you later"s and parted ways.
As Tony entered the lab, Bruce, who has been working on their project when Tony had his break, looked up to see who came in, before turning back to the machine set on the working table in front of him. "Hi Tony." he muttered "Did you enjoy your break?"
Tony walked over to his friend and leaned on the table he was working on "Yea yeah. Listen, I have an interesting idea..."
It took a lot of math and research, but after a few days, the two geniuses finally had it. They managed to convert your birthdate from your people's system to theirs and it was supposed to be on Y/BD.
Which was gonna be pretty pretty damn soon.
So they did the most logical thing. They called a secret Avengers meeting to get everyone in on the plan.
"Are you sure they even want a birthday party?" Steve asked, because the last thing he would want to is to make you uncomfortable.
"Of course, you know they like to be involved in everything." Wanda reassured him with a wave of her hand. "Still, I think we shouldn't throw a big party." Steve muttered. "I agree, it's their first birthday, we wouldn't want to overwhelm them." Vision nodded. Tony sighed and slumped in his chair dramatically "Ugh, okay then. You guys are no fun, I swear..." straightening up once again, he eyed everyone seriously "Okay, here's the plan..."
And what a plan it was. Wanda and Vision were in charge of making a birthday cake, Tony and Nat were in charge of the alcohol and your favourite drink. Thor was in charge of getting your favourite snacks, Bruce and Sam were in charge of decorating and that left Steve in charge of taking you somewhere nice until the others had everything ready.
It wouldn't have been that odd for someone from the team to ask you to hang out, but you couldn't help but notice Steve's eyes darting around almost as if in fear. He must've thought he was being sneaky, but that couldn't be further from the truth.
But once you were out of the compound, you could feel Steve relax as he took you to a restaurant that quickly became your favourite after a few weeks of staying with the Avengers.
You two had so much fun, talking about anything and everything. One thing you had in common with the captain was your love for exploring. Of course, he knew much more about Earth than you, but he still missed nearly seventy years. You two would often share your favourite music or artists you discovered, as well as movies or literature.
"What do you think about birthdays Y/N?" he asked you out of the blue. It caught you off guard a little. Just a few moments ago you were discussing if Disney was a good brand or not and now this...Especially when you discussed birthdays with Tony just a few weeks ago. Strange...
"I think it's fascinating how you humans find so many things worth celebrating. I mean, birthdays are a little hard for me to understand, why would you want to celebrate getting older? I thought that humans wanted to avoid that?"
This answer seemed to throw Steve off his rhythm for a bit. "Well, it's not really about that-" he wanted to explain, but was cut off by a buzzing sound. Steve quickly reached into his pocket, taking out his phone, the culprit guilty of disrupting your conversation, checking the text message he recieved, before putting it back and looking at you again "Sorry, Fury needs me for something. Do you mind if I drop you off and then go?"
You were a little sad that your good time had to end so soon, since you both were having so much fun, but you knew it couldn't be helped, so you just shook your head and smiled.
As you made your way back, you turned to Steve again "So, what did you want to tell me, back at the restaurant?" you tilted your head to the side.
Steve almost started talking again, but before any sound could escape his mouth, it seemed like he changed his mind "Would you believe me if I told you I really don't remember?" he chuckled awkwardly. You couldn't help but squint at him. He was acting very suspiciously... "Yeah..." you answered absentmindedly. Just what was going on?
You spent the whole journey back to the compound mulling it over in your head. Was it somebody's birthday? No, surely they would've told you if that was the case. Was it your birthday? But, nobody knew when that was. So what on Earth was going on??
You decided you were gonna confront Steve if he wasn't going o explain anything by himself. So as soon as you were about to pass the compound's living room, you quickly tugged him in, telling him you needed to talk to him before he had to go.
The room was darkened, somebody must've drawn down the blinds. That didn't matter to you in that moment, you wanted answers. Steve became a silhouette in front of you, so you couldn't see his exact expression. You looked into what you imagined were his eyes, and with the most serious look you could muster you said "Alright Steve, quit joking around. What is happening?"
But before your interrogation could progress, the blinds were drawn up and the room was suddenly bathed in light as people yelled "Happy birthday!!!"
You whirled around and saw everyone gathered in the living room, standing around the coffee table, upon which were various snacks that you grew to love during your stay here, complete with your favourite drink, and in the middle of it all sat a beautiful cake. The room was decorated with ornaments in your favourite colours and everyone had a big smile plastered in their face.
Well, you certainly did not expect that. After carefully looking around at everything, you couldn't help but laugh "So it's my birthday??" you asked, surprised.
"Wait, what did cap told you?" Tony asked, alarmed. "Well, nothing specific, but he wasn't subtle either." you smiled and looked at the now blushing Steve from the corner of your eye.
The rest of the day was great, possibly the best one you've had here. Good food, drinks and laughter all around. It warmed your heart to receive so many beautiful gifts, words couldn't express just how grateful you were. One thing still nagged in your brain though...
All of you were seated on the various sofas and armchairs around the coffee table, calmly chatting about beloved memories, exchanging funny stories and everything was heavenly peacful.
"I still can't wrap my head around why you would go throuh all the trouble for me." you shook your head, the disbelief still lingering in your mind.
"Well, that's simple. We like having you around." Tony shrugged. The others nodded. "Yeah, we appreciate having you with us. You're a great friend." Wanda added. "Celebrating birthdays is like showing gratefulness that the celebrated person is still with you." Bruce explained.
Their confessions were so heartwarming, you couldn't help but to shed a few tears. Sam, who was sitting next to you, put his arm around your shoulders, rubbing your arm comfortingly. So that's what birthdays were really about...
It was great to have friends.

The Date- Steve Rogers Imagine (Compromised Part 5)
Steve Rogers x reader
Summary: Steve and Y/N continue their date
You looked up at the large building that Steve had lead you to. ‘So this was where you lived?’ Steve nodded and looked down at you. ‘And Bucky lived here too?’ Again he nodded his eyes still on you as you stared at the building in front of you. Steve had been giving you a tour of Brooklyn. ‘In all my years coming here, I have never taken the time to enjoy it’ You turned your head and looked up at Steve. He smiled down at you and you couldn’t help but smile back. ‘Thank you for showing me the city’ He laughed as he turned you and you both began to stroll down the street again. ‘I have not showed you the city Y/N’ You shrugged. ‘You insisted that I only show you the places I used to be’ Yo beamed and leaned into him and placed your head on his shoulder. ‘I want to know Steve Rogers. I have met Captain America and I have fought by his side. I would like to know Steve Rogers’ You heard him chuckle.
Looking up you found him smiling again. ‘You mean the Steve before all this, not me now’ He mused. You nodded as best you could. ‘Yes, the Steve Rogers before all that’ He tightened his hand on yours. ‘Then we should make our way back to the car, I want to take you somewhere’ You felt excitement rise in your chest. ‘Where?’ He chuckled and shook his head. ‘Oh come on Steve, please’ You whined and leaned closer to him. He looked down at you through his lashes. His eyes roamed your face as you widened your eyes looking up at him.
You hated surprises, even though today had been fun, you still hated them. In your line of work surprises were never a good thing and you had been thought that since you could even walk. Surprises=bad.
In the short time Steve had known you he had never seen this look on your face before. He remembered the first time he seen you. Your eyes were hardened beyond anything he could have thought possible, even for Hydra. Yet you had still saved his life. Even on missions you had a hardened cold look, one he never even seen in Nathasha.
Now to look at you he wouldn’t even think you were the same person. There was a light behind your eyes and it seemed to light up your face. He couldn’t resist the smile that came onto his face as he looked down at you. ‘We’re going for dinner’ He breathed with a smile and watched the relief flood your eyes.
You took your eyes away from him and leaned your head on his shoulder. ‘Lunch and Dinner’ You giggled. ‘Steve Rogers you’re spoiling me’ You pretended to swoon raising your hand to your forehead. You hadn’t felt this happy in years, for as long as you could remember. You actually felt a little normal, like you were just another person walking down the streets of America. Not a professionally trained assassin who worked for an evil organisation for a good chunk of her life. You felt normal, minus the gun strapped to your thigh, and the knife bracelet Tony had given you, and the knife strapped to your other leg.
The small diner on the edge of town looked old, well you guessed it would be. ‘This is cute’ You smiled up at him. The waiter met you two in the doorway and lead you to your seats giving you the menus. ‘Anything you like?’ Steve asked after a moment’s silence. ‘The double cheeseburger with bacon and pineapples’ You beamed. ‘I haven’t had a cheeseburger in years. And never with bacon’ You glanced at him over the menu to see him smiling at you. ‘What?’ You smirked. ‘I thought you assassins were supposed to eat healthy. Nat does’ You shrugged. ‘Well, I’m on a date, if you can’t have a cheeseburger on a date then when can you’ He nodded and looked back down at him menu. You closed yours and laid it on the table.
Watching him you felt a smile pulling at the edge of your lips. After a moment he put down the menu and looked towards you. ‘Decided on what you’re having?’ You asked and he smiled nodding at you. You put your elbows on the table leaning on your palms. ‘Now, tell me more about this Steve before the Captain’ You smiled. Steve leaned back in his chair with a small chuckle. ‘I’ve told you my whole life story Y/N. Tell me about yours’ You raised your eyebrows and opened your mouth a little. ‘I guess that’s only fair’ He nodded and leaned forwards. ‘I’m from Russia’ He nodded as if that was a given. ‘My Mother and Father were both assassins as well and as soon as me and my brother and sister could walk we were being trained’ You shrugged. ‘We were sent away to a government facility when we were 14 and that’s the last I really ever seen of them, apart from my brother. I did a few missions with him’ You looked away from him and around the diner. ‘As far as I know Mother and Father are dead, I do not know where my sister is and I believe I heard one of my brother’s missions went sideways’ You felt Steve wrap his hand around yours. ‘I’m sorry’ He whispered.
You shrugged looking back at him, his blue eyes shining as he watched you. ‘They were blood not Family Steve’ You sent him a soft smile. ‘Sometimes the two things are completely different, Nat is my Family. Always has been, since we were paired on that mission’ You squeezed his hand. ‘You weren’t in the same facility?’ Steve questioned and you shook your head. ‘She was in the red room. I was in a different one, my one was more focused on’ You paused taking a breath, you knew Steve wouldn’t be very impressed with it. ‘Mother and Father trained in the same place, it was where they met, they were paired up on missions and they were a good match. They were strong and had good bloodlines’ You shrugged. ‘They weren’t in love it was a marriage of convenience, to get the best next generation of assassins’ Steve had a hard look in his eyes and his brows furrowed a deep crease between them. ‘Nat’s facility was about this generation mine was about making the best assassins they could. Anyone who wasn’t good enough was sent to hers’ Steve’s thumb rubbed across the back of your knuckles.
He grunted. ‘So that’s what you were supposed to do? Find a partner, have kids and send them off to be the Next Generation of Assassins?’ You nodded and smiled at him. ‘Your past is a lot happier than mine isn’t it? Nat is the closest thing I’ve ever had to family. On our first mission she risked her life for me, it was the first time anyone had ever shown that kind of compassion for me and it meant a lot to me, so I stayed with her. They weren’t happy with it. I was supposed to be with a man, not Nat’ You squeezed his hand and he reached out and traced his fingers along your cheek. ‘But whenever they paired me with one it always went badly, so they left it. Decided they would just set us up outside of the missions’ And then you shrugged leaning into his palm.
He sent you a soft smile. ‘What can I get you two?’ A sweet voice came from beside you. The older waitress what standing looking at the two of you with a fond smile on her face. Steve pulled his hands away from you and you both leaned back. The old lady continued to look at you two fondly as you ordered and told you to have a great lunch when she took your menus and left. ‘She was sweet’ You beamed after her. ‘You talk about your past in the same tone you order your dinner’ Steve cut in. You looked back at him. He was watching you with disbelief in his eyes. ‘It’s the way I was raised Steve, I’m not going to cry over it. I like to think even though that was my upbringing I still turned out okay’ You avoided his eyes and he reached out. He slipped a finger under your chin tilting it up making you look him in the eyes. ‘I’m sorry, Nat speaks of hers the same’ You nodded. ‘She had it worse, at least I had a chance at a family, I still do, well I have the choice’ You smiled at him slightly. ‘Let’s move on’ You took his hand from your chin and slipped your fingers between his.
He smiled and nodded. ‘Were you born with your powers?’ He asked but you shook your head. ‘Nah, that was when a mission went wrong and Hydra tried to keep me alive, it worked and I got these powers’ You smiled and leaned towards him ‘It was actually my own machine that I designed myself, it wasn’t supposed to be used yet, and it definitely wasn’t supposed to give you control of electrical impulses, it was just supposed to keep you alive’ Steve leaned closer to you. ‘So you like building things? No wonder you and Tony get along so well’ A smile spread across your face when he mentioned Tony. ‘He has some amazingly cool stuff in that lab, and those suits are really a work of brilliance’ You shrugged and leaned back as the waitress came with your food. You thanked her as she smiled at you both making a comment on young love causing Steve’s cheek to turn a dark shade of crimson.
Steve covered your eyes as you got out of the car. ‘Steve’ You chuckled. ‘I can still hear’ Excitement was running through you and you were sure you knew exactly where you were. ‘I know, but I seen this in a movie once’ That made you laugh louder as he lead you forwards. These were sounds you hadn’t heard in such a long time, since you were about four, and even then your Father had dragged you past and you had left it behind. ‘I’m praying it’s what I think it is’ Your hands gripped his wrists as he stopped. You could feel his chest pressed against your back as you felt the excitement bubble inside of you. ‘Ready?’ You nodded quickly. ‘Okay, surprise’ He took his hands from your eyes and you squealed.
Before you lay a carnival. All the lights lit up the dark sky above it. You turned and threw your arms around Steve’s shoulders feeling like a kid on Christmas. He made and ump and wrapped his arms around you patting your back. Oh my god’ You squealed pulling away from him jumping up and down a little. You felt like a little kid again. ‘Thank you, thank you’ You beamed at him.
Steve just looked at you with wide eyes. It looked like he really didn’t expect you to react like this. ‘I’ve never been to a carnival before’ You whispered turning back to the lights and music. Steve took your hand and threaded it through the crook of his arm. ‘Never been to a carnival?’ You shook your head your eyes wide in awe. ‘Then let’s go doll’ Steve guided you through the gates.
It was two hours later and you were holding a large teddy, which Steve had won you, under one arm and candly floss in your other hand. Steve’s arm was loosely thrown around your shoulders as he took a bite out of the sugary treat in your hand. You giggled at him as he smiled and pushed it in his mouth missing some. Your eyes landed on the small sugary whisp that had stuck to your dates plush bottom lip. You giggled and he raised his eyebrow at you. ‘You’re forgetting a little bit’ Your own tongue ran along your bottom lip and he looked confused for a second before doing the same. He smiled shyly as he realised what was wrong.
You placed a kiss on his cheek with a giggle. ‘Can I be cliched?’ Steve whispered after you finished the cotton candy. You bit your lip and nodded a little. ‘How about a ferris wheel? A date wouldn’t be complete without a ferris wheel.’ You hadn’t even noticed him leading you to the large bright wheel covered in lights in the middle of the carnival. ‘You mean you’ve based this entire date on the movies?’ You chuckled and he blushed again. ‘This is my first date, that I had to organise’ He shrugged but you leaned into him. ‘I’m not complaining’ You muttered as the line moved forwards.
When you reached the top the two of you climbed into the car. It rocked slightly but it didn’t matter to either of you as you sat down. Steve wrapped his arm around your shoulders and you leaned against him. ‘So Rogers’ You smirked and you felt him shuffle a little. ‘What do they do now?’ He chuckled and pressed a kiss to the top of your head. ‘They usually wait until they conveniently get stuck at the top’ You let out a small chuckle and leaned away from him your eyes meeting his.
He smiled a little his eyes soft. ‘Do you really thi-’ You were cut off as he leaned forwards his lips pressing against yours. You felt your lips form a small smile as you wrapped your arms around his pulling him closer. One of his hands tangled in your hair and his other arm slipped around your waist pulling you closer. You own hand tugged on his hair and he let out a groan and you opened your lips. He pulled away breathing heavily.
You smiled. ‘I think we should do this again’ You giggled at his statement. ‘The date or the kiss Steve?’ You breathed leaning your forehead against his. He smiled. ‘Both’ He breathed before leaning back in.

Pieces Welded in Gold (Bucky Barnes x Reader)
Words: 2.6k
Warnings/Themes: Self-hate, sad!bucky, angst, fluff, comfort
Characters/Pairing: Bucky x reader, Steve, Nat and Wanda (Mentioned), Tony (Mentioned)
She was too good for him.
This is something he had in his head from the moment he had met her. She was a light in everyone’s lives, whereas he was just a pathetic excuse for an Avenger. It took her and Steve months to get him pardoned and then even more months for him to be accepted as an Avenger. Not that he blamed the people they had worked against. He has done so much damage in his unnecessarily long life.
So watching her now, laughing and smiling brightly with Natasha and Wanda, Bucky felt like some ghostly shadow that drifted solemnly down hallways, wondering if he was ever going to feel worthy of love.
The glass of champagne in his hand was set down on a passing waiter’s tray as Bucky excused himself from the group of men he stood with. They had all been talking of some heroic thing Steve had done on their latest mission. And while Bucky was extremely proud of the man Steve has become, he couldn’t help the jealously that rose in his throat. Like ichor that threatened to drown him in resentment. He wouldn’t allow it.
“Everything alright, Buck?” Steve, of course, was the first to stop the conversation and give his best friend his undivided attention.
“Yeah, pal. Just feeling a little empty, gonna go fuel up.” To others, it might sound like Bucky was just hungry, but between the two, it was a code they came up for when Bucky’s social bar was low. It was weird… it used to be Steve having to step away and Bucky making sure he was okay.
The ichor rose to the back of his mouth. Without giving Steve a chance to say anything else, Bucky paced off to the hallway where the elevators were. The grief of his old life and who he used to be hanging over him like the grim reaper.
He made it after skirting along the walls, avoiding prying eyes. Not that anyone would really look at him right now. They were all too busy celebrating something going on with Stark Industries that he had not bothered to remember.
Bucky was barely through the door of the apartment he shared in the Compound with Steve, when he began stripping out of the suffocating suit he had been required to wear. The jacket was haphazardly hung on the hook, mostly thrown at the wall it was on. The polished loafers were kicked off and left to trip anyone who walked through the door.
He entered his room with his button-up undone and his pants barely hanging on his hips. He finally discarded the rest of the clothes in a wrinkled pile in the corner. With a huff and a heavy plop, Bucky collapsed onto his bed in only his briefs. Getting up to shower and put proper clothing on felt like a mountain he didn’t want to climb right now. So he just laid there on his stomach, staring out the window and the fireworks that Tony had arranged.
He wondered if she was out there enjoying them. He knew she liked things like that. She had once told him in the dead of night in a Wakandan hut of all the things that felt otherworldly to her. Like fireworks. Or libraries. Bowling Allies after hours. Abandoned malls. Or her living room at 3am.
She promised him they’d go to places like that when he said he wished he wasn’t here. Just to disconnect for a while, to forget his problems and just feel like he was someone else. Someone that wasn’t the Soldier, or a younger version of him. Not even him right now.
It was at that moment that he knew he loved her. She was here to help him through the problems he was facing, but she also understood that sometimes he didn’t want to try. He just wanted to float away. And she helped him do that, safely.
He truly felt like he was floating when he was with her. Tied by a string to her wrist so he wouldn’t drift away. And she didn’t seem to mind it. In fact, whenever he was near her, she would always subconsciously grab his hand. Or when he sat next to her on the couch, she would always move closer until their thighs were pressed together.
In a small part of his mind that still held optimism, he hoped that she did this because she also felt that if they were apart then she would combust. Since he met her, she had always been a comfort to him, she was there when Steve had found his apartment in Bucharest. She stopped him when Zemo had activated the Soldier by using her abilities. And she was there in Wakanda.
The one thing he doesn’t know, however, is why. Why is she doing all of this for him? Why does she seem to care so much about him? Steve, he gets because they’ve been friends since diapers. But she didn’t know him before Bucharest.
She had him feeling every emotion known to man, but he couldn’t find a way to tell her any of it. He could pour his heart out about his frustrations on his past, on how he misses the 40s, on how he felt like a burden to everyone. But when it came to owning up to his feelings about her… he froze. How could he not? She was everything.
Bucky rolled over onto his back and rubbed at his eyes, trying to dry the tears that didn’t seem to stop coming. The fireworks continued like bombs on the battlefield. His gaze was fixed on a random speck on his ceiling. His mind felt sluggish now and his eyelids struggled to stay open, even as tears still fell.
He must have dozed off at some point as now his eyes flickered open at the sound of shuffling outside his door. The fireworks had stopped, and the air was still and quiet. Steve must have just gotten in. The sound of the shuffling sounded like his gait and weight.
With a groan, Bucky lifted himself onto his elbows to look at the clock on his bedside. Two in the morning. A late one for an old man like Steve. Must have been having a good time then, seeing as how Bucky left the party around 11pm.
A shower was sounding more appealing now that he had released his emotions and slept some. He rose from the bed and hobbled over to the attached bathroom. He didn’t bother looking at his appearance in the mirror; he already knew he looked like shit.
Y/n wouldn’t think so, a tiny voice said in his head. She’d probably say he looked like someone who has lived a lot. Too much, would have been his reply.
He took a lukewarm shower and spent too much time under the spray, pretending that the water running down his face was only that. Not a mix of salty tears that apparently hadn’t run out. Once he was feeling a little more like a person, he exited the walk-in shower and entered the closet.
A simple black t-shirt and some gray sweatpants would suffice. He tried to practice some self-care Y/n had suggested and combed his wet hair and applied lotion to his skin. It gave him a small sense of accomplishment.
Bucky froze in the doorway between his room and bathroom, however. When did she get here? Was she waiting for long?
Y/n sat on his bed, one of the lamps on the nightstand was on. She looked fresh and clean with her damp hair in two braids and an oversized maroon sweater swamping her. She wore cozy-looking bottoms and Star Wars-themed socks. And she looked so beautiful cuddled up in his bed.
“Sorry, I knocked but you didn’t answer. Figured I’d wait for you here.” She spoke so sweetly to him while offering him her hand. He didn’t hesitate to take it and climb into bed next to her, pressing her hand to his chest. He wondered if she could feel his heart thumping.
“It’s fine… Sorry, I left so early.” Bucky rested his head on her shoulder and her hand found its way into his drying hair.
“I get why you did, Buck. It’s okay.” Her free hand came to grab his metal one and threaded their fingers together. “To be honest, I wanted to leave as soon as I saw you walking out. But Tony, of course, demanded I showed off some illusions.” She sighed and released his hair to rub tiredly at her temple.
“Does it hurt?” Bucky sat up straight and took her face in his flesh hand as if he could take away the pain with just his touch. She smiled and shrugged. His body hummed when she nuzzled her face into his palm. Maybe…She does feel the same way as him. Why would she be here at this moment if she didn’t?
“Sort of. I’m still not used to using my abilities on so many people, and in combination with people telling me what to show them next; I got a bit of a headache now.” Her head was fully relaxed into his hand now and he couldn’t help but run his thumb over her cheek.
The question was gnawing at him, but fear of rejection was a brick wall stopping it from leaving his mouth. Would you stay with me tonight? When he was younger, that might have been something cheeky he would have said to a dame. But now it was something he felt he needed to keep himself from having a nightmare. Just someone he loves beside him.
“Hey, Buck?” He barely heard her over the debate with himself in his head. Her hand covering his own drew him from his mind. He briefly thanked God that she never read anyone’s mind without consent.
“Yeah, doll?” She smiled with her eyes still closed and her fingers running gently over his. A small quirk in her smile, however, had him nervous. She looked like she was contemplating something.
“I need to tell you something.” She finally opened her eyes and held his gaze for a few moments before looking away. Perhaps it was the dim lighting, but her face took on a darker hue. There was no mistaking the nervous lip bite she did, though. The movement has his skin feeling like it was ignited.
He adjusted his metal grip on her hand to give her a hopefully reassuring squeeze. He didn’t say anything but just waited for her to be ready on her own. That’s what she did for him. She never pushed him to talk when he wasn’t ready, just let him know that she was there.
She was silent for a while, her eyes fixed on the wall above his bed. He could practically see the cogs turning in her head. Of course, this anticipation was killing him. Was she rejecting him without him getting a chance? Was she saying that she was done helping him? Is he too much?
Before his thoughts could go any further, she finally spoke up in a quiet voice filled with anxiety.
“Before I tell you, I want you to know that it’s totally alright if you’re not ready, or you don’t… feel the same. I never want you to feel pressured or rushed, and it’s up to you to respond…” Bucky was practically on fire now. She took a deep breath, held both of his hands in hers, and looked him in the eye.
“I love you, Bucky,” she said. Her voice held no quiver of nervousness now. Her eyes shone with love and confidence in that love. The sight of it sent Bucky into orbit. The tether keeping him on the ground snapped and he felt himself floating away in pure joy.
The smile that broke over his face was wider than any she had seen before. He bounced up to sit on his knees and towered over her. He took her face into his hands, taking in every detail he could. He must be dreaming. He must have fallen asleep after he returned from the party, and this was a dream.
“Doll, I – Are you serious?” If this was a dream, he never wanted to wake up. She laughed and placed her hands over his. She nodded and he swore her smile was brighter than the sun. “Lord, doll... I – I love you so much.”
His eyes dropped down to her lips as her tongue darted out. “Really?”
“Of course! How could I not be?” He ran one hand over her hair, letting it fall to rest along her jaw. “You – you’re everything to me, doll. I’d do anything if it meant that I could be by your side, even if you didn’t love me.”
Her smile wobbled and tears filled her eyes. Her hand gripped his t-shirt and tugged him closer. “Kiss me.”
Bucky didn’t need any more prompting than that. He bent over her and captured her lips in a searing kiss. Everything he hadn’t been able to express through words, he tried to convey in his kiss. His hands held her face and neck like she was the finest porcelain.
Her hands spread over his chest and trailed up around his neck. Her fingers toyed with the short hair at the base of his neck. The feeling sent chills down his spine. He remembers when she helped him cut his hair and how she had run her fingers through the shortened locks then.
The super soldier pulled away briefly, only to press his forehead against hers. Her eyes were still closed, and lips still parted. She looked divine. Her bright eyes slowly opened and met his. And it felt like he was being seen for the first time.
How could anyone so perfect actually exist. And how could they love me?
“You’re perfect for me, Buck.”
His eyes widened and he pulled away slightly. Had she -? She shook her head.
“Your expressions are sometimes enough to know what you’re thinking.” She sat up on her knees and cupped his face. She ghosted her lips over his cheeks, moving over his eyelids and down to his lips. When she pulled away she whispered against his skin.
“I have loved you since I first met you. And when I saw you I thought to myself, in the words of Etta James, at last, my love has come along.” She sang the words and it sounded like the voice of an angel. It gave Bucky the little bit of courage he needed to ask her what he’s wanted to ask her all night.
“Stay with me tonight?” She kissed him again in reply.
“I didn’t plan on going back to my apartment tonight anyway.” Bucky grinned at that and pulled her off the bed with him.
“Good, because I was only asking to be polite.” Bucky grinned slyly at her as he pulled the duvet and sheets back. He noticed she had brought her biggest and softest blanket from her bed. “You were really confident, weren’t you?”
She shrugged and grabbed the blanket from where she had deposited it on the armchair in the corner of the room. He took it and wrapped it snuggly around her shoulders. She gave a squeal when he swooped down and picked her up. He couldn’t help himself as he kissed her again before laying her down on the bed, and then again as he crawled in next to her.
“I love you, sweetheart.” Bucky could feel the cracks in his heart fusing, held together by the pure gold of her love. She cuddled closely to his side and laid her head on his chest. He brought his vibranium hand up to caress her cheek.
“I love you, too, James Buchanan Barnes.”

“How are things going with Y/N?”
He stared at the wall behind the woman. Can’t really say ‘older woman,’ seeing as how he is practically twice her age. But she does look older, he thought to himself. And she likes to nag like his grandmother did.
“Fine. Things are fine.” He’d do anything to be out of this room and with Y/N instead. He’d rather be with her than do anything else, in fact. That’s how ‘fine’ things are going.
“And you two are still doing your own exercises at home?” She questioned him again, her passive-aggressive notebook still sitting on the table next to her. If he were being honest, the exercises he and Y/N did at home helped him far better than sitting in this room with this old crone.
“Yeah.”
“And how are those going?” Question after question. Y/N didn’t need to ask so many questions. She just knew. Granted, her ability to slip into others’ minds helped. Bucky hesitated before giving an answer. If he answered at all the Doc would see that as cooperation and he didn’t feel like doing that. If he lied, she would see through it. But if he told the truth… She would probably see it as progress, and he might be able to quit these court-mandated sessions soon. Truth it is.
“I didn’t have a nightmare last night,” he offered, not quite meeting her eyes, looking at the middle of her forehead. Her eyebrows rose.
“Good. That’s very good.” She paused to observe him; her gaze was cold and calculating compared to the one at home. The one that holds his gaze with so much love and understanding that it makes his chest feel like it was splintering.
“What did you dream about?” She asked.
“That’s kinda personal, Doc.” He hoped the lilt he forced into his voice would satisfy her, trying to imply it was some intimate dream about him and his girlfriend. In a way, it had been.
“This is therapy; it’s supposed to be personal.” She gave him a flat look. Darn. Bucky rubbed his palms on his jeans and looked out the window. He should have just lied.
“James, what did you dream about?” She asked again, her tone slightly softer. “Did you hurt her? In your dream?” She read his anxiousness wrong. Y/N wouldn’t have; even without her powers.
“I said I didn’t have a nightmare.” It would have been the worst nightmare he could possibly have. He couldn’t even bare to think of hurting her. Luckily, he has not had a dream of hurting her. Not after she had laid his ass flat multiple times with just a brush of her powers over his mind. Not after she shoved the soldier back into the basement of his mind when they first met in Berlin.
“So, it was a good one?”
“I didn’t say that.” No, but it had been. It was everything he had dreamed of. He and Y/N, married. A nice house with a white picket fence. The laughter of their kids in the backyard with their dog. And the two of them slow dancing in the kitchen, flour in her hair from baking. The sunlight was soft as it filtered through the lace curtains.
It was everything he had thought he’d have when he had come home from the War. But he never did.
And now that he was getting a taste of it… He didn’t feel like he deserved it.
A tone filled the room, some musical piece to indicate their session was over. It pulled him from reliving his dream. Saved by the bell.
“Well, we’ll pick up here next week, then.” She uncrossed her legs and grabbed her notebook, writing a few notes. He wasted no time to shoot off the couch and make his way to the door, barely mumbling a farewell to the Doc.
“But James,” she called as his metal hand wrapped around the door handle. He paused but didn’t look back at her. She sighed. “You do deserve whatever you dreamt about.” How she knew what kind of dream it had been was beyond him, but her words had his chest constricting.
“Bye, Doc.” He left the room.
Bucky returned to the Compound around lunchtime; he knew she would be in their shared apartment with food waiting. She always ordered the best comfort food on the days he had to see Dr. Raynor. Sushi.
Her singing reached his ears before he opened the door; the sweet sound sent his heart soaring. He smiled as he silently walked to the kitchen and leaned against the doorframe. She had yet to notice him, with her headphones in and her focus on the dough in front of her.
She was an absolute vision. Her hair was up in a messy bun, secured by a floral pattern scrunchie. She wore one of his white t-shirts that hugged her in all the right places, paired with floral pajama shorts. Simple white socks covered her usually frigid toes.
And she was singing like an angel. A song he hadn’t heard yet, though that was not a surprise. But man, did he sure love hearing her sing.
“My head is saying, ‘Fool, forget him.’ My heart is saying, ‘Don’t let go, hold on to the end,' that’s what I intend to do. I’m hopelessly devoted to you.” She swayed as she rolled up her dough, completely lost in her song.
He let her finish her song before coming up behind her, just as she was placing her unbaked cinnamon rolls in the pan to proof. She smiled as he wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder.
“I was wondering when you’d come and give me a hug. You were standing over there staring at me like a creeper.” She chuckled, twisting in his hold after placing a tea towel over her pan. She removed her headphones and placed them and her phone on the counter.
“Sorry, I was enjoying the view too much.” He returned her smile before pressing a kiss to her lips. She grinned into the kiss, threading her floury hands into the short hair at the base of his neck. When they parted, their eyes locked, and he rested his forehead against hers. Their eyes glazed as he allowed her into his head.
It was something they both agreed on. After every session with Dr. Raynor, Bucky would report everything that had happened during the session, including the things he thought about but didn’t say out loud. They both knew it would be easier for him to open up about certain things with her over his shrink, so the issue was never pushed on him to be more open with the Doc.
“Hm… I have to say I agree with her parting statement,” Y/N remarked as she pulled away. “But first, let’s eat. I could feel how hungry you are.”
Bucky forced a smile and helped her set out the sushi she had kept in the fridge until he got home. She had ordered a lot more than she normally did. Probably because of his dream last night. He didn’t show her his dream. Rather, his emotions were so high during the dream that she somehow got sucked into his mind and was living it with him. They had a small talk about it that morning before his appointment.
They ate in comfortable silence for a while, just enjoying the food and each other’s company. This is why he preferred his exercises with Y/N over his sessions with Dr. Raynor. Y/N never pushed him to talk. Never used a notebook as a weapon to get him to talk. She was patient and warm and kind. She understood that adjusting to this new life of his was hard; especially after everything he has done.
Forced to do. He reminded himself. It was one exercise Y/N had him practicing. Just rewording his thoughts. He didn’t have to believe it, not yet, but he just had to say it to himself. Eventually, he’d find himself believing it, she had said. She said it with such conviction that he couldn’t help but believe her. Because that’s how she got herself out of her dark place.
“What was that song you were singing?” He asked after they had eaten their fill and were cleaning up. She nearly dropped the dish in her hand as she whipped her head around to look at him. You would have thought he had slapped her with the look of pure shock and offense on her face.
“Excuse me? What song-? What?” She sputtered and shook her head in disbelief. He gave an incredulous laugh at her behavior.
“Is it really that much of a surprise that I don’t know it?”
“Yes!” She answered quickly. “It absolutely is, seeing as how we’ve known and been together for literal years, now. I can’t believe we’ve never watched Grease!”
She didn’t give him time to question anymore as she snatched the plate from his hands and carelessly tossed it into the sink and began pushing him to the bedroom.
“Dishes can wait! You get your old ass into some comfy clothes while I set up the classroom, because you’re gonna learn just how great of a movie Grease is, and you are going to like it.” Her tone left no room for arguments as she gave him one last push into the bedroom before disappearing into the living room.
He chuckled but did as he was told and slipped into some gray sweatpants that Y/N had once told him were obscene, and a cozy black hoodie. He took an extra moment to grab the large, fluffy blanket from their bed so they could cuddle under it.
When he entered the living room the movie was already pulled up on Prime Video and she was nowhere to be seen. The smell and sound of popcorn cooking gave away her position in the kitchen, along with her singing.
He grinned and tossed the blanket onto the couch before sneaking into the kitchen. She had just pulled the bag out of the microwave and was putting it in the large bowl, two sodas already on the counter. Defenses down. Shot clear. She set the bowl down and reached for the candy in the cabinet. Taking the shot.
Swooping low, Bucky knocked her legs out with his arm under her knees, the other wrapping around her back and lifting her into the air. A shriek of surprise turned into laughter, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling his face to hers. She gave him a loud, sloppy kiss.
“Should we get this show on the road?” He asked when they parted. She nodded and grabbed the bowl and candy and sodas, holding them in her lap as it seemed he wasn’t putting her down until they got to the living room.
He deposited her on the couch and sat next to her, pulling her legs onto his lap, and tossing the large blanket over them. She pressed play and nuzzled into his side. Bucky wrapped his arms tighter around her, kissing her temple.
As they watched, Bucky would ask questions or make comments on the characters. Y/N was happy to see him so engaged and genuinely enjoying the movie. Over the years, she would watch movies with him, trying to catch him up on pop culture. His favorites so far had been the original trilogy of Star Wars.
“Danny is a bit of a tool,” Bucky said out of nowhere. They had been sitting in silence during the prom scene and had finally reached the drive-in scene. Y/N left out a barking laugh at the sudden declaration.
“You know, he definitely is!”
><
By the time the movie ended, it was mid-afternoon, and Y/N was yawning. It was her usual nap time. Her work for Tony Stark and the Avengers usually had her sleeping at random times, just as inconsistent as Bucky’s sleeping schedule, mostly because part of her job was to help Bucky.
“How’d you like the movie?” She asked, stretching out her legs before standing from the couch.
“Definitely in the top ten.” Bucky’s eyes raked up her stretching form, the shorts, the way his shirt hugged her curves, and her messy bun at the top of her head. It all had him feeling like the luckiest man in the universe.
“Only the top ten? Why? And in what place?” She stood in front of him with her hands on her hips and a slight pout on her lips. This was definitely in the top five for her.
“Don’t get me wrong, the movie was great, and I loved it. But I’d probably place it at number six.” Okay, sixth place wasn’t that bad, just one movie away from being top five.
“Okay, so the top three I know is the Star Wars trilogy, and fourth place is the first Hobbit… But what is fifth place? What’s better than Grease?” She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. Bucky laughed awkwardly and looked away, a blush on his cheeks.
“Nothing…” He had seen this movie a couple of times and he loved it. The characters, the music, and the plot, it was all great. But it seemed… a little embarrassing for him to like it. He was still very old-fashioned and the style of dancing and clothing in this movie had him a little flustered.
“Oh, come on! What movie?” Y/N stepped forward until she stood between his legs and then bent over him, caging his head with her arms resting on the couch behind him. He turned his face to the side, not wanting to look into those inviting eyes.
She could just look into his mind with her abilities, but that would be an invasion of privacy and when she gained these powers, she vowed to never look into someone else’s mind without consent. Because consent is sexy.
“You can’t laugh.” He mumbled, still not making eye contact with his girlfriend. She rolled her eyes but smiled anyway.
“I’d never laugh at you, dear.” A blatant lie, they both knew.
“Liar.” Bucky reached up to pinch her side. She squealed and her knees buckled, allowing him to pull her onto his lap. “Just this morning you laughed at me because I asked where that kid’s parents were.”
Y/N let out another laugh as she recalled Bucky’s reaction this morning to a TikTok she had been watching. Some pre-teen girl was cursing about something wrong in her life and Bucky happened to catch the colorful language as he passed by.
Y/N definitely agreed with him, but coming from the 106-year-old soldier, it just sounded like the most grandpa response he could have come up with.
“Oh, but it was the cutest thing!” She snuggled into him, pressing her face into his bearded cheek. He let out a hmph and tried to turn his face away again. But her hands came up to hold him in place and she littered kisses all over his face. “Please, Buck? I won’t laugh.”
Bucky knew if he looked at her, he’d see those big puppy eyes and he would immediately crack. But her hands running over his chest and neck were having the same effect anyway. He tossed his head back against the back of the couch with a groan. She grinned, knowing she got him.
“Fine.” He hesitated for a moment, chewing on the inside of his lip. “It’s… di…cing..”
She tilted her head in confusion, “Come again?”
“Dirty Dancing! Okay? I like Dirty Dancing.”
Y/N had to press her lips into a tight line to stop the laugh that was bubbling up due to his outburst. She wasn’t laughing at his choice of movie, but just the way he said it. His face was bright red, and he was glaring up at the ceiling.
“Awww, Buck! That’s so cute!” She squealed and smothered him in kisses. He groaned and stood up, dropping her to the couch as she laughed.
“You lair! You said you wouldn’t laugh!” He made to stomp away but she rolled off the couch to the floor and grabbed his ankle.
“I’m not laughing at your choice of movie, I promise! I love that movie, too, Buck!”
“Nope, too late. Release me, you leech.” He began shuffling his way to their bedroom. She wrapped her arms around his ankle and forced him to drag her.
“Never!” She cried in defiance and reached up with one hand to tickle the back of his knee. He buckled and hit the ground. She could feel his panic as he began to army crawl away. She cackled evilly as she grabbed the back of his hoodie and dragged herself forward to straddle his back.
“No! Please! Lemme go- HA!” She had begun her assault on his sides. His scream-laughing had her chest filling with light and joy. It wasn’t so long ago that he never even smiled. So, to hear him let loose in such a way made her feel like the luckiest woman in the universe. To be able to have him like this. To love him like this. She wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Her fingers slowed until they rested along his scapulas. He turned his head to stare at her from the corner of one blue eye. His brows were drawn suspiciously. However, the soft smile on her face had his face relaxing into an easy smile. She leaned down and pressed a warm kiss to his stubbled cheek.
“I love you, Bucky,” She whispered in his ear before standing up. He was quick to his feet and even quicker to pull her into his arms. His lips sealed over hers in a chaste kiss.
“I love you more, Dollface.” He said in between peppering kisses over her face. She smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning into his affections.
They both lived for days like this. It was a battle getting here, but it was well worth it. The calm that enveloped their cozy apartment, the warmth that filled everyone who entered. The quiet as they lay in bed, and the ruckus of them teasing each other. This was Bucky’s entire world. Right here. In her arms.
They had calmed down and were simply holding each other, both lost in thought of their love for the other. She gently stroked her fingers down the back of his head, letting her nails scrape against his scalp. She could feel the goosebumps rising under her other hand.
He was giving her the same treatment with his arms wrapped around her waist, his right hand tracing up and down her spine. He was so warm against her. She sighed contently against his skin, dropping a kiss to the space his shoulder met his neck. He hummed in happiness.
Oh yeah, he was going to make the dream he had last night come true. The second she fell asleep for her nap he was going to look up rings. And maybe a house. And at the shelter for a dog, or maybe a cat. Hell, he should look at baby cribs while he’s at it.
“What are you thinking about so hard, Bucky? I can smell smoke,” she teased. He grumbled and nipped her neck.
“Rude. And here I was thinking about how good you would look in a wedding dress.” He released her and tried to pull away. “But nevermind.”
“Wait! What?” She tightened her arms around him, preventing him from going anywhere, not like he truly planned to anyway. He was far too happy in her embrace to be out of it for long anyway. “You were thinking of me in a wedding dress? Is it because of your dream last night?”
Bucky stepped closer to her again, his hands on her hips stroking circles with his thumbs. “Well, yeah. Last night was the first time I dreamed of us being married… But it’s not the first time I thought about it.”
Hope and unadulterated joy filled her chest. Not a day went by since she confessed to him last year that she didn’t think of what it would be like to be called, Mrs. Barnes.
“Come here!” She pulled away from him and grabbed his hand, dragging him into their room. He had whiplash. One second he was saying he wanted to marry her and the next she was dragging him through their home.
In the bedroom, she went to the desk and pulled a notebook from the drawer. It was the one she kept with her during briefings and other meetings.
“Do you remember a few months ago when we were in a meeting and you asked what I was doodling?” She held the book to her chest nervously. Her feet were pressed together, fidgeting. He nodded slowly. He wasn’t entirely sure where she was going with this.
“Okay, well, I wasn’t really doodling… I was writing this.” She opened the notebook to a page in the middle and handed it over to him. He took it with shaking hands as hope and anticipation flooded his senses.
Mrs. Barnes <3
It was written over and over again on the page. Some with her first name. Some with her first and middle. She even looked to be practicing different signatures with Barnes as her last name.
“I’m sorry… it’s kinda weird, I’m just now realizing… We can forget it-”
He silenced her with a soul-searing kiss. He was never forgetting this. She wanted to marry him just as much as he wanted to marry her. Her hands dropped the notebook to instead grip his hoodie and pull him in closer.
When they pulled away their faces had matching love-drunk grins.
“I don’t have a ring and I don’t want to let you go to kneel, but will you, Y/N L/N, do me the very high honor of marrying me?” Bucky’s blue eyes peered into her own, bright and hopeful. She giggled and pulled him into a tight hug, her arms now around his neck and her lips against his ear.
“Of course, I will.”

Hello 🥰 I saw your request post and figured I'd send something in. I've had this idea for years, and it would be fun to read it!
You know when Steve finds and rescues Bucky at Hydra in the first movie? What if it's reader who they're rescuing and Hydra did some experiments on. Maybe she's Steves sister and they wanted to get to him through her and obviously Bucky has a thing for her lol 🥰
A/N: Sincerest apologies for taking so long to get this up. I've been taking on extra duties at work since my partner got fired and things have been super crazy since it's end of quarter. it also hasn't been the best for my mental health, so writing had been a struggle. probably why this ended up being so dang angsty. Sorry. Adulting seriously sucks. Anyway, hope you enjoy!
Rain pattered gently on the canvas walls of the medical tent, while boots splashed noisily in the mud it created. Outside of the tent, she could hear the daily drills going on, soldiers training, and officers shouting commands. Her own fellow nurses milled about the tent, tending to wounded soldiers or doing other daily chores. It was a quiet day for the 107th Infantry Regiment.
“Alright, Private Richards, try not to go sticking your hand into random holes again. I doubt the next rabbit will be so kind.” Nimble fingers began tidying up the bloodied cotton balls and gauze used to clean and wrap the boy’s hand. 18 years old, you would think he’d know better than to stick his hand in holes in the ground.
“Yes, First Lieutenant, ma’am…” The boy grabbed his jacket and sulked out of the med tent. She laughed to herself as she watched him go. Knowing him, he’d be back soon enough. Not unlike his Sergeant, who wandered in a few moments later, a lazy smirk on his lips.
James Buchanan Barnes. Or as she’s known for most of her life, Bucky. The charming Sergeant was her older brother’s best friend, having been around since she was small. They were all thick as thieves, hardly seen without one of the others.
It may or may not have been a blessing to constantly have Bucky around. He was kind, funny, and took good care of her and her brother. However, other boys and men didn’t seem too eager to get to know her with him hanging at her shoulder. It’s even worse now with Steve being triple the size he was a year ago.
Occasionally, a brave soul will strike up the nerve to enter the medical tent and ask her out to the nearest town for a drink and a dance. But Bucky had uncanny timing. He always popped up just as she was about to answer.
“Now, a pretty face like that shouldn’t look so angry.” A voice sounded in her ear. A startled gasp escaped her and her hands fumbled the tools she had been organizing. Bucky caught a pair of forceps before they could hit the floor.
“James! You nearly gave me a heart attack!” She admonished him with a firm smack on the shoulder. He chuckled and rubbed the sore spot.
“Ow, careful there, doll. Gonna take my arm off with that strength.”
“Oh please, it’ll take a lot more than that to get rid of you.” She spun out of his reach when he tried to grab her arm. A small smile graced her lips as she made a final spin to face him. “Did you need something, Bucky?”
“What, I can’t come see my best girl just because I want to?
“I know your troop is supposed to be running the course right now, so no you can’t just come see me because you want to,” she said while gesturing for him to sit on the cot in the corner or her station. “Now, what mess did you get yourself into to be sent here?”
“You know me so well, Darlin’,” he whispered wistfully, smiling up at her with those big blues. He wore a dopey smile as he presented his cut left hand. She pursed her lips and tried to fight the blush rising to her cheeks. Damn him.
Stepping closer, she took his calloused hand into her softer one and observed the cut. It wasn’t too deep but still needed to be cleaned and dressed.
“What happened?” She remained in between his legs as she prepped some alcohol and gauze. His right hand toyed with the fabric of her skirt. With a narrowed look, she smacked the back of it.
“Just a climbing exercise; a nail was sticking out of the wall and caught my hand.” His voice was hushed as she worked. She hummed and began cleaning the wound. He hissed and jerked his hand back. With eyes rolling, the nurse grabbed his hand more firmly.
“You big baby.”
“Your big baby.” She smacked his arm again.
<><>
Gunshots fired all around her, men shouting and screaming. Some in pain, some as a battle cry. But all she could think about was how gentle Bucky’s hands had been in hers. And how much she wished it was his hands on her right now.
But larger, rougher hands now tore at her. Pushing and pulling. She screamed from behind her gag and her hands strained against the restraints. Black boots kicked out at her captors as she fought like a feral cat. She twisted this way and that, anything to loosen their grip on her. But against four burly men, she didn’t stand a chance.
She guessed they had gotten tired of her struggling because a blunt weapon struck the back of her head and she fell limp to the ground.
It was cold. Colder than she had ever been. The air was damp, making the ache in her lungs worse. Blurry eyes peeled open. The room she sat in was dark, only a green-tinted light on the other side of the room illuminated the space. Its murky light cast deep shadows around the room that seemed to move. Her head lolled to the side as one shadow moved closer.
Ah, not shadows. Men. Hydra.
“Good evening, Miss Rogers.” His voice was heavily accented and polite. Nothing like what you’d imagine a torturer or murderer to sound like. “I am honored to have Captain America’s sister as my guest.”
She groaned. The gag was no longer wrapped around her mouth, but her tongue felt like lead. Thoughts struggled to focus and grasp what this man was saying.
“Such a shame, a First Lieutenant, Chief Nurse, so much promise in your future. But because of your brother, you’ll never get to meet that future. We have another one much better suited for you.”
His words floated through her mind but didn’t stick. She was a nurse… She helps people. Why was she here? There were soldiers at camp that needed her. Bucky needed her…
“..ucky…” She slurred, drool dribbling from the corner of her mouth. Her bones felt heavier than lead and her muscles were like the slop served at breakfast. The shadows at the edge of her vision danced ever closer.
“Don’t worry, my dear, you’ll forget the pain soon.”
<><>
Bucky tore through the camp, Steve hot on his heels. His blue eyes roved over the multitude of bodies and injured, searching for that familiar head of hair. Always done up so prettily. Like last week when she was bandaging up his hand. Her nails were painted red, and her hair was twisted up into a flawless bun. Her red-painted lips smiled warmly at him. Fear gripped his heart at the idea that he would never see that smile again.
“Bucky, stop!” Steve clamped a hand on his best friend’s shoulder, forcing the Sergeant to a stop. It wouldn’t do his sister any good if they lost their heads. As much as he wanted to tear the whole world apart until his sister was safe, he knew that reckless actions could get her killed. If she wasn’t dead already…
“She’s – she’s gone, Steve. Where is she!?” Bucky spun to face Steve, his eyes wide and slightly crazed. He can’t lose her. He never got to take her on a date. Never got to hold her close and confess how deeply and fervently he love her. Bucky bit down on his lip to stop its wobble. He can’t cry, not yet. Not while there’s still a possibility she’s out there.
“I know. I know, Buck. We’ll get her back. No matter what.”
Footsteps rushed up to the pair. A soldier stopped in front of them, slightly out of breath. “A-a letter for you, sir. It-it has the hydra insignia.”
Upon reading the contents, Steve and Bucky took off to Colonel Phillips' tent. The older man sat at a desk, signing letters to the families of the deceased and missing. Steve hardly gave the man time to put his pen down before requesting a team to rescue the captured. He decided to leave out the fact that he was only doing this to get his sister back.
“I understand the heroic need to save the day, but those who have been taken prisoner are far behind enemy lines and we don’t have the manpower or resources to conduct a rescue mission.” Phillips’ response was expected, but it didn’t stop Bucky’s jaw from clenching or his hands from balling into fists.
The Colonel looked at the two young men standing in front of him. He knew exactly why they wanted to go. Only a fool would think that Captain America wouldn’t move heaven and earth for the younger Rogers. An even bigger fool wouldn’t see the lovesick look every time James Barnes was near her, or the way his gaze follows her as she walks across the base.
Phillips sighed heavily, digging through a stack of letters yet to be signed. First Lieutenant Y/N Rogers. MIA.
Steve took the letter with shaking hands. Bucky felt a tear roll down his cheek.
They were dismissed and the two trudged away. A silent look was exchanged and they agreed. They would go after her with or without permission.
<><>
“…name… Rogers…” Chapped lips mumbled her name over and over again. A tired mind determined to hold on to herself. Don’t forget. Don’t forget. “…Y/N… Rogers…”
“Y/N?” A voice hissed.
“Y/N/N?” A different voice, closer this time.
“Steve! She’s here!” The buckles around her wrists and ankles fell off one by one. Warm, calloused hands that she dreamed about cupped her face. She groaned and willed the fog from her brain. These hands. Bucky’s hands.
“Buck…” She croaked, red lipstick smudged, and once pristine hair hanging limply around her face. His smile brightened the shadows in her vision. Steve had joined them and helped her sit up.
“Hey, doll. What’s a pretty girl like you doing in a place like this?” Giving her a watery smile, he pushed the hair from her face. The cheap line earned him a weak chuckle.
“Oh, what any girl does in a place like this,” she responded. Together, the two men helped her to her feet. The room pitched suddenly, her legs giving out under her. Whatever they had given her made her legs weak.
“Guess you make me a little weak in the knees,” she joked as Bucky swept her into his arms. She tucked her head into his neck, leaning heavily into him. Steve carefully led the way out, checking around corners and taking out any enemy soldiers that they crossed paths with.
Eventually, the trio made it out of the now-burning building. A mass of freed soldiers met them and together the company fought their way back to their camp. Bucky cradled her close to his chest the entire time. He stuck close to Steve, letting him take the punches. Steve didn’t mind.
For almost two weeks she was laid up in a cot in the medical tent. It was strange, in the years that she had been an army nurse, she had been the one giving care. She had never been the patient. And the patient of her subordinates, no less.
Her closer friends teased her that she was a horrible patient. Their teasing helped ease the residual anxiety and adrenaline from her ordeal. But what had really helped, was Bucky’s constant presence. During meal time and recreation time, he would come to visit her in the medical tent. Steve would drop by as well, but it was mostly Bucky.
As the days passed, Bucky seemed more and more nervous, however. Like he had something to say, just on the tip of his tongue. Sometimes, when he maybe thought she wasn’t looking, she caught him looking guilty. She hoped beyond hope that he didn’t blame himself for what had happened.
“You’re cleared to return to light duty, First Lieutenant,” Second Lieutenant Fredricks said with a smile.
The first few days of light duty were spent organizing and assisting. Then after a week, she was cleared to begin training again. Nurses didn’t necessarily need to do the drills the men did, but it didn’t mean they couldn’t. She also preferred to stay in shape and to keep her skills from going rusty.
Growing up with her brother being bullied, Y/N learned how to defend not only herself but Steve, as well. The elder Rogers sibling didn’t care for her fighting but he did appreciate that in a pinch, she could defend herself.
In the early morning, dressed in a pair of trousers and a simple shirt, Y/N makes her way to the track. A run should be light enough.
She could make out the tall frames of Steve and Bucky amongst the other men getting ready for their morning run. Bucky smiled as she approached.
“Hey, how’s it going? You sure you’re okay to be running?” Bucky brushed his hand over hers when she stopped in front of him. The touch made her stomach flutter but she smiled confidently at him.
“Actually, I’ve never felt better. I’m tired of being cooped up in the med tent for so long.” She bent to tighten her boots’ laces. Bucky shrugged and patted her shoulder, teasingly telling her to not fall behind. She scoffed and took off after the troops in a light jog.
Steve and Bucky kept pace with her, both worrying she might become too tired and collapse. Their hovering and not-so-subtle glances did not go unnoticed by her. Irritation settled quickly in her bones. She wasn’t some fragile flower. Just because something bad happened to her doesn’t mean she going to break at any moment.
Spurred by anger, her legs moved faster on their own accord. Steve glanced at his best friend as they sped up to match. Soon, the three of them were overtaking the other troops. Bucky was breathing heavily as they passed the frontman, now in a full sprint.
“W-wait!” He panted as the two Rogers siblings were now racing down the path. How was she running that fast!? How wasn’t she tired? Her smaller frame broke past Steve, who was now struggling to keep up.
The younger Rogers didn’t even notice the concerned and shocked looks she was receiving. The wind rushing in her ears and the trees blurring in her vision was all she could focus on. She felt like she was flying; her feet barely touching the ground. She felt free.
She burst into the clearing at the end of their running trail, the morning sun warming her wind-chilled skin. The grass kicked up as she skidded to a halt. A laugh erupted from her, her head light with adrenaline and awe. Then reality sunk in.
Bucky and Steve broke through the tree line a few minutes later.
“Y/N!”
She turned to look at them, her brows scrunched together and lips forming a thin line.
“They did this to me…” She murmured, gazing turning down at her clenched fists. She had thought she was feeling so good because she survived Hydra’s torment. How quickly this revelation brought her down. They poked and prodded, injected, and dissected. They had changed her.
“Doll?” Bucky approached her slowly, hands out in front of him. Seeing her lip wobble had his heart shattering in him. Throwing caution to the wind, he wrapped his arms around her. She buried her face in his chest, drowning her sobs in the rough fabric of his shirt. Her brother stood beside them, rubbing his hand over her shoulders.
“I’ve got ya, sweets. I got ya,” Bucky muttered into her hair. “We’re gonna figure this out. It’ll be okay.”
Lord, he hoped he was telling the truth.
<><>
Months went by as she adjusted to her new abilities. After she discovered her inhuman speed, she quickly learned she was inhumanly strong. Not as strong as her brother, but definitely stronger than any other man in the camp.
She began training with the men, easily laying anyone flat during sparring. Even Steve struggled against her. While he surpassed her in strength, she made it up in speed and agility. She had been given the moniker of Lady Liberty once the higher-ups found out.
But despite the usefulness of these abilities. She couldn’t help but feel violated. Every night she woke up in a cold sweat, dreaming of their cold instruments and icy laughter. More than once she ended up in the clearing from months before.
Each time she made it out there, Bucky wasn’t far behind. He held her as he had back then, whispering comforting words and stroking her hair. This night began no differently than the others. They sat in the middle of the clearing, the half-moon illuminated above their heads.
“I’m sorry, Bucky… You don’t have to come out here with me every night.” She sniffled, wiping her tears from her cheeks. She was settled in between his stretched-out legs, her own draped over one of his thighs. He shook his head and sighed.
“I don’t mind, Doll. Really.” Soft lips pressed against her temple. “Unless you tell me to go, I won’t leave your side. I can’t.”
Shining eyes looked up into his baby blues. She had never felt so safe and protected as she did in Bucky’s arms. Even though she could easily kick his butt in a fight, she knew he would fight tooth and nail for her. And she would burn down the world for him.
There was no doubt in her mind as she pressed her lips to his. He sighed against her as he deepened the kiss, pulling her closer by the waist. Everything clicked into place with this kiss. They had been dancing around this thing between them for years, neither willing to take the leap and possibly lose what they already had.
But the feeling of her lips on his, the taste of her on his tongue had him bitterly regretting not doing this sooner. How many kisses could they have had? How many dates and late nights have they missed? He sure had a lot of time to make up.
“I love you, Y/N.” His breath fanned across the skin of her neck as his kiss-swollen lips brushed along it.
“I love you, James.”

Over the next two years, the Howling Commandos slowly but surely made their way through the Hydra bases. First Lieutenant Rogers led alongside her brother, Captain Rogers. Not only as extra muscle, but as a nurse, and occasionally, spy. Bucky didn’t like the idea of his girl being ogled by slimy nazi men, but she convinced him that no one would expect a woman to be a super soldier.
She would infiltrate their meetings as a piece of eye candy, acquiring information as needed and then arresting the men as she saw fit.
But this particular mission didn’t require revealing dresses or sultry makeup. Rather, she wore a winter coat and combat boot with reinforced soles. The speed that she ran quickly ate through nearly all of her shoes.
The Commandos were all situated on a cliff overlooking another with a set of train tracks. They were waiting on the train carrying Doctor Zola. Glove-covered hands clenched at her side. Doctor Zola. One of the men who had turned her into this. Turned her into a weapon.
Bucky’s heavy hand wrapped around her waist and pulled her to his side. His soft lips brushed against her temple.
“It’s gonna be okay,” he reassured. “We go in, kick some ass, and then get out. Easy.”
She chuckled and pressed a kiss to his waiting lips. The other men had the decency to look away from the couple.
“Alright, lovebirds, let’s get a move on.” Steve’s voice called out from the edge of the cliff.
She scoffed at her brother and kissed her sergeant once more. “See you on the other side, tiger.”
<><>
Things were going south very quickly. Hydra had more gun power than she had thought. A huge man with bigger guns than himself stood in the doorway to their car. His guns glowed blue as they powered up.
Steve shoved both his sister and Bucky behind him, holding up his shield. The blast had her teeth rattling in her skull, her body flying back further than the boys. The impact of her head hitting the metal floor caused stars to dance in her vision.
She could barely comprehend the cold rush of air from the massive hole in the side of the train. And before she could gather herself, the man was priming another shot, pointed directly at her. Shaking legs tried to bare her weight as she scrambled for her gun.
Bucky had gathered himself faster than her or her brother, so she could only watch as he picked up Steve’s shield and fired a few shots at the enemy. A scream ripped from her throat when blue light shot out at her sergeant.
Bucky went flying, the shield in the other direction. Both the Rogers siblings jumped into action. Steve went for the shield, quickly taking out the other man. She leaped for the hole in the wall of the train that Bucky had flown out of.
Her eyes widened with horror as she gazed upon the man she loved, hanging on for dear life to the crumbling handrails.
“Bucky! Hold on!” She reached out to him, trying to find her footing to get to him and pull him to safety. The look in his eyes was one she had never seen on him before. Blue eyes wide with fear, his mouth poised in a silent scream. And as his fingers brushed against hers, tips barely able to curl around each other, he was gone.
His scream was joined by hers. The image of him falling to his death will forever be ingrained in her mind. It’ll be the last thing on her mind as she goes to sleep and the first one when she wakes up. It’ll be there when she fights her way through Hydra soldiers, and as she sends her fist straight into Johann Schmidt’s ugly, red face.
Steve worried about his sister’s mental health since that day. She had retreated into herself. Long gone was the witty and strong woman he knew. His sister, who had always been so bright, had been replaced by someone who only knew how to fight.
She only spoke to give orders or to communicate during battle. Her words were always clipped and to the point; no room for banter or sarcasm. The icy wall she had built around herself was all to conceal the torment her mind tortured her with.
If only she had been stronger, maybe she wouldn’t have been down for so long. If she had been faster, she could have reached him before he fell. If she had been better, maybe he wouldn’t have died. Every moment was filled with these thoughts. Awake or not. It was all she could think about.
Eventually, she became too tired. She fought with everything she had; Bucky at least deserved that. She wouldn’t give up simply because it would mean he died in vain. However, with each new opponent, she could help but wish that this one would be stronger than her.
No opponent was ever stronger than her. Until now.
It wasn’t a person that she now faced her death with. But a plane filled with explosives. Schmidt was gone, as was the Tesseract. Now, she and her brother faced the cracked windows of the plane. She tried to keep her lip from trembling as Steve spoke with Peggy.
Even if she hadn’t gotten her happy ending, she had wished her big brother would have gotten his. Tear-filled eyes opened when she felt a hand come to rest on hers. Steve’s face was solemn as he spoke.
“I’ve gotta put it in the water.” He was half telling Peggy and half asking for permission from his sister. It wasn’t just his life going down for millions of others, but his little sister’s, too. The siblings shared a weighty look before she nodded.
Lady Liberty listened quietly as Captain America spoke with Agent Carter. No.
Y/N listened brokenheartedly as her big brother said his goodbyes to the woman he loved and who loved him in return.
And as Steve redirected the plane to the icy terrain below, she closed her eyes and imagined the warm hands of her love. His blue fire eyes and easy grin. The feel of his lips against hers. The sound of her name on his tongue.
I’m coming, Bucky.
Steve Rogers looking over a murder: how could she have killed him, she's just a girl with no powers or training.
Y/N coming into the room: well that is a bit sexist, a girl can easily kill. With the right motivation.

he was here.
i was in the palace when i saw the big black portal, i immediately ran out of the palace and outside. i ran as fast as i could, my legs and lungs burned as i ran.
when i got there i saw thanos grab vision by his neck and rip the stone out of his head, throwing his grey lifeless body on the ground.
“vision” i scream through tears as i run over to him, i hold his lifeless body against mine. as i’m holding him i feel a big hand gently pull my hair back, i look up and scowl as i see thanos looking at me sympathetically.
“i understand what you are feeling little one” he admits and i give him a look of disgust because he is, i can feel the grief and sadness washing off of him. i don’t say anything, i just look away from him. i feel him let go of my hair and walk away from me, leaving me with a lifeless vision.
i looked down at vision and let out a heart wrenching sob. everything i knew about vision was gone, his beautiful red skin, his beautiful blue eyes, but most his love. i couldn’t feel it anymore, i couldn’t feel him anymore.
present
today marked the five year anniversary of the snap and vision's death.
everyone was inside the compound building the time machine to get everyone back while i was at vision and i’s favorite spot. whenever we wanted to come outside we would sit under a big oak tree and look at the sunset or stars.
the team never knew even after five years how hard i took it and i hoped they never would. i looked on the ground and picked up the envelope that had my name on it in visions handwriting. i opened it and unfolded the paper, it was a property deed for a house. i looked down and saw a big heart drawn in red with writing in it...
to grow old in v.
i immediately felt the tears fall down my face, a sob escaped my lips as i remember what he admitted 5 years ago before thanos came.

“and i love you darling”

“has anyone checked up on y/n today” nat asks and no one answers “guys come on today is probably one of the worst days of the year for her and none of you remembered” she scolds.
they all think for a moment before it hits them “oh god” steve mumbles, regret flowing through his body.
“today, today’s the day?” tony asks and nat nods. tony also feels regret wash over him as he remembers hearing you sob in your room when he came from space.
“what’s today” scott asks confused “today is the day thanos snapped and killed vision, the love of her life” rhodey explains as scott frowns feeling empathy for the poor girl.
as they stand in silence they hear her heart wrenching sobs coming from outside, this was the worst they have ever seen her besides the day of.

they all walk over to her and see her curly hair covering her face as she cries into visions body, they her mumbling the words i’m sorry over and over again like a prayer.
they all stand around her, nat moves to caress her rub her back encouraging her to let it all out. they sit there and let her cry until they need to go, thor carries her as she cried while steve grabbed visions lifeless body.
they had never seen her this bad, her eyes were puffy and red while her sobs were strained. nat and steve couldn’t help but shed a few tears watching their friends grieve over such a loss.

i wanted nothing more than to live the rest of my life with vision. i wanted to get married and start a family with him.
it’s all gone now.

he did it, he actually did it.
he snapped...
and what did it cost...
everything.
the helmet to my suit opened and i saw peter kneeling over my husbands body, i walked over to him peter who was sobbing uncontrollably and rubbed his back. rhodey grabbed peter giving me a nod before walking away with peter.
i kneel down in front of tony and move him to look at me “hey” i say smiling sadly at his tired face,i put my hand on is arc reactor and try to hold my tears back.
“hey, y/n/n” he says softly placing his hand over mine gripping it lightly.
i look at tony and he smiles before looking away “tony baby, look at me” i say and he looks at me “we’ll be ok” i start off “you can rest now” i say and smile.
he looks at me before taking his last breath, i immediately breakdown into tears. i feel his hand slip from mine and his body go limp.
he’s gone.
i kiss his cheek lightly before my head falls on his chest, i sob into his chest not caring that kings and gods were watching me break down.
1 week later
today was the funeral.
i never would have though this day would have come so quickly, i knew it would come but never would i be prepared for it.
i was sitting on the couch with peter on my right and morgan on my left sitting next to pepper, peter had his head on my shoulder and his hand laced with mine as we listen to tony talk.
i let a few tears slip as i listened to tony’s hologram wishing it was him actually here with us.
“i love you 3000”
the holograms shuts off and i smile sadly remembering morgan’s lasts words to her dad. i let go of peters hand and get up from off of the couch, i grab the bouquet of flowers with one of tony’s old arc reactors that have the words ‘proof tony stark has a heart’ on it and walk out of the house.
everyone follows me out of the house and stand with their loved ones as i walk to the platform with morgan, i crouch down and place the bouquet in the the water and watch it drift away.
i feel morgan tap my shoulder and i look over at her and see a tear slip down her face, i wipe it away and smile sadly. she hugs me and i hug her back, i rub her back and she sniffles.
“i love you y/n” she says and i feel tears come to my eyes, this is the first time she’s ever said that to me.
“i love you too morgan” i says pulling away from the hug and she frowns as she wipes my tears with her little hands.
she smiles proud she got all of my tears before telling me she was going back to her mom, she hugs me one last time before going with pepper.
everyone gives me their condolences before doing their own thing with their loved ones.
i sit down on the platform and take my heels off, i look out into the distance and think about all the nights tony and i spent out here.
i feel footsteps coming up to me, i look back and see pepper right behind me. she takes her heels off and sit next to me, she grabs my hand a squeezes it.
“he loved you a lot” she says and i laugh sadly “he always talked about how strong willed and beautiful you are, and don’t even get me started on how much he talked about your hair” she says and we both share a laugh.
“thank you” she thanks catching me by surprise, she laughs lightly before squeezing my hand “thank you for taking care of him for all of these years, i’m glad he found you” she says and i smile.
“it was my pleasure” i say and she smiles.
we both get up and grab our heels before walking into the house to talk to everyone before they had to go.
when everyone left i was alone in the house, i looked around and saw pictures of tony and i around the house. i walked into the kitchen and saw my name in tony’s handwriting on it, i opened it and unfolded the paper and saw a note.
my dearest y/n,
if you’re reading this we got half of life back and i met my untimely demise. i want you to know that this was never my plan and i just took my chance to bring half of humanity back or erase the big purple giant from existence.
i’m sorry for leaving you, morgan and the kid behind but i want them to know that i did this for them.
please let the kid know that i did this for him, he was my main motivation to do this whole time heist thing. please tell the kid i’m proud of him, he needs to hear it. take care of him, make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid like i did ... just keep him in check for me.
and as far as morgan well... good luck, she’s just like me and that’s going to drive you up a damn wall. last night when i was talking to her she told me how much she loved you but is scared to tell you because she doesn’t think you’ll say it back, i hope she tells you soon if she hadn’t already.
and lastly you.
don’t cry over me too much unless you want to then go ahead.
but seriously i love you, i love you more than words can describe. i’m sorry that i left so quickly but i’m always there with you and i always will be, i will always be with you no matter what because i promised to be there before and after death at our wedding and i meant that.
i’m not going to tell you not to move on in life because that’s selfish of me, if you don’t want to that’s fine i’m smiling at you where ever i am.
thank you for loving me unconditionally for all of these years and putting up with me and i’m sorry for our time running short, but we’ll meet again i’m sure of it.
love,
tony

panic
that all i could feel when steve didn’t return, my breathing picked up as i looked around frantically. “sam, y/n” bucky called pulling us out of our panicked states.
sam and i walked over to bucky, i followed buckys gaze and saw an older man sitting on a bench.
steve.
that’s who it was, i felt my heart shatter into a million pieces as i realize he went back to her after five years of being engaged.
the three of us walk over to him, standing a couple of feet behind. sam walked over to him as bucky pulled me into his side rubbing my arm, i shed a few tears as i wrapped my arm around his back and laid my head on his shoulder.
after sam gets done talking to steve he walks over to bucky and i “he wants to talk to you” sam tells me and i nod.
bucky and i let go of each other, he nods before i walk over to steve. i walk around the bench and sit next to him, i stare straight ahead trying to keep myself together.
i feel steve’s hand grab mine and squeeze, that’s all it takes for me to breakdown. i grip onto his hand lightly before looking at him, i smile sadly and he does the same.
“i’m sorry i left you” he apologized and i shake my head as i wipe my tears.
“you did what you had to do and you look happy” i say and he smiles “she was your soulmate, you can’t deny that type of love” i say but he doesn’t respond.
“i see you still have it on” he said referring to my engagement ring.
“yeah, it still hasn’t sunk in that we’re broken up” i admit and he chuckles
“i loved you, don’t ever think that i didn’t” he says and i feel a pang in my heart as he uses past tense.
“i know, i know” i say patting his hand lightly “you loved her more though and i knew, i knew that this day would come” i says and he nods.
“i’m happy you got to be with her” my voice cracks as i speak to him, he gives me a sympathetic look.
“thank you and i really do hope you find happiness” he says and i smile sadly.
we both get up, we hug each other before we both go out separate ways. i walk back over to sam and bucky, bucky pulls me into a hug and i cling onto his body as i sob into his chest.
i knew it was coming it was bound to happen, we weren’t supposed to work out.
it was just a matter of time until we had to say goodbye.

watching someone you love falling in love with someone else hurts, and experiencing that first hand was never easy.
i walked into the kitchen after waking up and grabbed a bottle of water, i opened it up and guzzled it down feeling the coolness spread through my body.
as i was drinking my water nat came in wearing bucky’s red henley, she smiles at me before sitting down. i feel a pang in my chest seeing her in his red henley, i tried to shake it off but i was still hurt.
bucky and i had been or were bestfriends for a while, we were at one point in time inseparable. when natasha came back from wherever she was, bucky caught feelings and left me in the dust.
after a while they started dating and he came to me about everything, from gifts to how to ask her to be his girlfriend.
i did my best to hide how hurt i was but soon enough tony caught on, them steve, then sam, then vision, until eventually everyone but nat and buck found out.
after a while everyone but bucky was in the kitchen talking, i drank my water in silence listening in on conversations. as i was finishing my water bucky walked in and kissed nat on her cheek, before sitting next to me.
i didn’t feel like sitting and listening to their conversation about whatever so i got up and left without a word. i walked into my room and shut the door behind me before locking it, i asked friday to turn on soundproof mode so no one could hear me.
i slid down my door and let out a loud sob, i felt hot tears steam down my face as i sobbed. i sobbed for hours until i felt fatigue hit me in waves.
i got up and unlocked my door before walking to my bed, i close my eyes and soon enough i fall into a dreamless sleep.
when i wake up it’s around ten, i get out of bed and walk into the living room to see everyone watching a movie. i walk over to the couch and sit next to wanda, i lay my head on her shoulder and she lays her head on top of mine.
as we’re watching the notebook bucky and natasha come out of the elevator with smiles on their faces, it takes everything in me to get up and walk into my room.
i walk into the kitchen and walk right back out as i see natasha and bucky kissing each other, as i walk into the living room everyone can see the hurt look on my face. i walk over to the couch and sit back down next to wanda, and she frowns.
“what are you guys watching” bucky asks walking into the living room with natasha clinging onto him.
“the notebook” peter answers, his eyes still focused on the tv.
of course they join in and of course they sit next to me, if it wasn’t for steve mouthing ‘stay’ i would have left.
at the end of the movie i’m crying into wanda’s shoulder and she was rubbing my back “i hate this movie” i say through tears making everyone laugh.
hearing bucky’s laugh made me cry ever harder “alright i’m calling it a night” i mumble as i get up but i feel his hand wrap around my wrist “come on stay” he pleads and i notice everyone looking at me. i try to hold my tears back but i just cry more.
“i’m sorry but i can’t” i say and he removed my hand from his grasp, i quickly walked out of the living room into my room.
i shut the door behind me and once again sobbed, not even bothering to ask friday to turn on soundproof mode.
i figured it was time to move on but it wasn’t as easy as you thought.

“hi sweetheart” she giggles at the nickname making me smile.
“i like you’re hair, it’s soooo curly” i smile at her compliment, i see her eyes sparkle as she looks at my hair.
“why thank you and i like yours too, the tiara makes you look likes a pretty princess” she giggles at my compliment.
“i’m cassie” she holds her tiny hand out and i shake it.
“i’m y/n” i say and she squeals making me giggle.
“we’re friends now” she declared and i smile, she runs away and yells “daddy i made a new friend” i giggle at her excitement.
“and who could that be peanut” her dad asks as she pulls him towards me.
he’s very handsome and i can tell he has a great personality based off of his daughter.
“daddy this is my new friend, y/n” cassie announced and he looks up, his eyes widen as i smile.
“hi nice to meet you...” i trail off not knowing his name.
“scott and it’s nice to meet you as well” he smiles at me and i smile back feeling warmth spread in my chest.
a year and a half later
“i’m gonna get you” scott yelled goofily as i ran around with cassie on my back.
“he’s picking up speed” cassie yells through her giggles.
“cassie hold on” she tightens her grip around my neck and waist.
i turn around stopping scott in his tracks, i grab his chin and kiss him catching him off guard. i pull away and run off with cassie down the hall.
“that wasn’t fair” scott yells making cassie and i giggle as we run upstairs, i walk into her room and kneel beside her bed so she can get off of my back and get into her bed.
“alright sweetheart get some sleep” i tuck her in and make sure she’s good before kissing her forehead.
i turn her nightlight on and turn her light out before meeting scott at the doorway “night peanut” he says pulling me into him.
“night daddy, night y/n” she mumbles sleepily before scott closes the door, leaving to cracked slightly.
scott and i walk into his room and he pulls me in for a kiss, i wrap my arms around his neck deepening the kiss.

it has been two years since i had last been in that tower, steve had sent me on a long mission which required me to live a different life.
i was excited to come back and see everyone. no one but steve knew where i was and i had contact with absolutely no one but steve.
i walked into the tower with my suitcases and look around the tower, it looks the same as when i left.
i heard talking coming from the kitchen, i walk towards the kitchen quietly and stood in the doorway quietly.
i cleared my throat and everyone looked towards me, i swear tony’s eyes almost popped out of his head when he saw me.
peter got out of his seat and ran over to me, hugging me. after peter everyone piled in to make a a big group hug. eventually everyone pulls away from the hug and bombards you with questions.
as i’m talking with everyone i hear tiny giggles and a goofy roar come into the kitchen, i look up and see bucky holding a child in his arms.
i notice the little girl cock her head as she looks at me. her eyes are blue and her hair is reddish-brown, the perfect mixture of her parents.
i smile at her and she smiles back holding out her arms to me, bucky puts her down and she waddles over to me. i pick her up and sit her in my lap, her hands immediately go to hair playing with the curls.
“we’ll give you two a moment alone” steve says guiding everyone out of the kitchen, leaving bucky and i alone.
“so how is it, married life” i ask and he sits down next to me,
“it’s great” he admits and i smile.
“you finally got it, the family you wanted” i look at him and he nods.
“yeah, i’m a full time family man” he jokes and i laugh
“what’s her name” i ask looking at the little girl.
“sarah rebecca barnes” he says and i smile before looking at him.
“its beautiful” he smiles at my response.
“i’m happy finally, it feels nice” he says and i smile
