i think this is something that people forget a lot. slightly problematic allies are still allies, and when we start treating them like our enemies, we invite in only yes-men and enablers. DIVERSITY OF THOUGHT IS IMPORTANT, PEOPLE.

i feel like it's absolutely crucial in the social justice world to take "he a little confused but he got the spirit" and similar sentiments/situations as a Win. intent is so much more important than saying it right the first time! if someone is approaching with scuffed language and incorrect terms but they're visibly being as polite as they know how, that person is a friend and should be treated better than what their words might invite in someone else's mouth.

but i will also never shut up about DID THEY HAVE NO JEWISH PERSON WATCH THIS MOVIE BEFORE IT CAME OUT? BECAUSE THAT IS NOT HOW YOU LIGHT HANUKKAH CANDLES.

let’s see:

1) not lighting other candles with the shamash candle (for non jews that’s the one in the middle placed higher than everyone else, you’re supposed to light all the other candles with it)

2) if i’m seeing this correctly the candles were lit from left to right (from erik and his mothers pov) when they should be lit right to left

3) the candles are set up wrong! if this was a 7 candle menorah (which as far as i know are mostly decorative) they would be set up correctly but this seems like a 9 candle menorah… meaning that there should be four candles on one side and three (erik’s mother lights the shamash with the 7th candle) on the other… how did no one spot this?!

obvs this doesn’t make it a bad scene, it’s a great scene! i just haven’t seen anyone talk about this
