🌿 weed crash course w. hazyhae (18+ mdni)

i have had a lot of readers express interest in learning more about weed for various reasons, so i'm making a little post to try and give some context. i am no weed professional and do not know everything- i am just an enjoyer of many years (tho im still on my indefinite cleanse). what's included are just some basics of the basics of weed as i know it, plus imagery of what i may use in my writing :)

some disclaimers before you read:

this post is in no way all encompassing, and purely informative and to provide context for my writing

there may regional differences in weed terms and uses, so this may be different from where you are (i am from the us in an area where weed is very legal and common)

i do not encourage any sort of substance consumption for 1) individuals it may cause harm (physically, mentally, legally) or 2) minors!!!!!! seriously please do not interact

remember that even if it’s a plot device in my stories, weed is a drug— i support healthy and informed weed consumption in the real world

anyways, hope this can help even just a little :)

Weed overview:

weed is a psychoactive drug made from the cannabis plant, meaning it affects your mind and behavior

effects are different depending on ratio of CBD and THC (chemical compounds that make up weed)

other names: marijuana, cannabis, kush, flower, herb, + more

comes in many different forms!

Weed Strains: all weed falls into three categories, indica, sativa, or a combination of the two - depends on CBD:THC ratio!

indica

used for mental and physical relaxation and relief

can help with insomnia, pain relief, nausea, etc.

to me, gives more of a high felt in the body

many tend to use these strains at night

more CBD compared to THC

indica strain examples: blueberry, gelato

sativa

used for relaxation, but also energy and mood boosting

can help with creativity, social situations, energy/focus for tasks

to me, gives more of a high felt in the mind

many tend to use when going out, or if wanting a more lively high

more THC compared to CBD

sativa strain examples: tangie, sour diesel

hybrids

some combination of the two

will either be more indica- or sativa- dominant depending on the THC:CBD ratio

hybrid examples: strawberry cough (heyy), blue dream

Forms of Weed

flower- dried leaves and buds of the cannabis plant that are ground up, usually smoked in rolled cigarette form or in pieces (will expand in a bit)

concentrates- wax or oil, usually smoked in pens/devices, or made into edibles, which can be made into any food imaginable really

Weed Mediums - smokables

cigarettes

joints - my medium of choice, rolled weed cigarette -> crushed flower rolled in paper with a filter

blunts - same as joint, but rolled with tobacco paper, meaning that the high includes nicotine

spliff - same as the joint, but the filling includes tobacco mixed with the weed, meaning that the high includes nicotine

for imagery, this wikileaf tutorial on how to roll a joint has videos included of all the steps, which i often write about in my fics (rolling, sealing, etc.)

pieces

pipes - aka bowls, glass pieces that fit in one's hand with a mouthpiece leading to a "bowl" in which you burn weed

bongs - a larger pipe, but uses water to produce help produce the smoke; has a water reservoir/"chamber" where the smoke builds and rises, long mouthpiece, and a bowl to burn the weed

rigs - a bit more complicated set up, but a glass piece used for smoking weed in concentrate for, as opposed to flower in the other pieces

pens

carts - the part of the pen that holds the weed, usually refillable/interchangeable (usually one would have a battery, which is the body of the pen itself and buy new carts when the weed runs out)

vapes - pens that use oil or flower cartridges

dabs - pens that use cartridges with thicker weed concentrates, like wax

Weed Mediums - consumables

edibles - weed concentrate put in to quite literally any food you could think of, most commonly distributed in gummies/candy, or baked desserts

drinks - juice/tea/others made by infusing parts of the cannabis plant or using weed concentrate

tinctures - concentrated weed oil dissolved under the tongue, usually provides a very strong high to the direct dissolving of weed into bloodstream

Effects of Weed: weed, while super fun and good for many things, can also have negative effects. here's just some effects of weed, but take it with a grain of salt, as it's different for everyone. it's a matter of learning your own limits and the way your own mind and body react to weed.

physical

positives: relaxation of body, pain relief, sleep aid

negative: impaired body movement, lung/throat irritation (if smoking), dizziness/nausea

mental

positives: anxiety relief, creativity boosting, emotion regulating

negatives: paranoia/increased anxiety, impaired memory/processing, hallucinations/delusions if taking too much

ending notes:

i tried to organize this best as i could, but it may be all over the place so sorry in advance for any confusion! once again, i am no expert in weed and this may not be 100% accurate, so please take this with a grain of salt. i hope this helped even a little bit in envisioning my and other author's stoner!fics, and also helped with general weed knowledge. there is no shame in not knowing much about weed, as all weed users start at 0.

for weed use in real life, as someone who has indulged in weed since my late teens, i am aware of both the positives and negatives. i am not condoning unsafe weed use, or illegal weed use, and i always encourage those interested in it to make sure the weed itself is from a reputable source, and to have trusted company in case things go south. happy weed indulging! 🍃
