(The Spices Were Cardamom And Cinnamon, You Silly Fool, And The Children In Your Hometown Are Hungrier.
(The spices were cardamom and cinnamon, you silly fool, and the children in your hometown are hungrier. The songbird was a woodlark, and the only exotic thing there was you.)
This. I love this. I need to remember this. No, I want to remember this. Otherwise all I know and see is all that I’ve known and seen, even when I’m a thousand miles away from anything I’ve ever seen before. And how bland would life be if everything you ate was the same meal you just had.
It occurs to me that failure to properly worldbuild an SFFnal story is - sometimes, though not always - less reflective of a writer’s creative ability than it is a consequence of their real-world privilege. The concept of culture as something with multiple...

I think #2 and #12 would make great Clarke/Lexa stories.
I totally want to read a story about an injured Lexa being sent to recover at the hospital Clarke works at. All the Sky people work at the hospital and all the Grounders are recovering soldiers. Where Lincoln starts falling in love with his OT's little sister (Octavia, who starts coming around a hell of a lot more often). And Indra's a snarky NCO who simultaneously 100% done with every bodies shit and 100% encouraging. And Abby's the head surgeon. Which makes Clarke's life awkward. But not as awkward as it gets when she starts flirting with Commander Raccoon Eyes (on account of her broken nose leaving her with two black eyes). Lexa just really wants to walk again... And maybe marry Clarke (y'know, after she takes her on at least one real date first).
Also, one where Clarke paints an unwitting Lexa for art class and a few years later it's super famous. Lexa knew she was painted, she just didn't know by who or what it looks like. So she meets Clarke and falls for her then worries that Clarke doesn't feel the same. Then she sees the painting and goes 'oh, yeah, she loves me, she's always loved me.'
