Welcome To The Introduction (yippee)
Welcome to the introduction (yippee)
I'm Philip/A/yello. I enjoy writing, art, science, and this is the blog focused on my personal brain worms.
My big brain worm is worldbuilding, and the world you are seeing is the World of All (placeholder name). World of All is placed on a single planet with multiple 'continents' that host independently evolved ecosystems and currently 4,5 sophonts/"aliens". This unique setup is all thanks to the Designers, mindless blobs that have managed to keep their landmasses isolated for billions of years (among other things). As a bonus, some of the blob physical manipulation is left in the sophont creatures' brains who have yet to understand physics on a deeper level.

Here are the 5 (O.s are having a redesign session). Mole stars have not made contact with the rest.

Which one of your creatures tastes best when cooked?
I was planning to do a bit more than this but sadly my mind is not doing the thing (the focus). Also- the "tastes the best" here only applies to some people of a single species.
This is a parasitic fruit (it does not aid in reproduction of the plant) you only really see once a year. It's often hard to spot and even harder to harvest at the right time as it's one of the few mobile fruits that changes its host plant regularly. (And when ripe it explodes and rots away very fast.)
However, because of its size, rarity, and traits, it's considered a delicacy. If you were to compare it to human foods, this fruit is fatty, very sweet and the bottom part can taste quite meatlike.
It's best served steamed or 'grilled' with raw eggsseeds. No seasoning added. Don't overcook it or it becomes mushy inside.
Can be made into gourmand alcohol.
Foru flora fruit reproduction - for context: The fruit of Foru trees is alive. Small flying animals, sometimes difficult to see with a naked eye, spread 'pollen' (sometimes also spores/seeds) of plants and later some of them attach themselves to a new plant. There they begin injecting the plant with signals that make it start feeding them. As the small organism matures it loses its eyes, legs and stops producing wastes. The plant, now connected firmly to the animal grows it's seeds inside the animal, using it as protection and 'incubator' of those seeds. In the meanwhile the fruit also gets fertilized and produces eggs in its top layer. While it depends on species, most often a ripe fruit dies and opens its back to release hundreds of small frying creatures. The remaining fruit might get eaten by another animal or fall on a comfy spot where seeds can start growing.
These designs might not be final. Still working out Foru flora.
The silhouette creature competition is over. The winners are here!
The winner is @beeb-oob and their neat slug thing! I just really loved the shapes and colors of this creature. Additionally to the creature, I will draw a character of choosing for beeb-oob.
The award for favorite silhouette use goes to Cool Bug Design by @thegreathailstorm. The jaws becoming the butt of the creature is very badass.
The award for the goofiest goober goes to The Sniffler by @selkra-souza. This goober is just extremely silly.
And the rest of the participants! (If I forgot anyone please inform me). The choices were difficult with so many awesome designs and awesome worldbuilding. If I had more time I would draw more of them.
To note, only the winner gets an extra art this time. I am one slow drawer.
I thank you all so much for participating. It was so much fun seeing what you came up with. I hope something similar can happen soon again, maybe with a different focus.
Once again a creature from the continent of Slomen. A very primitive but also very specilised critter. 6 to 30 cm long, wet roots up to 45cm.
They live in many aquatic environments but most often you will find them in forest rivers and lakes. Some species have even adapted for life in the sea and could be considered fully aquatic while still air breathing.
Majority of the clade feeds on small animals like invertebrates sometimes parts of plants they can digest. Their hunting strategy is either burst swimming, jumping or just sliding on top of some slow prey.
There were two important species that started life on land, with the leaf ancestor being a smaller, less land specilised of the two. Leafs are one of their earliest evolutionary branches as land vertebrates and have retained many acient features like paw suckers and teeth instead of claws. In bigger vertebrates most of these little teeth were lost and became true claws or fingers (even present on the other land climber ancestor).
They can actually eat with their feet that are still closely connected to their stomach. But it applies only to very small food particles.
The wets are not very culturally significant but some regions do eat them. But the thick mantle isn't very tasty. In some places they symbolise good harvest season.
These little guys are also related to the 'birds' of Elve and I'm sure you can see why.
Is heterochromia a common thing in Ifey? Merilin appears to have a brown upper pair and a differently colored lower eye.
As disappointing as it is, I can't answer this. I'm still redesigning the O.s and don't know how much of their past image will stay. They might also end up with different sort of eyes since I'm trying to make all my sophonts have different "seeing system" since eyes are such an important thing in human perception of alien. Or at least to me.
Ah, theme things.
Merilin will loose her human name and her very human clothes. (Since naming like that isn't very realistic even for slomen.
(Neal has an excuse, it's a simple name okaaayy)
Picture for @styllwaters! The raffle winner.
I really like the design of the character and they were very fun to draw.
This is a bit of an experimental style for me but something painterly seemed more appropriate for a 1k raffle heh.
I hope it's liked! (Styll, if there is something to fix you can tell me and I will edit it!)
...
I hope to do this some other time soon to draw other people's creturas.
Unrelated to this part of the raffle, the silhouette competition is still going until the 9th. Rules are in my main -raffle post- and you can see some of the submissions on my secondary account @yellos2. As a confirmation, I will be drawing the winning creature and something smaller of the winner's choosing.
