At some point, you give up. You stop flailing, pushing—trying. You let the water surround you, consume you, fill you from inside-out and let your eyes fall close. The darkness encloses you, your vision even under closed lids—dims and water fills your lungs as you welcome the weightless, lifeless feeling. 

The water surrounding you feels soft on your skin, makes you feel like it was caressing you, embracing you—one last time. 

As your senses dull further, your fingers uncurl, the grip of your fist loosening, as your fingers search for something beyond, past where you are now—A release, you think groggily.

Your fingers splay aimlessly around you, seeking the end and before the darkness can completely consume you under, you think you feel something grasp them. Your thoughts are fuzzy and you can’t hone in on it, but you feel as something, intertwines with them and pulls.

'Probably the fishes.’ Is your last thought before the darkness finally closes in and pulls you under its clutches and your thoughts cease.
