So far, I’m really enjoying my new drawing tablet :)
(BadApple)
There's a good reason why Arlana sometimes calls her "brat" often....
Some doodles before work of Bad being a dork...
Pen and a few of her employees
Pen is in charge of a place where souls go to work off their "debts" if they owe any. After a soul has finished paying off their debt, they have a few options:
1) They can be reincarnated
2) They can simply pass on and cease to exist
3) They can stay and are given a monster form
Arlana calmly arcs a brow as she watches their face twist into a grimace, shoulders shuddering as the steaming mug of black coffee is placed back onto the table before it's pushed away. The Author stares at the cup as if it somehow personally offended them.
But knowing the deity as well as she did, it wouldn't surprise her to find out that's true.
"It's coffee..." Arlana drawls slowly as she raises her own cup to her lips, "Not poison."
The scowl deeps as they continue to stubbornly glare at the cup, arms folding at their chest with a quiet huff. Their bottom lip juts out in a childish pout and Arlana waits almost expectedly for a retort she knows is coming. It's mumbled out under their breath but the words are spoken loud enough for her to hear, "Could've fooled me..."
The Autumn afternoon found the streets decorated in colors of red and gold as the two of them sat outside a local coffee shop not far from Arlana's apartment. The Author had popped by earlier in the day to see if she wanted to go grab a coffee which wouldn't have been an odd request coming from anyone other than a deity. It was a little strange at first, the request feeling abnormally...normal...from their usual crazier ones. But they simply shrugged, explaining that it was merely because it's been a while since they had any and figured she would appreciate something normal for a change.
And while the gesture was oddly kind of them, Arlana can't help but to wonder how long it's been since they've had one if their disgusted response of the bitter liquid was anything to go by.
"If you don't like coffee-"
"I do though!" The Author cuts her off, head finally lifting to look her way, "But this stuff tastes like shit!"
"Language."
The scent of coffee mingled with the crisp air and dew, the ground still damp from the rain last night. Arlana picks up the crunching of leaves as people went about their business, drowned only by their chattering that blended together into a single white noise.
There was something pleasant about it all as it lulled her comfortably.
"Ugh, I can make a better cup of joe than this..." Arlana narrows cool gray eyes over the rim of her cup, there's no way she's trusting them to do that after they nearly burnt her kitchen trying to get cereal.
How that even happened was beyond her.
"You aren't stepping a foot in my kitchen so forget it."
"Well maybe next time, you can take me to a better coffee shop."
A cheeky grin stretches their lips as Arlana blinks at them with mild surprise before she tilts her head back to stare up at the clear blue sky.
She wonders about what the deity does when they aren't trying to drag her off on an adventure, when they aren't explore new worlds filled with wild wonders and thrills. Arlana knows they get lonely but how often were they like that? How long were they like that?
How many times did they have to say goodbye to people they've found companionship with?
"Uh, Arely?" The woman is startled from her thoughts, looking to see a face falsely youthful staring at her quizzically, "The sky ain't gonna fall just cause I wanna do something normal once in a while."
"Just making sure."
Dark blue eyes lift upwards in mocking exasperation, "You're lucky I enjoy your company."
She can't help how a smile tugs the corners of her mouth, hiding it behind her cup. Despite the tone, their words were said with honesty.
And Arlana enjoys their company too.
I don't have a name for him yet, I'm thinking Skelly, but he helps Pen with finances cause she knows jack all on how to manage funds
Author makes questionable purchases...
Pen enjoys saying good morning to everyone she meets
Nothing will stop Pen from befriending
I just wanted to draw Author giving sass
Quick doodles of the girls: Pen, Author, and Arlana
Author to Arlana: You're my friend, my bestest bud, my amiga-
Arlana to Author: You set my kitchen on fire last Saturday trying to make a grilled cheese....
"Willis Henry Durand! You're in so much trouble when I find your ass!"
The two boys freeze, eyes wide at the enraged voice booming from upstairs before the younger one blinks, slowly turning his dark eyes to stare at Pim, "...Your name is Willis?"
"My sister is coming down here to kill me and that's what you're concerned with?!"
10 RANDOM FACTS ABOUT "THE HAND OF GOD"
The Hand of God consist of 5 members, each one represented by the phalanges on a human hand: The Judge (Thumb), The Leader (Index), The Rebel (Middle), The Maiden (Ring), and The Scholar (Pinky). They use their titles in substitution of their real names (Rebel being the exception as they use other titles as their names: Old Man, King, Author, Nurse, and Teach respectively). Funny enough, they weren't the ones to give themselves those titles - it was an organization who bares no title themselves.
While they're called "The Hand of God", they don't consider themselves Gods - despite the fact each one has created a realm (or two) themselves.
Each member represents a different aspect to life: judgement (Judge), leadership (Leader), individuality (Rebel), kindness (Maiden), and knowledge (Scholar).
Leader and Maiden get along the best out of everyone, Judge and Rebel can barely stay in the same room for two seconds without getting into an argument. Scholar has very neutral relationships with the rest of the group due to the fact they aren't at the Sanctuary very often.
Judge and Leader are males, Maiden is female. Rebel and Scholar are often referred to as "they" either due to the fact they forgot which one they are (Scholar) or simply because they don't care (Rebel), their physical appearance suggest either though Rebel states they are female (but only to a rare select few, not including the other members).
Rebel is the only one who doesn't actually remember where they're from but Leader is the only one who still visits their place of origin. The Judge and Maiden spend most of their time at the Sanctuary (unless called to somewhere else) while the Scholar travels from one realm to the next.
Rebel is the youngest member in terms of how long they've been a part of the group, their actual age is unknown. The youngest for known age is Leader. The oldest member (both in terms of known age and membership) is Judge.
While they all share the same general powers with one another, they all either specialize or use them in different ways. Maiden specializes in healing and health (hence Rebel's nickname, Nurse). Scholar and Rebel's focus are mostly in information though it's obtained in different ways - while Scholar prefers the "natural" way (just letting things happen), Rebel prefers manipulating things in order to learn or to get a specific outcome. Leader and Judge have no specific area they specialize in or focus on, instead using their powers based on their beliefs - whether an action will help others (Leader) or if it'll make them morally right (Judge).
Due to the fact they're willing to use/distort the reality of a realm (thus possibly destroying it), Rebel is considered the most dangerous out of them (despite being the emotionally weakest one). This doesn't mean the other members have the potential to be just as dangerous, it simply means Rebel has no problem with being that dangerous.
Judge has a green thumb yet has trouble with mathematics (he can do math, it just takes a little longer than others). Leader loves sappy romance novels yet he's allergic to peanuts. Rebel collects stamps but can't cook to save their life. Maiden will pet any creature (dangerous or not) she comes across but can't swim. Scholar loves the taste of mint but doesn't know how to draw.
AU and their weird food preferences
Despite their fondness for jelly beans, Author actually doesn't have a sweet-tooth. They don't mind chocolate but it's not something they go crazy over, they don't like caramel or nougat, gum is okay on certain occasions. Whenever Author and Arlana or Pim go out for coffee, they always their cup black - no cream, no milk, no sugar. Like their soul.
Pim suspects he's allergic to some kind of spice but he's not sure what (and too lazy to actually go get it checked, much to Arlana's dismay). As such, he tends to stay away from most spicy dishes. He's also not a fan of how spicy food hurts afterwards but if it's mild enough, he's fine with it.
Arlana has always been the most adventurous when it came to food - not so much because she's very fond of food, more so for the experience. That and her inability to say "no" whenever her kind old neighbour gives her a batch of fresh baked cinnamon raisin cookies. Arlana also isn't very fond of raisins. For reasons.
Pen doesn't like anything too chewy or crunchy (like gum or carrots). She finds the textures unpleasant and one time, she choked on a piece of jerky Pim gave her. So there's that. Pen loves licorices, not to anyone's surprise.
