I Jumped With Joy When Reading This

Hi lea!!!! Can you write about an clarisse la true x apollo!reader
Clarisse got in trouble for something (what's new tho) and got a punishment of helping out with the little demigods art class for 2 weeks (or however long) the volunteer teacher is reader. At first Clarisse did NOT wanna be there she acted like a baby for the first few days but after she got more involved and started to understand she enjoyed it (she would never admit it), she started talking to the kids more (she totally has favorites, reader has to constantly tell her dont be so obvious about her favorites 😭) it got to a point where the kids would start talking to her outside of class. Also Clarisse definitely doesn't develop a crush on reader. AT ALL. SHE DEFINITELY HATES HOW PASSIONATE SHE IS ABOUT THE KIDS AND ART AND HOW GOOD SHE IS WITH KIDS SHE DOESN'T THINK ITS CUTE AT ALL. SHE DOESNT THINK OF THAT CLASS AS ONE BIG FAMILY. I mean what???? Who said that???
Anyways when it's time for her to go reader takes some of the kids to make a goodbye sign for clarisse; clarisse takes her 100% not favorite kid on a secret mission to make an 'I'm staying' sign. Then reader and Clarisse present them at the same time and it's all cutesy!! After class, reader asks clarisse on a date via showing her a pain she drew of them on a date and hopes she gets the message!
Thank you! :)

The camp was usually sleepy, quiet, and mostly empty apart from a few stray campers training here and there. But with summer already beating down with a burning force, it was full of kids running around, training left right and center, and all-in-all just general chaos.
So with the burning heat came grumpy older campers, which meant fights.
And a fight at lunch is what led to Clarissa having to help the younger campers with art class, with the co-teacher being none other than you, Y/n L/n, counsellor of the Apollo cabin. Additionally and otherwise known as the girl Clarisse was smitten with.
"Clarisse La Rue if you don't stop whining like that right now, I am going to smack you," you grumbled in utter frustration for the fifth time that hour, when she complained to you about some kid not cutting the paper the way it was supposed to be cut.
For a child of the god of war, she was such a wuss sometimes.
"But they're not following-" she began to protest, but a smack upside the head with a roll of wrapping paper shut her up.
"They're seven year olds in a summer camp art class," you emphasised on those facts. "They're gonna do their own thing!"
This was how the first few days went. She complained, you disciplined both her and the kids. But once she got used to the whole routine of you both giving instructions and the final products having irritatingly distinct variations, she cooled down.
If this was going to be a punishment for the next two weeks, she might as well enjoy it.
The art room, as usual, was a mess. Glitter was everywhere, coloured pencils were strewn around, papers were on the floor, blackened and trampled on. The strong scent of glue made everyone a bit woozy, and there was enough shouting for supplies across the table to give even the calmest camper a sensory overload.
Clarisse sat in the danger zone where the most glitter was being thrown around and spilled, and her soft skin was already glimmering with purple and red glitter as she tried restoring order. However, instead of yelling as usual she was laughing along with the little kids.
One kid in particular, you noticed, she helped far more than the others. A Hephaestus kid named Dennis, who was the sweetest little thing with big, round glasses and bronze hearing aids that you had Charlie customise so they looked like metal elf ear tips.
You pulled Clarissa aside and scolded her with a smile, “Clar, you cannot pick favourites!”
Clarissa loved your smile with everything she had. So naturally, she was so captivated by it that she didn't hear you the first time. Nor did she register the scolding.
"Excuse me, but Dennis deserves special treatment--" She began, but you cut her off.
"No, he's just like the other kids, okay? Just make sure you don't pick favourites, please," you sighed and walked away, going back to showing the kids how to make paper butterflies.
But you're my favourite, she thought to herself. She wished she had the courage to say it out loud, admit her feelings for you, but she couldn't.
Later, as time went by, as days of standing in clouds of glitter and glue fumes began and ended, Clarisse found that she was apparently likeable. After classes, during training, during dinner, she'd have little kids pulling her sleeve to talk to her, she'd have kids randomly hugging her at odd times of the day, or giving her small artworks like a wonky bird or a odd-looking Cerebrus. It shocked the campers beyond belief.
But for you it just made your love for her grow.
One day during class, a Demeter kid named Flora started to cry because glitter went into her eye. You rushed over immediately and helped her up, holding her in your arms as you took her to the basin to clean her up.
"Shh, don't cry, baby, it's okay, I'm gonna wash it out, alright?" You said softly.
"Guys, focus on your work, Flo's fine," Clarisse said, clapping her hands to direct the staring kids back to work, her eyes fixed on you as you washed Flora's eyes with water gently, telling her that she should not to go so close to the page when blowing glitter off in the softest voice the child of war had ever heard.
You were so gentle, like the softest summer breeze which didn't make the leaves rustle, but cooled one's warming skin. You were so precious, with your soft smile and loving words. Your voice was sweet like honey, no matter who you talked to or how.
If your voice was bottled, she swore to the gods that she'd get drunk on it every night.
"You okay, champ?" She asked, gently ruffling Flora's soft brown hair as the girl sat down. "You're a strong girl, aren't you? Showed that stupid glitter it's place."
You giggled at the way she spoke, covering your mouth with your hand to hide it. It was ridiculously obvious that Clarisse thought the kids in the art class were like family, and it was genuinely so adorable.
Seeing her like this, curly hair pulled back in her red bandanna, arms splattered with paint here and there, with glitter shining off her smooth caramel skin with every movement she made into the light, lit up something inside of you. Seeing her without her usual scowl, pulling funny faces with the kids as she showed them how to draw a monster, made your heart beat twice as fast.
However, two weeks went by with heartbreaking speed, and before she knew it, she was in Chiron's office, listening to him gleefully say she was officially un-grounded.
But honestly? She didn't share his happiness.
Nor did you.
"What?! Already!?" You exclaimed that evening as you sat in your cabin at your desk, which had plans put out for what to make for the next art class.
"Yeah," she grumbled, lounging on your bed. "I hate it."
"That's rough, but it's okay, you can always hop in to volunteer,"
"What do we tell the little ones?"
"The truth?"
"You're fucking crazy if you think they'll go with it,"
"I'm out of options, Clar," you leaned back in your chair and put your hands over your eyes. "I love that class, and I love teaching art."
"I know, and as much as I hate to admit it," she sat up. "So do I."
The very next day, Clarisse rushed to Chiron and begged him to let her stay for that class. Even going to lengths that she told him how she felt for you.
"Fine," he relented. "You can stay with the class for as long as you'd like,"
She'd never run to the forges to find a kid so fast.
"Beckendorf!" She exclaimed, looking at the cabin counselor. "Hey, where's Dennis?"
The boy looked around, and his eyes landed on Dennis, who was inquisitively watching one of his half-sisters mold a few practice swords, helping occasionally with putting the swords in water.
"Dennis!" Beckendorf exclaimed, "Clarisse wants to talk to you!"
Dennis immediately ran over, grinning broadly, showing his gap-toothed smile. "Hi, Clarisse!" He said, excitedly.
"Hey there, big boy!" She smiled back, giving him a high five. "So listen, I'm going to need your insane artistic skills and your help..."
While you did help the other kids make a 'goodbye' sign for Clarisse, on the side you decided to confront your feelings.
You knew you liked her from the beginning, from when you first saw her infectious smile, from when you heard her deep laugh reverberating through the empty Apollo cabin on days where you both would plan lessons.
She held the key to your heart, she knew her way past your walls. She clearly also knew how to remain in your thoughts, subconscious and conscious, to the point where you found yourself in the art studio, canvas on an easel before you.
Thoughts of her, of feeling her coarse, battle-worn hands on your skin, of gazing into those deep brown eyes which were like the colour of the rain-kissed earth, and when she fought were like the evening sun, golden enough to put the wings of Icarus to shame, made your paintbrush move. It made your colours flow like the blood in your veins, made each stroke perfect enough to create the scene you most desired on the canvas in front of you.
You stepped back once you felt the need to express yourself flow away, gazing at the canvas. A scene it held, and what a scene indeed. The sky was cornflower blue, a cloudless day, with the sun’s rays shining down on a big oak tree. The leaves were paler as the golden light kissed the surface, casting sharp shadows on the pillowy grass.
But then there was vivid orange and red, a flash of bronze. In the foreground there sat both you and Clarisse, the latter having more detail than any part of the drawing.
Then the dreaded day came where you all had to say goodbye to her.
The little ones were devastated, not letting Clarisse go anywhere without following her around like baby ducklings, making her explain to them that she's not going away from camp, she's just not going to teach them anymore.
At the end of the final class, just as everyone unveiled the 'we'll miss you' poster, she and Dennis revealed their 'I'm Staying' poster, causing a loud, thunderous cheer to erupt from all of you.
Later, you pulled her aside to give her your canvas painting.
Nerves wracked your body, your palms began to sweat.
When was the last time you had felt this nervous? It was probably your cello recital the day you had come to camp...
"Holy shit, Y/n this looks absolutely amazing!" Clarisse exclaimed, taking the painting in her hands.
She didn't miss the detail you had given her, drawing her angelically, despite her thinking she was the opposite. It was so well done that the brush strokes weren't even visible.
Please get the message, you blockheaded, oblivious fool...you thought.
Deciding to act against your nerves, you asked her in a shaky voice, "That's a painting of us on a date...would you like to go on one with me sometime?"
Clarisse's heart stopped. Had you just asked her out on a date?
She was at a loss for words, they didn't touch her tongue, nor did they pass her lips. She stood there, speechless, gaping at you for a moment too long.
"I mean, I get it, you're probably not even a les--" you began, but a pair of gentle lips on yours silenced your words.
Sparks flew, butterflies went haywire, your brain short-circuited. You didn't know what to doo, just stood there frozen with shock. Kissing the girl you had liked for the last few months now.
Clarisse, however, was ecstatic. Her mind was a burst of colour, her body was ablaze. She felt like she had wings, and her heart was taking her up, up, up.
Once she pulled away, she winked at your blushing face and dopey grin.
"It's a date, L/n."

⭒ HONKAI STAR RAIL MEN AS DADS
fem reader x jing yuan, sunday, dr ratio, blade + aventurine ( seperate ) ; fluff. dad au. random papa scenarios for my maryse. petnames used; my dear, my love. ₊ 𓂃 masterlist.
⭒ JING YUAN
it had become a habit of sorts, an adorable one at that, whenever your husband- the well respected general of the cloud knights would insist that he have some time with your daughter to give you a rest from your usual responsibilities. jing yuan would always ask you with the smoothest drawl, kissing along your cheeks while the little one clung around her daddy’s neck and you can’t deny the affect seeing him being so loving with her had on you, you could hardly resist it.
although it did always end up the same way, you’d come home from your errands- your appointments that you finally managed to squeeze in now that he was home on leave for a few days despite the every growing workload he has. but you’d return home to a quiet house, finding the two sleeping figures of your husband and your daughter curled up on the couch after the hard day you’re sure they’ve had.
but they look peaceful, your daughter pressing around jing yuan’s chest while one of her dads muscled arms keep her there with no trouble. it’s impossible for you to not wind up resting in the couch beside them as you curl up against your husbands chest.
you know he’s awake when his lips curl up into a soft grin almost immediately when he feels you press against him, “long day?” you drawl and he groans, quietly as to not wake the sleeping child.
“hah, oh yes, you didn’t see the tea party. our daughters ability to entertain a crowd is quite awe-inspiring.” you feel your husband, jing yuan’s, free arm drop from the back of the sofa to curl around your shoulders, pulling you closer until your cheek is resting softly on his muscled shoulder. you feel the tension from your day melt away as you snuggle into him.
“you mean her plushies?” you laugh softly and your husband finally decides to peek open his sleepy gaze to admire you, followed by a gentle look towards his daughter that’s still sound asleep against him.
“ofcourse, theyre the guests of honour.” jing yuan speaks teasingly, albeit matter of factly as he raises a brow at you and you snort before leaning in to steal a quick peck from his lips. although you struggle to pull yourself away when he decides to hold you there a little longer, lips lingering on yours as he smiles into the kiss.
but eventually, he relents when you tap playfully on his chest, “well, general- i better start cleaning up.” you smile but his arm around your shoulders only seems to lock around you even tighter. you couldn’t move even if you tried as he gets himself comfortable again, moving your daughter softly until he has both of you squished on either sides of his body.
“nonsense, my dear- i just got quite comfortable, so i’m afraid you can’t leave yet.” jing yuan purrs and you give him a look from beneath your lashes when he rolls his head back again, resting his eyes closed despite the way he’s still grinning softly.
“you going to spend your entire leave from work sleeping?” you tease and his chest bounces slightly when he chuckles.
“hm, well nothing is of utmost importance to me quite like spending time my two favourite girls. so, join me?” he murmurs quickly because he knows you can’t ever say no to them. he’s right, you can’t help but find yourself looking over your drowsy little family fondly as you gaze between your husband and your daughter. she’s like a perfect mixture of you both as her cheek squishes against your husbands chest.
it is almost unfair how easy it is to give in to the both of them as you rest your cheek against the other side.
⭒ SUNDAY
you had no doubts that sunday would be a great father, so when you’d been lucky enough to bare two of his children, you felt more at ease than afraid despite the lifestyle change because you knew you would have him there to take care of you. your children resembled your husband most, his halovian genes with their wings and halo, his eyes - they were perfect mixtures of you both.
they’d taken up your mannerisms and personality despite their fathers looks which unfortunately for your husband.. meant he was weaker to them than some may expect from the head of the oak family. you’d be lying if you said it hadn’t caught you off guard too; but you found it to be quite charming whenever you’d be lucky enough to oversee how they were the ones that seemed to be controlling everything around them.
“we have spoken about this before, my dear. dessert must be saved for after dinner, do you remember? but fret not, your meals will be ready soon.” you hear the smooth sound of sundays voice from the kitchen as you push your way through the door, being greeted by your daughter and son standing at his feet as the two young children cross their arms. their expressions are grumpy and temperamental, although you can’t deny that it definitely mirrors an expression of your own as you try to hide your giggle at the scene.
“we don’t want to wait.” “yeah! we want it right now.” your husband squeezes the space between his brows as the two children back eachothers replies, it makes you wonder how long this conversation has actually been going on when he sighs. it was well known that sunday favoured being in control and although your children were well-behaved- they were just smart enough to have picked up on your husbands seemingly weak spot when it was two against one.
“yes, that is quite understandable. but i cannot allow you to have sweets before proper nutrion, that is not how meals are enjoyed, dessert must come after.” sunday tries again as he stands up straighter and you assume it’s an act of trying to appear much like an authoritive figure. although the gesture is met by a few small stomps of tiny feet as they whine.
“daddy, we want dessert now.” “dessert! dessert! dessert!” the children chant and you swear you can see the strings of your husbands sanity begin to pluck and snap as his shoulders drop, his posture hunching slightly with his next sigh.
“f-fine. we will have dessert first this once. but it sh’ant happen again, is that clear?” sunday huffs despite the fact his weak resolve is met with cheers from your children as you hide your laugh behind your palm in the doorway. it was quite amusing to see the head of the oak family and such a well known public figure fall victim to two pre-schoolers.
you hear sunday grumble again as the children wrap themselves around his legs. “yes, yes. your resilience is quite extraordinary.. i wonder who exactly you get that from.” he scoffs and your husbands gaze lifts to meet yours as he says it. suddenly, you feel yourself edging out of the room while you try to hide your laugh.
although you hear three sets of footsteps quickly follow behind you.
⭒ DR RATIO
becoming a father was a role that seemed to come to ratio rather naturally. especially when you were pregnant, he had done some notable research into things that would make you feel better; to ease your illness, any aches or cravings. he’d looked into all of it and doted on your every beck and call despite how straightforward and blunt he came across to others.
although you did find it rather amusing, when you’d come home one day to find your ever loving husband; cross legged in your toddlers bedroom as he read her through a book regarding something that looks like physics or mathematics. the sight was only made even more charming given the way your daughter only seemed to be more preoccupied with putting the corners of the textbook into her mouth instead of actually listening.
but ratio was always a firm believer that intellect and creativity were not confined to geniuses- although he also believed that no child of his would ever fall victim to idiocy either, he’d make sure of it - although you’re sure he’d love them anyway.
“come now, we are not done here yet. class is still in session.” his voice sounds a few seconds later, a little bit louder but still the soft tone he took with your young daughter. despite his usual tone of voice with others, he never once raised his voice at either of you- even though his words are only met with giggles and gurgles from the baby opposite him as she opts to crawl her way closer.
“to learn this from youth is the most efficient method.” ratio states matter-of-factly as the toddler pulls her way into his lap, he helps her albeit slightly, until her tiny hands are able to reach out and touch the pages before her. “or do you have a superior strategy, pray tell?”
your daughter offers him another gurgle, followed by a blown raspberry and another giggle but your husband only seems to hum like he can understand her. you’re sure if you asked him he’d assure you he absolutely can anyway. “yes that seems logically sound.”
“although for now, we shall continue until otherwise proven that this is ineffective.” ratio brings a hand up to smooth it through his hair but the toddler in his lap is quite eager to follow the movement as she tries to pull herself onto her feet, giggling while wrapping herself around your husbands muscled bicep for stability. “the next.. god, the next one is—“ you watch fondly at the way the genius before you wrestles with her slightly, so concerned incase she falls while also opting to just let his daughter climb all over him as he sits with his textbook eagerly open.
but still despite her few words and drifting attention span, he still continues regardless as she gurgles back at him adorably. “now, now- settle down. don’t interrupt your father, even if you are quite cute, it won’t work on me.” ( it’s definitely working on him )
⭒ BLADE
you’d be lying if you said you hadn’t been atleast a little bit worried about how blade would react to finding out you were pregnant, you were well aware of not only his job but also the person he was. but at the same time, you also trusted him enough given how much love he was able to show you - albeit in his own way.
still, it was a pleasant surprise when your daughter had been born and your lover seemed to have taken his new found position quite well, albeit clumsily. it had taken a while for him to hold her, more out of fear of accidentally hurting or scaring her somehow - but as soon as you finally convinced him to and his touch was met with a very happy, albeit sleepy child; it seems his fear all but evaporated. you’d say he even looked soft in those special moments between father and baby.
blade was a protective father, that much was to be expected and you’re sure even the thought of your daughter dating was enough to send him on a blood-thirsty man hunt. but she was still young and for that he was thankful, her presence alone seems to have softened him up a lot more than you honestly would’ve expected.
but you can imagine even your surprise when you’d stumbled upon your own ( feared by many ) husband resting on the sofa next to your daughter while she clipped sparkly, pink hair clips into his hair. the pair are accompanied by silver wolf as she talks half-heartedly to blade about the upcoming mission. he’s listening, although he’s still quick to follow the child behind hims instructions when she tells him to move over or hold still.
he offers you a look as you approach the three, opting to ignore the giddy smile on your face as another bright pink bow is placed in his hair- although he still leaves a space beside him for you to slot into as always.
it only takes a few moments before your daughter finishes up and she giddily crawls into blade’s lap to snuggle into her fathers chest. your smiling brightly now, he can feel it to the side of him despite the way he deliberately makes no attempt to meet your gaze considering his new hairstyle. “daddy? do you like it?” his child asks eagerly and he grunts before turning his gaze to her.
“yes, it is quite frivolous.” she doesn’t quite understand the word, but she still assumes it means something good as she giggles from her place beneath him. opting to turn around to face away from him a few seconds later before looking back at him over her shoulder.
“kay, you do mine now, daddy!” she says excitedly and blade sends her his usual stoic, unreadable expression as he rests behind her.
“is it necessary?” he grumbles and you nudge at his shoulder with a tsk despite the way your daughter is still seemingly unbothered by his response. she only motions to the leftover ribbons and clips resting at his side before she turns around again, readying herself.
“mhm, then we can match!” you half expect him to say something else, but instead- blade actually opts to reach for one of the clips instead; a reaction that even earns silver wolfs raised brows as he twists the pink sparkly clip between his fingertips.
“hm, i understand. suit yourself.”
⭒ AVENTURINE
aventurine was an amazing father to both of your children, although that was something that you had no doubt about considering how much you knew he would treasure their childhood. they looked like both of you, although they had his eyes and you always found it to be quite magnificent whenever you’d see them blinking up at you, the gaze was quite beautiful and you cherished them immensely.
although given who their father is, it is safe to say that your children are infact spoiled, they’re only dressed in the best clothes ofcourse, have the best toys and accessories. it was one of the ways in which he showed his love for his family, to make sure that you all got whatever you wanted, while also teaching them that what they had should be cherished- so they grew up to be humble.
one thing you’d noticed is that aventurine never hid any parts of his life from them, albeit they were still too young to know the details so as far as they knew; their daddy was just really good at playing games and winning prizes.
he’d even insisted on teaching them how to play cards one night, although the deck of cards ended up falling victim to their artistic doodles a few hours later. but still, your husband couldn’t find it in himself to be mad, instead; the colourful, scribbled deck has become a lucky charm of sorts that he always carries around with him at work or during games.
although today, aventurine has attempted to take the kids to the casino with him, while its still light out to avoid the usual atmosphere that comes with the later night games.
“well this is quite interesting. have you made up your mind yet? turns don’t last forever, you know.” his captivating gaze glints from over his hand, eyeing his opponent intimidatingly as the atmosphere hangs heavy between them. he can pick up on his nervousness, he’s sure he doesn’t have a great card to play - it’s obvious in the sweat along his brow, the way his eyes are darting to each one he holds.
“although it would be quite a shame to lose all of those credits you’ve worked so hard for, wouldn’t it?” still, aventurine teases, his hand isn’t much good either; but aslong as he doesn’t let his opponent know that. this game is as good as his, a piece of cake really. “you should treasure them well, while you can atleast.”
he watches the way his opponents fingertips tremble as they reach for a random card and the gambler scoffs, “it’s all or nothing.” smirking,
“daddy, i like the black spade!” “my favourite is the red diamond, use that one.” the atmosphere in the game is cut suddenly when aventurine’s children suddenly pipe up from where they’re wrapping around his shoulders. although he almost goes pale as soon as they begin to point out his cards, discussing their favourites and what ones he should use like his opponent isn’t suddenly relaxing opposite him at the confession.
“ah, n-now, now. those are daddy’s secret weapons, you’re not supposed to let the man know we have those.” he grins kindheartedly despite the way his hand is suddenly gripping his chips beneath the table. he doesn’t have it in him to snap at them, but he’s pretty sure a little piece of his soul dies when his opponent chuckles. it was a friendly game afterall, just as well, hes been on a winning streak recently.
“but why not! is it bad?” his daughter asks, innocently and aventurine can’t help but soften when he turns to meet them. deciding to place down his cards on the table before he’s taking his hat off of his head and placing it onto his curious daughter’s instead as she blinks up at him. his shoulders relax with how fondly they gaze up at him.
“hah, no it’s… it’s nothing. how about we just go and get some ice cream instead? although.. this nice man was almost the one paying for it.”

⤷ characters: bachira x fem!reader
⤷ summary: bachira has had a crush on reader for months now, but he's never racked up the courage for a full confession. Instead, he throws subtle hints and compliments towards her, hoping she can pick up on his feelings. however, reader is as dense as ever and has absolutely no clue.
⤷ a/n: where's all the good blue lock content??!! wc: 869
"(Y/nnnnnnnn)~~!!!"
You were caught completely off-guard as Bachira jumped onto you seemingly out of nowhere, latching his arms around your neck and wrapping his legs around your hips. He seemed to be in a good mood- he was absolutely beaming.
"Ack..-" You regained your footing and glanced back at him. "What're you doing..?"
"I've missed you!" He leaned forward so his head was closer to yours. After another second of holding onto you, he let go and landed on the soft grass.
"I've only been gone for a few hours..." You turned to face him.
"Doesn't matter!" Bachira smiled before taking a second to look at you.
"..You look nice today."
"Thanks."
Another sarcastic answer. You always sounded that way.. Like you believed he was messing with you, or that he was teasing you as a friend. But he never was. He truly meant everything he was saying to you. He hoped that one day you might take it to heart...
"Did you cut your hair?" He recovered from his brief moment of inner thought, pointing at your hair that seemed to be shorter than it was before.
"Oh, yeah, I did!" You replied, tucking some of your hair behind your ears.
"It looks cute on you."
Another attempt. Another attempt at maybe getting you to notice what he was trying to do here. Maybe you'd notice his change of demeanor.. his quiet words.. something?
"Whatever~" You laughed, ruffling his hair and walking straight past him.
You always laughed things off. Every time he complimented you, got physically close to you, even outright flirted with you, you would just laugh and find some way to change the subject. Did you not believe him? Or were you just that dense...
He watched you walk away with distant eyes. How many times had he told you how attractive you look? How pretty your eyes were... how soft your skin felt. And yet, you never seemed to catch on. He wondered if he was being too subtle, which seemed insane..
"Hey, (y/n).."
He jogged to catch up with you.
"Are you going to the dance on Friday?"
"The dance..?" You shot him a speculative look. "Umm.. I wasn't planning to."
"But you'd look pretty in a dress."
You only shrugged. "They're expensive.. And besides, it takes so much effort to plan and get ready and-"
Bachira watched you talk for a minute before cutting you off.
"You're so dense."
This statement caught you off-guard, and you looked at him in surprise.
"What?"
Bachira seemed to have realized what he said, immediately tensing as you confronted him about it.
"I-I mean..."
He glanced away for a second before looking back at you with more determination. It was too late to back out now... This was the closest he's been to admitting his feelings for you. He had to take this chance.
"Can you really not see what I'm trying to do here? I've been throwing hints at you for forever.."
"Hints?" Your face scrunched up in confusion. Was he saying what you think he's saying..?
"Yes, hints.." Bachira looked directly at you. "I like you. I'm not just being nice, I mean it. I love you."
You froze completely, staring at Bachira like a deer in headlights. Was he being serious? He had never been direct like this before. It made your mind go blank.
"You.. love me?"
Nothing in Bachira's face said that he was lying. He looked completely serious. You were stunned.
The heat of the moment had ended, and Bachira's face softened.
"Do you..."
You swallowed. "I love you too."
Bachira's eyes widened, his mouth hanging open from his unfinished sentence. He suddenly got nervous, his heart skipping a beat as a wave of surprise and excitement washed through him.
You loved him.
Bachira wasn't quite sure what he had been expecting. He had said everything on a whim, relying only on his built-up frustration to communicate his thoughts. But now...
Bachira was suddenly aware how close the two of you were. He felt your hand brush up against his, sending jolts of electricity through his body. He was still stunned, but slowly reached out and interlocked his fingers with yours. He was suddenly aware of how close the two of you were.
Kiss her. Kiss her.
His thoughts echoed in his head, his heart absolutely beating out of his chest. He had been waiting for this for so long.
Slowly, he leaned in- and gently brushed his lips against yours. You responded to him, leaning forward ever-so-slight and kissing him more firmly.
Bachira moved his hand to cup the side of your face, his brain feeling fuzzy as he focused entirely on the sensation of the kiss. His heart was racing, even as he pulled away.
You had just kissed. That meant.. his confession had paid off. He finally had you. You were finally his...
Your eyes were so beautiful.
That was the only thought he could manage as he looked at you. When he did finally collect himself, his face lit up, and he laughed.
"Ha-ha! You're all flustered.."
"Seriously?!"
You pushed him affectionately, a smile spreading across your face.
The smile that was now his.
heyyyy ryyyyy <333

You knew this would happen. Once your relationship with Bruce got out there would be an influx of love and hate. You also knew that everyone else knew that as well. It was common knowledge than anyone around a celebrity of sorts would experience that.
Of course you did the normal things, turned off most notifications and only looked through areas online you knew would mostly be safe. You blocked tags and and only followed people you knew or ones who didn’t post about drama.
When you did stumble onto hate, you moved on. If someone kept sending you nasty messages you blocked them, when they made other accounts to keep sending the same things, you changed your settings so only those you followed could message you.
It wasn’t something you wanted to deal with but it was something you could handle. Something you started mentally preparing yourself for when Bruce’s attention on you lasted more than 4 dates, even more so when you caught yourself daydreaming about him.
You were not going to let random bitter people on the internet destroy your happiness like they did their own. Your family however, wanted to destroy what was left of your haters' happiness. Something you were trying to curb, but trying to tell a family of vigilantes who considered you the best mom in existence not to destroy your haters was like talking to a brick wall. Over the years, you had gotten used to it. It barely even registered anymore. But there had been a recent influx of the hate and while it didn’t bother you, it bothered the rest of your family. None of them could stand people talking bad about their mom.
While you hadn’t been there while the older ones were young, the second you had introduced yourself to them, you had taken a very important role in their lives. None of them realizing it at first. All of them had gotten used to the random women Bruce brought home that it took a little while for them to realize how important you were.
Dick wasn’t sure at first. Thinking you were just another girlfriend that wouldn’t last long. So he didn’t really interact with you much. Ignoring your existence when it wasn’t too rude, or at least obviously rude. Until one night when he was staying at the manor and had a nightmare about his parents death.
Bruce had an open bed policy. As long as there was still room for him, his bed was open. A policy he had started when Dick had gotten old enough he was worried he wouldn’t be allowed to go when he had a nightmare. Bruce had always reminded all his kids, that nightmares don’t go away just because you’re older and that needing comfort wasn’t something they would outgrow.
The thing was, you were there. Girlfriends didn’t mind when children did it but they never liked it when his adult kids did it. The shaking in his hands and the way he saw them fall in the darkness of every blink told him the only way he was getting any sleep was with someone.
Hopefully he could just slip into Bruce’s side and leave before you woke up. That was the plan until he found Damian on Bruce’s side and you had been pulled closer to Bruce taking up what was left. You moved a little and Dick took that as his sign to deal with it himself until he heard you whisper his name. He hummed so you knew it was him and not some random stranger standing over Bruce’s side of the bed.
“Nightmare?”
“Yeah.”
“Come on.” You lifted the blanket next to you, “Bruce told me you guys come here when you have nightmares. There's plenty of room over here for you.” Dick hesitated for a second before giving in. He needed sleep anyway. You weren’t when you said there was plenty of room, Dick had most of your half of the bed. Once he had settled on his side, facing away from you, he felt you pull the blanket over his shoulders.
“Night Dick, sleep well.” For some reason, that was what did it. Once the tears started they didn’t stop. Silent sobs made him shudder and he felt one of your hands gently rubbing his back. “Oh Dick.” There was no pity in your tone and he found himself rolling over and curling into you. Your chin resting on his head while you rubbed his back.
The next day, he followed you around like a puppy. Your side of the bed became his favorite when he had nightmares and it wasn’t long before he turned to you for general comfort over anything.
Jason met you at his grave. Neither of you exchanged words, but he caught something in your gaze he didn’t quite understand. He also wasn’t sure why you were at his grave either, he didn’t know you when he was younger.
When he saw the Gotham News post about Bruce and Your 2nd anniversary, it brought more questions than answers. Why were you at his grave alone? Let alone longer than a few seconds. It was an odd way to gain more of Bruce’s affections.
Every Tuesday you would be there, leaving flowers and talking softly to the stone. Every time you left, you would smile and nod, the look in your eyes he couldn’t figure out was still there. Every time he would strain to heat what you were saying and only be able yo a few words here and there.
6 months into it, the routine changed. You brought a blanket and Basket with your usual flowers. You did what you normally did with the flowers but instead of talking to the stone you waved him over. When he didn’t move, you stopped what you were doing and looked at him.
“Jason Todd, I have been keeping your secret for 6 months. Helping me spread this blanket and having lunch won’t change it.” He stared at you while you waited expectantly. Eventually when he could get himself to move, he came over and helped. He sat down where you motioned for him too, all while trying to figure out how you knew.
“Bruce mentioned this used to be your favorite when you were younger so I asked Alfred to teach me how to make it. I hope it's up to your standards.” He looked at the plate of food you handed him. It was almost overflowing with food, all of which reminded him of the good times back at the manor before he died. “Alfred also sent your favorite cookies when he heard I would be eating at your grave.” The bag of cookies was placed next to the basket, within easy reach.
“Why?” Was all Jason managed to choke out around the lump in his throat.
“I decided early on in life, no matter who I was with, I would love their family as my own. My grandfather hated my grandmothers side and it caused a lot of pain in all the generations. I decided I would never do that to another family.” Jason found himself back in control enough to start eating.
“So when I started dating Bruce and he told me about you, I decided to treat you like you were my own. Even though I had never met you and you were dead. Most of what that meant was keeping your grave clean and always making sure there were fresh flowers. While I did that, I would tell you everything that was going on.”
“How did you know it was me?”
“Your eyes, they may be a different color but they looked too similar. So I did a little digging and found pictures of your biological pictures to place the face shape it matched. I think however you look more like Bruce then either of them.”
“Are you going to tell them?”
“As much as I would love to. It’s your choice. You’ve been keeping this to yourself for a reason. If I can help you get to a place to tell them, I would love to. But I won’t say a word until you're ready. However, I would like to keep having lunch with you.”
A year later, Jason reintroduced himself to the rest of the family a lot calmer than originally planned and was glued to your side anytime he felt overwhelmed that night. Every Tuesday after that, lunch was scheduled.
Tim was nervous when it came to you. He was still living in the manor so he saw you more than the older two. You always seemed nice and respected his privacy but Bruce was always with you so you obviously would.
It was when he wasn’t around that worried Tim. Bruce attracted golddiggers and they were always mean when Bruce wasn’t there. When you were given a copy of the key, Time braced himself.
Of course he knew that if he told Bruce anything that happened like that, Bruce would break it off. He had always told them that they came first. But he also knew that Bruce liked you a lot. All the other ones Bruce liked a lot that turned out to be horrible, he broked it off. Tim had seen how it had made him upset and he really hated doing that to him. Maybe he could deal with it for once.
So when Bruce left for a business trip, Tim was Expecting the worst. What he didn’t expect was for you to knock on his door and ask if you could join him. When he agreed and stepped back so you could come in. He expected you to go to his bed or his desk chair not, the oversized bean bag on the floor.
“I have a question for you but you can’t tell Bruce yet.” Here it comes. “What would a funny way to tell him I know he’s Batman?” Tim wasn’t expecting that one. “I was thinking a lot of batpuns but his paranoia is too bad for that.”
“How did you figure it out?” You walked him through your process and didn’t say anything as he wrote parts of it down. Once you finished explaining the process for Bruce, you explained any way it was modified in figuring out their identities.
“Who do you think I am?”
“Red Robin.” Tim found himself getting excited.
“You know those notes you leave him in his office?” You nodded. “You should leave those in the Batcave.” You considered it but your thinking was interrupted but Tim shouting.
“No! One night when we’re all in the cave, you could bring some snacks!”
“You just want snacks when he’s lecturing you don’t you?”
“Maybe..”
“Alright, but you have to tell the others so they can tell me what snack they want.”
So Tim slowly and carefully went through all his siblings, letting them know you figured it out, Bruce didn’t know, and what the plan is. Every time he relayed a snack to you he’d watch how carefully you’d write it out to make sure you had it correct or look up recipes if you couldn’t find it in stores.
Two weeks later, Tim was the one who sent the signal in the middle of a lecture everyone was receiving and he got a front row seat to see Bruce’s face when you walked in and handed out snacks before giving him a kiss and telling him to be nice and leaving.
Any other worries were left in the dust when you helped him win the nerf war for the best seat in the home theater. He thoroughly enjoyed his spot next to you while Bruce swore revenge from the other side of the room.
Damian treated you politely but that was it. His mother was still alive and he didn’t want another one, one was more than enough. Not only that, but you were weird.
One time when you were over, you found one of his report cards. Immediately you were praising him. He didn’t understand why, he had basically failed one of his classes with an A-. You should be disappointed like his mother would be, not hanging it up on the fridge and telling people not to touch it. Definitely not taking him out for ice cream and calling him so smart. He definitely shouldn’t be feeling any pride when he walked past it, but he still was.
When he was practicing his violin and Messed up, you were supposed to tell him to stop failing, that he should be better. Not smiling at him and telling him he’s making good progress. You should be telling him that he should have memorized that piece in a day. He shouldn’t be feeling any pride when he finally does memorize it, it took him 4 days to learn it.
When he was struggling to learn a language, you were supposed to tell him to work harder. He could do better, after all, he already knew so many. Instead you just smiled and recommended a break to refresh his mind.
When he snapped at you in Arabic, he expected you to be upset since you didn’t know what he said and it was obviously not something nice. Instead you set the rule that if he was going to use Arabic to speak to you when upset, that he had to teach it to you and if what he said wasn’t something you had learned yet, he had to tell you in english. When he told you what it meant, you didn’t even get upset. He definitely shouldn’t be as excited as he was when you actually started learning.
So many more little things piled up, leaving Damian confused. The differences between how you and his mother treated him was so big he didn’t know how to process it, he liked you and all the little things made him happy in a way he hadn’t really felt. But he still loved his mom, When he had enough of it, he asked you to stop. He still wanted to love his mom. Once again, you did something you weren’t supposed to.
“Oh Damian, I’m not trying to replace your mom nor am I trying to make you feel like you can’t love her or she doesn’t love you. Your mom and I show our love in different ways and its ok for you to love or like both of us. You mother loves you and she will always be allowed in your life if thats what you want.” You weren’t supposed to do that, but Damian was really glad you did.
Barbara wasn’t sure how you would react to her. She wasn’t just Bruce’s kid. She had a loving family she went back to every night. Most people weren’t really a fan of that, one of Bruce’s past girlfriends had some strong and hurtful things to say about it.
When you took her for a day out, she found herself warming up to you but still waiting for the other shoe to drop. One of the new places you had planned to go, didn’t have wheelchair access. Like all the other girlfriends who had done this, she expected you to be annoyed that your plans had to change or you would just leave her outside while you shopped.
You didn’t seem to notice her hesitation, just looking at what was next on your list and starting the trip there. When Barbara stared a little longer at a new movie that was in theaters, tickets and snacks were bought and you listed to all the lore she told you about before it started.
While it had been a nice day, Barbara wasn’t convinced. One day was easy to fake. Sure she had lots of fun, but Barbara was used to fakes when it came to Bruce’s girlfriends. Of course she wasn’t complaining about you being nice, she just wasn’t sure how long it would last.
“Did you hear about that boutique?” She looked up from her food to look at her dad. “That new one that you tried to go to with Bruce’s girlfriend? Well there was a report that it didn’t meet the Americans with Disabilities act and the boutique is in trouble. People are speculating they’ll have to close down.”
Later that night, Barbara looked into it. They were in trouble, pretty big trouble from the looks of it. Towards the end of the article she found the name of the person who reported it, she wasn’t sure who she was expecting. Not you for sure but the Name Y/n L/n took her by surprise and filled her chest with feelings she couldn’t describe.
The boutique ended up closing but a new one opened. Once it was open, you were the first to ask her to go. That weird feeling came back when she wheeled herself up the ramp and through the door you held open for her. Later that night, in the privacy of her room. She decided she liked you.
Steph seemed like she liked you, she acted like she liked you, she didn’t really like you. Sure you were nice, Bruce loved you, the others were warming up to you, but she wasn’t sure how to feel about you. So she stuck with not actually liking you but pretending to.
So when she was around you, it was all smiles and jokes. She wasn’t a big fan of it all but she did it because she knew you were important to Bruce and that was enough of a reason for her. She knew Bruce and the others could see through the act but as long as you couldn’t, that was enough.
When Bruce announced he had to leave for a business trip right before she could hand him the parents visit for one of her AP classes, something the new teacher liked doing. She tucked the paper away. When Tim gave her a questioning look, she shook her head and later swore him to silence.
Every time she heard someone mention their parents were going, she felt a pang of jealousy in her chest. Every time Tim mentioned bringing it up to you, she swore him into silence again. It wouldn’t be the first time no one showed up for her. She was however thankful you wouldn’t be at the manor as much so she didn’t have to pretend to like you.
When the day arrived, Steph was not having a good day. School dragged on slowly. Slower than normal. When school finally ended, she had to sit in the classroom and watch everyone else that was in her class leave and the parents of her classmates show up while no one was there or coming for her.
Someone sat in the seat next to her, she expected another family member of one of her classmates. Definitely not you. She couldn’t return your smile, too unsure of how you found out, the fact you actually showed up, and how she felt about you being there. You leaned a little closer so that the others in the room wouldn’t easily overhear.
“I know I’m not your parent and someone you just pretend to like so if you want me to leave I will. But I figured someone was better then no one. Oh, and Tim wanted me to tell you he didn’t spill. Your teacher called the manor because no one had RSVPed for you and I answered it.”
That night, as Steph showed off all her hard work to you, the charade fell. She actually enjoyed her time with you and the boost of pride as you oohed and ahhed over all her projects and listened to her explain all the little details. That night, Steph realized, she didn’t need to keep pretending. She liked you, until she found out you didn’t like her favorite show but a nerf war solved that.
Cass could tell you were different then the other girlfriends, your body language as you interacted with all of them showed it. However that didn’t mean she knew how to interact with you.
She had learned that she was fairly hard for new people to interact with. She also knew she had trouble interacting with people she wasn’t fighting. So it wasn’t a surprise when it started rocky.
What was a surprise, was when you found out she was still having trouble reading and writing, you stepped in to help. Well, that wasn’t the surprising part, a lot of girlfriends did that. The surprising part was the amount of patience you had when it was only the two of you.
When one method didn’t help, you tried another. Never once did you snap at her or call her a name. Everytime you got frustrated you would stop and look at her, say something along the lines of “If I had as much trouble with this as you do, I wouldn’t want to keep trying. You're doing absolutely amazing! I’ll keep looking for other ideas, but for now, lets take a break and get a treat.”
Cass wasn’t sure why that always made her feel better, but it did. Every treat you brought was something you made just for the tutoring sessions and it always reminded her of what Alfred had told her once. “Something made with love for you will always taste better.”
And when a method that made it a little easier to learn was found, Cass found herself smiling along with your cheers. Bad days where she couldn’t seem to make any progress were always met with the same excitement, cheers, patience, and treats that all the others were.
Cass still wasn’t sure of what to think of you exactly, but she knew she liked you and that you cared about her.
So when Tim saw the new rise in hate, a sibling meeting was called. They all went through each site, blood boiling as they saw what people were saying about their new parent. Plans were made, declarations of war were ready, and anger fueled all of them. Bruce could tell something was going on, but he wasn’t sure what it was and as long as it didn’t get out of had, he wasn’t sure if he had the energy to deal with it.
War was declared in an interview by Steph. The lady was asking questions when the topic switched to Bruce, then you. The reporter was clearly trying to subtly find some dirt on you and Steph was not going to stand for it.
“Oh yeah! Y/n! She’s the best!” She put on her best press face. Trying to hide her anger over the hidden intent. She didn’t have to lie or act when talking about you but the change in the lady’s face going to disappointment when she didn’t get anything she wanted was making her look very punchable.
“She’s always showing up for us and making sure we’re doing ok. If Y/n and Bruce were to break up, I think most of us would go with Y/n.” The way the lady kept trying to get anything really got on her nerves and Steph decided she needed to get out of there before she started using the lady’s face for target practice. You wouldn’t like that.
Cass was the first one to resort to violence. They had asked a thinly veiled question, basically asking if you were a golddigger. So she punched him in the nose and leaned down to flip the camera off. She hated interviews already but that made it so much worse. She hoped you wouldn’t be too upset with her punching the guy though.
Jason, surprisingly enough. Did not get violent… physically. He did however curse one out and threaten him when the reporter implied you were forcing them to say nice things. When the reporter kept pressing Jason broke his mic and told him if he ever heard him talking bad about you again, a broken mic would be the last of his worries. Jason knew you would be disappointed but he had held back, he didn’t shoot the guy like he wanted.
Tim threw his coffee at one reporter because he heard them say you were nothing but a regular person who didn’t deserve any attention. He then took over her segment, threatening the company to air it or he would make sure they went bankrupt. Once he finished his threats, anything he said was praising you name. Telling everyone how amazing you were and how much they all loved you.
Barbara made it a point to bring up everything you did for the community when they tried to throw some shade at you in an interview. She had documents to prove it and hacked their systems to add them into the interview so they couldn’t claim it was fake. She also made sure to run over his foot when she left.
Dick punched a reporter when they tried to ask him what you were really like behind closed doors. He told them the truth, that you were just as good, kind, patient, and loving behind closed doors as you were out in public. He didn’t throw a punch until the reporter disregarded that as asked again because she couldn’t be that good. Dick knew a lecture would be coming once you saw, but he would rather sit through a lecture then let anyone tarnish your name.
Damian spent 10 minutes cursing and threatening a reporter in Arabic when they asked him if you had ever hurt him. When he was done, he told them in english, that if he ever got asked that question again, he would impale them. He knew you were going to make him sit down and translate everything and the general response you would give but he didn’t care, no one speaks bad about either of his mothers.
Bruce figured out what was going on after Steph’s interview. He saw the ones where they assaulted or threatened the reporters and made sure his lawyers were on standby to keep the kids out of trouble. After all, he had seen more than they had.
He had watched as you tried to connect with Dick early on, how you worked hard to try and get somewhere. He had woken up before you when Dick had come in that night and heard how you handled it. He had woken up the next morning to find you holding Dick close, like you were trying to protect him from the nightmares. He had seen how you never turned Dick down when he wanted comfort, no matter how serious or silly the matter, and he had heard your excitement when you told him Dick liked you.
Bruce had seen the way you never missed a visit to Jason’s grave, on a visit of his own, he saw how much care you showed the stone marking it as his lost son. While he hadn’t been sure why it was alway the same time on Tuesday, he didn;t mention it. He felt the way you would sob in his arms after each visit, a year after the tradition started, you always said you had promised not to tell and he watched as you kept that promise even if it tore you to pieces. Once the shock and tears wore off for a little bit, he could see the trust that Jason had in you.
He heard the way you questioned if you should have a key to the manor, you didn’t want to make Tim uncomfortable in his own home, or how you questioned if you should visit while he was gone. Not wanting to stress Tim out when there was no reason too. He saw the way you and Tim grinned at each other when you brought snacks down for all the kids he was currently lecturing. He head the excitement in your voice as you told him about the tour Tim had given you of the Batcave and the shared laughter as you and Tim worked together to win the nerf war.
Bruce saw how you worked to give Damian the affection he didn’t think he needed. He felt you crying in his arms upset over the fact Damian thought you would be angry because he made a mistake or struggled in a class. He heard you practicing your Arabic as you got ready for bed and he watched as you stress paced over whether or not you said the right thing to him about his mother.
He saw how angry you had been when you came back from your day out with Barbara. He had heard your call with your lawyer as you tried to figure out what to do. He saw you going through the laws and making a list to make sure your lawyer didn’t miss any. He heard about the movie you didn’t particularly care about and the lore you remembered in case of another because you wanted Barbara to have someone she could tell all of her favorite things too.
Bruce saw the pictures you had taken from the school night. He heard all the details from you as you praised Steph’s work. He saw the way Steph stopped acting around you and the silly arguments the two of you would get into for fun. He heard the way you would listen to her as she verbally worked out her problems. He saw the way Steph looked for you in a crowd, the way she knew you were there but not where you stood exactly, the thought of you not being there never crossed her.
He saw the way you stayed up late, researching different ways to teach reading and writing. He heard the patience and kindness and you worked with Cass. He saw the way you always made a treat just for Cass to have after each lesson because you wanted to reward her hard work. He heard the way you cried for Cass when she had a bad day and got frustrated with herself because you knew she was smart and you wanted her to see it too. He heard your celebrations when Cass made any progress, no matter the size.
Bruce heard, saw, and felt the way you worked hard to have a relationship with his kids. How you had mourned for their losses, celebrated their wins, and felt their pain. He saw the way his kids blossomed under your care, growing to be better and more confident in themselves. The way you cared for them as if they were your own flesh and blood. So when he was asked about his kids behavior, he said as much.
“Y/n has worked hard to be accepted by them. She’s given so much of her time, effort, patience, and love and never wanted anything in return. She always shows up for them, no matter what the occasion is, big or small, it doesn’t matter. If they want her there, she’ll be there. Everytime they need or want her, she’s there. She never judges them and treats them as if they were her own blood. Of course their upset and lashing out, people are insulting the woman who has cared for them more then most of their biological mothers.”
Later, a clip of you scolding Bruce and all the kids went viral. While you were scolding them over their behavior and making the kids who had reacted with violence or threats write apology letters because asking mean questions does not make it right to respond badly especially when its someone just trying to start drama. Everyone one noticed that there was no actual bite to your tone and no anger when they all refused to stop acting like that. In fact, there was a small soft smile on your face as you shook your head at your family.
This man is giving me terminal brain rot, istg.
There are so many blurbs and fics about Veritas being rude to an "inferior" significant other, but please think about him with a significant other who is just as smart in an opposite way.
Aka, I want to lovingly bicker with him about our respective areas of medicine and science SO BADLY
Veritas Ratio x GN reader married science bickering and fluff
"Veri, dearest...... Can you explain that theorem one more time? I'm still slightly confused," you sigh, tracing your fingers along the side of the spiral notebook you'd been using to take notes.
As always, your notebook is filled with page after page of scrawled formulas, stray doodles, and hastily added mnemonics. To almost anyone else, they'd be illegible, but to you, they were perfect.
Ratio sighed, resting his chin atop his hand in mild exasperation as he leaned over your shoulder and checked your work. "We should come back to this later if you don't understand it by now. As you well know, beating the information into your brain does not lead to true mastery of the subject."
Your husband certainly had a fearsome reputation as a pedagogue, with some of his students even going so far as to add his name to the word's adjective list in the Intelligentsia Guild Databank, but you knew better. Veritas Ratio could certainly be vitriolic at times, but his actions were always used to benefit as many people as possible. At first, his heart seemed cold and stoney, but there was actually gold hidden underneath the rough surface.
"I didn't say that to you the last time the tables were turned," You pointed out with a softly admonishing smile. "I seem to remember spending all night in the library to help a certain someone finally understand oxidation-reduction reactions."
Veritas scoffed derisively. "You're right, but I do feel the need to point out that you had fallen asleep at the table and were drooling onto my textbook when it finally clicked."
"So..... you're going to deny that my many patient explanations helped?" You looked at him with vague amusement, remembering the way he'd launched a piece of chalk across the room after incorrectly identifying the electrophile in one of the practice problems.
"No, no. Just food for thought." His face softened, and a small, indulgent smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "Although, I am afraid that I'll have to insist we at least get something to eat after this attempt. You, of all people, should know that your neurons need proper fuel to work at optimum levels."
